I first visited this restaurant in September and had a lovely meal no complaints, I’ve since visited twice more, in early October, I visited again., I ordered a meal again and asked for a rump steak medium, when it arrived, it was rare, I left the table and quietly went up to tell the waitress that it wasn’t as I had ordered, she apologised and 10 minutes later my steak arrived back, it was inedible !! I called in tonight for a drink, & the chef’s wife asked if she could have a quiet word with me round the corner, - She told me in no uncertain terms that I was not welcome, & I would never be served again. I asked why, she told me that I’d complained before about the meal, and that I had gone into the bar afterwards and told everyone about the awful meal I had had. This was a downright lie as I am not that kind of person. It’s a sad time if a restaurant cannot take any criticism without banning someone for complaining.

A generous portion of wonderful quality meat. Superbly cooked. The accompanying vegetables vary from week to week, and are exquisite. It is also beautifully served meal. Highly recommend

We spent two nights here; wonderful old building our plan was to return every six weeks when we visit our son. We are very sad to learn the owners have put it up for sale, I hope whoever takes it on does not spoil the charm of the building. It would be a shame to see such the stone floor and the servants bells removed for example. The breakfast we had the Full English it was brilliant everything cooked to perfection with fried bread. All the food on the plate was locally sourced with the exception of beans. The bread for fried bread and toast is locally baked it is out of this world. The bar is small however well stocked with a good range of beers and spirits. Our bed room was clean and comfortable, very quite to say irt is on a junction so quite we slept with the window open. In all an excellent stay, Sophie (joint owner) does a fantastic job at running the hotel, if I was looking for an hotel manager I would snap her up.

The menu looked good, chose Smoked salmon and Dill cheesecake. Unfortunately, could not taste salmon at all, just (I think) Crème Fraiche. Main course was pork (chop) with apple crust, this was mediocre and the (extra) side of veg was lacking in any taste. Shame as had been looking forward to the meal. Stayed for breakfast and that was excellent!! Nicely cooked scrambled egg and tasty bacon and sausages

This is a beautiful place with super friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The food is edible and will satisfy your hunger. But it was boring and uninspiring. I suppose burgers or salads may be ok but we went for more restauranty dishes on a Saturday evening. Pastry on a vegetable Wellington was undercooked and soggy. Duck was ok. Fish of the day was a small sea bass which was very thin and over cooked, served with roast new potatoes which were a little sour (as opposed to say nice boiled potatoes served with butter and mint). Bread and butter pudding was undercooked doughy stodge with a tiny jug of custard. A berry pavlova was good however as this appeared to be freshly prepared. Overall though the food was bland and dreary. You would get better quality buying a premium supermarket prepared dinner and reheating it at home. Maybe there is little demand for a good restaurant in Wellington but this place was half empty on a Saturday night so what they are doing is not that successful. Mediocre food at demanding prices. The super charming venue deserves better.

There is a really good menu with a good range of vegan food to choose from. Sadly, the actual dishes chosen were nothing special and therefore not good value for money: the salad which accompanied one starter was dry and the vegetable side with one of the mains was cold. The atmosphere in the restaurant was flat (candles or flowers on the tables would help) and we were quite cold. Not worth a return visit - very disappointing!

Went today four adults and a toddler. Service was excellent. I think we had a new young man who I previously saw shadowing.. you were great. I loved my beef dinner. My mother in law and wife had chicken in tarragon sauce which they loved and my father in law had cod which he enjoyed. My son loved his chicken strips which were proper chicken breast. The veg was not hard but i like mine supper soft but didn’t deter from the amazing meal. The gravy was another level. Oh and the beef!!! Beautiful. Will definitely be back.

We used to go here regularly but not been for years, sadly really disappointed. Service was really slow only one person waiting on and even though when we arrived there were only 2 other small tables we waited 45 mins for food. No one checked we were ok or if we wanted more drinks. Food was disappointing when it arrived very bland, I asked about the fact there was no sauce when the menu said in a cream sauce to be told it’s only light not actually creamy. My hubby had the mix grill which he said was nice apart from the sausage as he felt wasn’t cooked enough for him. Such a shame but wouldn’t go again

We booked in for Sunday lunch and so pleased we did. We chose the 3 course menu for just under £20 each. I had the Prawn Cocktail and hubby had the sausage and black pudding which I will definitely order next time even though my prawn cocktail was delicious. We both had the roast beef with THE best Yorkshire I’ve ever tasted. Finally I had a dreamy chocolate torte and hubby had the cheese board. All the staff were lovely and not intrusive but there where when needed.

