The Old Rectory in Tonbridge and Malling

Fairly standard food for a pub chain. Not exiting but no complaints and a fair price although totally ruined by the £100 parking fine. When photographing evidence for an appeal I was asked by a customer leaving what I was doing. When I explained, they ran back in to pay! It's not obvious. Another place running parking scans for profit: AVOID!

Ate here on Sunday with my family. We all had Sunday roast dinners a mixture of each meats. The roast potatoes were cooked to perfection and we all had dessert! Food was good, service excellent. We will be back! Thank you!

I visit here regularly with friends, family, as a couple as it’s local. I’ve had brunch, lunch & dinner. The staff are always friendly & helpful with the most recent being Emily & Melanie (who we are served by most regular) The food is good overall but the steak was quite ropey & tough. There are a couple of things I don’t order after a couple of not nice meals (I guess it depends on the chef that night) but the atmosphere/decor is nice. Had a problem with no lemonade/tap pints recently but they were waiting a delivery/someone to fix the pumps. It’s always busy in there. As I said, overall it’s a nice evening out which I think has more locals in. For the Vegan community, there are a few nice choices. This is also a go/to place for my brother & SIL who are both Vegan. I would recommend a visit. Plenty of free parking (need to input your licence plate on entry to the restaurant)

Really can't fault this place. Service is always top notch, food perfect. Amazing value. Two great meals, a beautifully presented side salad with a tasty house dressing that really 'makes it' a pint of beer and a large white wine, and still with change from £20 (for both of us, not each!) after a meal a few days ago at an over priced steak house, there was no comparison. This place wins hands down. Thank you and it's now our regular meeting point. Spreading the word to all our friends. Very well done The Old Rectory.

Saturday birthday lunch for Grandad. As there were 10 of us we booked a couple of days in advance and everything was as we asked for. We were well looked after by Melanie who was attentive without being over the top. Food was good and specific dietary requests were easily sorted with no fuss. Nothing was too much trouble. Shame about the closure of the play area but not the pubs fault. Sorry we didn’t have room for desserts but will be back for those another day.

Friendly service at the bar. Ordered food then took our drinks back to our table. And waited and waited. 55 mins later our food came. If anyone had come back to ask us how our meal was we would have said at the time. The beef and ale pie the meat was chewy and the mash tasted like powdered mash. The southern fried chicken burgers were so over cooked that they were dry like cardboard. The burger patties were black and tasted bitter where they were burnt, the lettuce inside was old and manky looking. The chips were overcooked and hollow inside. The brioche rolls were dry and the bbq sauce was non existent until we asked and then they gave us a bottle of it. The coke was flat. And the setting was cold and dusty and could do with a deep clean. The place has potential to be really nice in fact the other end of the place looked quite nice but the fish pond end smelt damp and needs new carpet etc. Staff were friendly enough but not very attentive. We haven't been in a long time and won't be returning anytime soon which is a shame as it was meant to be a treat with the family

Had burger and chips post jab (next door),Perfectly OK. Not thing amazing but it's a pub burger. Service was again fine and quick. However the guy paying keyboard and singing (badly) was so unbelievably loud my wife and I couldn't hear each other. Should add it was half 2 in the afternoon and a near empty pub. We left as soon as we could. Bit of a shame was going to meet some friends and spend the afternoon there.

Really disappointed in my visit to this pub today. Firstly our food took a while and when it came my eggs were completely overdone and hard. I didn’t bother saying anything due to the staff attitude. They didn’t bring our portion of chips so when we highlighted this he said we was lying and that he had already served them, we said no that’s not true and he brought them over, spilling them on the table and not even apologising then walking off. Definitely will not be eating here again.

This is our local and always have a great experience. The staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly. They will go out of their way to help wherever possible. Would thoroughly recommend!

Have been to this pub many times since it opened, both outdoors and indoors and haven't had a bad experience. Drinks are varied and quick to arrive, frequent live music is brilliant and the food is filling and reasonably priced.Taking into account that many companies are still trying to work out kinks and smoothly transition into our current situation, the Old Rectory has copped exceedingly well. Visited on Monday 21st of June and they'd already picked themselves up from Sundays hiccup and I thoroughly enjoyed myself along with my friends.I 100% recommend visiting if you're ever in the West Malling/Leybourne area.

