Forgot to label the gluten-free meal. Claimed they were trained in celiac. Tried to solve it by trying to distinguish between 2 identical pieces of battered fish via a Whatsapp video call, and to make matters worse they were actually convinced they could. Somehow doubt that was in the trainnig! I won't be risking my health on these jokers!

Just to say thank you. This was my first takeout order, and I wanted a gluten-free fish pie. I thought I'd added a note regarding gf. When I went to pick it up, gf wasn't on the order note. They just made up another one, no fuss, no extra charge. Great service.

Wasn't the best fish, cod was extremely dark meat. Batter was thick no crisp, No kebab meat available Curry sauce spicy Overall was really disappointed as I'd heard some good reviews

Travel 12 miles regularly as it is the best fish and chips around.

Hopefully just a one off. Went in last Sunday and ordered. (Sorry friday Jan 17th 4pm ) Food was ok being fair but gave us the stuff that had been clearly sat around a while but no complaints on that. The issue was the boys club behind the counter. Being loud and swearing ect. Was not really bothered myself but was a mother and her children in the service area and she looked very uncomfortable.At one point even throwing food from the back to the fella at the till of which a bit hit a customer even though the big lad tried to stop in. I assume there was no manager about but working closely with food hygiene and food standards this was just shocking. I hope they actually check these reviews and take note. I'm sure is all on camera was approximately 3 pm. Embarrassing for the owners I would think.

Wish I could give a better review but sadly used this place 5 times since it opened . At least 3 times had grey fish. Did have one good chicken kebab then the following week it tasted as though a bottle of salt had spilt in it. Last night my daughter and her partner had a battered sausage (which wasn't very warm) and he had fish cakes, both were sick after this and not great today. Hope others have a better experience.This was at Markham Vale, my neighbour also had a bad meal on Saturday the chips had a bad oil taste to them. Gave it one more go tonight and my husband went and and order and collected and the fish was lovely and also the mushy peas. Chips could have been cooked a little longer but overall delicious.

Ate in at the Stonegravels restaurant..group of 5, inc teens and OAP…all loved it, scampi, fish n chips, ribs and pies all really enjoyed our meal, good cakes and cheesecakes too. Very friendly and efficient service too!

I've only ever had a takeaway. Always great food and lots of gluten free options, which the reason we go there. The staff are always really friendly and there is always a jovial atmosphere amongst the staff and they're often having a bit of banter which is entertaining whilst you wait!

50 minutes we waited for our food (fish and chips and a pie), other tables came in was served and left before we even had our food. When the food arrived it was nice (not as nice as the other branch though) and the staff were very friendly and apologetic. Prefer the Whittington Moor branch by miles

Ive been all over the world for fish and chips and the fish from here is the best. Chips are a bit pale but nothing to complain about tbh.

First time visiting after pre booking earlier in the week. We was promptly seated, the table service was friendly, polite & efficient, nice atmosphere, clean & tidy. We had starters (Prawn cocktail & 3 cheeses) & mains (steak & halloumi) the portion sizes were huge! Presented well, hot & tasty. My only negative is that the canned Guinness is not very nice & it wasn't particularly cold / chilled. We enjoyed the visit that much we purchased a gift voucher for a Christmas gift for a family member. Would definitely revisit.

Love their kebabs. Their fish and chips is good as well. But my kids meal few months had too many bones in them that too in cod.. So I would be careful giving my son their fish. Service, they are too busy, always chit chatting among selves but it is ok service.

One of the worst places ive been for food not only was the staff rude to my Fiance the food was mediocre and when i said i wasnt happy with the food they just Shrugged it off! Avoid

Went to chester markham vale , We go here for takeaway quite frequently, Usually very good, Today we went to the restaurant , Wife had fishcake, it was lovely, so no complaints there. I had fish pie, which was excellent as usual, Problem was the Chips were very small and lots of bits, They were nearly cold as well, When mentioned, the server said i will inform the chef. I know it was mid afternoon, But COLD chips , really. Was going to take in-laws here for meal, Would think twice now.

