The Old Moat House in Luton

Great venue for our Christmas meet. We had some festive and non festive options. Staff were really friendly and attentive even after we left it a bit too late to order teas and coffees. Really took care of us and the food is really good. So impressed with the carvery that it is my go to option.

Tara was really helpful and friendly. Sandwich was amazing and made to perfection. Service was spot on, place was clean and fire on to welcome you as you come in. Highly recommend

We used to come to this carvery every weekend when the children were young, some 20-30 years ago, but as life moved on we just got busy and got out of the habit. Hubby still comes in the evening once a week with his friends, so he suggested we come today for a roast! Well I wasn’t disappointed! The food was amazing, but even better the staff were very welcoming, from the lovely friendly front of house team member, to the bar staff, waitressing staff, and the chef serving the food, everyone made us feel special. Thank you Rob and all the team, we will definitely be back to regular visits. Excellent venue for families, couples and the elderly - I watched as a waitress carried an elderly guests dinner to their table. 10 out of 10 all round !

Been here twice now, once with my wife and once with friends. Both times we had the carvery. The place is basically a pub, so offers a great range of drinks. But it's also serious about food and has a regular menu as well as a carvery. The latter is *very* good. Better quality than any Toby I've been to. The meat always seems moist and the variety of veg is better than most Tobys. The only issue was that on both occasions we felt that they could have done with one more member of staff in the kitchen. It took some time for empty vegetable/stuffing to be refilled and the staff seemed hurried. Otherwise, staff were pleasant and polite. The food was yummy. Service was excellent. Definitely reocmmended.

Terrible experience. My guest and I were not told that we were supposed to order at the bar or with the app, so we waited about 30 minutes for someone to come get the order. After being told we had to order for ourselves I scanned the QR code as both my guest and I have invisible disabilities and are unable to to order at the bar. The ordering system kept crashing at payment stage. So we left hungrier than when we came in, appalled at the inexistent customer service and pretty sure we will not come back and are likely to actively tell our friends to not book in any restaurant of this chain.

Leon - the chef provided great service, knowing exactly what I could and could NOT munch. He was happy to repeat info and clearly cared about the food - portions and quality. Cheers pallywal! Charlotte was today’s bar lady. She knew everything- including (joining Leon) to inform me that the gluten free gravy needs to be made specially, and just requires notice. It was excellent. I haven’t eaten gravy for years, so a treat. Tasty food, excellent portions and fantastic staff! Will DEFO return 😁

Ok so I have to say I was surprised that I liked the old moat house. I used to go there years ago and it was a bit cheap cheerful but dull and dingy........ This time however we were greeted well and led to our table which was clean, well laid. The use of the self ordering app is brilliant and meant that we all ordered at the same time. Food was good for a carvery.......a proper Sunday roast just like in the old days. Massive plates to fill up with plenty of meat and vegetables. All well cooked but not over cooked which was good. And in addition to the carvery they also had burgers, chicken wings etc available. All in all an unexpectedly good experience. Well done to everyone at the Old Moat House.

Amazing food and brilliant food . Went for the buffet breakfast waa kindly welcomed by martin who eas very polite and helpful and the food was fresh and delicious.

I had lunch with two friends on Saturday. I usually have the carvery & the vegetables, which is always tasty & reasonably priced. There was plenty of seating in an informal & comfortable setting & will recommend the Stonehouse. Lucy was really helpful & attentive, thanks

Nothing beats a good o’ carvery and their roast potato’s are one of the main reasons i end up coming back. They do other stuff like pizzas and burgers which are nice as well. The staff are kind and welcoming especially the chefs near the carvery section. Though the food is nice the building itself could definitely be given some tlc for example fixing the outside bridge and cleaning the water from the moat that goes around the restaurant.