I went here on a Saturday night for the first of my 50th birthday celebrations. There were 16 guests in total and we ate in a private room which they had decorated for us. It looked amazing. The food was pre-ordered from a menu which the chef and I had agreed in advance. All the food was amazing. With all the steaks cooked to each individual’s preference. The service was brilliant and the waiting staff announced the food that they had and the name of the person when bringing out each dish which helped those people who had forgotten or were too tipsy to know their order. The wine was also very good. The Old Orleton also made my birthday cake based on my request and a picture I provided. It was one of the best cakes I have ever had. All in all it was great night and I would highly recommend the Old Orleton for a celebration.

What can i say about tonight? This was a meal for my husband retiring after 28 years , when asked where he would like to go for a meal he said the old orleton. We have been here lots when pete and paul owned it, having followed them from olivers . We loved both! Many a meal, many a new years eve! Fab food and a wonderful hotel. Well what a disappointment! Ordered soup to start and the haddock cakes plural? The soup lovely flavour but thick like baby food! And one cake! I am mainly veggie, but will eat fish, the only dishs for mains for myself was risotto, or a burger! I don't go to a beautiful place like the old orleton for a burger! And didnt fancy risotto. So ended up with sea bass. 15.95. Roasted tomatoes cold and hard, the waiter asked if all ok? And i said about the toms, he changed them for me, but you could tell he not happy i had mentioned this! My meal was dry! Pasta and crayfish no sauce, seabass a good sized piece, but all so dry! . My husband had fish and chips, lovely! But this is a hotel and i dont want burger or fish and chips! When asked if food ok? I said no, and how dry it was, the waiter was not happy, you could tell even with a mask on! He said he would not charge for it, and i should have mentioned, and he would have changed it. For what though? Prev owners had lots of veggie meals on, and the waiter said he disagreed with me over options? But where was the veggie options, as i only saw 3?.burger, risotto or strudel? Not the kind of food i expected in such an establishment? You could see he not happy with my comments! I tell the truth and soup was thick, and main dry! My husbands main was lovely! We had cheeseboard for 2, 10.00 pounds alot for what we had? And we paid 25 pounds for bottle of wine. I felt so sad, that the place we loved let us down on this very special occasion. And sorry to say we would not revisit. The glory days have gone. So very sad. The final bill came with coffees taken off the balance. 88 pounds for a meal that did not hit the spot. And a waiter who would not accept my comments.

We hadn't been to The Old Orleton before but were drawn is as they were offering one of the more varied and interesting set festive menus we could find. It's a really cosy, nicely laid out place and it was nice to find Hobson's beer available at the bar. The main courses in particular were really impressive and generously portioned...I went with sea bass, which was a huge fillet served on crab mash alongside roast potatoes and a delicious clementine bisque, which was full of flavour and really elevated the dish. Those who went with the traditional turkey were equally pleased (there was a lot of turkey on the plate) and the lamb especially went down well, with the Wensleydale and sprout cake a particular hit. My dessert was excellent - a really gooey chocolate and pistachio brownie with raspberry and cherries and a delicious clotted cream...a lot of brownies tend to be quite dry and disappointing but this was bang on the money. Really impressed and would definitely visit again.

