Wow! where do I start… This gem of a hotel is just amazing! Excellent location for visiting Lincoln and free parking a bonus. Super friendly helpful staff, the lady on reception is lovely. We only stayed in a double room and this did not disappoint. spotlessly clean & so cosy. Excellent tea tray & coffee machine Hot croissants for breakfast delivered to your door was so quirky and cute. We loved every minute of our stay and will definitely be returning and plan to book the suite !

We had one of the larger rooms which was tastefully decorated and well appointed. The receptionist was lovely, she greeted us at the gate and made sure we were comfortable. Breakfast was delivered to the door at the appointed time and consisted of a croissant and yogurt with butter and jam.plenty of orange juice tea and coffee including a Nespresso machine. A quiet interesting and very nice place to stay with private secure parking right in the centre of the historic cathedral quarter.

Really enjoyed my stay in Lincolnshire, and The Old Palace really complimented it. Lovely vibe and a minutes walk away from the town and Cathedral. Gotta love that Steep hill. Our room was very peaceful and had an amazing view. And compliments to the friendly and helpful staff for making our weekend getaway that much more welcoming. Definitely recommended. Hopefully will return to Lincoln again in the near future, and would love to stay in The Old Palace again.

The location and beautiful building are great and the car park is a work in progress but having parking right outside in the Bailgate area is a definite bonus. Go up hill for some nice relaxing pubs and restaurants or downhill for more of the same but busier and louder. The breakfast provided is varied with the full English using noticeably quality ingredients and just the right amount. We only found our disappointment with the room. If you want one of the rooms with the stained glass windows or a view, make sure when you book that your allocated one. The room we were in had a very small window which looked out onto the gulley between two pitch roofs so our view was roof tiles. We were also surprised to find a section of the bathroom floor stuck down/together with gaffa tape. The room was very warm, to the point that even with the window wound right open we still slept on top of the covers.

We stayed one night on a recent visit to Lincoln and was so impressed with this B&B! Its perfectly located on Steep Hill but with a private gated car park and set back from the main strip so wonderfully quiet. It is a beautiful building with some amazing original features such as the stained glass and vaulted windows yet the rooms have all the mod cons. I have seen comments about it being cold but if anything we found the rooms to be toasty warm and actually had to open the windows - this was in windy March! Breakfast was also amazing, lots of choice and the cooked breakfast was delicious. Above all the staff were so lovely and could not be more welcoming. We loved our visit and would def stay again if we return to Lincoln!

This small hotel close to Lincoln Cathedral is agreeable in many ways, and its staff were very pleasant and helpful. However, the building is perched on the edge of a hillside and is not easy for mobility impaired travellers - nor is there any public transport access. Te hotel has no evening restaurant service but there are good eating places nearby if you're happy to walk along steep cobbled streets.

Not a 'hotel' but a rather expensive bed and breakfast. Lovely old converted chapel but very cold. Radiators not working. Window blind not working which meant that people could see in from nearby path. Breakfast looked nothing like photos on website and was rather poor, small portions and with strange rules eg. if you have tomato you can't have beans and vice versa........Shower located over bath, high-sided bath with no non-slip mat - very dangerous for older people. No room service or bar, no evening meal, no hotel facilities - yet we booked as a 'hotel' (still have the emailed recipt which states 'hotel')...... We paid nearly 400 pounds for two nights - terribly over-priced to be honest.Staff friendly and helpful. Would not stay there again.

I stayed here for the first time and found it difficult to locate - even with SatNav. Once I had found the building, by sighting a flying flag, it was lovely. The rooms for guests are located in a hall annexed a short distance from the main reception area. My single room was at the top of the hall and beautifully decorated with a comfortable bed and agood modern en-suite bathroom. The night view from the window was spectacular looking down on Lincoln city. The breakfast is at the topof the main reception building and was one of the best freshly-cooked I have tasted - real Lincolnshire sausage. I would recommend this hotel for the experience of staying next door to the cathedral in a hisgtorical building. There is no restaurant here but Steep Hill is only a few minutes walk away with its bistros and pubs. There idoes not appear to be wheelchair acces to most parts of this building.

