Great Thai food & a relaxed atmosphere in this cosy restaurant.... 2nd time here & just as good as the 1st time. Booking recommended.

Lovely little restaurant near the walls if York. Second visit and the food was as lovely as the first time we came. Reasonably priced and good service. Big shout out to the waitress who came running after us after my husband left his phone on the table.

Great service, great food. All cooked fresh to order, not a speck of oil/grease and absolutely amazing flavours. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed. We had chicken satay, duck spring rolls (the best I've ever had) pad Thai and panang curry. All amazing.

Starter giant king prawns were just king prawns and over cooked. However the main meals were reasonable and similar to other Indonesian restaurants. Overall a pleasant evening.

Thai food is my food of choice, I have tried many many restaurants in this country and overseas and this is possibly the second best Thai food I have ever tasted. Amazing food, great service, only criticism is it was a little cold in the restaurant. Thank you for your amazing food and hospitality.

Lovely food, some dishes were rather small portions for the price. The service was efficient and friendly. The tables are a bit close to other parties for my liking.

The food tasted old, the pancakes as though the had been in the freezer a long time. Not very warm. Im a little disappointed as this was my favourite Thai after being disappointed else were.

If you like Thai food you must eat here. I had the Massaman Kae and it has ruined all future Thai experiences for me. I don’t think I will ever taste anything delicious again. I can’t wait to go back to York, even if it is for the day I will stay later so I can have a evening meal there again.

Fatnastic food great staff. I had the Massaman Kae and to be honest it has spoilt me. If I compare every other Thia resuarant I go to after this I will not enjoy ever another meal. The tender pork ribs starter was also perfect. If ever i return to York I will book a table here in advance, I may ever go to York for the day just so I can eat here again and I am not just saying that. I like Thai food and this is the best I have ever had.

Best restaurant ever! Me and my partner visited here whilst on holiday in York as it was near our hotel. The staff were excellent from the minute we walked in - friendly and attentive. We went for the early bird menu. We shared the vegetable spring rolls and sweetcorn cakes which were very tasty. For mains we had the veg and tofu railway fried rice and the Thai red chicken curry. We both said it’s the best Thai food we’ve ever had! We had ice cream for dessert, they had some interesting flavours including yuzu and Thai tea which were both lovely! If you’re in York you need to go here! We will be back!

Only popped in by accident as our intended meet up was full but what a great find. Just had a selection of starters, mixed platter, garlic noodles etc but everything we had was delicious, really great quality Thai food, Will definitely come back for dinner. The service, from Ida, was excellent, really helpful and friendly Bring cash to leave a tip, embarrassingly we had no cash and they don't add to bill, we'll catch you next time Ida!

All four of us had a delicious meal so definitely a very good restaurant.I would go back for any occasion when the food is of such a high standard.

Absolutely perfect meal and experience. We had the dumplings to start and then the leg of lamb massaman curry and the steamed sea bass. Everything was soooooo fresh and tasty. Wine was also excellent as was the service. Just a perfect dinning experience in every way and next time in York we will definitely be back.

Paid over £50 on our Thai banquet It came in one small carrier bag, all the meat was dry and everything else tasted the same, we’ve had Thai a few times and thought we’d treat ourselves… never again

Absolutely amazing. The food was incredible couldn’t fault it. We had the early bird special all four of us, including a starter, main and a drink with £21 each. The duck spring rolls was lush! As well as the pad Thai. The portions were perfect size. All four of us enjoyed the food and I personally am a picky eater I’d say. Staff there was also really nice. Tall lad with a top bun was very attentive.

The food at The Old Siam was amazing. Tasteful, well prepared and full of flavor. We came early enough (before 630PM) for the Early Bird special and it is a great value. The service here is superb. The wait staff is the right level of attentiveness without being overwhelming. Recommend it.

Really excellent restaurant great food and service on a side note if you intend to leave a tip take cash. You can't do it through the card machine

Was in York with friends for two nights. Came across this place when looking for somewhere to eat on the first night and decided to try it. Food was delicious, generous portions and service excellent with really friendly staff. We all enjoyed our meal that much, we decided to go back for our second night! Nicest Thai food I've ever had and they will adjust spice level on request (I like my food very spicy). We thought it was reasonably priced too. Would definitely go again when next in York.

Lovely food and aesthetics, but being close to the kitchen we were bombarded with chilli fumes which made eyes water.

I am not a foodie; I am happy with most food but rarely impressed enough to write a review. It was several weeks ago I ordered the Pad See Mow with roasted duck & I still have very fond memories of it. Absolutely delicious (& I rarely say that).

The food and service were incredible, would recommend the tom-yum soup and the pad yellow curry seafood. Yum nua yang was delicious as well.

If you are ever in York and wanting to experience true authentic Thai Cuisine, the The Old Siam restaurant is the only place you need on your list. I loved it so much I returned again few nights later to sample some more of the delicious menu. The staff are very courteous and knowledge about the food drink they are serving and are very willing to explain anything about dish or drink if you are unsure. The food was top quality authentic taste sensation culinary journey. You could tell it was cooked with love and care by the talented kitchen team. You can also choose your protein for to finish the dishes to your liking. If I ever return to York, I will be regular diner at this restaurant to try anything new on the menu or my all time regular favourites on the menu.

Possibly the best Thai restaurant I’ve been to - fresh, authentic and delicious. I had the Yum Nua Yang to start, melt in the mouth sirloin beef with a beautiful dressing. I went for the King Prawn Rad Prik for main, which was equally impressive, full of flavour. Great portion sizes, friendly staff. Make sure you visit!

