Food was awful. Service was awful. Waited 2 hours for food. Was told hour and half later than when we ordered that the braised beef x3 would have to be x2 as never had enough. But tbh when it came out, I’m glad I didn’t have it. It looked inedible which it was , partner sent it bak and had an entirely different meal which was not eaten either as was tough and bland. Every plate from the group of 7 had left most there dinner. It was an absolute disaster from waiting to service to food. I wouldn't go back here if you paid me. Worst meal Ive had in over 20 years if not ever. Food taste disgusting cold and tbh it all looked inedible and I’ve actually had stomach cramps since eating here. Hygiene didn’t look great either. I believe it would be shut down if they investigated this place.

The food went back twice fist time cold the second time because they just put the chips back in the fryer no apology plate just plonked on the table bad food and poor customer service been going here for over twenty five years but after tonight we will not b returning.

Just had to say that I've just had the fillet steak fajitas and WOW they were AMAZING, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Well done chef

Turned up for a late birthday dinner as over ran at previous location , tables dirty, room dark and dingy. Ordered two curries a kids pasta and mix grill. Kids pasta looked like old cereal dry and unrecognisable as pasta. Curry was basically a cheap ready meal with no flavour rice was soggy and meat inedible. Left all the meat and just ate the sauce because was starving. Kids mixed grill was ok egg was like rubber. Very disappointed bar staff seemed very miserable barely spoke and slammed drinks down on bar felt quite uncomfortable. Was nowhere to be seen when we was eating or when we left…

Little under staffed, seemed a little manic behind bar, kept hearing classes smashing. Starters where good, outside of my burger was cooked middle was raw.

Appalling. Management have no control over the day to day operation. This leads to a lack of hygiene, poor levels of service and very high levels of staff turnover. Advice is: avoid at all costs to stay healthy

Food was good, the steak couldve possibly been a bit rarer. The service however cannot be faulted! Mark the manager especially! After our dog had a little accident we were still made to feel very welcome. In addition to this Mark then brought out some sausage for our dog and also a blanket and some water to keep her happy! After talking to Mark he clearly has huge aspirations for this pub, the owners just need to sell it to him! He could make it a much better place!

Spot on meal great service perfect surrounding, great value for money a monster mixed grill for £20 can’t argue with that

Leaving meal night out with X work mates . I’ve always been a fan of this pub with a nice location and good priced food. Back in the day I came for a meal with a group of friends and the menu has remained the same. But why ever change a good thing! Plenty to choose from starters , mains and desserts. The staff are welcoming but we felt it was excellent value so not stop you from returning. 👍

First time back after long time away due to poor service well what an amazing change so good we have been back two days out of three. service was great the food was amazing and the fire is back brilliant nite

We have been coming here for years prior to lockdown and decided to bring a group of friends along,big mistake!!.My son ordered the 64 oz rump medium,I ordered 12oz fillet along with other food and side dishes,when it finally arrived my son was told to start eating it and then send it back to Finnish cooking it because the chef wasn’t sure if it was cooked,in fact it looked like it had been cooked in an oven,it was so well done,very difficult for such a large steak on the grill.My fillet steak just looked like the end bit from a joint of meat and very tough,the side orders onion rings mushrooms/pepper sauce never came,l asked several members of staff at least 6 or seven times before they arrived one at a time,by this time I’d had enough of trying to hack my way through this piece of meat which was certainly not a fillet,so I sent it back for a replacement ,20 minutes later after everyone else had finished their meal there was no sign of mine so I just cancelled it.The staff were very rude and at no time did we get an apology,so after what should have been a nice evening I was left hungry!!.I sent my complaint through on their website and didn’t even get a reply,all very very unprofessional and needless to say we won’t be going back.

Went on a friend's recommendation, luckily for us they had to endure it with us. Got there, and were seated quickly, well I say seated, we werernt shown at all. Drinks came and we ordered food. After 35ish minutes we were asked about dessert, which would have been great had we had our mains. We were then told they had messed up and could we reorder. By the time the food came it had been over an hour. I firmly believe that when out for food it should be better than can be made at home. This certainly wasn't. Over cooked steak which was probably put on the stove when the 1st order was taken, and the taste of the deep south was more like taste of Icelands freezer. To make matters worse when the replacement steak was identified as inedible we were met with a rude, angry little man who would give sherlock Holmes a run for his money. According to him rump steak is ment to be tough, which is ridiculous and a steak knife couldn't cut it! The table behind us also sent 1 steak back by the gentleman and the lady had left over half as it was fat and gristle. Tables were closer together than covid regs, and there was a large party of about 10 plus adults and plenty of children all seated together. They had a few covid related signs up but noone enforced the mask rules at all.Not only was this a waste of time but also money and petrol. Will never be back again. Avoid at all costs.

