Friendly staff but very disappointed with the food. Kedgeree lacking fish and flavour. All a little bland and low on quality.

Sunday is Sunday and with that goes a Sunday roast. We were past the usual lunchtime roast and found this place that would still be serving later in the afternoon and was right on the Thames - we were looking for a place exactly like this. We ordered the food and some drinks as well - including wine - a table by the window - all perfect. The wine was very good - try the Malbec -the food arrived and all hot - no cold plates here - presented and served with style - this is a pub afterall - but it was not at all like one. With such a lovely meal consumed, desserts were ordered - they were lovely as well; the bill was reasonable (I thought) - no complaints from the missus either

This was so disappointing. The wine glass was very dirty, you could see multiple lipsticks on it. I asked for another and the bar tender just poured it in another glass.... The food was expensive and awful. The most basic, almost fast food burger costs 13.50. I don't know what happened to this place, it used to be good.

It's a real shame. The staff are friendly and obviously trying the best they can. But clearly have had no training. The food was average. The bathrooms are disgusting. The place is in need of investment in the facilities and the staff. The location is still good for a pint on a sunny day. But there are plenty of options near by.

Awful! The place stinks, literally. It was a Friday evening and not too busy. We sat down and after a wait my husband asked if there were any menus to order food from. The staff member gave a shrug and said "over there" and nodded in the direction of where menus could be obtained. Looking at the sparse menu and food just delivered to the adjacent table, together with staff attitude, we walked. You need to go elsewhere. The only reason for giving the place 1 "pea" is I couldn't give it none. This is just a boozer, not a restaurant.

We were walking from Barnes to Hammersmith and looking forward to lunch by the Thames. After ordering a round of drinks we discovered The Old Ship was not serving food... at lunch time on Saturday afternoon. No warning, menus still out. Very poor.

What once used to be an amazing pub great for drinks, lunch, dinner or special events has resulted to be just beautiful for its location and nothing more. The staff are so stressed as a result of being overworked and the high turnover of them means you are just lucky to get a good service. We wanted a table to have a quick meal and based on the staff they were all reserved. When we asked whether we could use one of the reserved tables that was not due for another hour and a half they said that it was up to us provided the table was free for the reservation. They have also said that it shouldn't take them long to bring the food out as we were there late afternoon and they has almost finished serving food to most tables by then. Yet! Our food arrived an hour twenty minutes later with mistakes and 10 mins later we were asked to get up as the reservation arrived. Think twice before visiting this place. Ps - I am not sure why now there is a second page for the same pub...was that a hope to create a new page with fake 5star comments in order to avoid the true reflection of their service? Bring back the old management who knew how to operate this stunnying pub.

AWFUL service, terrible atmosphere. Waited two hours for our food, was told our preorder was lost and received no apology. When our first course finally arrived, the waitress tried to start an argument with us. Worst pub in West London, avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Great pub, good atmosphere. Only one person serving at the very busy bar? Why on earth would the manager not find someone else if they had apparently been let down? Having said that the barman was very efficient! I had the roast beef which was very tasty with good selection of veg albeit smothered in a gravy which was too thin (thicken up and serve in a separate jug please) and potatoes needed crisping up. Hubbie had the battered fish which he said was good but didn't rate the triple cooked chips. Sticky toffee pud and apple crumble excellent.

Came here for a nice pint on a beautiful evening only to be scorned by the bar staff for lining up for the bar. We were told we should group together at the bar. Why have an orderly system when you can get stuck behind someone that is ordering a long winded round of drinks. While we waited for change the staff member recounted the exchange to his colleague saying it was weird.

Went here after a long walk with my family. We were lucky to get a table without reservation as it was busy! I would recommend to book in advance especially during summer. The meal was at first disappointing as there were not enough meat. We raised it to the waitress and few minutes after, we received a complimentary platter of meat from the chef! Talk about customer service! Really enjoyed the rest of our meal. Reasonable prices too!

Although we reserved a table for a party of 10 it's a 10-15min queue for the bar - woeful lack of staff on a weekend. Drinks only served in plastic at grossly inflated prices for a river view and no table service. Other pubs on the river serve in glass an if your inside why not this. The worst corporate mess up of what could be a decent riverside pub. The management should be ashamed ant the brewery or owners take it back an create what should be a Jewel.

Called in with friends for an afternoon drink at this great location. Inside, long queues (see picture) and under-staffed bar. As we were having drinks outside, plastic mugs were the order of the day. And that's fine. But why do the staff have to finger the insdes of the mugs which they would never do to a glass? And then wipe their faces with the same fingers. And then recount to colleagues that they had a complaint on the subject. And laugh -- ha ha ha. Another patron in the queue said that it's his favourite pub, but the service is diabolical. The kitchen smells of aged chip fat. You get the picture. Clearly in need of a change in management/ownership.

There is a good choice of bitters and beers. Food was good and a fine choice for lunch. I felt it was over priced but the views outside we're excellent.

Nice little pub by the river, and there is a few down there, but this one stands out as the food is better than average. Menu changes every day, and gun is top notch for a boozer.

Great location situated along the river in Chiswick. A spacious pub/restaurant with excellent "pub grub" served by a friendly team led by Sarah the landlady/manager. We had fish and chips ( big portions) and the vegetarian Wellington with marvellous roast potatoes. The wine list is good and well priced, I recommend the Merlot Cabernet which was excellent value. I highly recommend this nice riverside pub along the Chiswick Mall.

1- you can't get the drink that you actually ordered as they don't know the difference between a Perroni and a Kronenbourg.2- you can't sit a table even though they are all empty because you have to do as you've been told by a less than clever waitress.3- 5 quid a pint are you kidding me?

I always throughly enjoy coming along to the M&S cafe in Stratford, Westfields, whereby I am greeted with Billy. I have met Billy on numerous occasions and always goes above and beyond! Such a valuable member of your staff- don’t let him leave!

This pub is so lovely and welcoming with affordable drinks and tequila. The barmaid Tyla was so friendly and gave a lot of information about the area for places to eat. Will definitely visit again hopefully tyla is still working there.

Sadly, as I was a reasonably frequent Balans guest, I am compelled to write a bad review. Cocktails were fabulicios, but alas, that is where the fabulous ended. The menu seems reduced, so we picked bites and sides; croquettes, mac cheese, chicken strips and skin on chips. These I sum up as cold, cold, burned and old. We watched the burned chicken, croquettes and chips in the windows for at least 15 minutes so they were stone cold, even the dishes, when we eventually persuaded the hard pushed waiter to bring g them to us. The chicken was black in places; however, the most inexcusable was the chips. No skin and very old. When I say old, the potatoes had clearly been cooked once and left for a day or two to go grey and powdery. Whether they were fried again on the day I do not know as they too, were cold. All in all, for £127, we had six cocktails and the disappointment of having to order a pizza when we got home. Really disappointing, as Balans used to he a bit if a staple of mine and only ten minutes away. Sorry, Balans, once loved, but from now on forgotten. I recommend the Bull next door feom now on.