Decided to book for Father’s Day. We arrived at 1:45 excited to treat dad to a nice Father’s Day meal. We waited 2 hours to receive our meal. Some of the dishes were cold. The new seafood (prawn and salmon dish) was partly uncooked and was unseasoned, the prawns were not king prawns and had not been pan fried at all. My daughters sliced chicken fillet was an unsliced wet boiled fillet. My sons bacon was tough like cardboard and totally cold. My daughters salad had a very weird aftertaste and she couldn’t eat it, she is 12 and it’s the very first time she has complained about a salad. All the extra sauces, the peppercorn, hollandaise sauces were cold and just a big lump full of smaller lumps. We were totally disappointed.Staff were running around and clearly taken on more bookings that they could cope with.We spoke to the waiter and all our plates were taken back (5 in total) without any discussion or apology (as of they were used to this happening) Had to wait another 45 minutes to get eventually get our food refund. Again , no apology, just cash refund (despite the fact we paid by card and would have preferred a card refund) placed at the table on the way through to serving other customers.In the end , with hungry dad and hungry kids and no food to speak off, we ended up eating in McDonald’s as everything locally was fully booked for Father’s Day. Is it without any doubt the worse experience of dinning and we shall not be returning whilst under the current management and kitchen team.

Visited today for the first time and service/food was terrible. Waited 1hr45 for food and when the food arrived it was awful. Food definitely microwaved. One meal was forgotten so had to wait while the rest of the family had their food. Not enough staff all rushed off their feet

Went on Father's Day 4 adults and one 3 year old. With all that is going on and being busy we had anticipated service might be a little slow but waiting 2 hours for a meal is totally unacceptable!! We arrived at 12.45 ordered drinks by 1.00pm these arrived pretty promptly. Our mains were ordered by 1.10pm meals finally arrived at 3.05! We had asked where they were at 2.00pm someone said they would find out she never returned! Husband went down to complain and a lady who I think might have been a Manager come up to the table apologised and offered free drinks and said meals were being plated not true, well unless 5 plates take 20 minutes! When the meals arrived they were just warm and the vegetables looked like they'd been boiling all day! Absolutely unacceptable especially with a 3 year old needing his lunch. Pretty well ruined Father's Day plans!

Been here today and all I can say I was very disappointed we actually left without having our mains after waiting 2 hours, The service was not much better, one guy who works there was just plain rude.

Came here for a birthday meal got greeted and taken to our table ordered our drinks and food after 15 minutes waited another 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive one of them had to be replaced as it was flat then it took about another 25 minutes for our food to arrive. one dish the peas were old and shrivelled and had to be replaced then another was Lukewarm. by the time the rest had eaten their meals the one that got sent back came back hot this time. Will not be returning for a good while.

Visited the Old Rectory for lunch today, was greeted by friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. Food was lovely, served by Maria who was very attentive and ensured that everything was alright for us all. Would recommend visiting here.

Had a few tasty meals here once the latest lockdown restrictions were lifted. We felt thoroughly British tucking into great food and drink togged out in our winter coats on allegedly spring afternoons in the open air. Under the parasols we were very comfortable and the friendly team looked after us all so well. The usual many choices on the menu all at very reasonable prices. Looking forward to coming inside very soon but well done to everyone at this fantastic place.

We have been here several times, last year social distancing and service was excellent inside the restaurant and found staff really friendly. We went yesterday and we’re not impressed with sitting outside. We went with two friends for lunch, it was very busy, but mainly customers having drinks. On entering the staff weren’t smiling so guessed rushed off their feet. Ordered drinks, ok, ordered food didn’t wait too long. Ordered our desserts to take home as it got chilly and then waited over half an hour and my husband had to go and check where they were. We will go to restaurant again as we do like it there and it’s local to us, but never to sit outside again

I've been to the Old Rectory countless times and have never had a bad experience.Food is exactly what you'd expect from a Greene King pub and makes you feel properly British!The most recent time I sat outside and it was clean and tidy and the staff were very accommodating and friendly.The wait times are wholely acceptable and the atmosphere is jovial.10/10 would recommend!

As a restaurant manager myself I realise how challenging and stressful these past few months have been adapting and overcoming new challenges etc. Today was mine and my partner's first time visiting and we were very impressed. Every staff member we interacted with was calm and professional. We were greeted with a smile at the door and shown to our table by a lovely member of your team.The food was genuinely perfect. I've been to various 'steak houses' and spent over double what I spent today and received much worse meals. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and couldn't fault them at all. Thanks to your team for a stress-free and very tasty lunch. We will return and hope to make you our 'go to' place in future.