After recommending this to friends, we all decided to go here for dinner 3/7/21 and arrived at 18.30 after booking online. We ordered food and drinks after about ten minutes, and received our drinks. 35 minutes went by and the waitress came to see if we wanted dessert. We explained we had not received our mains yet. She went to the kitchen to investigate and then came back and said our order had not gone through and could we order again. One of our friends said to forget it and that he wasn’t bothered anymore, the other 3 of us re ordered our food and some more drinks. The food came after about another 25 minutes. My partner had steak and ordered medium rare, the steak that came was extremely well done. No one came to check the food was ok for about ten minutes. When they did, my partner said that her steak was not cooked how she had asked for it. The waitress took this away and said she would get it made again. After about ten minutes the fresh steak arrived but they had forgotten the Stilton sauce. This was brought out after a few minutes, by which time my partner had tried the new steak and it was extremely tough and chewy/gristly. My friend and I had taste of the Deep South, the goujons were very overcooked, the Cajun chicken had way too much seasoning on it, but we did not say anything as by this point we were so hungry we would have eaten almost anything!!! Nobody came to check our food was ok, then when the time came to pay, my partner said that her steak was tough and chewy and she did not feel very happy paying full price when she had only eaten a third of it, and the waitress said she would go speak to someone. A man then came out who I presume was the manager (Richard) and asked what the problem was. My girlfriend explained about the steak, the first one being over cooked and the second one being chewy and tough. He then said that rump steak is always chewy and that’s just how rump steak is. He said “what do you want me to do about it?” My girlfriend said she did not want to pay full price as it wasn’t nice and said “how would you feel paying 16.50 for a meal that wasn’t very nice?” He then asked how much of it she had eaten and just disappeared for 10 minutes, where at this point we seriously considered just walking out. He came back, slammed the receipt down on the table and said “I’ve taken the steak off the bill” and walked away. No apology was offered and his attitude seemed to imply that we were to blame for not liking the food. He was extremely abrupt and rude and his attitude was disgusting! We paid for the rest of the food, which was extremely awkward as he was giving us daggers the whole time. Safe to say we won’t be back, which is a shame as this place used to be fantastic. Severely gone downhill and would give zero stars if I could!!!

we had two tables booked for 11 people for birthday celebrations! food was fantastic and service just as good! would definitely recommend. great food quality and so reasonably priced can’t fault this place will definitely be going back

We have been to The Old Red Lion tonight, and we are very disappointed! We got our table and then waited 30 minutes for a staff member to even acknowledge us, in the end we got up and left and went down the road to The Wheel and Compass, where we had a totally different experience! The couple at the table next to us also gotUp and left and followed us to the Wheel and Compass. When you enter The Old Red Lion, the rules are on a board before you even go in, one of them stating only 6 to a party/table, there was a 21st birthday celebration in the back part with at least 25 people together!

I’m not one for writing bad reviews as I know mistakes happen and I understand how tough it is for the hospitality industry at the moment as I work in the industry myself. We have came to the Red Lion for a few years now, always enjoy. Came last night for an early Father’s Day meal. The first impression I got was not very welcoming, after standing at the bar for a couple of minutes the man behind the bar was not very welcoming and told us where our table was. The table we were given was in the tunnel, it was so dark I could hardly see the menu, other customers across from us had their torch out on their phone to look at menu. The older lady that took our drinks order was arrogant, when asked if I could order 2 more lemonades she was already walking away as I was asking for a glass of wine also. We were sat with 3 children and had to ask for the children’s menu. Drinks came she forgot my wine. We ordered some shared tapas for starters there was no separate plates when u have sticky ribs can be messy. No cutlery.. had to ask, also table next to us also had to ask. Again when asking for more drinks she was walking off again before I’d finished my order. Yep she missed drinks off again. Meal finally came after waiting 1&1/2 hours. Compliments to the chef the food was lovely. Apart from my steak was well done and I’d asked for medium. We asked for curly fries got normal fries, which the young lady swapped for us. We never got asked how our food was, the other table did after they had finished ‍♀️The older lady just seemed that she did not want to be there. Food was great but very badly managed and unorganised. Seems to me under new management, definitely won’t be coming back. What made me laugh though was a poster on the back of the ladies loo door advising to put your experience up on trip advisor… don’t worry about that.

