The Old Siam in York

A little on the pricey side- would recommend going early for the early bird menu. Would recommend booking in advance if planning to go on a Saturday evening. Food is tasty. Nice atmosphere but can be chilly if seated by the doors. Great service- attentive and friendly. Only one toilet which is placed just outside the kitchen so if it’s occupied you will find yourself standing in the way of the staff and in front of other diners (I can understand this is not their fault but just to be weary of). Only thing we had which I wouldn’t recommend is the pad see ew as it didn’t have that nice smokey, charred taste to it. The pad kee mow was delicious (as was everything else)!

This was our first time trying thai food, our host Tudor was very helpful and attentive, absolutely amazing experience would definitely recommend, Thankyou!

Oh my goodness! What a cracking meal we had here. We all had two courses and there was 5 of us, all of us couldn’t compliment the food more. The soup appetizers - highly recommend! Pad Thai was gorgeous and the sticky rice even came in the cutest bamboo warmers. Equally as good as the food was the service! Every single server there was so kind attentive and helpful when we asked for suggestions. Definitely a place for a lovely and delicious meal - I would definitely go back! Thank you so much for a lovely meal.

Tried The Old Siam while visiting York and what a lovely place staff attentive couldn't do enough ,food was amazing would definitely recommend anyone trying this place .

Very tasty. If you like very spicy food, order medium unless you are Thai. I ordered a ground pork with basil dish and it was fantastic.

Absolutely loved this place, Cosy atmosphere, staff are all lovely, funny, helpful, attentive, we went for the early bird special and we loved the spring rolls and wontons, mains we plucked for massaman and pad Thai, all of the food was delicious, specially the massaman, really good value for £23, will 100% return, perfect

Really amazing food, well presented, really good staff, quick service but also not too quick. We had a small child with us which wasnt a problem and the decor is nice. They let us take the leftovers home which is great because the portion sizes are good. Not the cheapest but worth it.

The staff were lovely and the meal was excellent. Mixed starter was fantastic and the Thai chicken red curry with coconut rice was delicious. So full we had to take the leftovers. Nothing was too much trouble for the young man that served us. Will definitely be back; can't wait.

Today I was really craving some Thai food, and I stumbled upon this gem. The entire staff was fantastic—so friendly and well-spoken, which made the experience even better. My server recommended the curry along with a side of rice, and both were spot on. The food was bursting with flavor, and the portion size was just right. On top of that, the ambiance was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a good meal. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’d definitely come back! One thing to note: they don’t accept tips through card payments, so be sure to have some cash on hand.

We eat early and ended up on the early bird menu which is a scaled down menu. This initially threw me but I chose 2 things and enjoyed it. The service is the standout though, all the service staff had a lovely smile and welcome for everyone and were really skilled in their timing for checking on you and moving on your meal. The menu says service is charged at 12.5% and me and my husband said during our meal they were deserving of every penny unlike a lot of places that presumptuously put it on. But when we got the bill it said service was not included and our server said they can't add it on via card that they can only accept cash. Well we didn't have any cash, so we apologised and he said it doesn't matter all that matters is that we enjoyed our food! How's that for lovely.

The sharing starter - my goodness - it's a must. Brilliant value and totally delicious. Definitely worth a visit but be sure to book as it's busy.

Booked a table for 2 this evening. Super friendly and efficient service, lots of smiles from all the front house team. We had the early bird menu, good choice and very tasty food. What a lovely find, thank you!

We arrived without a booking but Tula managed to squeeze us in. He was very professional and really tried to bend over backwards to squeeze us in. We came back in 30 minutes and we had one of the nicest Thai meals we’ve ever had. The massaman curry was easily the best we’ve ever had! Big thanks to Tula for his brilliant service and the kitchen for an amazing meal!

Delicious Thai experience. We were there at teatime, early bird menu was great. Food was amazing I had Pad Kra Poa, thankfully waiter was very knowledgeable and asked did I like heat in my food. They held back and I still got a kick. Staff very polite and pleasant. Definitely be back if visiting York again.

Gorgeous Thai food at this restaurant. Had the duck rolls which the meat was lovely and the green Thai curry and sticky rice - also really lovely - food felt fresh and great quality. Service was great and lovely atmosphere. Will certainly go back even though I'm not local!

Stunning Thai food here! Decided to have a last minute meal out before we left York and booked in here. Staff very lovely and welcoming and the food was phenomenal! Would return again if we lived nearby. Can highly recommend the duck spring rolls and the Kho Moo Yang (pork shoulder)!