Sad fish batter mainly half cooked chips not impressed all shop front without the quality product tried for a refund or some discount meet with deaf ears and promise that owner would call still wait this really deserve a minus ten expensive as well and as for call back just the same as the lies they promise to pay bank check out the negative pledge made to bank get rich off the backs of hard working people scum total

Had to cook chips fresh for us as it was nearly closing time, this was no bother to them, friendly folk, tasty food.

My husband and I had the Pensioners lunch and it was beautiful. Big pieces of cod. Chips. Side salad, which was better than most places. Mushy peas. Tea or coffee. A round journey of 28 miles and worth the journey.

Fish and chips below par on this visit. The chips were white and not crispy, the fish was OK but the batter was soggy and like thick dough. Shame as we have had first class food many times in the past. Needs some quality control.

Chester’s take out is fantastic! Each month I travel to Chesterfield from North Wales to see family but always try to stop here for a late lunch. Food is amazing and incredible value for the huge portions they serve. Great taste, great service, always a pleasure to stop by. Thank you guys 🙏

How exciting can fish n chips get. I ordered the gluten free meal, and the waitress gave me a standard meal!!!!!! It was only the fact that I questioned it that it got amended. Could have been naughty! Had to wait for my meal which was served after every one else had finished.

Found Chesters by accident looking for lunch while on a training course in Chesterfield September gone. Wow...what a blessing. Chesters serves the best chips around town, fresh and crisp, so had return and grab some more today. Again great chips, great atmosphere and ambience with great staff and customer service. For all of you out there who love clean crisp chips, Chesters is the one😉💪🏿😉

Tuesday night fish and chip supper. Neither fish nor chips cooked properly. Binned pretty much the whole lot once I got home. £11 down the swanny. Long time customer now had two really poor and frankly inedible meals here recently so that's me done. North Sea Fish Bar for me from now on.

Absolutely brilliant. We were a party of 8 and service was really efficient. My children loved not only the food and free ice-cream but the park too. Food was excellent and portions were ample. Quality great, piping hot and tasted amazing. Couldn't fault anything. We will be back 😀

Make sure you check your order thoroughly before you leave the restaurant. I visited last week got home and found items were missing. This isn’t the first time. the standard food is nice. I wouldn’t call the staff particularly friendly more business like, a little bit of abrupt, overall not bad but nothing special.

It was ok but I didn't think the fish was as good as it could of been. I've been to the other branch a few times but I've only been here once so it could of been a one off however, it didn't seem like it was the same as I was used to. On a positive, the chips were cracking and did taste the same.

Amazing Food, Great customer service, very clean and fast service. My Dad had Gluten-free Halumi Sticks with chips and beans. Could do still abit more range for a vegetarian that Gluten-free.

Great fish and chips at a reasonable price. Large cod with chips and a side mushy peas etc £14. Cooked fresh as you order, also comes with a nice bit of side salad.

The From the sea Cod meal was delicious, and I'm glad they offered tomato ketchup among other sauces to have with the meal.

Wow omg I’ve had many fish and chips and gravy but this place was immense plenty of seating clean fresh decor ,waitress was really good only slight on her part was I’d sooner choose my own table to sit at not be told this one etc ,but then the food was ordered cooked fresh haddock chips mushy peas and yes the gravy is a must must have , the fish has fresh has the sea it came from the batter very light but crisp , the chips nice slight crisp to them fluffy on the inside not greasy either mushy please was line I remember has a kid on bonfire might the four was green origanal not those fake illuminous ones and tasted exceptional,gravy was wow gorgeous , washed down with a can of Ben shakes cloudy lemonade in a glass with ice now that’s a lemonade with jazz I’m buying a case refreshers the parts no other pop can keep up the amazing quality I want to come back again asap but I’m miles away but guys this place on frodsham street Chester get yourself in there

I had mixed meat and chips!! Chicken - tasted like bbq flavour (I hate bbq) doesn't say nothing about the flavouring on the menu. Chips - enemic (like pale enemic) Asked for salt and vinegar, swear they've not put it on coz didn't taste it. Donnor meat - worse I've ever tasted. Proper cheap, Nasty donnor meat. Ended up throwing it away and going elsewhere!!!