It is with regret that I have to write this review, I have given King Henry’s Taverns two opportunities to feedback to me regarding our disastrous visit on 12/07/2021 but they have failed to do so.There were a catalogue of errors during our visit, namely • We were not advised to use Track and Trace• Orders for the mains were forgotten to be taken. We ordered our starters and were told these would be put through to the kitchen first and then our mains orders would be taken. We had to remind the waiting staff that we still hadn’t ordered our mains when the starters arrived • There were drinks missing from our order• We waited 90 minutes for the main courses• There were items missing from the mains• The steaks were inedible. They were sent back once as they were over cooked, tough and dry. The second steaks were exactly the same and so they were left.• The bill contained items we hadn’t ordered or receivedThe waitress was incredibly apologetic and embarrassed. By way of compensation, one meal was removed from the bill and we were offered complimentary desserts but this was too little too late and we were desperate to leaveI fully appreciate pubs and restaurants are operating in difficult times and whilst I can mostly forgive the issues with our visit, the inedible steaks are inexcusable. We’ve been visiting the The Old Red Lion for over 20 years and enjoyed many good meals there, so to now have a chef who cannot cook a steak is very very disappointing. The lack of response to my subsequent queries is also disappointing.We will not be visiting again.

This is our second visit in a fortnight and once again we can thoroughly recommend the food and impeccable service, from arrival onwards. This time Maisie and China deserve a special mention. They made sure that we had everything we needed and adhered to restrictions necessary at the present time.The atmosphere in the garden and Quadrant area is very relaxed, right for families and well behaved dogs.

Excellent meal, hot and well cooked, filling and tasty, served at a sensible pace, at reasonable prices and served in a wholly 'Covid cognisant' manner. The outside of the pub looking a 'chocolate box' picture with refreshed hanging baskets. What's not to like? Thank you.

My husband and I visited here on 3 June 2021.First of all the pub looked freshly painted and was so so clean and fresh. We ordered drinks and two meals. The food came out piping hot, freshly cooked and delicious. The toilets were also very clean.I think they have bought a few new things such as cushions, mats etc. Definately going back as very good.Though no lunchtime specials anymore.

We visited the Red Lion a couple of days ago & I have to say it is not the place it was unfortunately.It is very drab in decor although we noticed they had got rid of the old rackety chairs, the staff looked fed up & when I complained about the wait for food was greeted with “well that’s the way it is” by who I believe was some sort of manageress.The food was something else, warm at best but greatly overcooked. Presentation was non existent, it looked like it had just been slapped on the plate in a hurry.On top of all this the drinks arrived as we had nearly finished eating.I had cause to use the toilets & although they looked clean, they smelled disgusting.Social distancing, forget it the place was so crammed lucky if you got 6” of distancing, how do they get away with it?We’ve been going here for quite a few years now, sometimes 3 times a week but sadly never again, it’s lost its cosy, inviting & friendly appeal for us.Yesterday we found a lovely cosy pub nearby who serve really good food with a smile.

We visited the Old Red Lion at Welham on Friday 21st May, our first visit for ages due to lockdown. We have been going to this pub for years and have always been very happy with the food. But it seems to have gone downhill and the food was nowhere near how it used to be. My chops were black and burned and the chips had no colour and were soggy. Also, before going, I had checked the King Henry Taverns website and it said they had a Super Six Offer (Six items on the special menu for £6 each) but when we arrived at the pub we were told that the offer wasn't available so the 3 meals we had turned out to be very expensive. If this offer isn't available it should be removed from the website but when I checked again on the following day (22nd May) it was still there. It is very disappointing as we have always loved to go there but after the terrible food and the high cost due to there being no offers available we don't think we will be returning again.

Writing this review 1 hour and 20 minutes into our wait for food which is a shame as the service was always great, we have family here visiting, we are embarrassed and very hungry! 100% will never be back. Terrible service.

