The Old Orchard is a really kool spot. With both indoor and outdoor areas with seating. We had lunch on the terrace which had a great view of Grand Union Canal and surrounding landscape. The Fish & Chips with Mushy peas, washed down with a Mango cider - and the Sticky Toffee Pudding for the win - went down a treat. Friendly, polite and helpful staff..... what more could we ask for. With the good weather coming we will be visiting again soon.

Beautiful place with lovely views. Period Pub with warming decor to suit. My gripe is food service is a hit and a miss especially on Fridays and weekend. The menu prices are on the high side, but plating could be more generous, fish and chips plate is okay with the fish, but chips are children portion size! The other dishes are okay but, consistency on portion size is lacking, same with service. Long wait times for food on occasions, and the servers seem lost and confused at times. Appreciate the busy peaks, but it should not compromise the food quality and service expectations. The bar is fine, that's where most people venture with sides and snacks, and sit outdoors, but if the restaurant is to continue on the value and service, then the young staff need to be guided to focus on service and experience. So a bit more chips added on the plate, won't cause bankruptcy it will only encourage repeat business. Room to improve still, and the drive up the lane to the pub is pot hole king, that needs addressing by owners!!!

Went for lunch on Good Friday, had a table booked in advance. Very busy and extremely slow service, it was over an hour before we got any food including a child's meal (4 y/old). We were told the kitchen was busy but other tables that arrived after us received their food before us. When mains finally arrived only 1 out of 4 dishes was OK. Chicken burger was cold, confit duck was soggy and clearly microwaved, steak in sandwich was raw. Was offered an alternative to the steak so had the crispy beef salad instead which was very nice. Was told the confit duck was "fine" and how it's supposed to be. Overall not a great experience, some of the front of house were helpful but I doubt we'll be back.

Came here during a long walk down the canal for a couple of pints. Got a lovely seat in the garden overlooking a decent landscape, with a large reservoir, forested areas and a big old HS2 viaduct. Had 4 decent pints in all, they were all crisp and refreshing. Price was high, over seven quid, but that's to be expected these days in any kind of decent location. We did plan on getting some of the burgers they were doing outside, but at nearly 20 quid a pop we decided to move on instead. I appreciate that's pretty much the going rate for a pub burger and chips, but we ended up getting some decent grub for around the tenner mark in a pub a bit further on. Highly recommended on a sunny day, but would be reluctant to spend too long given the prices.

A lovely last minute decision to go for lunch at a beautiful location looking across the Colne valley. The service was great, friendly and efficient staff and the food was outstanding. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the light bit fishcake and salad and my fillet steak sandwich was a gastronomic delight. Cooked medium rare and the additional balsamic onions in the sandwich were lovely. The dressing on the rocket side salad was a taste sensation and it was a very pleasant experience on a sunny Easter Saturday lunch time. Highly recommended.

Amazing view, but the food was awful. Mushroom pie had pickled onions in it which is very strange. We told the waiter that the pie wasn’t nice and he didn’t have much to say so not great service. Aside from that we ordered chips and got about 10 in total in a tiny pot, which were underdone, and the prawns in the prawn cocktail tasted of nothing and were hard. Wouldn’t eat here again.

I’ve been three times in the past year, each time the food has been wonderful but the service so poor. No place to check in if you’ve booked, not enough staff making things really slow… the table we were shown to wasn’t laid at all, I had to ask 4 times for tap water and three times for my bill. I’m a dog lover but it’s too much sometimes, there was 3 dogs barking constantly and the owners did nothing. On a busy day the car park is a nightmare, it took us 25 minutes to just get in the car park because of inconsiderate parking blocking the way. The food here is great it’s just such a shame the rest of it is pretty awful

Appalling experience. We booked a table of 5 weeks in advance. One of our party is a wheelchair user. When we arrived, the car park was in total chaos. No spaces, nobody helping organise. Not even a sign outside saying car park full. Everyone was completely stuck. It ended up taking us 45 minutes just to get out. Lots of angry drivers and disappointment. Surely if you reserved there should be a way of reserving a space too. Especially given there is nowhere else to park with disabled access. We were very disappointed and abandoned our reservation. I rarely write reviews on here but sadly we felt it was needed this time. We used to love this place, but the service in particular has gone drastically downhill. We first visited in December 2024, had nobody to greet us and waited 10+ minutes before we were shown to our seats. We placed our orders and then waited over 1 hour 25 minutes before our first plate of food arrived, despite multiple questions to staff and being told repeatedly that our food was “on the way”. When the food arrived, it was delicious, but it still wasn’t worth that wait. The manager spoke to us, apologised and (reluctantly) comped our drinks and desserts. At that point, having had multiple positive experiences here in the past, we thought that it may have been a one-off due to kitchen issues/overbooking etc and left it there. We were also given an envelope containing vouchers to visit in January. We returned in January, intending to use the vouchers, but found out that they were only valid Mon-Thu. This part is our fault, as we hadn’t properly read the small print, but we wouldn’t have returned on a Sunday knowing this. We arrived at 4.20pm for a 4.30pm booking. Again, there was nobody to greet us and we had to seek out a member of staff. The manager (from last time) asked us to wait at the bar and somebody would be over shortly to show us to our seats. Fast forward to 4.55pm and we are eventually given a table. A further 15 minutes passes and we were deliberating leaving, before a waiter finally came over to take our order - by this time it is 5.10pm and a whole 40 minutes after our booking time. We placed the order, making our server aware of the issues we faced last time, because he told us, at this point, that the expected wait time was “around 15-20 minutes”. A few minutes after placing our order, the waiter returns to let us know that they had “run out of chicken” and “the beef is not going to be served rare, but medium well”. We waited 35 minutes for our meal, which is fairly reasonable, but given a “15-20 minute” estimate and the issues we’d already had, we were still a little frustrated in the moment. Bear in mind, we still ate at 5.45pm for a 4.30pm booking. The beef was a little dry and chewy, but the rest of the meal was as good as the previous time. Overall, the food is good enough to save this from being a 1* review, but the service is poor enough that I still wouldn’t recommend coming. We certainly won’t be back!