Christmas dinner .. what a joke joke .. food was terrible the service was so so bad .. haven’t wait 45 minutes for the table as it was not ready another 45 minutes to get your dinner ..starters didn’t turn up then they wanted us to wait another 45 minutes for pudding .. I am asking for a full refund .. you don’t expect this kind of food and service on Christmas Day !! .. I think a new manager needs to be put into that place because the woman manager obviously hasn’t got a clue what she’s doing or how to run it … !!!

Save your money and go somewhere better. This venue was booked for our annual Christmas gathering. When we arrived apart from the Christmas decorations the place looked very dated and felt dirty. The whole pub could do with deep clean. I checked in for my table and was told when I was ready to come to the bar and order, even though I had emailed the pre-order, the staff stated they were not aware of this. There was only one till working at the bar and only one bar staff which meant lengthy waits to be served for drinks. There was not a very big choice of ciders or spirits behind the bar. For a Christmas venue, none of the tables had any Christmas settings, no crackers or place settings. After a lengthy wait even having to chase the staff to serve the starters. The presentation for the food was awful, the carvery could have been better, the turkey was dry as was some of the veg, like it had been there some time. One of our colleagues had ordered the fresh pizza and requested olives but was advised they did not have any olives. The Apple pie on the festive menu was not available as they had forgotten to defrost it. All these points were raised to the venue via email after the evening and a response was returned stating they should have better with the standard sorry message. The point is there should be no excuse because from when the booking was confirmed the venue had ample time to organise the evening ready for us. For a Friday night in the middle of December this place was empty, and I could see why. Even the staff didn't feel like they wanted to be there. I wish I had returned back to The Halfway House where there was a real Christmas atmosphere, it felt like a proper Christmas dinner with table place settings and the food was awesome with great presentation.

Was not expecting such a beautiful looking pub, with a great team led by Cora. Home cooked food including pizza & when I see the sign that kids eat for £1 I know it’s a place I want to support. I will defo be back on my travels

The whole visit was lovely I will be coming back next Sunday and bringing more family with me, it's been awhile since I have enjoyed my Sunday roast. Please visit you will not be disappointed and price is also very good.

We descended on the team with a party of 35 Christmas revellers and they really looked after us. The food was absolutely gorgeous and they did their best with a reduced staff!

Warm, Friendly and joy filled vibes! They put a smile on our faces even our kids when they are down everyone has a laugh! The food is really scrummy! The chefs know there stuff when it comes to food

Came to Moat House as indicated and was very disappointed that the bridge leading into the moat house from the car park is stiil after more than a year in a state of disrepair. What a shame that there is no committment to repairing such a good place to eat, drink and socialise. Is difficult to recommend thsi venue as it stands. The food was very good.

The food standard has definitely increased. Don't know if they have a new chef but the carvery was so much better in comparison to the other times I've eaten here. Keep it up guys.

Ordered the carvery .. hardly any turkey on mine and my friends plate. The vegetables were over cooked and watery. The carvery was cold to eat wasn't even warm. Very disappointed 😞 27th November 24

Super-friendly staff and really good food (fresh, hot and plenty of choice) highly recommend the carvery. Great value for money. However, don't dress up too warm, the premises was far too hot.

Don't go on a Monday evening! The meat was delicious (roast pork & roast beef)... HOWEVER!! the roast potatoes must have been whatever was left over from Sunday... shrivelled & dried up like walnuts.... when I did eventually manage to crack into them, all the potatoe that was once inside had shrivelled up & disappeared... the stuffing, peas & carrots were no better... even trying to drown it in gravy did not manage to revive my dinner. On a side note, it is sooooo dark inside... not sure if that's in an effort to create a "cosy" ambience, or to hide a tired & dated place.... SUPER DISAPPOINTED!!

We really did love the food and the venue. The only thing which let things down a teeny bit was we ask thought a little bit more attention to attending to customers in the restaurant would have been good. Nearly all the tables had finished their plates and none of them got cleared. We just all had to put them on an empty table. The food quality was really good & hot and all my guests said so. Just a small thing to work on and it would have been a higher rating. We'll come back and try again because of the food!