Booked a table for 1:45. Finally got food at 3:50 The kids were desperate by then. The fruit shoots they were given went out of date in April and the ketchup went out of date in February. I just wonder what else we were given that was passed it’s sell buy date. We weren’t offered any refund on those drinks either. The tables weren’t cleared and when the food finally arrived we had to wait for cutlery and condiments. The drinks we ordered arrived so late we’d finished already eating. It was ridiculously over booked and who ever was responsible for that shouldn’t be managing a pub. A thoroughly unpleasant experience. Shame on those in charge. You lost a lot of customers today

Arrived at 2, didn't get main meal until 4.15 and no cutlery. Quick enough to bring the bill! Won't be returning

What a disaster Rang to book a table and was abruptly told to book on line and the man hung up Reluctantly booked on line ✔️Arrived 10mins early and the guy I assumed was the manager at the entrance told us what table we had but never guided us to it Sat down waited and waited then was asked by the same guy for our drinks order at the same time food order Drinks arrived 5 mins later ✔️Food took 45mins and really was nothing special and certainly not the standard we usually receive from here Tried desperately to get the lack of staffs attention for more drinks Eventually gave up Waited again 30mins to order dessert Not a chance Decided not to bother when the waitress noticed our waving Payed bill and left !!!The attitude and manner of the guy / manager was disgraceful and made the whole event feel very uncomfortable THE WORST THING WAS :-Social distancing is a joke the people behind us kept bumping the back of our chairs with theirs because there isn’t any room or distance between us When they left the man behind us hit me with his coat as he was putting it on !!!!I’d avoid unless you don’t mind the risk of covid We’ve reluctantly decided to report to Guv.uk for none compliance

Had a lunch time meal but very slow service and waited along time between courses not the usual service we used to with quite a unprofessional and scruffy looking man who I take was manager ?? Food was good and good value !!

Pre booked online, arrived and seated. Socially distancing requirements all sorted.Ordered the two 10 ozs rump steak deal which includes a bottle of house wine for £18.99, both meals were ok.Waitress team all very friendly but service overall was pretty slow despite not being overly busy. Waited over 1/2 hour to be served to order our desserts and a further 15 minutes for it to arrive however it was worth the wait. Table cleaniness was also substandard and not been fully cleaned down before our use.Overall, an ok experience. Appreciate the current situation but having been here many times before over the years it's slowly looking at bit tired.

The service was slow even though the place was empty. The food was awful they couldn't even cook the steaks how you ordered them. The salmon dish my Mum ordered was awful and the presentation of the food was bad. My father had the mixed grill and was sick later that night, he did order the fillet steak but one of the staff came over and told us that he had opened it and it smelt off so wasn't happy to serve it...Not the quality food it used to serve certainly wont be going again.

We go to this pub about once a month for over 4 years and have never had a bad meal. I always have fillet steak, my son and husband vary what they have, but it has always first class. The staff are friendly and inviting. Would always recommend the pub to anyone.

Booked here for a birthday meal food was fantastic couldn’t fault the service, the staff couldn’t do enough to help out, would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.

Pre booked a table for 8:15, arrived and was shown a table so far so good and was told it’s table service only, ordered food and drinks via the app at 8:30, told wait time was 20 mins as confirmed by the app when ordered, by 9:00 drinks had only just arrived but still no food, upon making a complaint at 9:15 (so 45 mins after ordering) were told that no food was being cooked yet we had pre paid for this!!!! Food then arrived 5 mins later but was cold, meaning had been cooked but left in kitchen, couldn’t re-order anything newly cooked as had to off premises by 10 due to corona rules, all the “deputy manager” could do was offer a meal replacement next time we visit. TBH I personally wouldn’t want to spend anymore money there, staff are non existent, and don’t seem to care, food poorly prepared and just left in kitchen (food hygiene issue), tables not cleared and wiped down after people left (covid cleanliness issue) No mention off track and trace, people allowed to walk around with no masks unchallenged by staff, so again disappointed, as I had been recommended this place

The service was non existent. Waiter got our orders and never came by the table again, we wanted a second round of drinks but couldn't see a waiter to even get the attention. Asked for rare and med rare steaks. They both came back as done. Couldn't bring that to anyone's attention. Had to walk out and tell staff we wanted to pay. 2 hours of sitting and being ignored. If the only way to get served is thru an app it is pretty pathetic.

Had a family meal 26/9/2020 ordered the food we had 4 adult meals and 2 kids 2 of the adult meals were the mighty man mixed grill when it came out all looked good until we started to eat raw liver and pork loin and gammon no taste to the sausage we complained at it was took back to be sorted when it came back the gammon was half the size the liver was missing and so was the pork loin complained again liver then came out raw again eggs were like rubber there were loads of dead flies on window sills cobwebs all over there was what looked like food stains all over the walls when we spoke to the manager about it it was as if he couldn’t care we still had to pay full price for the meal we’ve been eating at this place for over 30 years and we will never return

