The Old Post Restaurant in Chesterfield

Have eaten here several times in the past and the experience had been very good. On this latest visit we were both very disappointed with the quality of the food and the rushed speed of service which was decidedly faster than usual. One of the starters was 1 1/2 slices of beetroot wrapped in soggy pastry. Both main courses were overcooked. Overall, certainly not fine dining. Won't be returning.

I visited with my wife and we found that the food and service were excellent. The portions weren’t massive but the food couldn’t have been better. We both had the beef option for our main course and it was beautiful.

Tucked into a corner opposite the donut car park, this restaurant has plenty to boast about. Upon entering we were greeted by smiling front of house staff, perfectly ambient lighting and warmth. The decor matches the history behind the building, with very subtle contemporary tea lights and crockery. Our front of house staff were very attentive, offering time to look over the expansive wine list and selection of bottled premium lagers and ciders. The rosé wine was served in an ornate ice bucket at the top of the table and we were provided a bottle of water for the table without even asking. Whilst the menu is much smaller than most restaurants in the town centre, the vastness of choice and quality of pairings within each meal are top notch. We considered whether we would be able to finish three courses, two of us opted for starter and main with the remainder opting for main and dessert. The food was served promptly at perfect temperature, and the presentation was brilliant. We were given some time to digest before looking over the dessert menu. I recalled they had a small selection of single malt whiskeys ranging from Laphroaig to Glenfiddich, and ordered the former to finish off my meal whilst the rest of our party enjoyed their desserts. I am so happy to have finally tried this restaurant and I have already recommended to several friends. Thank you to the team working this evening and the management running this business. I cannot wait to return.

On a wet night in Chesterfield we went for supper at The Old Post restaurant. What a throughly enjoyable experience. From the people at the next table to the wonderful staff and the food well it was just superb. Scallops for both of us then calves liver for him and sea trout for me. Treacle tart and the cheese board wine beer and port. Presentation was first class the taste amazing.

Went toThe Old Post for my second visit this year. We had a seven course Tasting menu which was a special offer they had on for three nights. The food was excellent from start to finish, portions were just the right size but was full by the end of the meal. Service was excellent the young ladies explained each course as they came out with out plates. This has got to be the best place to eat in Chesterfield. Will definitely be visiting again.

Excellent meal. Fine dining at its best. Superb service. Very reasonable prices. Couldn't fault our food at all. My loin of lamb was to die for as was my wife's beef. A must visit restaurant.

Stopped off in Chesterfield overnight and visited The Old Post based on previous reviews,so glad we went,it was a little quiet for a Thursday evening but the food was lovely,scallops and ham hock terrine to start and fillet of beef for main which melted in the mouth.The food was beautifully presented and filling,we didn’t have room for a dessert,which looked lovely.Nice friendly waitress too.

Decided to treat my wife and daughter to dinner here on a Saturday evening. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and presented with menus. A few people on trip advisor have mentioned that the decor is a little dated, we personally loved the quaint dining room and felt we were very comfortable in these surroundings. Lovely warm bread was served followed by our starters. Excellent scallops for me, smoked cod for my wife and pate for my daughter. We all agreed the starters were excellent, particularly the scallops. Mains of Lamb, beef and pork were superb and displayed various cooking techniques and a clearly showed a very competent chef was working the kitchen. Excellent deserts rounded off a superb meal. I have to say the service was faultless and timings perfect. Really enjoyed this experience. Im keeping an eye on the online menus as I dont think the menus changes often and wouldnt want to have the same menu presented.

We have wanted to try The Old Post for a while as its local and has a good reputation. We did and were suitably impressed. Friendly attentative but not intrusive staff. Great food. We will definitely go again

I don’t know how to express my complete satisfaction with this incredible venue, the Chef is a master, the feel of the restaurant is so nice, the front of staff is beyond compare. Please, please, book here, you will be amazed.

After being told about this resturant by a fellow foodie we decided to take a visit. The atmosphere is quaint and it has a very homely feeling. We we greeted friendly by the waitress I think her name was Chantelle and she asked if she could take our coats. After being seated we had a look at the rather tasty wine list and decided on a bottle of white and red both of which were very flavoursome and the price reflected the quality. We were also offered some chilled table water which was replaced everytime we emptied it. Before we ordered our meal, some (what looked like) freshly warm homemade bread and butter came out, which always starts a meal off perfect, in my opinion. We were spoilt for choice as we looked at the well made and thought out menu! I went for the Scallops with pea puree, chorizo, baby gem lettuce, and what I think was red wine vinegar pickled onion. These flavours went together like a symphony. The pea puree was smooth and had a slight sweetness that went together with the sweet PERFECTLY cooked scallops while the pan-fried chorizo added the earthy but fatty flavour needed. This only to have the pickled onion cut through the oiliness of the chorizo. After the delicious starters my mouth was watering for more. I went for the lamb rump (which didn't have the texture or fattyness of a rump as it tasted more like the fillet to me) this was accompanied by a sweet but not overly sweet parsnip puree, beautifully cooked Carrots that had a slight bite to them, wonderfully cooked dauphinous potatoes with a slight garlic taste through the many layers. This was all complemented with a delicious, clear, glossy lamb jus. Its safe to say there wasn't a morsel left on the plate. I could comment on what my Partner and friend had however I've left this out for ease of reading but to sum it up in a nutshell, my friends beef was cooked to a perfect medium rare and my partners pork belly just fell apart. It was incredible. Luckily we still had room for dessert and we chose a cheeseboard and the Chef made us a dessert platter for 3 and the taste of the homemade lemon posset is a memory I shall treasure. All in all this Chef is an incredible talent, the place is wonderful and the waiting on staff are credits to this place. The food is exceptional and its safe to say we shall be frequenting this wonderful hidden gem as much as we can. How this place hasn't got a rosette is beyond me because it certainly has everything needed to acclaim one. We've booked in for the 7 course taster menu on the 4th of May and we can't wait. Our first visit to the Old Post but won’t be our last. Interesting, tasty food with beautiful presentation. The host, Delia, had just the right balance of friendliness balanced with professionalism. Lovely atmosphere. We felt welcome and relaxed straight away. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a lovely two-course meal here, just before the Christmas break. Food quality was very high, well served, nice atmosphere at and it seemed good value. We would definitely come back.

Visited for an anniversary meal and we were blown away. The food and service was excellent. Our starters and mains were perfectly cooked and presented, however, to let you into a secret, the treacle and orange tart will make you reassess your dessert expectations!

One of the best meals we have had in lockdown. We like to have a drink before dinner so we paid by bank transfer and arranged for Central taxis to collect it and bring it to us, which went without a hitch, a great idea....

Ordered the takeaway menu for Valentines Day. Exceptional food and value. Several courses through from canapés to chocolate truffles. All ready exactly on time. Highly recommended and looking forward to a visit once it reopens fully.
