A very traditional old pub with a cosy exposed beam interior. The decor inside is very good with antique-style candles on the tables.

The Gun Inn is a lovely rural pub ,sadly we couldn't eat because they were busy. The chef felt he didn't have enough food. Which was strange.

Had an excellent meal last night at the Italian evening. Great service even with the place packed! Will return for another themed night.

Enjoyed a delicious Sunday Lunch at this lovely old pub yesterday. We all had the Roast Beef and it was top notch! Everything cooked beautifully, generous portions of varied veggies, crispy roasties and oodles of rich gravy. The beef was thickly sliced, generous and delicious particularly topped with lovely horseradish sauce! Desserts were also lovely and I devoured my Raspberry Mess with relish. The pub was very busy (deservedly) but service was excellent. We were welcomed and served throughout with efficiency and lots of smiles. I can’t wait to go back for more!

Dropped in after a very soggy and misty walk with our whippet (despite it being August!). Staff were friendly, pub was really cosy inside with candles lit. Food was really good. My burger was one of the best I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious.

Fantastic Sunday roast and always a great pint.

We were staying nearby and decided to eat at the Gun Inn on the first night. Before the end of the meal we had booked again for the next night - not something I would normally do. The setting is very nice - authentically quirky, just what you would hope a country village pub would be like. The service was excellent, and the whole environment seemed very friendly and local, also very dog friendly. The food was very good - the burger on the first night was the best I have had for a while, and the pie on the second night was equally good. The wine list isn't very extensive, but most of the wines were available in small, medium or large glasses as well as by the bottle. All in all, it was a very enjoyable meal.

We loved this pub. The garden is great, the food is great, ambience and staff are great. You get the picture… Tasty lamb tacos. Fabulous fresh mussels.

Very cosy pub where locals swing by. Staff were friendly and competent. The (very large) portions of food were absolutely fantastic, not least the chicken and chorizo pie. Only minus were the toilets which were not nice.

It was fine, called in for a pint of beer, next time will have a meal.

Great food and service. Beautiful steak. Lovely atmosphere

The food is really good and portions are large, especially dessert portions. Burgers are really nice course ground patties, rather than finely ground, so nicer coarse texture that I prefer. Some unusual choices on the menu which were successful too, such as lamb tacos. These worked well but were slightly smaller portions. Could have probably eaten 3 instead of 2. But desserts afterwards could all have served two people. Pavlova the size of a dinner plate and really rich chocolate brownies that were great but we struggled to finish. Service was really attentive and genuinely friendly. We were going to eat outside as they were full inside but a double booking meant we were moved and it was no trouble to them. Really nice atmosphere inside. Garden is OK but the wood chip on the ground could do with a refresh. There was nowhere to park within 400yds of the pub, but was worth the walk from roadside parking. Findon seems incredibly busy for parking. Something to bear if you have someone infirm with you. But really enjoyed our meal and left feeling it was pretty good value and that we'd had a very nice time.

Lovely food. The cheesecake was an interesting interpretation. Roast beef and lamb Were both delicious. The seating is cramped and very close together

Grand old village pub. Great selection of well kept Ringwood draught ales. Would recommend the 49er! Restaurant was busy although we did not eat this time. Definitely requires another visit to dine! Menu looks very good.

Just drinks but a great atmosphere

Food was delicious and very filling for a Sunday roast. Hot food served on a hot plate, the simple things matter. Probably didn't need the halloumi starter although it did taste good. The lamb shoulder fell apart easily, plenty of vegetables & gravy to go with. Worth the £19 price tag. Would have liked the option of adding a Yorkshire pudding on it though. Service was excellent. Best to book in advance. Will be back, Thanks.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic, a long, relaxed, delicious lunch. We'll be returning very soon.

We attended a wake today at the gun and it was a loverly lil pub with nice garden area with open fires in some of the rooms I wish I had seen more or ordered food so I will be visiting again to be able to give a better review

Sitting outside its very dirty and untidy. Didn't like it. Food was lovely though. Dog friendly.