Terrrible service food on menu not available let us order then brought half the meal when asked where rest was got told they didnt have it but have been charged full price .food cold when it came.my husbands burger looked as it had been sat for a while we could have got better at a burgervan.was seated at a table in what looked like an overflow restaurant table next to us could only be served by me having to get up everytime the waitress wanted to get through.felt like a yoyo throughout whole meal.Avoid unless you like wasting your money

AVIOD THE OLD RED LION, WELHAMSo anyone whos local knows how good this olace normally is.We visited the first week after lockdown and the food was adverage and the place wasnt very well kept, but compared today it was like the ritzMe and my dad ordered the mixed grill like normal. Food came out and straight away you could see that the gamon had been warmed up on a radiator and raw even to look at. The liver was also the same.Sent it back and they said more was being cooked for us, not a problem.When they arrived back the gammon was now cooked all be it 1/3 of the size, but the liver was missing. So again i mentioned to them it was missing. The apologised and said it wil be out shorty.Now im glad i didnt wait and ate mosr of my food beforehand as when ir did come back out it was rancid and off and still not very well cooked. If i had ate it at the start if the meal it would have put me off the rest, which if im honest was poor, both steaks were asked to be cooked the same medium rare, one of which was rare, the other more medium well, sausages despite being told they were Lincolnshire were more like asda frozen smartprice and the pork loin i took home to resole a pair of my boots.Id have much rather have ate our dinner guests( in the photos) which had clearly out stayed their welcome, which is supprising concidering they must have a few familys of spiders living in the building due to the amount of cobwebs not to mention old food and sauce stains up the walls But i would imagine they would. Have been more intrested in the bad food and cleanliness of the restaurant than the manager did who shrugged his shoulders and replyed with not a care in the world, which is brilliant with the coronavirous going around atm and how we are told to be extra clean and careful.Make up your own mind but after visiting the place for the last 20 or so years tonight was my last.And top it all off we still had to pay full wack for this amazing experience

As a family we have often frequented The Old Red Lion and each time have received good service - the food was quick, the staff were efficient and friendly and the food was always well cooked. As you can see by the use of past tense, our most recent visit to this restaurant was a huge disappointment to say the least. We pre-booked (as covid-19 restrictions advise) a table for 7:30pm, we did arrive earlier than our booking at 7pm so when we were asked to wait in the seating area - whilst waiting for our table - we were more than happy to oblige, within minutes we were seated. We were left to peruse the menu and waited for someone to take our drinks order (as you are not allowed to approach the bar - Covid-19 guidelines) unfortunately that is all we did...wait. It got to 7:30pm (which was our original booking time) and nobody had been over to the table to take our drinks order. I understand we were early - but they couldn't even take our drinks order? We weren't allowed to approach the bar, so it's not as if we could do it. We then had to watch as other diners, who arrived later than us (one couple didn't even have a booking!), get served before us. Oh we should add that the waitress at this point did say 'I'll be with you in a minute' - another ten minutes went by and she continued to serve another table who again arrived after us. It was now forty minutes after we had been seated and after receiving no service at all we thought it was time to leave and we did. I think the restaurant should recognize that if you choose to seat people before their booking - there is an expectation that drink orders should been taken (as it was advertised as 'table service only') and it is extremely in poor etiquette to serve other diners who had not booked before other diners who had the foresight to. Suffice to say we will not be returning and we hope other customers avoid this poor service. Can't comment on the food as we didn't have the opportunity to order anything. Hugely disappointing.

Having booked In the week For my family of 6 For lunch on the following Sunday for my birthday, we were all looking forward to it, as it had been a while since we had been for one of their famous steaks...As I Am disabled and need room around me, the very nice man who took my booking said he would set us up in the Green room, which would have been fine. Unfortunately When we arrived this room was in darkness and chairs were stacked upon tables. We stood waiting in the door way, trying to see how their COVID system worked when the Bar Man called across rather sternly, to.’ Stay There’ He then called across rather sharply..’ How many ‘ I was in mid sentence in reply, when he cut me off And asked the question again, my son replied to him, my mum was just in the middle of telling you,if you give her a chance.He then came to the other side of the bar to a computer and said..’I’ll sort you out ‘ in a very condensending tone.,.I replied ..’ well, your obviously not the gentleman that took our booking, because he was very nice, he ansawed..‘Rude..I don’t thinkI want you here’..my reply..’ not a problem’ and we walked out..I have never in all my life..been treated like this..