Down in York for the Ebor horse meeting on the Saturday. So we booked in here for the Friday night . Had the duck spring rolls and Beef KAENG MASSAMAN . Service for the 6 of us was excellent and no delay . Very friendly and polite . The food was absolutely delicious, it was one of the best Thai meals I’ve ever tasted . Can’t wait to go back 10/10 .

Amazing food and great friendly staff, definitely will come again. We had the dinner specials for £22.99 we had starters and mains and we all enjoyed the meals that we ordered.

Was lovely food and great pricing for the quality and portion sizes Everyone who worked there who we crossed paths with was lovely, and one in particular was amazing help (wish I got the name - but he helped with our meal being spicy and toning it down as we are weak). Take cash to tip the waiters as they don’t accept card tips (card payments they do though) - think this is something they could introduce for the waiters.

Delicious food full of flavour, which proved a very successful introduction to Thai cuisine for my teenage granddaughter.

although I'm not much of a fan of thai, I did leave this restaurant with a polished plate and a satisfied mouth. the staff were attentive and informative, especially as the restaurant got busier. our food arrived on time and cooked to perfection. although the total was a tad pricey, there was no harm in helping out an independent business. The free sweets also paid off. couldn't recommend more to a person craving a flavourful Thai.

The best food I have had in York! The prawn crackers and dip provided were also very nice to have inbetween the appetizers and the main! The spicy rice dish with chicken was also amazing, the heat/spice works really well with the lime and gives a fresh but definite kick! Thank you! It is my girlfriend's favourite place to eat in York and it was a nice surprise for our date! :) (Sept 16th, Saturday)

We went for a birthday meal here and honestly has been so so lush! Tudor has been so lovely from the start and kept us all happy all throughout, especially as a chatty table of 11! Food was absolutely delicious we went of the 2 course menu for £22.95PP. As it was a birthday, we secretly went and asked for a little dessert with a candle which they were more than happy to offer! Tudor has made our meal and is an absolute asset to the company! Will certainly be back next time we are in York x

I have dined here many times over the years and was always extremely impressed with the food and friendly service. Sadly I have had to amend my previous 5 star review. Appears to be under new ownership/management, with the previously friendly waiting staff no longer here. On my most recent visit, the prices have gone to extortionate levels and the portion sizes are extremely small. Now £8-£10 minimum for a starter, £18 for a prawn pad Thai and pitifully small portions for the money, especially with overcooked chewy prawns. Would now not return. A real shame to see profit being put before loyal custom.

** This review is nothing to do with the quality of food ** However when it comes to collecting orders from here they are NEVER ready. And the couriers are told to wait outside regardless of the weather, it can be pouring down and still told to wait whilst they prepare the order at their own timescale. I don’t experience this at restaurants such as Zaap, Rosa and Mommy Thai, these are all friendly and accommodating. If you are thinking about ordering food from here and want it on time, consider an alternative Thai restaurant.

We’ve had good meals here before (when eating in the restaurant) but don’t bother ordering for delivery. Smaller portions, very slow and cold by the time it arrives. We spent £50 this evening and are thoroughly underwhelmed with our order.

Had a great evening at The Old Siam. The service was super and friendly. Very helpful suggestions and advice. The food was outstanding. So flavoursome and delicious. Not a bland item came to our table. There’s more than enough choice for those of us who don’t like our food too spicy and for those that do. So don’t be put off by thinking it’s all hot spicy food. It isn’t. What you get, here is amazing service, lovely atmosphere and food that’s so tasty. It was the highlight of our week in York. Well done everyone.

Word of mouth brought me to book a meal here. All I can say is that everything lived upto expectations. Food was lovely, service was attentive and the place had a good feeling about it when inside.

Been here a few times and the service is always excellent. The food is the best Thai I've ever had. The flavours are brilliant and fresh.

Popped in for a very quick lunch on a Saturday as we only had 40 minutes to get some food whilst attending a conference nearby. My summary: seated straight away, very friendly staff, well priced and interesting menu, food arrived quickly (but not too quickly!) and it was so tasty. We both had pineapple fried rice, which was served in half a hollowed out pineapple. Put a smile on our faces! The waiter was very happy to check for my friend's food allergy before confirming our order, everything was so easy. I'll be returning with other friends and family now, so I'd thoroughly recommend!

The best massaman curry I’ve ever tasted! Service top notch, food was incredible. Would recommend to anyone visiting York who’s fancying Thai cuisine. Would advise to book in advance as not surprisingly they’re busy!