Would recommend this pub to any body the landlord and staff run a really good pub they do so much for the area and to make it good pub well worth a visit

We’ve been back to the Old .Rectory quite a few times since it reopened in July. and have been impressed with how they’re coping with this strange new situation we all find ourselves in. The food and drink is still the same delicious wide selection at hard to beat prices and everyone’s as friendly and helpful as ever. Well spaced tables in the recently refurbed restaurant make it easy to recommend for any occasion. Thank you for all your hard work.

this weekend the old rectory had a drive in movie weekend. I personally went to 2 movies in 1 day but at completely different times, each time the staff were attentive and happy, they were so fast to help and the managers were always around to help too. Food on both trips was bought in take away boxes to the cars which was a lovely touch and always quick and hot.Myself and my family and friends had an amazing time and will definitely be returning

We have recently had a roast on Sunday 23rd August and Dinner whilst watching ET at the drive in movie. We ordered via the app for food and drinks on both occasions. 2roast beef dinners,and burger. Then pie, another burger and steak with veg and sweet potato fries. Apart from the veg on the roast that was over done. All other food was so lovely and well cooked. Service was impeccable and Glen was so welcoming this evening. We also felt very safe with the measures in place to protect us during Coronavirus. Thank you

Been to several local restaurants this month and this one far outshines the rest. Very well organised, Plenty of very efficient/friendly/caring staff, actively cleaning and wearing visors.. all 6 meals arrived together, piping hot with no issues. Best menu in town with great prices.. looking forward to booking up our third staff xmas meal !! This place is a thumbs up from me and family, 1 of which is a wheelchair user and we find this restaurant very accessible.

Awful food had lasagna and There was liquid in bottom like a oil and water , everything tasted like it has been heated up in the microwave

Visited with my daughter and grandchildren. We booked via the app. We were greeted with a smile and shown to our seats. Our three year old was given a huge ‘colouring in’ sheet and wax crayons. I ordered at the bar, all Covid protocols in place. Smiles all round. Adrian came and chatted to the grandchildren, really made us smile and young George was delighted that Adrian remembered his name. Our drinks arrived quickly, then our meals. Beautifully cooked, nicely presented, again a lovely friendly girl served us. After the meal Adrian came back and spoke to us all. An absolute pleasure to come here. Kudos to Glen and the team, this place has really been turned around. We will return.

There were 8 of us in total, we were seated quickly (we had booked online, which is just as well, as this was always a popular venue!) we ordered via the app and in moments our drinks were with us, the staff were all wearing face shields lots of them about too, our food arrived all delivered on trays, only we touched plates and glasses of drinks they just delivered and took trays away. While I was there other staff were cleaning any areas that were regular touch/contact points. The food was was fab, we had a mix fish n chips, smothered chicken, steak and chicken and mushroom pie, plus two children’s meals, can’t fault it staff were attentive checking we were happy with food and asking if there was anything we needed. Well done guys it’s apparent that lots of effort has been put in, it shines through, we will be back. Thanks for a lovely evening.

I was worried about going back into indoor spaces like pubs after lockdown, but didn't need to be at the Rectory. The staff were professional, all of the safety procedures were adhered to and I felt safe! We have visited the Rectory many times in the past 2 years and have always loved it, so it is great to be able to go back now. I would highly recommend!

I’ve visited this place many, many times it is fabulous! The staff cannot do more for you, the management are amazing have put on so many events for local community. Never had a problem with the food, everyone is always happy to help! Would highly recommend!Even with new Covid guidelines it feels extremely safe and well looked after.

I have eaten at the The Old Rectory 3 times in the last 2 weeks and we’re going back again tomorrow, the food was excellent and the service and staff were absolutely faultless, keep it up guys you’re doing a fantastic job.

Excellent food and brilliant, friendly staff. They also run a drive in cinema, quizzes and other activities. Just what we need at the moment.

We are new to the area and decided to make a visit to our new local. First thing I noticed is how welcoming and attentive the staff were throughout our visit. The pub was clean and had all the covid precautions in place staff were very on the ball. We ordered and paid for food via the Greene King app which was straightforward. The food was lovely pub food and reasonably priced. All in all we enjoyed our first visit and will be back very soon.