Love coming here with my family. We all enjoyed the food as always. Staff are very friendly and happy to help. Definitely recommend

20 years since we last visited. The Old Red Lion has still maintained its identity as a great pub serving great food. We did have one issue with one of our meals but it was rectified immediately with humour and humility. The Bistro rump steak was amazing and cooked perfectly. Can't wait to go back. Arrived at the Old Red Lion tonight and was greeted by very polite and attentive staff taking all of my track and trace details. The member of staff behind the bar was extremely helpful. The food arrived very quickly and I really could not fault it. I would strongly recommend this pub to everyone. The bar person was called Jake I believe he was lovely I did not get the name of the person who took my details. This is the only place I have been where they are taking Covid-19 seriously. I even saw them challenge a party who were not socially distancing when smoking outside. Full credit to the managers and staff.

The steak is as good as it has ever been and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive - definitely be back again, COVID 19 allowing !! Thank you to the Manager and his staff for making us so very welcome....

Went here for the eat out to help out scheme and can not fault them. They have the tables safely distanced and the staff were all really good. It was very busy and we were warned that we could be waiting about an hour for our food but in fact it came out a lot quicker. Was nice to be warned though so we had a choice whether to wait. The manager went over and above what we would expect and ensured that we were aware of all the deals they had on so we could take advantage of the best one for us. 10/10 for customer service. Highly recommend and we will be back even when the scheme ends as the value for money is great anyway.

Service was stretched with eat out to help out, drinks orders were slow etc and massive queue to order early on. But best steak ever, said by everyone in my party.If you're happy to wait 40ish minutes, get yourself a couple pints a time, you won't be disappointed. Steak melted in the mouth, absolutely brilliant and such a bargain if doing the eat out. Wonderful

Went for lunch with my friends and it was lovely the food was really nice and the customer service was amazing can not fault it, also we sat out in the garden as it was hot and it was very nice out there also very spacious

I had such a great evening here with friends. Emily our waitress was incredible, she was so attentive but more importantly she created a really relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, she was so friendly and made the whole experience really enjoyable. Give that girl a raise! All the other staff were brilliant, the best staff i have seen in any pub to be honest. The food was delicious and it came really quickly which was ideal for us.

Firstly would like the thank the members of staff who were working the evening of 12/08/2020. I thought my car had been stolen from round the corner of the pub. The manager had the CCTV out straight away to look for evidence and made sure the police were aware. My family planned a nice evening out for food while taking advantage of the ‘ eat out to help out ‘ scheme. The quality of the food was amazing! Due to the demand from the scheme some meals had sold out which was understandable. We were advised our food would be a 40 minute to an hour wait due to how busy the pub and garden was. Our freshly cooked food came out within half an hour! 5 star service from all, we will be back! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart :)

We are regulars at the pub a family of 6 of us go out the food is great and if we’ve ever not been satisfied it’s always been replaced and dealt with accordingly the staff are all friendly and welcoming making the experience great from start to finish the manager Ben is always helpful and accommodating We visited last night again for my daughter’s birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our experience Keep up the hard work all especially in these crazy times and thankyou for all you do to give us a night off from the cooking and the dishes

Myself and a couple of friends decided to have dinner out at The Old Red Lion. We all arrived and it was quite busy which we expected due to the eat out to help out scheme, but a lady found us a table straight away. We went to the bar to order our food and Ben served us, who is lovely with excellent customer service. He explained that there was a 40 minute wait for food, which again was absolutely fine as we could see they were busy. The food was lovely and an excellent price. Great atmosphere and great staff too, would highly recommend.

I’d like to begin this review by stating that i am a long standing customer of this eating establishment, In particular the excellent food and service i have always received, Until my most recent visit last week!Where should i begin, The mighty man mixed grill was heaped full of meat as is advertised - What wasn’t advertised was the putrid odour that emanated from the meat which had clearly seen better days. The taste unfortunately matched the stench. In order to disguise the suspect meat the lamb chops had been overcooked beyond recognition.My partner ordered a steak which she has always enjoyed, However this time despite requesting the steak to be cooked medium it was cremated - Again i believe this was a knowingful tact employed to use meat beyond its life span.In summary, Please do not let difficult circumstances allow your standards to fall so far below the level you have set over the years.

I arrived with my family and linda who is an assistant manager seated us and gave us a menu. We order some drinks with linda who was exceptionally nice. We ordered our food and that came within 20 minutes of ordering which was great, all the food was amazing. However, after our food we ordered some desserts and after half am hour waiting for them we were told that one of the desserts was not on at the moment so we got a refund for that dessert. However after 40 minutes of waiting for the desserts we decided to get a full refund for them but we were told we were not allowed a refund. The manager Ben was very rude about it and he was swearing at the customers and he was shouting in our faces after this we decided to walk out very angry without the desserts or a refund which is very annoying. Ben is very rude and will be going to head office about him and the rudeness he had towards his customers.