THE PUB TO BE ! Actually, this is the best pub I've ever been to ! Steak Ale pie was delicious. The staff was so kind, and the place itself is amazing, cosy, and welcoming. We feel at home ! Thanks for everything. It's a well-deserved 5 stars !

The Gun Inn was recommended to me for a great Sunday roast. Well it did not disappoint. The staff were lovely, the atmosphere and style was great and the food was the best you would expect . My Sister and I had a 3 course Sunday lunch, starting with the asparagus tips on sourdough with a poached egg, followed by belly of pork, the best roast potatoes and a full fresh selection of vegetables. We had the raspberry & pistachio meringue for desert. It was so delicious and I can honestly say, the best Sunday roast I have had anywhere! I would definitely recommend The Gun Inn, especially if you want food that has been carefully prepared and served to order. Hats off to the chefs and welcoming staff who made the visit so great.

Good atmosphere beer food and service

My roast arrived after others 12 booked in and ordered all roasts before mine was cold so much fat on beef roasts potatoes and parsnips and my Yorkshire pudding burnt

A group of us went to The Gun Inn for the first time for my birthday. All the communication about the booking was great and so was pre-ordering food. It was a classic rainy Sunday but that didn't detract from how lovely the pub was nor how friendly the staff were. We had a super time and would all go back!

Attentive friendly staff served the most delicious roast with the best locally grown vegetables. Generous portions and such a warm atmosphere; highly recommended.

Strange attitude with table booking… wouldn’t allow me to book a table because i was waiting to see if an extra person would join. They advised me to wait until I had confirmation, in case someone else wanted the table I wanted to reserve, whilst assuring me they had plenty of tables. Then when I tried to book the day after the member of staff informed me they were fully booked up “you should probably book a week in advance in future.” If the tables go that easily, what was the issue with me booking in the first place?

There is no other pub that quite captures the same charm as the gunn. Stunning old property. The staff are always quick, super friendly landlady, always working hard. I've eaten here many a time and am always impressed by the menu. They clearly use good chefs that know how to be creative. A pretty good roast dinner on a Sunday also. I always feel lucky to spend time at the gunn. Great team making the place what it is.

How glad am I that The Gun is my local! All the staff are always lovely and welcoming, not only to me but my dog. It’s Christmas so the low beams are decked with boughs of pine, the log fire is ablaze and a twinkling traditional tree makes for a cosy atmosphere. And it’s probably been this way for the whole of its 500 year history. It has decent beer on tap; check Gun Barrel 👌🏻and always stocks pukka crisps! (the only place I know that has veggie Ham and Mustard or Roast Ox flavours!). Just love and appreciate the love and warmth.

Joined friends for a 20th Anniversary meal and blown away by the friendliness from Sally (who is definitely the right person to run a Pub). The food was fantastic, indeed everything was superb. Definitely need to go back again maybe in the Spring to enjoy the amazing outside area.

A group of us dined with you last night and we were blown away, by the unbelievable service and the food, which was incredible. Your staff new every dish and made us feel like we were the only table in the restaurant. Had a very pleasant lunch while visiting with a friend on a Wednesday lunchtime. We sat in the garden with a small number of other customers although there were a few more people sitting inside as the weather was cool, grey and overcast. I noted that the car park was about three quarters full and there is a covered area in the garden if you wanted to sit in the shade or shelter from the rain. The food and beer were good and reasonably priced and the service was friendly. We'd happily visit again.

There is a very good reason to visit this lovely pub in the heart of findon village . Its just lovely . Location is outstanding, easy to get to and is surrounded by some stunning countryside. Staff are very friendly the food is lovely and just remember to duck if your really tall . Just go see for yourself.

Love this little pub. We do not go to many but have made a point since moving here to stop off after a long walk over the downs. Great little garden and will def book for family roasts.