Covid-19 has turned everyone’s world upside down but I’m so impressed by how the staff at the Old Rectory have adapted to the ‘new normality’ extremely well! They went the extra mile to Keep me and my family safe during the whole of our visit. They are friendly and welcoming and enhances the calming atmosphere of the pub that is so inviting! Definitely be returning soon

I ordered the cheese and bacon burger after having arrived today and as I cut my burger in half I found a hair hanging out, upon pulling it out, a worker was standing next to me who witnessed the hair being pulled out.I have been offered a new burger but am still not happy that this has happened given the current circumstances.

We went for our 1st family meal out since lockdown and thought we would take full advantage of the 50% off goverment deal. We waited over and hour for our starter to arrive. Our main meals all arrived at differnt times and even tho I had asked the server for cutlery two times he still decided to wait till he had brought all our meals out to then bring cutlery out and the kids meals had gone cold. My meal was the last to come out and I was as disappointed with my meal as the rest of my family were with theres. I ordered chicken fajitas they were described as spiced chicken strips? What I actually got was a plain chicken breast cut into strips not one bit of flavouring on it and was chewy and over cooked. Whilst I understand d you are offer 50% off at the moment it shouldn't affect the quality of the food. also soggy onion ring with the steaks. We used to eat here regularly but doubt we will go back again now food got right down hill.

Non edible food,Food has majorly gone down hill! When complained the bare minimum was done.do not go there if you actually want to eat your meal.

I didn't visit this pub under the best circumstances as i was attending a wake. However the pub had a good selection of beers and the upstairs area had an exceptional spread, particularly impressive was the game pie. I am not local but if i was i would definitely have returned.

Although this venue is in Leybourne, I live in the West Midlands and organised this surprise family meal from a distance. The team were very accommodating and were able to help via telephone and email. All ran smoothly and all 12 meals were served together. A great time at a very reasonable price!

Been going to this pub for 12 years now and I have to say Glenn and allthe staff are doing a great job.. it's nice to pop in now and then for a quick drink and be able to watch the football. my son tyler loves going in yoo the pub because the staff make him welcome are the time..

Used to come here a couple fo years ago regularly and ended up leaving very disappointed in the end but tried my luck this year and wow what an improvement th staff are really friendly and will to accommodate in anyway they can, the food is amazing so much more to offer now and the price is amazing they saying you get what you pay for is not the case here portions are a decent size very filling and didnt have to wait for ever even when they have been busy. Would definitely recommend.

We have enjoyed a great Sunday roast in here on many occassions and so when it was suggested that we had Christmas lunch there we assumed it would be as good IF not better. It was a rather lack lustre meal to say the least. The mushroom soup was served with a skin on it and although it tasted ok that had already put us off.The adults were dished up virtually the same as the kiddie portion, but you feel that you can't complain because it's "the day". The vegetables were either over-cooked ( soggy red cabbage and un coloured roast potatoes) or undercooked ( carrots). It was a shame as we'd looked forward to it as an extended family meal

The food was good and the service was quick and friendly- all the food was hot - we had crackers already on the table- good value for money and we could use the friends and family discount- overall a lovely lunchtime meal

Had lunch with friends here and not overly impressed. We all had fish guns sandwiches with chips. The chips were hot, but the fish goujons weren't. Had to wait quite a while for these to come as they were very busy. The staff were friendly, but clearly at this time of year more are needed. Would recommend booking a table as we hadn't and managed to get the last one, unless you want to sit on the very high stools in the bar area, which would be a physical impossibility for me.

I visited the Winter Wonderland event at The Rectory last weekend. What a fabulous community event, there were fairground rides, hot food, outside bar, stalls, live music etc. it was absolutely brilliant. We all had a fantastic time and hats off to the management and their team for pulling this off. This pub in my opinion has excelled under the new management and i look forward to many more events held there in the future. Our village has never been lucky enough to have such an event on our doorstep. 100% a winner. Well done

The Old Rectory Management and staff excelled themselves! Putting on this event for the community was something that hasn’t been done in the four years I’ve lived in Leybourne. They really worked to hard and the sense of fun and community was amazing! Well done to Glenn and his team, can’t wait for the next one!

Had a meal for four here and the food all came out together and was very hot and very tasty will be visiting again.Staff were attentive as well.

Four of us dined here on Saturday and we chose meals from the 2 for £10.99 menu. 2 had the beef and ale pie, 1 the hunter's chicken and 1 the gammon steak with eggs. All the food was tasty and well cooked. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy but we all enjoyed our meals. If i had read the previous reviews I may have thought twice about going but it was booked by someone else; we were all satisfied with our experience there.

Lunchtime 2 for £10.99 menu. My mum said ‘ The best Hunter’s Chicken I‘ve ever had!” Service was great. And Sophie- our waitress- was lovely.