Stunning location with a fantastic view of the Cathedral and also across the city. Stayed in room 29 in the converted chapel. The only thing we could criticise about the accommodation was the lack of view from our bedroom! Having paid £85 for bed and breakfast, we didn't expect the small window which looked out onto a leaf filled gutter in between sloped rooves to the left, and just about see part of a building to the right. Had to wait until we got to the lovely breakfast room to see perfect views across Lincoln, and also of the Cathedral. Lovely breakfast. Very friendly staff. And free car parking. We thoroughly recommend staying here. It's full of history and character. Our bedroom was small but comfy. Just a stones throw to walk through a tunnel to the Cathedral, or exit the gate by the converted chapel which leads to the top of Steep Hill.

I booked this hotel based on the beautiful photograph . The location looked spectacular and as it was a couple holiday we wanted a quiet place where we could unwind and enjoy the scenery of Lincoln. The hotel was a little tricky to find although sign posted it was not too clear whether we had arrived as the courtyard incorporates another Heritage site part of the cathedral Bishops Library. We eventually found it and parked the car. It was a lovely hotel from the outside and the courtyard faces the stunning Lincoln cathedral. The reception lady was very friendly and directed us to the rooms which were located through the main hotel into a lodge outside. However it was very pretty and found out it was old chapel and was converted into little hotel rooms. We had the room on the second floor very characteristic and compact. Lovely bedcovers and a nice ensuite, lovely medieval looking décor and quite luxurious. We did not have air conditioning but had a stand up fan we did have to watch our heads as the ceiling slopes down my husband is 6 foot tall and had to stoop in case he banged his head. We did have a small push out window and that overlooked a lovely view of the rooftops of the city. We liked the room. We were out most of the day anyway so ony came back to change or have a coffee or tea. There was internet included so I could use my Ipad and watch TV. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served in the main breakfast room in the main building we ordered the Full English through the waiters and waiteresses. Nice portions and very filling was delicious tea and coffee and toast and cereals were available. The hotel was clean but could do with some TLC. Although clean and comfortable some more money could be spent on decorating and it easily be a four star hotel. Some nice paintings and furniture. Has a stunning terrace overlooking the city and a beautiful garden. It is a great location and very Impressive from a distance. Great views would definitely upgrade to a better room for the lovely view in the main hotel. Staff were friendly and very polite had a great time in Lincoln. Went to the RAF Coningsby, Bubble Car museum and Lincoln Cathedral. Had a nice meal in the hotel really enjoyed the old City a lot of walking around the town loved the cobbled steps and old style shops. Full of character and history. Would definitely come again. Loved the hotel.

Breakfast was great , when we asked about eating at the hotel (as we where guests) we where informed that we could only eat at certain times - if we booked. I asked when the "certain times" where - to be informed that the receptionist didn't know. Maybe if I called back to reception later I could find out. seeing that our room was the furthest away from reception - in the annexe closer to the lovely bistros and restaurants of old Lincoln - we went in to Lincoln to eat and had some truly amazing meals out.On arrival at the hotel, the housekeeper informed us that she was emabarrased to take us to our room as the hotel "is dirty, needs painting and new carpets" - also put us off eating there.

The venue is without a doubt out of this world! The appearance of the afternoon tea layout, also exquisite. The "afternoon tea" experience however is anything but!We were one of 2 tables of diners, 1 a party of 2 and us a party of 5 (hardly flat out, hey!). It was at the start of the lunch/afternoon meal session and yet we had to ask 3 times for milk and the sugar to go with our "afternoon tea" and when the sugar finally made an appearance we then had to request again for the milk before that came. Getting hold of a waitress became a game at one point, as unless they were taking something to a table they were not in the restaurant.Haha, the beautifully displayed scones came out to the table, and wow they were warm, they looked amazing. The jam and clotted cream were delivered to the table, however most of us preferred to have butter, so made the request, again 3 times we had to ask, by the time they did bring the butter to us the scones were cold, and due to the lengthy wait most of us had eaten our scones anyway!Would i go again? A beautiful location, but lessons in waitressing/attending to customers and attention to detail a must before I attend The Old Palace again.