There were 22 of us planned. We apprached David a few months prior to the event and we met to discuss our requirements. We told him the sort of thing we wanted and we discussed a potential meal and drinks plan. He then sent us a menu that the chef had put together which was exactly the typle of thing we wanted. Choice of 4 starters. mains and cheese & Biscuits with port. All our friends commented on how good the menu choice was. We were greeted by the pleasant and smiling owner who led us to an outdoor table in the beautiful garden. All Covid precautions are well adhered to and in place. For starters we ordered the crispy pork belly with apple and black pudding crisps served on a fresh and crispy salad. My husband and I both agreed that this was the best ever crispy pork belly starter we have ever tasted and we have tried quite a few in the past. We both chose the roast topside of beef with Yorkshire puddings, roast and new potatoes and a good selection of fresh seasonal vegetables. Every ingredient was so well presented and well cooked and each taste was delicious and full of freshness and goodness. We opted for the cheese platter to finish with and it came with a fine selection of lovely cheese and biscuits with butter, homemade plum chutney and fresh grapes. As we are new to the area we are so pleased that we have found such a lovely place for dining out. The service was very friendly and efficient and we have already booked for another meal with them soon. Thank you all from the owners to the chef and kitchen crew and the serving staff at the Old Orleton Inn and we wish you all the best that you deserve.

We’re not usually so quick to write reviews but this evening was so lovely that we had to share our experience straight away. From the start we were made to feel welcome and comfortable which is quite a feat considering the pandemic and all the weirdness and discomfort we’re all dealing with. We felt at home immediately. Lovely atmosphere, decoration, and fire.Great selection of drinks, and food. Being nosy I couldn’t help but listen to the lady (sorry I didn’t get her name) explain the various ales to another customer....she definitely knows her stuff and comes across as someone who has a real passion for what she does.Food-wise, Stand out for me was the rarebit and for Himself was the cod. Despite the fabulous dessert menu we just didn’t have room so had to say no. What a pity! Very highly recommended. Tables are well separated so no worries about social distancing. Well done, All. Rarely have I encountered such patronising and condescending service as experienced on Friday night. From shortly after arrival to the point of paying the bill, the person who served us, who we believed to be management, behaved like a modern day younger version of Basil Fawlty. Whilst his words were civil (from behind his mask - not his fault) the delivery, on at least six occasions, was undoubtedly acerbic, culminating in a discussion at point of payment when he became clearly frustrated when there was some confusion over which orifice to insert my card in the portable machine. I asked ‘what had we done to upset him?’ He blamed his mask that (1) he’d had to repeat himself on more than one occasion and (2) that we couldn’t assess his actual demeanour. Sorry doesn’t wash. He may’ve had a bad day, but we had a bad evening as a result. BTW we have dined here before on a multiple occasions over the years and never had reason to complain.

I dined at this restaurant last week with a visiting relative. Our table was booked for 8pm and we arrived at 19.30 in order to relax and have a drink in the bar area.I informed the gentleman behind the bar of our booking. As we sat in the bar we expected to take the time to browse the menu but the staff were not around so my guest wandered in to the restaurant and helped himself to the menu. The staff member whom I now realise was the manager/Owner appeared and I explained we had collected some menus to peruse. His attitude was unbelievable and he sternly informed me our table was booked for 8 pm and the menus were on the table and we should have waited to view them then.Following this rebuke the waitress( wife/partner of said owner apparently) arrived with our bottle of wine which she plonked on the table with 2 glasses and promptly left.No attempt at opening the bottle or asking if we wished to taste it . My guest from Paris was dumbstruck !! Service like this was indeed a new experience for both of us.This attitude continued throughout the evening. The meal was fine apart from the fact that I had ordered medium rare steak and got 'well done"I did not dare to complain !!leaving this establishment was the best part of the evening.

The food was pretty good, if a bit overpriced and the service was prompt and friendly - something to do with the fact we were the only ones there at that time (about 12.30)? I was taken aback by the bill (£54.60 for 2 mains, 2 puds and 2 large glasses of red) but paid up without comment as the meal was a treat for my friend. When I got home, I looked at the bill and found out that the 2 glasses of wine cost £15.30!!! Outrageous, and that's why my review is entitled Disappointed. Overnight stay here very soon after new owners had taken residence. Such a lovely couple who did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible - really, we could not have been made more welcome. The room was clean and spacious (four poster) with a wonderful en suite (with enormous bath!). I chose the vegetarian option for dinner which was amazing and a pud which was may bigger than I could ever manage but which was so delicious I just had to try!! Because I had to leave early the next morning, I was given a continental breakfast takeaway which was so thoughtful, including fresh fruit juices and bottled water for my journey. Cannot recommend Old Orleton highly enough and will certainly visit again!