I did find the salmon a bit dry and no sauce like a parsley or white wine sauce to go with it but the ribs and nachos were amazing

Not often we review an establishment twice last time it was awful. Right second chance !! Soggy Luke warm chips , thin tasteless haddock . Onion rings from the freezer. Staff lovely and hard working. The sauce on my wife’s burger was just odd . We were practically the only people in there . Wont be going back !

Just had gluten-free chicken kebab with chips it was absolutely delicious. My children had a burger and chips and chicken nuggets and chips. They said they was the best ones they’ve ever tasted. Keep up the good work Chesters.

Coeliac review: this place is great for those’d with a gluten intolerance or coeliac disease like myself. I was blown away with how much choice I had and had to take several moments on deciding what to have. The gentleman taking the order was confident in allergy and contamination procedures and for the first time in years, I felt safe to order a takeaway like everyone else. That honestly would have been enough for me to give a good review but the fish was by far, the best I’ve ever had. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to give food choices to coeliacs. I promise you, it’s hugely appreciated.

Great food took a while to clean plates and give bill but barley a wait for food

Thought I’d try this place due to all the good review's so I popped in on my way home from work. But I was sadly disappointed, chips cold and tasteless and the curry sauce wasn’t up to much either. Maybe it was because of the time I called (20mins before closing time). I will definitely not be returning anytime soon.

Gluten Free fish is consistently fantastic. The chips however are always too thick cut and too soggy / not crispy. They either put too many chips in the fryer and don't give them long enough or just don't cook them long enough full stop. If there was somewhere else to go in the area that did both quality and thoroughly cooked fish AND the chips gluten free then I would go but I will have to put up with soggy, thick, stodgy chips for now which is a shame.

We booked in advance but there was only one other table in use. We had the small fish & chip dinner with a choice of peas. It was extremely tasty and we both enjoyed it a lot. We also said that if what we had was the small fish, we wouldn't be able to eat a large one. The food was good the service was good but as it was so empty there wasn't an atmosphere really. A friend commented on the fact that when she visited the food was served immediately. She wasn't happy as the food wasn't freshly cooked for them. It was from the retail fish & chip counter next door It didn't bother me when I visited but she felt she was paying restaurant prices for chip shop food ! Different people will always see things differently won't they ? Personally it was good food, excellent fish, chips weren't very hot but that would be the only negative We don't go often, but it seems to be consistently good

We always go to Chesters and normally the food is fantastic, I called in last night for fish and chips for the family, firstly they forgot my chips, I had to go back for them I also ordered 3 big cod, got 2 big cod and 1 haddock which was horrible grey and old looking, such a shame because normally the food is really good.

The best fish and chips in Chesterfield and beyond. We've eaten in the restaurant and had takeaway and they are perfect each and every time. Cod is always white and perfectly battered, and chips are cooked perfectly. We are really picky when it comes to fish and chips, and Chesters are by far our favourite. Oh, and the curry sauce is wonderful.

Had chicken kebab from the take away. Pitta and salad was nice, but the meat was dry. Probably shouldn't go for a kebab in the daytime! 4 rather than 3 stars as frankly the fish looked great and I should have had that.

The bloke at the bar told me that the salt and pepper chips were a one day special but they were amazing. Had a box meal and halloumi fritters and got way more than other local chippys would serve.

Very disappointing..paid £25 for takeaway and just not worth it. .didn't enjoy it at all. Wasn't even wrapped properly...and won't be going back.