We visited the Old Red Lion for dinner with a group of friends. Staff were friendly and service was speedy but sadly the food was not great quality. Plenty of choice on the menu including vegetarian dishes but the food itself wasn't the best.

The experience was amazing, they allowed us in the marque which they had opened post Corona. we were also allowed to take the dogs with us. we ordered our food and drinks at the bar, reasonable price for the three of us. the lady came out with the drinks and offered some water for the dogs. when she came back out with the water, she also brought some cut up pieces of liver and steak for the dogs. when the food arrived it was hot and tasted amazing. very well cooked food.

Unfortunately i dont think the Red Lion is quite gear up yet for post corona dining. Upon entering a notice told us to wait to be greeted, which unfortunately left us standing and waiting for 5 mins in the narrowest pinch point in the whole pub and we had to move 3 times to let others in or out of the pub. When ordering we asked for a spaghetti bolognaise to be told they didnt do a spaghetti bolognaise on the main menu but could do us a larger childs portion. When i showed the lady taking the order that on the back of main menu was a spaghetti bolognaise it came as a surprise to her! She was dressed as a chef! We also wanted a carbonara but they were out of that. Drinks were brought to our table by a lady with no mask or gloves, the lemonade and coke were both flat the lemonade also came in a glass with someone elses lipstick still around the rim. Not what u want in these times..My mixed grill was missing the advertised liver. My wife's steak (she is a chef herself) was off and very funny tasting.Our lipstick lemonade was replaced, our funky off steak was replaced. But really such simple food and drinks order for 4 people how do they get so much so wrong. Was our first meal out after lockdown and was very disappointing. Wont be going back again soon.

Received a warm welcome, first trip out since lockdown easing. Personal details taken and table cleaned.Food and drinks ordered at the bar, contactless payment. Ordered chicken melt and steak & ale pie, both arrived as ordered, very enjoyable Bar was very quiet which isn't a bad thing, table spacing was good. No issues re social distancing.

Very enterprising at the Old Red Lion, as their suppliers are still doing deliveries they have started their own corner shop, Lots of options from meat, fish, groceries and the famous chocolate lumpy pudding - you have to buy a full one but who wouldn’t! Check out the website for 6 pages of everything you could want including alcohol. They are now doing local deliveries, or you can order and collect. Give it a try you won’t by disappointed.

Went for a birthday meal 5 in total! 1 hour wait time for food even though no one in there! Wrong food was served! We used to love dining out here but it has really gone done hill such a shame food and service really need sorting

Really good meal with the wife for my birthday. My 24oz steak was excellent and the whole meal was out of this world. The wife had a burger with extra bits and she loved it. Lovely little friendly pub. The service was fast and staff were very polite and helpful. Would highly recommend the olde red lion. Thanks for a great meal.

Excellent relaxed environment Ben the manager was very polite and staff pleasant Michaela who works there as well is pleasant and will make time to talk to you Ben will always make time to talk to you his partnership working is great with the team he always checks meals are ok . Having boycotted the red lion for a couple of weeks due to while I was eating my meal I witnessed the manager take a girl to one side let her go and then go round the back of the bar and laugh about it with the rest of the staff but anyway back to today drove by the wheel and compass totally rammed again and still I went back to the red lion arrived pretty busy and thought grab something lite omg sausage and mash and guess what they had ran out of sausage at 1700 so I chose something else which was totally amazing and totally well worth the money it’s just a shame I sit and enjoy my meal listening to the boss talking about schedules and how sorry he was to them about last nite and he was in proessional well come on beautiful pub amazing food just a shame the boss decides to have a staff meeting at the bar in front of all the customer be a bit more professional and I think you would have a winning team and the wheel and compass wouldn’t be so busy thanks a loyal customer but wearing thin

Tapas, obviously frozen party food type rather than authentic, but still generally tasty, although pizza looked like a Chicago town that had been cooked in water, was so soggy and wet.Glasses dirty, and one was chipped. Bar fonts dirty. Cutlery dirty. Dessert was nice but really unfriendly service, thrown down on table with dirty cutlery, no extra napkins. Shame as a few tweaks could have made it a much better experience, luckily I'd just brought a friend for a casual treat, if it had been more of an occasion I'd have embarrassed.