I had the fishcake starter which was excellent, my partner had the pate, which was good, but lacked flavour. the mains were lamb shank and beef brisket, both of which were dry and again bland, possibly overcooked, however the vegetable accompaniment, and potatoes were superbly cooked. for dessert we had the parfait and the panna cotta which were both really tasty and made the end of the meal quite enjoyable.

I was staying at the Old Orleton Inn and arranged to meet my sister and brother in-law for dinner in the evening. It was a lovely experience. The food was great, very generous portions and very tasty. The service was lovely and really relaxed

A first visit since I had a very disappointing birthday dinner around 3 years ago (not reviewed) and curious as to how the change of ownership would turn out. It appeared to be a very popular lunch venue with groups of older people, of whom only 2 out of 10-12 were men!

Faced with a shopping trip to Telford went here first for lunch for fortification. Interesting menu not full of the usual suspects, good choice of specials as well. Food was excellent, staff friendly and a good pint of Hobsons Town Crier.

On the way back from the Huntsman I called in at this venue for a drink on a Sunday lunchtime. Everything was basically as I remembered it from 2.5 years ago except it is now kept by a young and very friendly couple, she in the bar, and he in the kitchen / front. The two dining rooms were well occupied with groups and families. I did not eat but perused the menu which is slightly above average in price, the service was good, food well presented at this up-market, clean, bright and airy venue. What I found refreshing was the parties in the bar who were some nine older characters, many of which meet here every Sunday. Many bars will be lucky to have one character but to have a friendly group is almost unheard of. I was told they are dog friendly but the dogs need to be well behaved. The wine list covers all events and tasters and is well above average. The current house French Cabernet Sauvignon is very quaffable while the beers include real ales.

Called in today with my wife for lunch and everything was clean and bright and welcoming as usual.First let down was the lack of my favourite lager as it's the only place I can get it locally. After finding a table we had to wait a while for the menu as they were still being printed, thirty minutes after opening. My wife had the ham with chips and I chose the chicken with bacon and chips. The ham was pre sliced a la supermarket chiller and my wife said it was quite dry.My chicken was ok but the bacon was a small brown square on the chicken which didnt taste of anything. On the plus side we both enjoyed our chips ,they were fluffy on the inside and crispy outside. When we went to pay we were given a bill almost twice as much as it should have been .When this was sorted the card machine was not working, luckily I had some cash.Overall not a great experience and in future we will probably give it a swerve.

We visited tthe Old Orleton on recommendation, the food was nicely prepared and very tasty but the service was pretty dire. Not sure whether we were unlucky but we had to wait well over forty minutes for quite simple meals. The other disappointment was that by the time our meals arrived and we had enjoyed them we were told it was too late to order desserts!!! Pretty poor communication on the restaurants side and such a shame as we had been told not to miss the "Drunken Bread and Butter Pudding"

Beyond a few good curry houses, there sadly isn't much choice in Wellington. This looked OK so gave it a go. The staff were fantastic: attentive, professional and friendly; the food however: it was OK, but incredibly simple. It seemed there was an cook in the kitchen but not a chef. It was the kind of food you could teach someone to make in 5minutes; great in 1990, but in 2018, for the price, you'll hope for higher quality. Portions were predictably large, so no starter. The dessert was again good but very/too simple.

We were met at the bar by a lovely guy who seated us. Nothing was rushed which suited us..the menus arrived my other half hard the beer battered cod and I the mustard chicken & root veg...both dishes were amazing..the fish actually contained lovely soft fish (which is a change from it being all batter)..the chicken was soft and delicious and came with side dish of veg (New potatoes, mange tout, cauliflower, broccoli carrots) we went all out and had dessert. The creme brulee was rich and creamy and the ice cream delicious, the Apple & cinnamon tart not too heavy on cinnamon and equally lovely..all in all fabulous food and lovely hosting skills..it's a pity we don't live closer this would definitely be a favourite place.

It had been almost 18 months since my wife and I last visited the Old Orleton. One reason was that I felt it had lost its spark, The previous owners were obviously anxious to retire after 12 years' hard work establishing it as one of the area's major dining venues, the menu had not changed substantially for almost a year and there seemed little enthusiasm for change.

