Good food with quick service and lovely atmosphere!

Really nice food. I'm not a fan of carveries but in the first time in a longgg time it was really nice. Staff are lovely and desserts are brilliant. Would recommend 👌

I recently visited The Old Moat House in Luton and overall had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the breakfast is very affordable and the buffet offers a decent selection. The large car park is definitely a plus and adds to the convenience. However, the facilities are clearly overdue for an upgrade. The place is starting to feel quite tired and neglected, with parts of it looking more like a basic utility facility than a welcoming pub.It’s obvious that investment has been lacking for some time, and unfortunately, this will likely start to drive customers away if not addressed soon. You simply can’t rely on low prices and parking alone — people also expect a comfortable, well-maintained environment. With some much-needed refurbishment, The Old Moat House could really shine again.

Does a great pint, food is always fresh and tasty would reccomend to anyone who wants a great family meal out

Lovely carvery, all freshly and perfectly cooked. Everything looked amazing, and tasted just as good. Staff were awesome and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our visit. They came back during our first course to check and we couldn’t fault anything. Staff were so happy and friendly. A beautiful building as well and the moat is slowly clearing and becoming clearer

Came for lunch with my family and the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent as per usual definitely recommend to anyone for a great carvery. They also do a wide range of other food items if you don't fancy a carvery

Carvery was the only good thing about our visit. Bbq pulled pork burger was awful. Sloppy and tasted like it had been frozen. Would rather eat a microwave burger. Chips were not seasoned at all. Salt and pepper chicken bowl was bland and unedible would only return for carvery.

From Prem all the staff are wonderful very helpful and like a family of friends atmosphere very nice service in the moat house

Love this place, always go to their buffet breakfast whenever we visit. Usually quite quiet and they’re super accommodating for vegetarians! I asked for 4 sausages and got 6!

The food was nice and so was the service.

Eat in Carvery 2 regular and 2 large, charged extra for pigs in blankets that looked and tasted like they were cooked hours before, the mash potatoes were not cooked thoroughly with lumps of raw potato 🤢 management said they are all cooked for the same time 🤷‍♂️had to wait in carvery line for almost 15min just for fresh veg while people in front complained about the plates of meat going dry while waiting bar staff were friendly and drinks were fine

Carvery is ok but everything else is poor. Place feels like an outdated abandoned dinner from the 60s. Service is ok given that there only ever seems to be one chef and one waitress working whenever I’ve been. Unfortunately, without a voucher, the food is overpriced given the poor quality ingredients, so I won’t be going back anymore unless it gets renovated and new owners.

We are regulars for their wonderful carvery, but today we went for a kids pizza party for my kiddos birthday. They were really nice and they bent over backwards to accommodate for dietary requirements of one of our guests. Highly recommended.

The food was dry. The potatoes look like there was burnt when I’ve spoken to the chef, he changed everything. The potatoes were really nice but we had to wait 10 minutes Put the vegetables on the potatoes need rotating every half an hour so they look presentable when a customer comes up overall okay?

Carvery pub in a lovely historic building but surrounded by the very unlovely suburbs of Luton. Good value menu and the place was easily able to accommodate our large cycling group. Five stars if they could move the place to the countryside 😀

Attended with a friend for a carvery, midweek. Chef was friendly, food was fresh and warm, with plenty of choice. Ordered the chocolate brownie for pudding, was told it was being baked fresh and would be another 20 mins! We happily waited, it was the best thing we’ve ever tasted, warm, crunchy, gooey brownie. Our server was super friendly, efficient and kept us in the loop for times and even brought the pudding out to us.

Me and my family ordered a breakfast on Uber eats and it was disgusting to say the least the bacon was burnt, they forgot our mushrooms and everything was thrown into one pot making everything soggy from the beans and tomato’s that had mixed together. When we complained on Uber eats telling them the problem with the food and providing photos of this they told us we wasn’t eligible for a refund so not only did it ruin the family’s breakfast together they couldn’t even give us a refund or bother to answer the phone when we called twice!

Booked table for 20 for family get together. Everything went to plan organised by the fantastic Cora. Food was excellent and a great atmosphere. Everyone had a great experience. Good value for money.

The Old Moat House is a beautiful place, myself and my now wife held our wedding reception here in April last year and couldn't be happier with how the day went. The staff were incredible and nothing was too much trouble and I can only imagine how hard it must have been getting 57 carvery meals out to very hungry people so very well done for doing that successfully. Cora you have been incredible from start to finish we can't thank you enough for all your help, the food is incredible and I truly hope more people discover this venue whether is for events or just to come and eat and have a drink. Thank you to the Moat House for being the icing on the cake to our brilliant day.

