Re opening. In the early stages of redecorating. Just went in for a catch-up with friends for coffee. (Tuesday morning). Coffee was hotwhich is better thah some places in the town. Very friendly service. I hope all goes well for the new people.

After a refurb paid a visit. One barman who hadn’t a clue what a tia and coke was. Great start Lemonade poured from Lidl bottles Refused to serve coffee yet machine was switched on!!! Absolute shambles Won’t be returning

Left a very busy pub on a Saturday night hoping the Barley would be quieter. It was with only a handful of Customers but a few more people followed us in. Bar staff very pleasant & the Wye Valley HPA was very good.

Quite Run down needs a renovation, sticky tables and ripped seats. Food is decent but not the best.

Had an hour break from 12:00 until 1:00 and got there at about 12:17 and by 1:10 the food was still not ready nearly an hour later and in the end I had to leave before even getting my food. Bear in mind that it was just lunch (chips and a burger). This is inexcusable.

Was in Newport, popped in the Barley for a coffee and a bacon butty. Very nice. But the place is looking abit tired nowadays. Buckets everywhere catching leaks from the roof. Shame really

Had a beautiful lunch on Tuesday. My friend and I decided to have the fish nchips and mushy peas .so lovely and tasty also sticky toffee pudding would definitely recommend the lunch time meals

Main entrance door has no door closer fitted so everytime the door was left open there was a draught, really annoying to be honest. I believe this establishment is due for a refurbishment, it's long overdue as the place is really run down. Went to use the toilets and the smell hit me before I'd pushed the door open, it was dreadful. No soap to wash my hands, the backplate for the dispenser was screwed to the wall and that was it. Came out and the young barmaid was standing there tap, tap, tapping on her phone. I won't be back.

Quite on Tuesday night nice staff and good food between 10:00 and 15:00.

When I asked if they had vegan option they offered me a veggie breakfast (with eggs) or halloumi fries.. who doesn't have vegan options these days, or even know what vegan means.

Ordered a hunters chicken and my mother had the oap menu, when the meals arrived her meal was bigger than mine. I told the girl on the bar before I started eating to which she replied 'it's because your meal costs more to make....I can get you some more chips if you want' fortunately I said no cause the chips were way over cooked. Also I fail to see how my meal cost more to make as we both had chicken. My side salad consisted of just lettuce. Won't be going back.

Great place to go Friday and Saturday nights with great music and very friendly staff.

I went into the Barley with my mom and niece after walking out of Costa Coffee which was very dirty and grubby. The Barley was clean and served a lovely cup of coffee.

Lovely atmosphere. Very clean and great selection of real ales.

Friend got a free shot of bleach you just have to ask.

Menu not so good, staff very pleasant

Fun and friendly bar with a dance floor, seating area and large smoking area. Bouncers are friendly in my experience. Normally has a younger demographic on Friday/Saturday nights and is a favourite for pre-drinks before heading to the nearby nightclub. Drinks are reasonably priced but the selection of bottled drinks is poor (no Corona etc.). Some seating has also seen better days, but just stained not filthy.

Service poor...long wait even though quiet...food not up to much...jacket potato with tiny amount of chille approx 1 spoonful didn't even cover potato. Coffee bitter & not very hot...won't be going back

Friendly pub with some decent pub grub, plus amazing cakes to have with your coffee. They also have heineken on draft here, plus a schooner size glass if you can't manage a pint

Absolutely disgusting! Filthy tables awful dirty carpets and the window frame is rotten! Went in for coffee, cup was half full the rest was froth will never go in again. Glad I didn't eat in there goodness knows what the kitchen is like.

Went there yesterday for a cup of coffee well i say cup it was half coffee and half froth. The place is absolutely filthy, i don't think the carpet if ypu can call it that had been cleaned for years, absolutely disgusting, the tables were filthy as were the seats. First visit and last🤮

went with my grandsson. had the 5oz rump steak with chips. perfectly cooked and really tasty. will visit again whenver I am in Newport.

Barmaid flustered when Heineken pump went, she complained she was " busy and had loads coffees to make" when she pulled the lager through it fronted into the jug, she was tutting and moaning we said dont rush your doing fine. Eventually she passed our drinks over,,£5,70 for 2 halves lager!! Drank our drink,couldn't wait to leave! We were out 23rd to celebrate st George's day, we got taxi elsewhere.

Good food and service. Clean toilets too.

Visited on a Saturday evening, as i'd been here in the past and had good memories. It wasn't the same unfortunately. Lots of over excited teenagers letting themselves and the place down. Don't rush.

Definitely needs a refurb, had a very chemically smell too when we visited. Seems like a locals pub but with a refurb could have great potential!

Great food at great prices. The discount for over 60's is good Idea. Large bar with great selection of drinks available.

Nice place great food and friendly service

Friendly staff, good choice of drinks & food. I had a nice pint of Real ale & my girlfriend had a nice Gin & tonic with a nice slice of homemade chocolate cake.

We had a coffee and coffee cake was lovely. Cake was amazing.. service was nice and friendly x

Door staff are a bunch of nobs.. never would I drink in there 1 is defo on steroids and explodes quickly and unapropriotly..

Food was absolutely average, staff were very polite. It's what you would expect in a pub. I would like to give more stars but the decor is is a bit tired and dated and some of the chairs are on the point of collapse with badly worn out seats and worn out cushions.

Fantastic food, wounderfull hospitality , please visit our Barley mow public house ! It's the best in town of Newport Shropshire.They even let me drive in on my mobility scooter for our delicious food & drink over Easter weekend! Food good , very busy took time to clear tables but looked like two staff members on.

we were great by a snarl not a smile we went for lunch we took our grandchildren as it caters for this we were sat by a speaker that crackeled and sounded broke o. the way out we would of minded but it was too loud distorted and wrong type of music we ordered food all of it was wrong came cold a burnt we asked for them to turn down the music or switch the speaker off as the other ones were working perfectly we were snarled at at they did turn our speaker off but you could tell lady in question didn't want to do it tables were sticky and never again

They play some pretty bad music at night but they're one of the only places open late

Good cup of capachino on a Friday morning

Been here with the family several times now for the all day breakfast, £5.50 for the large breakfast and it hits the spot. Perfectly cooked and well priced, Friendly staff and fast service excellent.

Sunday afternoon, very cold and not much going on in the town. Popped into this bar, I have to say I'm slightly pleased that they didn't have any cask ales on as we could leave. Nobody in there and the place had a certain smell to it and a little shabby. Shame, in the day it was one of the best bars around.

Went into The Barley for lunch with a friend .Ordered fish chips x batter beautifully cooked and crispy and fish inside cooked succulent ly . The meal with 50pc discount was more than enough and certainly worth full price x prompt service and freshly cooked x

Charged me £4 too much. Didnt get refund. Blinded me with science. Still a good pub though.

Despite often negative comments about the barley, the staff were all extremely accommodating and we enjoyed some wonderful food. Highly recommend the fish and chips and the prices are reasonable too!

Newport on the whole seems quiet on a Saturday these days. Barley was dead, no atmosphere, but beer was nice and staff friendly enough.

We haven't had a meal here at The Barley in years! But we were in Newport today under sunny skies and it was a relaxing walk around and into the Barley we went for lunch. It was very good the Chicken, Tomato and Lettuce on Ciabatta bread...had onion rings on the side and it was just a perfect meal. Fun being back and the servers were so nice and friendly. You can be sure even if it is raining the next time we drop into Newport that we will again have a meal at the Barley!
