One of the best burgers I've tried in the city

Very disappointing Sunday Roast. Gravy was watery and had no flavour, very stingy with the roast meats and they were cut in thin slices. I had to ask for salt to season everything. Service was ok, had to ask twice for water and it was difficult getting the servers attention to ask for salt. Go elsewhere for your roast.

Was a regular here until my friends were discriminated against when trying to get entry

The atmosphere was really nice. The service was also good. However, the Sunday roast had a lot more meat than I expected, so it was difficult to cut into pieces. But the Yorkshire pudding soaked in broth was delicious. This is also a risk that must be taken into account since it is a reasonable price.

Apparently supposed to be the best Roast in North London now I know why it's a comedy pub as they are joking meat was unedible veg raw roast potatoes like concrete blocks. I will send pic please save your money eat at a Toby carvery or elsewhere this place is a complete rip off. The food is so bad that I may have to get hygiene services involved there doesn't seem to be any proper taste test of food. Just look at the lamb fat with meat trim and photo looks yellow so you cannot see the food your eating

Great atmosphere -- both upstairs and down. Delicious roast -- I had the lamb -- and burgers. Good spicy bloody Mary's as well, which are not easy to come by in London.

Great pub! We visited late on a Thurs and the pub was buzzing with a nice vibe...packed, but not too busy, and excellent bar staff kept the bar wait to a minimum!

I absolutely LOVE this place. Came for karaoke which was so easy to use and a great selection of songs to choose from! I wanted to give a shoutout to the incredible service from the staff. In particular Craig, Rory and Gabi. Super friendly and Gabi was incredible helpful when she helped me fix my shoe which saved my night 😄 will defo be coming back.

Booked a night out with our boxing club here at The Old Queens Head last Friday. What a cracking night. We had the Karaoke room booked for 2 hours and what a fabulous time we had. The staff were brilliant, they kept the drinks flowing and cold water also, cool our singing pipes. Was so much fun. We then finishing the night dancing to the djs set. All round, great evening. We’ll be back!

The staff here were all very nice, accommodating, and friendly, especially as we’d shown up last minute for Sunday roast (a Sunday flexibility that’s rare in London). The roast itself was lovely and made all the better by the nice environment and first-class service!

Burgers, bath tubs of beer, And banging karaoke ! All in all the perfect Friday night. Staff are amazing extremely helpful and very well organised . Karaoke equipment is superb. And when you’re done singing your heart out, there’s always the upstairs dancefloor !! 5/5

I went here for a drink. It was absolutely overcrowded last night, it was impossible to breathe in the dancefloor upstairs.

Had a fabulous time in the karaoke room, great space and equipment - zero glitches! Also really enjoyed the DJ set on the second floor after our session ended. Vibe check 💯 🔥 Great food, super attentive and friendly staff :)

What a fun night we had. First karaoke in a cool red-pink booth (couldn’t have enough after 2 hours) then the dance floor at the bar with great tunes

Had the Sunday roast. Apart from how absolutely delicious and delectable a delight it was, the excellent and lovely people at the pub made it all the more charming.

Food was very bland and lukewarm. Yorkshire pudding wasn’t edible as it was hard and dry. Wanted a apple crumble for dessert but they didn’t have it on that day…

It's definitely a very old bar/club, and some say that the place is haunted as well. You'd understand why the moment you enter the place; especially with all the old paintings and sculptures hanging on the walls all around. There's a small club upstairs. Friday nights are r&b, hip hop nights. Try to reserve a table especially if you're a big group. If not, it's a space that becomes alive only later into the night. We got ourselves a G&T and left shortly after.

No real ale and very unhealthy food options, a bit limited. Very friendly staff though!

Tbh the roast was glorious!! Its was perfect and the service is top notch as well. I am urged to leave a comment though because after such a golden plate of Sunday roast, I ordered a sticky toffee pudding - quite excited to end the meal in a rich and sweet note - the menu said it should come with a scoop of ice cream but I kid you not and I’m not sure if it’s a mistake but the scoop it came with was pure BUTTER. Is that normal? I wasn’t sure. But it wasn’t pretty having a spoonful of that butter (margarine even?!) in my mouth. Had my best friend verify if indeed it was butter - it was. We weren’t sure if it was supposed to be that way (maybe some modern rendition of sticky toffee pudding?!) or it was a mistake. Whatever it was, didn’t touch it anymore and left. Horrified hence 3/5.