Place looks and feels dirty and unwelcoming in desperate need of a revamp

My daughter and I have been here once before for dinner (we usually smash the granny out of the breakfast) - so we popped in again late afternoon, early Saturday evening, and it was peacefully quiet, which is just how I like it. The service was extremely prompt. The food? Top-drawer. The Old Moat House do not mess about when it comes to their burgers. In fact, they are fast becoming my go-to when I'm ravenous. Highly, highly recommended. 👌🏼

Great venue for our Christmas meet. We had some festive and non festive options. Staff were really friendly and attentive even after we left it a bit too late to order teas and coffees. Really took care of us and the food is really good. So impressed with the carvery that it is my go to option.

Ordered a takeaway roast through Uber eats, multiple items missing from large order, food arrived warm, traditional roast without any meat what so ever, Full works with all meats when only selected beef due to dietary requirements, missing gravy, Yorkshire puddings. Called Restaurant and spoke to Chloe to complain, told nothing they can do as it was a large order and chef struggled with the order and to complain via Uber eats and that they wouldn’t send out replacement items. Would not advise anyone to use if a carvery cannot handle large order for 12 people. Despite calling after order was placed to reconfirm that the full works only contained beef and to put names on boxes but obviously this fell on deaf ears!

We used to come to this carvery every weekend when the children were young, some 20-30 years ago, but as life moved on we just got busy and got out of the habit. Hubby still comes in the evening once a week with his friends, so he suggested we come today for a roast! Well I wasn’t disappointed! The food was amazing, but even better the staff were very welcoming, from the lovely friendly front of house team member, to the bar staff, waitressing staff, and the chef serving the food, everyone made us feel special. Thank you Rob and all the team, we will definitely be back to regular visits. Excellent venue for families, couples and the elderly - I watched as a waitress carried an elderly guests dinner to their table. 10 out of 10 all round !

The food was lovely and environment was very clean, but what sets this apart is the service we received from Maria. She couldn't help us enough, taking time to help my elderly Mother and also my children with their ice cream and even somehow got them to eat their veggies before they had one! We watched her cleaning all the tables around us at lightening speed. In a world where good customer service it would make me very happy to know that her hard work and kindness was acknowledged. I will definitely be coming back!

Been here twice now, once with my wife and once with friends. Both times we had the carvery. The place is basically a pub, so offers a great range of drinks. But it's also serious about food and has a regular menu as well as a carvery. The latter is *very* good. Better quality than any Toby I've been to. The meat always seems moist and the variety of veg is better than most Tobys. The only issue was that on both occasions we felt that they could have done with one more member of staff in the kitchen. It took some time for empty vegetable/stuffing to be refilled and the staff seemed hurried. Otherwise, staff were pleasant and polite. The food was yummy. Service was excellent. Definitely reocmmended.

Highly recommend the carvery. 5* The Old Moat house has regained its title as our favourite place for a reasonably priced carvery. We visited today after a year break when our last visit was appalling and food shocking. We thoroughly enjoyed it today. Thank you to the team for great carvery, delicious puddings and service. Good value for money. Food is of good quality. Good choice from menu or carvery. Family friendly which is great when one has children. Definitely returning.

Terrible experience. My guest and I were not told that we were supposed to order at the bar or with the app, so we waited about 30 minutes for someone to come get the order. After being told we had to order for ourselves I scanned the QR code as both my guest and I have invisible disabilities and are unable to to order at the bar. The ordering system kept crashing at payment stage. So we left hungrier than when we came in, appalled at the inexistent customer service and pretty sure we will not come back and are likely to actively tell our friends to not book in any restaurant of this chain.

Ok so I have to say I was surprised that I liked the old moat house. I used to go there years ago and it was a bit cheap cheerful but dull and dingy........ This time however we were greeted well and led to our table which was clean, well laid. The use of the self ordering app is brilliant and meant that we all ordered at the same time. Food was good for a carvery.......a proper Sunday roast just like in the old days. Massive plates to fill up with plenty of meat and vegetables. All well cooked but not over cooked which was good. And in addition to the carvery they also had burgers, chicken wings etc available. All in all an unexpectedly good experience. Well done to everyone at the Old Moat House.