We have just visited with our 10 year old son. We all loved the food. Brilliant choice for vegetarians (and absolutely no fake meat!). Service was a little slow as they were very busy, however this was explained at the outset and was not a problem. Lovely friendly staff. What a shame we live in Devon or we’d be back!

Went here for the first time tonight..such a great place to eat at. Food was incredible, the service was spot on, friendly and polite. Not necessarily the cheapest place but not the most expensive either.. Service charge felt quite a lot. But would recommend and will go again when in the area.. 7 of us are here. Quite small but they get a lot of people in.

A great find near the Micklegate and our best dinner over four nights in York. The sharing platter to start was just right. Recommend booking as it was busy and a few walk-ins got turned away.

The food was delicious and the place was beautiful, would highly recommend it! Would like to make a special for our waiter Tudor! He really made the whole evening special, he was great fun and is an asset to the restaurant! We promised to come back the next day and leave a tip but we had to leave the hotel early so please tell him we will stop by next time we’re in York!

Amazing Food, Lovely Staff and Cosy atmosphere. a little on the pricy side when à la carte but is defiantly a Treat spot and work going for the Lunch menu on a weekend.

Great value at lunchtime with many options available. A 2 course option is a steal @ £17 Excellent ribs, With a garlicky kick . And a rich red curry with some duck was Devine, best saucing in ages, balanced with a subtle kick. Good portion sizes and swift service .

It was sooooooo delicious. All the foods here tasted great but a little bit sweet, which suit my preference. Especially the ice cream, Thai tea was the most delicious one I ever ever eaten.

We booked for the early bird option earlier tonight. A starter plus main plus a beer or glass of wine cost £22 each. I am not a keen fan of Thai food but can honestly say this is the best Thai meal I have had. The food is of the highest quality and the staff are all lovely and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant itself is relatively small but is busy. This gave it a vibrant yet intimate feel and we never felt rushed in any way. Needless to say we would highly recommend this restaurant.

I was up in York for a few days and was looking for a place to eat close to where I was staying. I had noticed The Old Siam when I had gone for a walk along Micklegate. This was a Thai restaurant with wooden floors and batik wall hangings. When I arrived it was quite busy, but I was given a warm welcome. I was shown to my table. I liked the atmosphere of the place, and there was a real buzz about it. The wooden furniture offered an informal dining experience which I liked. There was quite a lot of choice of different Thai dishes on the menu, but in the end I decided to go for the salt n pepper soft shell crab as a starter followed by the mixed seafood pad cashew nut as my main course. The salt n pepper soft shell crab was soft shell crab in a tempura batter with garlic, salt, pepper and served with sriracha sauce. The batter was nice and crispy and I liked the crab, which had a real crab flavour. Sometimes when I’ve had battered soft shell crab, the crab can be somewhat tasteless. This time I could definitely taste the crab. The sriracha sauce was a little too spicy for me. However, despite that I really enjoyed the crab. It wasn’t long before my main course arrived. This was stir fried light battered mixed seafood with roasted cashew nut, carrot, onion, red pepper and mushroom. Alongside I had a serving of sticky rice. This was a nice dish. There was a good mix and portion of battered seafood. I did think the batter as a little thick in places, but there was a nice crunch. The sauce was nice and there was a good amount of cashew nuts. The sauce was nice and it worked well combining all the aspects of the dish together. Overall I really liked the food here, the service was excellent, warm, and friendly. I was tempted to go again, but I know if I am up in York again, I will try and visit The Old Siam.

Well balanced fragrant fresh flavours. Friendly service. Reasonably priced. Well thought out and unexpected dishes. In a rarity these days; service charge was not included. I didn't notice this until I left so double tip next time.

Enjoyed one of the best Thai meals we have experienced. Very varied choices on the menu and all very tasty and well presented. Of special mention is the surprisingly good dessert, the Evening Star, a version of a banana split with amazing ingredients, particularly the Green Thai Tea ice cream. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We were very lucky to get a table, we had not booked in advance, but would thoroughly recommend a visit.

The best food I have had in York! The 'Angry wings' are by far the best chicken wings I have had in my life! The sweet chilli sauce and breadcrumbs coating the wings were absolutely incredible! The prawn crackers and dip provided were also very nice to have inbetween the appetizers and the main! The spicy rice dish with chicken was also amazing, the heat/spice works really well with the lime and gives a fresh but definite kick! Thank you! It is my girlfriend's favourite place to eat in York and it was a nice surprise for our date! :) (Sept 16th, Saturday)

My wife and I went here for dinner on our city break. The food was incredible and the servers were polite and attentive. I would visit again and recommend if you are in York you also visit.

We visited The Old Siam a few years back & wanted to return as it was a great experience. Sadly the second visit wasn't anywhere near as good! Upon entering a nearly full restaurant we were seated near a table of 8 very loud Yorkshiremen...

Had the weeping tiger, duck spring rolls and ribs for dinner. They were all very tasty. The only criticism is that the meat on the ribs was a little tough. Other than that, the place was amazing, great decor inside and the staff were all lovely and attentive.

We chose The Old Siam due to its proximity to the station and positive reviews. We weren’t disappointed. Micklegate is a lovely part of York, away from the city centre and the crowds. The restaurant is calm and peaceful and the food was really tasty...

Amazing find the first time I came to York and stumbled across this place, the food was delicious! Everything felt fresh and everything came out hot on the table, the service was excellent, the staff were very attentive and checked on us, I really enjoyed the Thai tea it was so refreshing, I ordered the early bird set menu! Was one of the best decisions I made as it came with a starter, main and a drink and it made my life easier and I’m quite indecisive when it comes to choosing food 😅 overall I really recommend this place if your in York.