Our first visit, and it was lovely. We had a weekday free, so went in and had a ploughman's lunch. It was full of everything you could possibly want, all very fresh and beautifully presented. The service was fantastic. And we stayed for a few more drinks after our meal in the beer garden. There's plenty of room for either a gathering, or like us, on this occasion, a couple who could squirrel themselves away. We will be back! Thank you

Went for a meal here last weekend and one of the meals was very tasty (the burger) whereas the fish sadly wasn’t great. Service whilst we were there was poor - slow, no check back, wrong drinks etc. However, I subsequently called back to chat through our experience with the manager who was excellent and is the sole reason I went with three stars and not fewer! If we were in the area we would try it again thanks to her excellent response in trying to put it right and think we just had an unlucky experience. The pub itself was really lovely, super traditional and was cosy.

Booked table for four arrived to be told it was French night. The meal was lovely and reasonably priced. Service was excellent.

We were recommended this pub while on a walk on the Cissbury Ring, which is just a short distance away and well worth a visit. Now, to the important bit, the village is beautiful and the Gun just as nice, the venue, staff and food were excellent TBH. I had the kofta kebab and my Georgina had the halloumi and courgette salad, mine was excellent and the salad was the best Georgina had tried in the UK ……. Now if this is not enough for you to take a trip to this quintessential South Downs eatery then this means there will be more room for those who do, like we did :>) Ps, The Ringwood bitter was the perfect addition to our meal. If we are that way again we will definitely be revisiting. MS

Four of us for Sunday lunch sadly not a good experience this time. The place really looks quite dirty and dark now. Roast beef was ok but only one small dish with over cooked veg between three people was nowhere near enough. Won't be going back I'm afraid.

Really disappointed, heard good things about this pub but will not be returning. 2 waitresses working, neither of them smiled once. Very unhelpful, didn’t know then menu. One was actually quite rude and got annoyed when asked about a dish. Chips came out slightly warm. Overpriced for what you get.

Ate here on Saturday evening with friends. Service was very friendly and attentive would definitely recommend based on the excellent staff. The food is very good but nothing blew me away, no wow flavours. What they serve is fresh and good quality but it all felt a little safe. Would happily go back as it's a lovely pub and friendly staff.

Always good to go for French night 3 courses and a glass of wine for £20. This is great value and enjoyable evening with friends and a good log fire. The cooking was home cooked and fresh so excellent as always. I like to praise where praise is due so I know if I go here I get a good portion well cooked. Steak was lovely and nicely garnished too. Starter was lovely Ardennes pate. I think 2 course was £15 and I had the 2 courses which was more than enough for me. House red wine was good too. All in all a lovely dining experience in a traditional English pub. All socially distanced. I think the most interesting thing were the men's urinals they had a mini sink on top of each urinal a bit disconcerting but fine once you get used to it!

A little bday treat for my friend on french night! Wow it did not disappoint! 3 courses and a complimentary glass of wine £20pp amazing value. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was 5 star! The best mussels in town by far!!! Highly highly recommend this gem of a pub! They are following COVID guidelines which was very organised and we felt extremely safe. Thank you team Gun for a wonderful evening! We’ll be back!

A great pub close to our hotel (Findon Manor) and managed to get a table same day for Saturday night. A cosy pub which also offers outdoor seating (we had a table indoors), and serves great food and beer (Camden Hells on tap!). Dogs welcome so we were able to bring our Spaniel in. Menu is updated daily and can be accessed via their website or a QR code on the table. Felt very safe, they turned away guests who weren't prepared to wear facemasks unless at tables.

There is a limited menu now, as a coeliac I was still catered for. We sat outside under cover. Staff were welcoming.

Four of us went there for a birthday meal at lunchtime today and we had a great time. The staff were very welcoming and the food was great. All the necessary precautions were in place and worked very well. This is one of the very few places where we felt safe in the current climate.