I had lunch with two friends on Saturday. I usually have the carvery & the vegetables, which is always tasty & reasonably priced. There was plenty of seating in an informal & comfortable setting & will recommend the Stonehouse. Lucy was really helpful & attentive, thanks

Nothing beats a good o’ carvery and their roast potato’s are one of the main reasons i end up coming back. They do other stuff like pizzas and burgers which are nice as well. The staff are kind and welcoming especially the chefs near the carvery section. Though the food is nice the building itself could definitely be given some tlc for example fixing the outside bridge and cleaning the water from the moat that goes around the restaurant.

Christmas dinner .. what a joke joke .. food was terrible the service was so so bad .. haven’t wait 45 minutes for the table as it was not ready another 45 minutes to get your dinner ..starters didn’t turn up then they wanted us to wait another 45 minutes for pudding .. I am asking for a full refund .. you don’t expect this kind of food and service on Christmas Day !! .. I think a new manager needs to be put into that place because the woman manager obviously hasn’t got a clue what she’s doing or how to run it … !!!

Save your money and go somewhere better. This venue was booked for our annual Christmas gathering. When we arrived apart from the Christmas decorations the place looked very dated and felt dirty. The whole pub could do with deep clean. I checked in for my table and was told when I was ready to come to the bar and order, even though I had emailed the pre-order, the staff stated they were not aware of this. There was only one till working at the bar and only one bar staff which meant lengthy waits to be served for drinks. There was not a very big choice of ciders or spirits behind the bar. For a Christmas venue, none of the tables had any Christmas settings, no crackers or place settings. After a lengthy wait even having to chase the staff to serve the starters. The presentation for the food was awful, the carvery could have been better, the turkey was dry as was some of the veg, like it had been there some time. One of our colleagues had ordered the fresh pizza and requested olives but was advised they did not have any olives. The Apple pie on the festive menu was not available as they had forgotten to defrost it. All these points were raised to the venue via email after the evening and a response was returned stating they should have better with the standard sorry message. The point is there should be no excuse because from when the booking was confirmed the venue had ample time to organise the evening ready for us. For a Friday night in the middle of December this place was empty, and I could see why. Even the staff didn't feel like they wanted to be there. I wish I had returned back to The Halfway House where there was a real Christmas atmosphere, it felt like a proper Christmas dinner with table place settings and the food was awesome with great presentation.

Was not expecting such a beautiful looking pub, with a great team led by Cora. Home cooked food including pizza & when I see the sign that kids eat for £1 I know it’s a place I want to support. I will defo be back on my travels

The whole visit was lovely I will be coming back next Sunday and bringing more family with me, it's been awhile since I have enjoyed my Sunday roast. Please visit you will not be disappointed and price is also very good.

We descended on the team with a party of 35 Christmas revellers and they really looked after us. The food was absolutely gorgeous and they did their best with a reduced staff!

The service was fantastic, they were very bubbly and entertained our rather cheeky friend. The food was very nice and was a great price. The service was great as-well. Thoroughly recommend for a works do, family meal or special occasions.

Came to Moat House as indicated and was very disappointed that the bridge leading into the moat house from the car park is stiil after more than a year in a state of disrepair. What a shame that there is no committment to repairing such a good place to eat, drink and socialise. Is difficult to recommend thsi venue as it stands. The food was very good.

Ordered the carvery .. hardly any turkey on mine and my friends plate. The vegetables were over cooked and watery. The carvery was cold to eat wasn't even warm. Very disappointed 😞 27th November 24

Don't go on a Monday evening! The meat was delicious (roast pork & roast beef)... HOWEVER!! the roast potatoes must have been whatever was left over from Sunday... shrivelled & dried up like walnuts.... when I did eventually manage to crack into them, all the potatoe that was once inside had shrivelled up & disappeared... the stuffing, peas & carrots were no better... even trying to drown it in gravy did not manage to revive my dinner. On a side note, it is sooooo dark inside... not sure if that's in an effort to create a "cosy" ambience, or to hide a tired & dated place.... SUPER DISAPPOINTED!!

We really did love the food and the venue. The only thing which let things down a teeny bit was we ask thought a little bit more attention to attending to customers in the restaurant would have been good. Nearly all the tables had finished their plates and none of them got cleared. We just all had to put them on an empty table. The food quality was really good & hot and all my guests said so. Just a small thing to work on and it would have been a higher rating. We'll come back and try again because of the food!