Having met their representatives at the Lincolnshire Show Ground at the Christmas Food and Craft Fayre I had high hopes for our celebration meal booked for today. How wrong I was. We arrived by taxi to be greeted by a lobby with no signage other than a Stokes Coffee swing sign and a small square declaring Old Palace out side. A glass panel in the door or even a sign saying entrance would be a big step forward. Having made our way inside we were directed to a lounge area having been told someone would be with us soon. The lounge could be very nice except there was the remains of someone’s afternoon tea still on the table. Two of the arm chairs are very thread bare with the arms worn through to the stuffing. The others could do with a good vacuum as the sides seams are full of crumbs. Eventually the waiter arrived to ask if we would like a drink. We would have liked a kir but a request for this produced a blank look so we asked for a glass of dry white wine. I notice that two white wines are offered by the glass but we were not asked if we had a preference. The toilet outside the lounge could be quite nice if only someone bothered to turn the heater on and fixed the hot tap so it did not swivel round as you tried to use it. Our table was booked for 19.00, we arrived slightly early, at 19.15 we were asked to come up to the restaurant. Why were we not shown the menu whilst we were sat in the lounge? Why did the waiter not offer to carry our drinks upstairs? As we walked up to the restaurant I noticed two discarded hangers on the piano at the top of the stairs, they were still there when we left over an hour later! We were shown in to an empty room and told to pick any table for two, what a great welcome that was. Having sat down we were presented with the menu, it would have been good if we had both been given the same menu. Mine had a series of abbreviations under each dish but no explanation as to their meaning, just as well mine was the wrong menu then. Having made our choice and ordered I then ordered a bottle of Chablis, shown as 2011 on the wine list. I was presented with 2012 which I queried as whilst I accept vintages run out I do expect staff to know and advise guests before presenting the bottle as a fait accompli! It was also a shame the wine was only just chilled as if it had not been in the wine fridge. Our starters were decidadly average, the duck being very cold as if just removed from the fridge and the rissoto being overpowered by lemon/garlic and not at all creamy as one would expect. The main course, when they arrived 20 minutes later, were good but why present them on black plates, the presentation is lost as it can not be seen. The dessert presented well but if you closed your eyes you would never have know it was meant to be a rich chocolate mousse. All in all a very disappointing evening especially as we were the only two guests in the reataurant, I dread to think what would have happened if it had been busy.

I had high hopes for our celebration meal booked for Tuesday. How wrong I was. We arrived by taxi to be greeted by a lobby with no signage other than a Stokes Coffee swing sign and a small square declaring Old Palace out side. Having made our way inside we were directed to a lounge area having been told someone would be with us soon. The lounge could be very nice except there was the remains of someone’s afternoon tea still on the table. Eventually the waiter arrived to ask if we would like a drink. We would have liked a kir but a request for this produced a blank look so we asked for a glass of dry white wine. Our party of 6 had a table for Saturday 6th December 2014 at 8pm, which we were so pleased with considering most restaurants were full due to it being the Lincoln Christmas Market. The building itself is beautiful, the surrounding areas are beautiful and the waiting staff were absolutely lovely. All of our meals were superb and of such high standard, apart from one of the meals. My husband ordered Partridge, which was lovely, however towards the end of his meal he found what can only be described as plastic in his meal. After finding four pieces we alerted the waitress, who went on to speak to the chef. Sadly the response from the chef was that the 'plastic' was not indeed plastic but 'skin from the chorizo'. In hindsight we should have asked to speak to the chef himself. My husband eats chorizo enough to know what the chorizo skin tastes like and the fact that the plastic was in no way edible, it was obvious this was a very poor excuse. The waitress didn't offer any other way of apology and not even a drink to compensate for the fact there was a foreign body in one of our meals! Such a shame as all the other meals were superb. Perhaps the chef would gain from some customer service/honesty training! For such a high end restaurant this is such a disappointment!

You need to book well in advance as the room is very small and only has a few tables. That said very efficient and friendly staff and very tasty food although the menu is limited. It would have been nice if the hotel has contacted us earlier and enquired about a meal booking as we were guests. We stayed for 2 nights but were only able to get a table for one night.

Food and service were almost excellent, probably should be described as "almost there but not quite". The ambience was a little too formal and quiet. I hesitate to suggest it, but a little (quiet) background music might help.