I was expecting a Great experience for Sunday Lunch Food. 1st, no particular person there to welcome you and show me to our table. Instead, had to go to the bar and ask. Then he said your table is just over there. 2 seats on table tucked away in the corner. 10-15 minutes later, no drinks yet or waiter. Somebody appears and takes the order. We ordered 3 Starters and 2 Beef and Porchetta Roast Sunday Lunches. 1st Starter Deep fried Brie. I thought the Brie would be runny. Very stiff, slightly cold and no taste. The accompaniment of Chutney and green’s was overpowering with apple. 2nd starter Beef Chics. A bit tough not slow cooked enough. 3rd Starter Scallops. They were nice. Main course. Very disappointed. The Red Cabbage had been braised. Maybe with star anise. If not whatever it was. Spoilt the whole main meal. It went into the gravy. The meat was ok. Even if 1 Slice of Beef. The potatoes, cabbage and greens nice. Yorkshire pudding a bit greasy. Pudding 1 scoop vanilla (nice). 1 scoop coffee ice cream( was a bit of a powdery texture). 1 Coffee. Couldn’t drink it coffee had been burnt. Sad experience considering £54.00 a head. The staff at the end did ask what I thought of the meal. But had no comeback from them or the chef. Also whilst eating our sweet. Although dog friendly. A dog with another customer shit on the floor twice in front of us. Sorry, although not necessarily the pubs fault. Was really off putting. A truly delightful found I. Outskirts London for an awesome Sunday roast. The place itself looks unlike London and is a great escape from the hustle bustle within an hour. The food was totally delightful. The starters were already very presentable and definitely scrumptious. The chicken liver pete was very well seasoned with good texture. The deep fried Brie has a slight aroma and a great choice to just open up your tastes buds. The roasted beef was very soft and tender with great parsnips mesh, spectacular and the quality of the pork on the roasted Pritchett was not oily and the crispy pork rind, that is unbeatable. Of course dessert, the apple pear crumble bathed in vanilla custard with very well balanced sweetness and acidity was a super must have. A wonderful place which can surely delivers remarkable memories. Servers were attentive and the ambience with a cool fireplace and window with a view of lake. Surely worth the drive to visit and it is not expensive.

First time visiting here and it’s a beautiful pub and location. Sat outside enjoying the sunshine with a couple of drinks before we went inside for a meal. Lovely inside, good menu and food, staff were friendly and polite...will definitely definitely be returning here a lot.

Lovely pub, good food, excellent choice of real ales on hand pump. Dog friendly. Ample parking, massive garden and other outdoor seating. Filet steak sandwich was amazing, fish finger sandwich was massive!! Good gf options

This is one of the most romantic and beautiful places to have dinner with your partner. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is absolutely delicious, and the staff is both helpful and friendly. Highly recommended, and definitely worth the money. We will be back again soon. Thank you for your exceptional service!

Sunday roast here was excellent. Unfortunately they were very busy and it did take some time to get served. (Need a few more staff on busy days.) however would still return as long as i was not in a rush.

This place has gone downhill. Looks like they are using agency staff that don't have a clue how to serve. Food not bad but could have been better in areas.

This is the 2nd time we've been here although is fair way from where we live but it's worth the drive. The food is great it is a bit more expensive but mostly worth it.I say mostly as on this visit the onion rings were very greasy and the price for the ONE brisket starter I thought was a bit too expensive. Friendly bar & waiting staff & I like the fact service charge is not automatically applied.

The food was awful. Clearly pre prepared, placed in a bowl then microwaved when needed. I had Teryaki Salmon on sticky rice. Hardly any sauce, rice was dry and salmon severely overcooked, infact hard and dry. I ordered a side of green vegetables which were practically raw! Will never eat there again!

My first Curry ever at The Botwell Inn was very nice. The Theakston Old Peculier beer that I choose to go with it was ideal. Great value, I may return.

Despite a misunderstanding, Ellen was gracious enough to manage it - she is a key member of the team and is appreciated

Good food. Service is ok. It allows dogs which is great. Nearest parking is in Chimes mall.