What used to be a jewel in the King Henry chain has gone the same way as the other pubs in the chain. Food is now worse than Wetherspoons (which is saying something!). Pint glass had crusted on lipstick on the rim which did not realise until half the glass had been drunk (I am a 45year old bloke that does not wear lipstick!). The half roast chicken was drier than the sand in the Sahara & literally inedible. No point in asking for replacements as know that they are not going to be any better! Had to stop eating steaks from the King Henry chain as they all have a metallic tang taste. The peas on two of the other meals were cold and look dehydrated and grey. The chain has now lost us as customers completely. Worth paying a few quid more and actually getting food that you can actually eat elsewhere.

From first meeting Ben to the waiters who served us the service was relaxed friendly and fun and the food was delicious. Highly recommend it

The food and service was fantastic the person who served us was called Ben he was exceptional he went over and above to make sure our visit was fantastic I can not recommend this place more highly.

Excellent service yet again - when they ran out of milk for Latte the landlord Ben even went out and bought milk for us !! What great service !

Visited a few years ago and called in for lunch. No probs getting a table but needed clearing first. Order the 3 course special, very reasonably priced at £12. Meals arrived as ordered including chicken melt and sirloin steak. Staff friendly. Recommend a visit.

Went on Saturday the place was very busy and the small team of staff they had on worked their socks off trying to keep up with the tables clearing and serving but hey were still amazingly friendly and welcoming as always.

This is the 2nd time been here in the last few weeks, and think it'll be a while till we go back. 1st visit was all good apart from the bar side of the pub smelling of smoke

Visited as OH was craving a steak. Could not find fault! I had the fillet medium rare which was juicy perfection OH had the titanic medium rare which he devoured and enjoyed every mouthful Kids loved their sausage and mash/chips and for £1 each we couldn’t of been happier! Big shout out to the staff who were fab and an extra thanks to Ben behind the bar who was chatty and welcoming. Can’t wait for our next visit

A few years back I loved this place. Tonight on my Birthday my Brother-in Law had a T bone and I had a Porterhouse. I ate half of my Porterhouse and the second half was “as tough as old boots”. My Brother-in-law took his back and accepted a fillet steak in exchange. The fillet steak was also full of gristle and sinews.

I had the mighty mans mixed grill,it came out after about 10-15 mins.

Had been told it’s gone down hill, completely disagree. Again another great visit to TRL, served by Keyanne and Linda tonight, top steak again highly recommend the bistro rump! Still get 2 for £20 and a bottle of wine. Just couldn’t find the deal on the menu, but when asked it was still on. Great job again guys, see u again soon.

Visited Saturday lunch time and took advantage of the £5 lunch time menu. Myself the good lady and mini me (5 year old) had 3 great plates of food and a drink each all for £18. For the money you couldn’t complain, we usually spend that at Costa just on drinks and cake. Service was quick and good.

Reheated chips.. medium steak(?) still walking round the field.. 4 people in bar not one cleaning tables.. suddenly man appears from the back and all jump into action.. still sitting with plates 40 minutes after finishing and pubs less than half full.. gone downhill drastically this pub

Visited Monday lunchtime - it wasn't busy. Just the two of us in our party; one had a 10 oz steak which was cooked perfectly and served with good 'proper' chips on a hot plate; the other had liver and bacon with peas, mashed potato and onion gravy - this latter meal for just £5.00. All hot, full of flavour and served quickly (not rapidly, not rushed, just sensibly quickly) on a hot plate. What's not to like? I couldn't make that plate of food at home for £5.00!

So lets start with the positives... the food tastes good.

Been here a few times as a family and the food never disappoints me. The meals are great sized and great prices.All the family have their favourites but the minted lamb chops are absolutely delicious. Nice clean places and facilities. Plenty of parking space too.

We often come here for meals as it great value for money so we decided to have our family Xmas get together here, we weren’t disappointed there was 20 of us and every meal was perfect and all served at the same time. Like to thank all the staff for making it a great time

Carpet not been hoovered it was so dirty around our table area.Cob webs hanging from all the lights in restaurant.Very under staffed.Poor service. Had to clear table ourselves . Chips and onion rings very over cooked and greasy. Fillet steak very tough. Would not return it used to be the place to go for a steak. Waste of money!!!!!! Toilets cobwebs everywhere and not clean!! Food came out in dribs n drabs .

My daughter booked a table for my husbands 60th birthday. 6 adults and 2 children Although quite busy, the service was very good Minimal wait for food, which was piping hot