Lovely little Thai place with smiling staff and delicious food!

Excellent food, portions are deceiving, doesn't look a lot, but rest assured it is. Staff were polite, pleasant and helpful Just far enough outside the city centre to be an enjoyable quiet establishment, no noise from outside traffic.

We were so delighted by how wonderful this restaurant is. After traveling through England for a few days, we wanted food with some spice to it. Every dish on the early bird menu we had was superb. Tom Yum soup, duck spring rolls with plum sauce, red curry with vegetables and chicken, flat noodles with basil, house white wine-everything was perfect. Staff was friendly, welcoming and timed everything just right.

Lovely little restaurant near the walls if York. Second visit and the food was as lovely as the first time we came. Reasonably priced and good service. Big shout out to the waitress who came running after us after my husband left his phone on the table.

Starter giant king prawns were just king prawns and over cooked. However the main meals were reasonable and similar to other Indonesian restaurants. Overall a pleasant evening.

Thai food is my food of choice, I have tried many many restaurants in this country and overseas and this is possibly the second best Thai food I have ever tasted. Amazing food, great service, only criticism is it was a little cold in the restaurant. Thank you for your amazing food and hospitality.

The food tasted old, the pancakes as though the had been in the freezer a long time. Not very warm. Im a little disappointed as this was my favourite Thai after being disappointed else were.

If you like Thai food you must eat here. I had the Massaman Kae and it has ruined all future Thai experiences for me. I don’t think I will ever taste anything delicious again. I can’t wait to go back to York, even if it is for the day I will stay later so I can have a evening meal there again.

Fatnastic food great staff. I had the Massaman Kae and to be honest it has spoilt me. If I compare every other Thia resuarant I go to after this I will not enjoy ever another meal. The tender pork ribs starter was also perfect. If ever i return to York I will book a table here in advance, I may ever go to York for the day just so I can eat here again and I am not just saying that. I like Thai food and this is the best I have ever had.

Best restaurant ever! Me and my partner visited here whilst on holiday in York as it was near our hotel. The staff were excellent from the minute we walked in - friendly and attentive. We went for the early bird menu. We shared the vegetable spring rolls and sweetcorn cakes which were very tasty. For mains we had the veg and tofu railway fried rice and the Thai red chicken curry. We both said it’s the best Thai food we’ve ever had! We had ice cream for dessert, they had some interesting flavours including yuzu and Thai tea which were both lovely! If you’re in York you need to go here! We will be back!

Only popped in by accident as our intended meet up was full but what a great find. Just had a selection of starters, mixed platter, garlic noodles etc but everything we had was delicious, really great quality Thai food, Will definitely come back for dinner. The service, from Ida, was excellent, really helpful and friendly Bring cash to leave a tip, embarrassingly we had no cash and they don't add to bill, we'll catch you next time Ida!

Absolutely perfect meal and experience. We had the dumplings to start and then the leg of lamb massaman curry and the steamed sea bass. Everything was soooooo fresh and tasty. Wine was also excellent as was the service. Just a perfect dinning experience in every way and next time in York we will definitely be back.

Paid over £50 on our Thai banquet It came in one small carrier bag, all the meat was dry and everything else tasted the same, we’ve had Thai a few times and thought we’d treat ourselves… never again

Absolutely amazing. The food was incredible couldn’t fault it. We had the early bird special all four of us, including a starter, main and a drink with £21 each. The duck spring rolls was lush! As well as the pad Thai. The portions were perfect size. All four of us enjoyed the food and I personally am a picky eater I’d say. Staff there was also really nice. Tall lad with a top bun was very attentive.

The food at The Old Siam was amazing. Tasteful, well prepared and full of flavor. We came early enough (before 630PM) for the Early Bird special and it is a great value. The service here is superb. The wait staff is the right level of attentiveness without being overwhelming. Recommend it.

Was in York with friends for two nights. Came across this place when looking for somewhere to eat on the first night and decided to try it. Food was delicious, generous portions and service excellent with really friendly staff. We all enjoyed our meal that much, we decided to go back for our second night! Nicest Thai food I've ever had and they will adjust spice level on request (I like my food very spicy). We thought it was reasonably priced too. Would definitely go again when next in York.

I am not a foodie; I am happy with most food but rarely impressed enough to write a review. It was several weeks ago I ordered the Pad See Mow with roasted duck & I still have very fond memories of it. Absolutely delicious (& I rarely say that).