Gin and tonic tea what more could you ask for .... the drawing room was lit by chandeliers with the sun setting over Lincoln this made a wonderful setting for an afternoon tea.The food was fresh, plentiful and presentation brilliant. We were not rushed at all and when requested there was more sandwiches and plenty of different teas to choose from.

Recently returned to The Old Palace for afternoon tea after a somewhat disappointing visit in July and I must say we were pleasantly surprised by the improvements to the seating arrangements and the service. A very pleasant setting for afternoon tea.

Came here on September 29th for afternoon tea it was my mothers birthday and there was 6 of us. We were greeted by lovely staff and we were mostly looked after by a lovely lady who was fantastic the whole time and nothing was to much trouble, We did arrive early but was told that it was no problem so we decided to go and sit in the garden for a little while as it was such a beautiful day and a lovely place to take some family photos. The room we had our afternoon tea in was lovely not to big and had lovely views. We had a choice of different teas and a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and a homemade scone with jam and cream and was offered top ups on our teas which we all had. I thought the price of the afternoon tea was very reasonable. Do make sure you know where the old palace is as it is hid away I asked for directions when I booked it. It is in a beautiful location right next to lincoln cathedral. Overall I thought it was great as did the rest of my family. I am already arranging another afternoon tea here for when my grandmother comes to stay. I was very pleased that they had onsite parking as my mother does have some mobility problems they also have a lift to get down into the garden and a ramp. I really enjoyed my afternoon and more important my mother absolutely loved it. We will be returning

We booked for afternoon tea on a Saturday. It was not the cheapest we have been to however the quality of the service was first rate. We opted for the specialty teas and would recommend these to anybody. The various food stuffs at first glance looked small but at the end we both were will satisfied. Would go again

A two night break in Lincoln brought us to the Old Palace Hotel, discreetly found just below the splendid cathedral and next to the ruins of the mediaeval Bishop's Palace. Monday being a fallow evening for most of the local restaurants we tossed a coin between the newly opened restaurant at the Old Palace and the Reform restaurant at the Castle Hotel. Heads was for our hotel and what a stroke of luck that proved. The upstairs dining room might be small - only about 20 possible covers - but it had charm and offered comfort. The meal was excellent in every respect, beginning with the professionalism of the young but we'll-trained waitress and continuing with the quality of the food. The 'Dambuster Cheese Salad' and Pate first courses and the chicken breast and pork loin main dishes were our choice and we were not unrewarded, delighting both visually and in the mouth. Highly recommended. Tonight, the Jew's House restaurant on Steep Hill.....

When deciding where to eat, in Europe or the UK, we always use Tripadvisor and eat at a Top 10 Restaurant! Having lived in Lincoln 12 years, whilst knowing this was a great hotel and wedding venue, we were not aware of the delights of the restaurant! It was absolutely superb. Compared with the best in Barcelona and many other cities. The Da Vinci Code settings with outstanding fine dining. We had pigeon and Lincolnshire salad to start, both delicious and rack of lamb and fillet of pork as main. Would love to have tried the sweets but just too fullOverlooking the Cathedral which was well lit so beautiful!A must try

We like to be close to culture and history, and this place couldn't be closer! Adjacent to the cathedral, the castle and the mediaeval bishops' palace, you're right there. Excellent breakfast. We stayed in the converted church a stroll (outdoors) from the main building. The Green Room there is great, overlooking the city and bit further from the bells of the cathedral. Only a one-night stay, but loved it!

We attended The Faulty Towers we evening as a celebration for my husbands birthday. It was excellent and exceeded all our expectations. I did wonder whether the food would suffer with all that was going on but it was top notch, hot, well served and of excellent quality. We are still laughing and talking about the fun and highly entertaining evening that we had. Well done to all involved for making it such a memorable evening.

Myself and my fiancé dined at the old palace to celebrate our engagement, to look at having our wedding there and to bid him a farewell before deployment. Booking the table was pleasant, the rest of the experience AWFUL, with my lasting memory being followed out of the building and shouted across the car park to ask if we'd paid - we had! Food is ok, traditional, service is rushed and atmosphere none existent. We were given a tour by the food and beverage manager in mind for a wedding reception, he couldn't have been more rude and dismissive. A real shame as it could be a true Lincoln gem, it's anything but!
