The Old Stables in Arun

I feel it important to correct the description above. There are NO GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. There are a few things on the menu that just happen to be gluten free. When I asked the staff for a gluten free menu I was told to download Glass Onion which does tell you what the ingredients are but that is all. There is no gluten free option for bread or anything else. If you have GF issues for your health's sake please avoid.

Forgot who served us dinner but as we were early they gave us drinks at bar table then transferred to our dining table when it became free the food was excellent I and my Wife both had calamari and fish and chips preceded by chorizo sausages. I got a freebie Prosecco bottle for my birthday. We dine here frequently and my only crib is the app allows you to collect rewards, I got up to three when they deleted them as they expire which is a bit like daylight robbery as you save them for best benefit then suddenly they are gone!! They did this once before when app crashed, promised to restore what was my rewards but nope didn’t happen. Won’t stop us using the place as service and quality seem consistent and best of all we can walk there.

Great Sunday Roast. Service was excellent as always. Our waitress Kacie was so attentive and it was a lovely family get together. Must do it again soon.

Stayed at nearby Travel lodge, great food, great service really nice garden would definitely return. Ideal location for two travel lodges as well as Fontwell Racecourse next door.

Kacie is a brilliant member of your team and a credit to your organisation. She is very knowledgeable and has great attitude. Sophie is also a lovely bar tender too !

I had been for a lovely lunch previously a few weeks ago, so decided to treat my family to Sunday lunch at The Old Stables. What a disaster! Unfortunately my partner has a bad reaction to garlic and the roast potatoes are “ruffled” in garlic and herbs according to the menu. I asked if there were any other potatoes he could have because of this allergy. He wanted the roast turkey and so because the kitchen staff then checked every item for garlic he ended up with a plate containing 1 slice of turkey, half a carrot and lots of cut up new potatoes. He missed out on Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and gravy all because they contained garlic powder. Now I would have expected to maybe see a few more slices of turkey, carrots etc to make up for the other items? There were other vegetables served separately, nearly raw cauliflower with a few strands of cabbage and dishes of cauliflower cheese, which was almost uncooked cauliflower with a slice of cheese melted over….. no cheese sauce. My meal was the trio of meats and I gave him my small slice of turkey so I was left with a slice of beef and a 1 inch by 2 inch square of pork belly. We ate what we could. When paying the bill my partner was asked if we had enjoyed the meal and he said no we hadn’t and that was the end of that, no question as to why. He was charged full price for his “ meal”.

Didn't have much but my daughter had a dessert she enjoyed whilst I had a vege wrap. Both were good and out server Amber was very helpful

The food was good, glad to see the normal fish cakes back on the menu. The service from Imogen made our visit even better, excellent hospitality skills, a credit to you company.

an excellent lunch , the menu had a good selection of food. well cooked and nicely presented. nice to see an area where you can take your dogs into the restaurant

The main reasons we didn’t give more stars are: 1) our flatbread pre-starter was black on its underside. A bit of charcoal for one’s flatulence never does any harm but not when you’re paying in a restaurant! The sea bass for our mains was similarly well done but acceptable. My Americano wasn’t fresh. It tasted like it had been stewing for over 90 minutes in a filtered coffee jug. Otherwise, nice surroundings (wouldn’t sit near the toilets again), and generally decent food. Would have liked to give 4 stars but it just didn’t make the grade. We suspect there’s a staffing issue.

Good birthday meal with the family. Whilst the restaurant was super busy and they looked understaffed the two girls serving and manning the bar did a great job

It's been over 3years since we last visited the Old Stables at Fontwell today for lunch. Being a vintage inn the food was superb as always, and the staff very friendly. We were the first in just before midday, but the only thing to mention was that the food did take a while to arrive (almost half an hour ) But as I said worth waiting for. We came by this restaurant by chance. We were attending Goodwood Revival and staying nearby. We thought we would pop in on the Friday evening for a drink, while in we read the menu and decided to book a table for the Saturday evening. We were so glad we did, the food was excellent as was the service provided by Leilah our waitress (a credit to the business, outstanding) all of the staff were very friendly and efficient. Must recommend the chocolate honeypot dessert, it is delicious. All of the food was excellent. We decided to eat here again on the Sunday too due to the quality of food and service and again we weren’t disappointed. Top marks, well done. There is also a great seated area which looks fantastic for the summer.