I went with my 84 year old mother for an evening meal. She wanted smaller portions but “pensioner” specials stop being served at 3 pm! We were served at the table and the service was functional and brief. When it was time to pay we were expected to go and stand at the till , where we were ignored by the person serving and it was left to me to pay the bill on behalf of my mum who needed to sit down again while we were waiting: Suggestions: Either have order & pay at the bar or table service not a confused hybrid of both. Recognise pensioners do go out after 3 pm Don’t expect seniors to stand and wait to pay or assume the able bodied will be paying. Send all your staff on a customer service course.

Ate in the 'restaurant' in March and found the place to be almost devoid of any character or 'atmosphere'. All of the customers herded into one corner at the front with minimal privacy as a result. Ordered two small portions of cod and chips which arrived so quickly that the fish must have already been standing, not freshly cooked which should be expected in a restaurant. The impression was that they were not interested in the customers' eating experience. The batter on the fish was not crisp and the chips were tasteless and again not freshly cooked. The tea was the best part of the meal. Despite this experience we returned a week later to get more cod and chips from the take-away counter with a view to finishing the cooking in our air fryer. Standing fish again supplied. 10 minutes in the air fryer crisped up the fish and soggy chips nicely but the chips were again tasteless. Conclusion is that Chesters may be well past it's best.

A take away chip shop trying to be a restaurant which they are failing at Firstly waiting staff should dress appropriately without mid rifts on show, it’s a restaurant not a fashion show. Staff should be able to use the ordering system, table booked for 7:00pm. Ordered food at 7:05. 40 minutes later the scantly dressed waitress informed us that she forgot to press the “order” button and our order would be another 8 mins. When our food arrived all servings had salad and peas on the plates, we ordered 2 servings without salad or peas. Whilst the food was very nice the service was shocking and we won’t be eating in again. It’s a chip shop and we will buy take away agin but won’t be eating in again

Had the seniors special fish & chips plus a cup of tea, great value for money, a good portion of good quality fish and chips served up by a very friendly waitress.

The restaurant owner's steal the staff's tips, so if you think that you're tipping the waiting staff for their hard work, it's all going in the owner's fat pockets (who think they are the chip shop mafia), even the cash tips. It's shameful on the part of the owners and sad for the employees who are being paid NMW. If the owners are reading this, stop stealing from your employees, it's disgusting and SHAMEFUL!

Lovely staff, sang for my son for his birthday and friendly service. Food was great and we sat in the boat seating so was like being at the seaside! Will definitely return. Make sure you park in the restaurant car park and put your reg in the iPad on arrival to avoid any parking charges.

Food is good, as it should be for the price, service was lacking. Not everything on the menu was available, no calamari, no cake of the day as examples.

Ordered gluten free haddock and chips to take away. Short wait for order but delicious food was worth waiting for! Recommend a visit. I used this handy food outlet again for a gluten free take out meal. Staff were friendly and chatty! Jan 2023. Ordered another takeaway, gluten free. Short wait while it was cooked especially, restaurant must have been busy as car park was full at front, not many waiting for takeaway orders. Saturday May 2023 Enjoyed another takeaway meal, gluten free. Car park was full so restaurant busy but not takeaway section! 20 July 2023 Had an appointment locally so decided to buy lunch before went home. Ordered gluten free fish & chips in box with mushy peas & 2 sausages for my husband. We shared the chips. November 2023 Nothing changed, still very tasty takeaway meals. February 2024 still lovely freshly cooked, gluten free meals!!

Visited in a trip to see family we just turned up on the Off chance and was met by frie day staff who although busy found us a table, food was lovely and well worth the visit, prices are reasonable also.

Just called in for fish and chips at 8.30pm, after looking at the closing time of 9pm. They refused to serve me, so make sure that you call in at 7pm otherwise you will not get served.

We are quite regular customers however on our recent visit the restaurant was very cold people keeping their coats on throughout meal and the plates food was served on also cold needless to say food by each mouthful was getting colder. A small heater was visible but not giving enough heat to warm a budgie cage. It’s not the cheapest fish and chips but best go in warmer temperatures