Went there yesterday to meet friends for drinks & food and it's such a nice cosy pub to hang out in on a Sunday. Didn't have a roast but they looked amazing from what I saw of the tables around me - definitely an excuse to go back!

I love love love The Old Queens Head! I had an amazing Sunday roast there, i’ve also attended a Saturday night there where the upstairs room is transformed into a club/ dance night. Some nights are grime and rap etc. The pub itself is just really beautiful. The decor and atmosphere is incredible, its such a beautiful building. 10/10 pub!

Fab London pub full of charm with stunning decor and just very good vibes all round. Ordered burgers on a Saturday afternoon which they do in collaboration with Lucky Chip Burgers - brilliant stuff. Not the thin smash burgers that all the trend now, these are proper delicious wagyu beef patties. Quite a few options to choose from inc the best friend chicken burger the missus has ever tasted and there was a vegan option too. All in all, a superb London pub that offers good vibes, drinks and food that doesn’t try too hard. Love it.

Excellent evening at Old Queens. Had the playroom and the karaoke room upstairs for a work party and the team looked after us like we were their own. Atmosphere downstairs was also amazing, would deffo come back for a midweek drink. Best spot in North.

The Old Queen's Head pub is a great spot with a relaxed vibe and great for people-watching. You get a real mix of people here, from locals to out-of-towners, all enjoying the laid-back atmosphere. The staff are cool and make great drinks. I know I will keep coming back here, its such a great pub.

Visited this stunning venue for a family gathering upstairs for Sunday lunch. We were greeted and looked after by such lovely staff. The food was awesome. This place is renowned for its Roasts. The ambience with the music and the decor was so relaxing and spot on for a Sunday. Will definitely be returning soon.

Probably the best Roast Chicken in London?! The Old Queens Head is a local pub in the Angel station, Essex Road area of North London Pros: If it's a Sunday, order the Sunday Roast Chicken! You won't be disappointed. The chicken is cooked in a 12 hour sous vide method is incredibly moist, succulent and juicy! Tasty, plentiful and great value for money! Service is wonderful too! Matthew's team were so friendly and accommodating. They very kindly accommodated my pregnant wife and cooked her lamb a bit more well done. Roast potatoes are very nice. Very soft! Lovely decor too! Very picturesque and photogenic inside! Great WiFi too! Cons: None really. A little bit far from Angel tube station. But definitely worth it for the tasty Sunday roast chicken. In short, Old Queens Head is an unassuming local pub in north London. But surprisingly serves possibly the best, juiciest, most succulent and most tender Sunday roast Chicken in London! And at incredible value at £17.9 on a Sunday! In short, well done to Matthew and his team at the Old Queens Head! Just go and and try the roast chicken! You won't regret it. Really gutted that I had a bad experience as I was looking forward to this so much. Popped in to have dinner before going to the theatre by myself. Atmosphere in the pub is lovely, I really like the decor. I went up to the bar to order and the man who served me was quite snappy and blunt which already made me feel dejected. I ordered a Gus Fring burger without buffalo sauce, and chips. I also ordered a pint of coke. Coke was great, fries were delicious but unfortunately the burger was just awful. I left 90% of it due to a deep worry of food poisoning. The chicken was wet, slightly off coloured. I even texted my partner who was away and asked for an opinion, and we both agreed that it would be better for me to leave the burger. Since this meal last night, I have felt quite unwell and I have to believe this is due to the burger. The other stickler was that a burger, chips and drink cost me £20.50 at this establishment. £20 to have barely any dinner because the burger was not cooked properly? I find that really quite awful and disappointing as I enjoyed the fries and loved the vibe. It's a real shame that this happened because I was really hoping for a nice dinner, and unfortunately all I had was a little basket of chips and less in my bank account.

I love visiting the Old Queen's Head, they serve the best roast dinner in London at any time of the day. The atmosphere is always great, with a demure yet inviting vibe, and the staff are consistently friendly. I always go for the veggie mushroom Wellington because it's amazing, while my partner opts for the lamb roast—we both leave with empty plates. We never skip the cauliflower cheese, and we always make room for the sticky toffee pudding.