Went here on Sunday around 5pm, plenty of tables available. Now I know why.

We went in mid week and was fairly busy, there was a selection of meals at 2 for £10.99. The food was great value for money £5.50 for a decent size meal, the service was great. On a point the skirt of the waitress could be a fair bit longer not great if you are sitting at the bottom of the stairs. We will return.

We have been coming here for many years, we went there on a Tuesday evening after not visiting for 6months to have experienced how awful and down hill it has gone. There was a handful of loud drinkers and 3-4 of only food served tables. Firstly we got a pint and coke which were both flat, went and said they was flat so got fresh ones- still remained flat and tasted awful!!! Secondly the food!!!!!! My two young children had sausage mash and corn of cob, the mash came out hard and the corn on the cob was cold and grey in colour - looked like it had been sitting for hours!! My son went to try it and it was sour!!!!!!!! Then our meals came out the chicken was pink and rubbery, the batter was rock hard so you couldn't chew it and gravy was cold, the peppers looked like slugs on a plate, garlic bread was black and burnt. Was absoutely disgusting! Told the waitress, we didn't even have a sorry just it would be passed on to the manager. WILL NOT BE RETURNING!!!!

Really good selection of gins! But they definitely couldn't cope with a big group of people (12). One meal was sent back because the chicken was basically raw, and even after coming back out the food literally made our friend throw up before she had left the restaurant. The company was the best part and we bought that with us!

Lovely venue, sympathetically decorated. The staff were warm, welcoming, efficient and attentive. The food looked fresh and appetising and flavours were good. Lovely to sit next to the indoor fish pool. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Had a great evening, food was prepared well and in a timely manor, bar staff were friendly and our waitress Sophie, looked after us all evening ensuring we had everything we needed.

This used to be one of our favourite places to eat, huge disappointment, mine was fine but its pretty hard to mess up a salad, chips were over cooked hardly any potato inside, burgers charcoaled on one side, chicken fillets over cooked and hard, halloumi fries over cooked. Even carrots on side order, dry and looked pretty old. Sadly will not be going back

Food arrived lukewarm to the table the roast reminded me of a frozen dinner from the super market when the starter arrived after the mains it was colder than when the chef took it out of the freezer

All been done up before it’s was a bit old and dark but now it’s all nice and has been sorted out a lot the staff are more friendly and the food has gone up a bit in price but it’s does tastes better all good

The food was some of the worst i have tasted in a long time. The chicken was barely cooked the burger had grease oozing out of it and the chips were rock hard! The beer was also slightly flat

A return visit to the Old Rectory proved a great idea. We went on a quiet Tuesday mid afternoon for a bite to eat. Spoilt for choice from an extensive menu we chose the steak and ale pie for me, chicken and mushroom pie for my husband, both of which were delicious and generous sizes. As usual the team looked after us very well and the value for money for both food and drink would be hard to beat. With the recent refurb making for cosy surroundings we’ll be calling in more often.

Service top class, food excellent hot and plenty to eat , staff very polite and friendly and helpful take extra time to make sure you have a good meal

Further to my previous poor reviews at last some management that are keen , efficient , effective and very importantly customer friendly

Made a visit for a birthday meal with my partner and his mum at 18.00 yesterday.Was great that she could have a senior citizens meal, however she had scampi and a small grilled tomato and a little parsley to dressed the plate to make it more inviting would have been good,it looked very bland for a birthday meal.The food was good Hunters Chicken and Pork belly very nicely presented and the service was quite quick.

We had some pub grub, a couple of beers and played darts. A pleasant evening. Big car park, dog friendly and cheap pub grub for when you can't be arsed to cook.

Called on the off chance for Sunday lunch plenty of tables free meal was well cooked and plenty of choice gammon steak was well cooked the wife had roast dinner I will go again in the distant future as I live quite a long away the price was not over expensive

Perfectly acceptable for a family lunch, but not the type of place for a more 'celebratory' type of meal. Food was basic but good, staff were ok, waiting time left a bit to be desired. We were seated near the entrance as this was where we were placed, but we found it rather chilly. We did put up with it as there was no where else to sit. Overall it was fine and acceptable, but I wouldn't particularly rush back.

Lovely lunch, just enough before a long drive. Chose from the menu then order and pay at the bar. The bbq chicken sandwich was really nice with salad garnish. We didn't have dessert but that was probably good as well. Will definitely go again