This is a strange compliment but I felt very safe at the Gun in that they appeared to always be cleaning and followed all the covid rules and enforced them. Most customers followed the rules, some who didn't were called out which (as unpleasant as it is) is really necessary.As usual, lovely food and really friendly staff - quite pricey though.

We had heard good things about the Gun Inn but were somewhat disappointed. We had booked a table at 3pm on Bank-holiday Sunday. So admittedly one could expect pubs to be busy. Equally that should not be a surprise as booking a table was essential. It took 5 minutes to get seated and another hour to get our food on the table. We had to prompt our waitress at every turn of our visit. Waiting staff were often huddled behind the bar and around the till and not venturing out to check if customers were in need of a drink or still waiting for their food. The food was nice enough but not meeting our expectation. Maybe they are high, but then... we may be spoiled by the superb lunch experiences in the Cow and Oak in Worthing. Gun Inn's roast turkey was supposed to come with stuffing but did not until we asked for it. The onion gravy of the nut roast was gloopy and did not appear to be home made. To her credit though, our waitress offered a plate of bread and olives on the house when we asked about the whereabouts of our food after 45mins. I guess it's all about expectation. It's a decent pub and the food was good but it was not as good as we expected it to be and the service could definitely be more attentive.Also worthwhile pointing the Covid hygiene: we've definitely seen places with a more rigorous protocol. I've not seen any staff sanitising their hands at regular intervals. Staff were wearing face-masks but occasionally taking them off for fresh air; not washing/sanitising hands after. Glasses were handed by staff to the customer; no use of trays. No paper towels and sanitiser in the toilets. And our table - even though reserved for us, had crumbs on and did not appear to have been wiped thoroughly. Yes it was a busy Bank Holiday but these don't come as a surprise.

Had a VERY tasty lunch in the beer garden and it was damn near perfect. Service was quick & efficient (menu is a cool touch) and the food was great. The prawn starter stole the show - think they might genuinely be the tastiest prawns in garlic I’ve eaten in years. Food was good value and already planning a return trip.

My husband and I recently tried the Gun Inn for the first time.We chose a Monday... Burger night.Staff were very welcoming and friendly. They explained the new safety measures. As this was our first meal out since lockdown, we were a little apprehensive, but were instantly put at ease by the staff, and excellent measures in place to keep everyone safe.Lovely garden, excellent burger, with bacon and blue cheese. Homemade coleslaw and French fries.We weren't rushed, and had a very pleasant evening. Will definitely return, hoping to try the Tuesday, French evening, next time.

What an absolutely amazing find. We tripped into the Gun looking for a steak to find that there was a French themed evening on a Tuesday. Lit by candlelight with a lovely log fire the ambience was that of years gone by. Our welcome from Sally and the team was lovely, warm and unpressured.We looked at the menus and were more than happy with the choices. Each course (we had three) was beautifully presented and it's a long time since I have been able to say that I have eaten food so expertly flavoured and combined. I'm ex restaurant trade and very fussy!To be honest we said to Sally that we felt the menu was under priced for the quality of the food that they serve. Especially as you had a glass of wine included!My husband and I have had such an unexpectedly lovely evening and will aim to visit again when we are in the area.We have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous eatery to you all and encourage you to travel to sample the menu.Thankyou Sally and team. You have set the bar high!

I had heard the food was good so when I was arranging a night out for 4 of us I booked the Gun, it had been a couple of years since I visited. We had a nice table in the pub area and there were a few other tables in that evening. The staff were friendly and helpful and bought the drinks to us quickly. We only wanted a main course each, I was disappointed with the menu as there were only 6 choices and one of those had run out and only had 2 pies left. Fortunately there is a blackboard with 3 dishes of the day so 3 of us had the burger and the other the pie. They were all nicely presented and the burger was delicious. The prices are fairly reasonable, we had a pleasant evening.