Just been to the Old Queens head. I haven’t been here in a year and the last time I was I loved the food, specifically the roast. To go back today and see how far it’s fallen from grace was sad to see. Powdery potatoes, unseasoned chicken, limp veg and the most burnt Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever had. Turns into dust in your mouth. To finish off a sticky toffee pudding that was lukewarm and had cream on it. Why I do not know. All for an eye watering £30. When pulled up on the food we were told if we want better food we should come earlier in the day. For the love of god, do not go. You deserve better than this. For your money you can get better

Me and my mates came for an evening roast here. I genuinely never make google reviews but I had the worst roast/meal out of my life here. I was here a year ago and the roast was amazing, today it tasted cheap like a school meal. Think cold uncrispy potatoes, lump of dry squeaky chicken and bisto gravy, don’t get me started on the cremated Yorkshire that was broke into powdery dry pieces. We were taking out our friend to show her what a roast was, and it was a sad day to be British. I was embarrassed. We actually had to sum up courage to say something to the waiter, who told us that the roasts aren’t good in the evenings. Then why serve them to paying customers? There are a lot of places to get amazing roasts from pubs that care about their customer’s experience - this is not one of them guys.

Great place, karaoke was amazing, could be better if on tap beers would be brought up to karaoke room and if they would allow to finish last song.

Such an excellent pub! Love the busts and tile decor. We visited when there was a popup burger menu by Lucky Chip and the burgers were second to none. Pints were decently priced for central London. The server was very nice despite the queue and the service was fast. Would definitely visit again !

Nice pub and decor. My roast dinner was cold and the yorkshire was burnt. Tge 2 people I was with said theirs was cold/luke warm. I hope the chef takes this on board. If it was hot and yorkshire not burnt to a crisp it would have been nice. I feel I wasted my money.

Love the ambience! The burger and mushroom Wellington were both vegan and amazing. Be careful that some websites claim they have a vegan Yorkshire pudding, but they do not. The server caught that quickly, though. The room was beautiful and the location easy to find.

First time back in 10 years and still the best Roast in North London! Great service, pub beautiful as ever and air con an absolute win on a day as hot as this. Had a cheeky side of pigs in blankets so no room for desert. Next time!

Very well priced Sunday Lunch at £17 with tasty gravy. They gave our daughter 2 glasses of fizz for free as it was her birthday! My companions LOVED their burgers and we all loved the cocktails especially the spicy mojito. The decor is fun Victorian reclamation, probably styled be a film set decorator. Sunday lunch had a jolly atmosphere for with a mix of young and old. Good bar.

As avid roast goers, constantly on the hunt for a delicious tasty roast….the roast is bland and tasteless. Apparently it’s suppose to be one of the best places but the food was tasteless and the gravy was bland. Please avoid…we wish we did!

We went here to have a Sunday roast as it’s listed as one of the best in London. Such a disappointment. The food was bland and cold. The chicken was tough and dry and the Yorkshire pudding had seen better days. We ordered desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was anything but a sticky toffee pudding. Just a plain sponge attempting to be something else. The decor is nice. Food is poor.

If you find yourself in the Islington area this pub is an absolute must visit! It has stunning interior and a good selection of drinks too. The fries with the garlic aioli are fab too! For sure top 5 pubs in London! Get yourself down there for a good and buzy vibe.

Vegans, you can do better than here. Find some place else. The menu said the vegan mushroom Wellington comes with a Yorkshire pudding, but it didn't. The waiter never informed us about this and charged us the same price for less food anyway. He didn't seem to care in the slightest. Beyond that, the mushroom Wellington was well below average and I wouldn't want to eat it again. Disappointing. Cool atmosphere, it's a shame it doesn't have food to match.

Awesome Sunday roast is a spectacular historic atmosphere

Now, the atmosphere is amazing! But the food would be nice if the establishment wasn’t over run by rodents! I didn’t get a chance to order food because tbf when you walk in and in the corner of your eye you see the FATTEST rat. Puts you right off.

This place never disappoints, been here for many a night outs and highly recommend. From the security to the friendly bar staff great cocktails to the atmosphere. Great if you fancy a drink with a bit of music downstairs or a boogie upstairs on a Friday or Saturday night. Dont get me started on the Sunday roast the mushroom wellington 10/10 my favourite pub roast in London!

My favourite place for a Sunday roast and a quality cocktail in Islington. The value for money is insane, food is delicious the guys at Lucky Chip really know what they are doing, Sunday roasts and the burgers always hit the spot. Cocktail menu is not over complicated , many tasty options with some surprising twists. The staff are always friendly and welcoming here, love that you can have table service upstairs on a Sunday and pub service downstairs. The pub is absolutely stunning with a decor second to none , always plenty of influencers getting their content here. Always lively in here with the winter season being almost impossible to get a Sunday roast booking. They always have space for walkins which saved my Sunday a few times.