So following the retirement of the previous owners, two young brothers (chefs for over 8 years in the same restaurant) have taken over the lease, we went with a bit of trepidation. All concerns abated as we ate the wonderful food and drank the wine. This place has been one of our favourite restaurants since moving to telford 11 years ago. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Good luck to the new boys but keep doing what you are doing.

What a great little find, me and my wife recently visited on the off chance we could get a table for a mid week meal we were so pleased to learn that they offered 25% off the main menu of ordered before 6:30. We both opted for for the ribeye steak. The food was exceptional and the service was very attentive, overall it was a great experience and would highly recommend.

Don’t bother going to this place. They done even open on a Sunday evening! We pulled on to the car park and there was a chap doing something to his car. We walked round to the door to find it locked,so thought there might be another entrance somewhere. No so we went back to the car upon which the man informed us “we don’t open on Sundays” What sort of business is this???

We were referred here by the owner of the guest house where we stayed (29 September). We arrived and were promptly seated and looked at the menu. Three of us ordered the King Prawns in Garlic Butter on a "ripped baguette toast". I have never, ever, been served something so absurd. It was NOT king prawns but the little ones you would expect in a M&S; sandwich and they were so over-cooked that they were tough and chewy. I wondered if they had been frozen and nuked in the microwave. And the "ripped baguette" was a whole 10" baguette over-toasted until it was hard and very dry. Garlic butter? Well, there was a bit but not enough to give the dish any taste. The only word I can think of to describe this dish is "disgusting".

We visited with some friends on Saturday night. We received a lovely warm welcome and settled in the cosy bar for a drink before being shown to our table. We had the Camembert to share for starters which was delicious! I had the ribeye steak and my husband had the faggots - both were lovely and the steak was cooked as I asked. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the staff were very friendly. We will definitely be returning.

Some years back some friends recommended this place. We were looking for somewhere new to try out with my parents. We booked and when we arrived all seemed promising with good smells, lovely artwork on the walls etc. The service was very slow and as the menu said mains took upto 30 minutes we ordered some breads and dips.... you would imagine Italian breads but we got bread rolls with what tasted like red pesto you would make a pasta dish with, olives and a lot of balsamic with hardly any olive oil. If you like tapas you would have to agree it was imbalanced and not very authentic. After clearing our breads we waited 40 minutes for our mains. No one came to check on us or refresh our drinks... we had to leave the restaurant and go to the bar and get them. When the nicely presented food arrived we all agreed that the food was below average. The taste was so disappointing. I had the chef special venison meatballs. Chef might as well have used beef as he did not do the venison justice. They were dry, the gravy was over sweet, it felt a bit gloopy like too much fruit jelly or a bit too much cornflour? Not sure?! and I have had an upset stomach all night as has my husband who had the worst burger he has ever had! When something takes so long to serve and you are paying a premium you expect the food and service to be at least good. Never returning and would not recommend in a hurry. For others who suffered like us there are some great places to eat at for a more affordable price but the food and service is also miles better. Try the Huntsman, The Woodbridge or the White Heart (top or Wrekin and Ironbridge). I hope that if the restaurant reads this they take the criticism on board. It's a lovely location and tasteful inside (apart from tacky fake fireplace tv screens). Last night your service and food let you down. The people in Shropshire are very into produce. We are so disappointed and feeling ill afterwards I can't believe we paid money for this.

We stayed here overnight and had room 1 which was nice but compact, its advertised as boutique and each room may differ along with size so room 1 maybe a smaller one but was sufficient for us and nicely presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had our evening meal and drinks here too and the food was spot on, drinks were not overpriced either. Our breakfast was included and you were spoilt for choice and the standard was high. We had an enjoyable stay here and would recommend it.

The Beefeater restaurant chain is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family. Their menu features a variety of classic international favorites, grill dishes, and burgers, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a relaxed and comfortable setting. The staff is always friendly and attentive, making sure that you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. One of the things I love most about the Beefeater is their extensive menu. There's something for everyone, whether you're in the mood for a hearty steak or a light salad. I've tried a few different dishes, and they were all delicious. Another thing I appreciate about the Beefeater is their commitment to value. Their meals are reasonably priced, making them a great option for a night out on the town without breaking the bank. Overall, I highly recommend the Beefeater restaurant. It's a great place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family.
