Vriendelijkheid troef.

I go to this café a lot and it is probably my favourite coffee shop in Strathaven. The scenery that you can see outside of the window is beautiful; the staff are extremely friendly and polite; the whole place is very clean; the food is excellent; and I love to wonder around the attached gift shop.

Stopped in here for lunch while driving the A71, and had a lovely, cheap lunch. The cafe was very clean, and the service was great (and all staff were closely following COVID rules). Would recommend to anyone that doesn’t know the area and would like a affordable, homemade lunch!

A welcome return after a long absence to one of Strathaven's best establishments. Nestling off the main road by the side of the gurgling burn which runs through the beautiful common green is The old Smiddy. Not only an excellent lunch spot but a cornucopia of delight for unusual gifts, jewellery, handbags and artwork. We perused the varied menu and all agreed on the same thing. We had the soup'n' sandwich deal. You can choose any sandwich accompanied by a medium bowl of soup. Today's soup was carrot, coconut and Chili. I was intrigued by this ķusual concoction and was glad when my curiosity was rewarded by a creamy, tasty not too spicy delicious soup. We then had toasted panini's with brie and carmalised onion chutney. The Panini were perfectly toasted. Crisp on the outside with the brie deliciously melted on the inside. We then chose from a very large variety of tray bake items too many to list. We had a selection which we cut into shareable pieces. A sweet smorgasbord where you get to try a few things instead of just one. This was all washed down with some pots of satisfying Earl Grey Tea. My friend bought several items from the shop at reasonable prices. We were all impressed by food quality and service. In these troubled times its important to note that every precaution had been taken as regards food and premises hygiene. We were also recipients of the new Govt scheme of 50% off all food during August, Mon-Wed only. Our £30 bill being halved to £15. I would thoroughly recommend this quaint little gem to anyone seeking a quality dining experience in Strathaven.

Excellent bistro selling a variety of home-baking and fab coffee. We visited on a Saturday lunchtime and chose a table outside in the sun. Our panini, coffee and chocolate torte were delicious! Friendly service and a great wee gift shop! Will return!

Quaint lunch venue with gift shop attached. Excellent home made soup and sandwiches at good prices. Can be a bit slow at busy times. Attentive staff serving good quality food and if you've a mind you can pick up a wee gift on the way out (providing you pay for it).

We were visiting Strathaven on business not pleasure and it was late in the day before we had a chance to eat. A warm welcome was received by a good natured young waitress who remained unflustered even when I changed my order at the last minute! A very extensive menu was available plus what looked like a wide selection of tasty cakes. We both had the sandwich and soup combo. The broccoli and cheese soup was exceptionally tasty. Thank you to everyone there for a pleasant interlude to what otherwise was a stressful day.

As it was such a lovely day my friend and I decided to visit Strathaven and have some lunch. A local recommended The Old Smiddy which I had been in before many years ago. We both had soup and sandwiches followed by a traybake and coffee. We were served promptly and the food was good. We were impressed by the staff who were friendly, polite and very efficient. All in all a very satisfactory visit and we even found some Christmas gifts in the adjoining gift shop.

Another one of Strathavens gems, a range of snacks, lunches and if you prefer a cake or scone with your tea or coffee in an ideal location. Beside the stream that flows through the town you can dine indoors or out, delightful.

The wee cafe is set off the road and would be easily missed, but it would be worth while looking for it because as well as a lovely cafe the shop is full of beautiful unusual gift ideas,it is deceptive from the outside (looks tiny) but open’s into a much larger area as you walk through the door.

Strathaven is bristling with coffee shops and eateries and this is one of the best.It is slightly hidden down an incline beside a little stream off Green St. There is an extensive menu to choose from Sandwiches ,Paninis and Baguettes are all available with various fillings. We plumped for hearty lentil and minestrone soups respectively which were served with delicious crusty bread. Now i am partial to the odd fruit slice but have difficulty in finding my favourite iced ones. The icing really is the icing on the cake when it comes to fruit slices. This was available as special of the day accompanied by your choice of tea or coffee. My friend had a lovely white chocolate millionaires shortbread. Very, very nice. While you're waiting for your order to be delivered which won't be long. You can have a quick browse at the adjoining gift and jewellery shop.No tack here,Some really unusual items were on sale like the purchase made by my friend a money box in the guise of an old Singer sewing machine. A really good range of jewellery also awaits your pleasure. Art lovers may also browse and purchase some really nice large framed paintings. This is the place to find that something special for someone special. The staff are really helpful, friendly and attentive. Now the best part. The soup,Crusty bread, cakes, tea and coffee came in at just under £10 for two.A perfect place to spend a whole rainy afternoon.great for intimate chatting too.Go Find.

Old blacksmiths workshop converted some years ago to a very nice café if you can get a conservatory table you have a nice view of the small river that runs through the town centre and watch the wildlife if your lucky the odd grey heron. The food and service are very good and not expensive they do soup and sandwich deals and the range of sandwiches is very good. You can select from a choice of bread sandwiches, wraps or Panini's. The café also has a gift shop with a nice range of gifts for visitors to the town or for locals looking for something different. The staff are friendly and helpful. The café is also fully accessible for wheelchair users though the approach down to the café is a bit on the steep side but manageable.

Small tea shop/cafe overlooking the river with a gift shop attached. Basic menu of sandwiches, toasties, paninis & soup. with a selection of "homemade" cakes to choose from. My young son really likes this place but for me it does as quick "pit stop" after rugby training & wouldn't be my first choice if I was given one! Staff are friendly & efficient. Could do with a bit of a menu revamp.

My husband and I visited the Abbeygreen Cafe today for lunch enroute from Elgin to Warwickshire. It is ideally situated just off the M74 motorway. We had a warm welcome from the friendly staff and the food, drink and service were excellent. Prices were very reasonable . We would highly recommend. !