Visited here many times for main meals and also buffet breakfast on occasions. This is in my opinion one of the better carverys I have visited. I find it a well managed establishment where all the staff seem friendly well mannered and on the ball. The manager and team on Saturday were extremely helpful when my young daughter fancied ice cream during breakfast serving times and despite the machine not being on yet, went the extra mile to meet her request so thank you ladies, you know who you are! ☺️ The food is of a quality you might expect from much higher priced restaurants and there is quite a variety of choice other than carvery on the menu. The desserts are also quite tempting if you still have room! Over all this restaurant is a clean relaxed and cozy environment which I recommend whole heartedly to others. M

As a party of 6, we had a lovely meal and a warm welcome from the staff. One of our party was very old and on occasion came across rude. Your member of staff called” Chloe ” was amazing with her. Chloe was helpful and always pleasant. We will definitely be returning. A*

As a coeliac it can be a nightmare eating out but the team made so much effort to ensure my carvery was gluten free. They made me separate veg and gravy and took all precautions. Thanks to Cora the Chef ensuring I had a great meal!

I have been going regular for brekkie over the last month ,carvery on a Sunday and some mid week meals....can't fault it .the staff are always obliging, friendly. it's great to see the fire 🔥 roaring this time of year in 1976 The Moat House was my local owned by Bill Creasy,he ran a great ship....I have held my 18th 21st and 60th birthdays at The Old Moat House. obviously places change,but I love the way it is now.well done all the staff.

Lovely lunch where two courses for 11.99 each were very nice with burger in bun with potato tots were served ( like mini potato croquets) part of a changed menu. They were moreish and possibly will be very popular. We haven't eaten there for many years due to 4 or 5 moves . We ate there. for our 44wedding anniversary meal , but will eat more often now. Thank you Charlotte for making all of it possible .we won't leave it so long next time. Del and Sandi x

Old Luton pub, it is a bit tired now, needs upgrading. Probably got a preservation order on it. Probably best in the summer time. Food was fine.

I held a stag party murder mystery evening for my brother and his friends and the venue was perfect! The buffet was on time, hot, well presented the staff were helpful and really made the evening exceptional! Honestly everyone had an amazing time due to the manager and staff being so quick and on point all evening for any needs.

I come here on a regular bases as the vibe is so chill and the food is fantastic. The staff go above and beyond for there customers especially a lady (Cora ) she was an absolute gem when we came this Sunday and there wasn’t any tables available but she shifted what should could round so we could still seat and eat .. thank you Cora you made my Sunday. Highly recommended

Lovely hot buffet breakfast. All you can ear for a very reasonable price, no l I mit to how much you can have. Fabulous staff, very friendly and helpful for new comers to their business.

Come here every Saturday for breakfast with the family. Being able to choose what you want from the breakfast items is so handy.....especially with fussy kids! Cora and the team make us feel so welcome, with a smile and a bit of a chat to see how we are. We make an event of it, bringing family games to keep us entertained.....and the staff sometimes join in too for the odd trivia question! Often visit for the Carvery, which is also great. Keep up the welcoming atmosphere guys!

Purchased 4 carvery's on too good to go. Travelled 20 mins each way to collect it. My collection time was 21.00 - 21.30 and I arrived at 21.05 to be told that my order has been cancelled and they have thrown all the food away as cleaning the kitchen. A complete was of time and u professional.

Its old and knackered and needs repairing beyond its capabilities but the food is always fresh, on point and replenished often. Its carvery is its famous dish and the meat is the softest, tastiest around. Toby carvery would be ashamed if they visited and found how well they do their carvery here. Staff are lovely too and know all their locals. Great place for the family to come. You can feed the ducks outside in the moat too.

The manager was amazing she was very kind and managed to find somewhere to sit as the 3 of us hadn't booked a table as it was a last minute decision. The staff were super but the manager who was incredibly busy all the time was a very good example.
