Cora and the team make us feel so welcome, with a smile and a bit of a chat to see how we are. Its old and knackered and needs repairing beyond its capabilities but the food is always fresh, on point and replenished often. We went to the moathouse on Saturday lunchtime, I had booked a table for 7 people. On arrival we waited to be seated to be shouted at from the barman behind the bar to find a table no niceties just a shout. We ordered the food via the app- very odd that you can add a tip for the staff before you receive any kind of service from staff of which there was very VERY little interaction or interest from the staff in what they were doing. Drinks were delivered with a grunt, from the lady. 7 meals in total 2 came out followed by a 10 minutes wait for a pizza for my children. At this point the other 3 of us went to get our carvery. The pub was near empty and I can totally understand why. Carvery was ok uncooked veggies( rock hard cauliflower), scampi ok and veggie option of scampi rather rubbish with bread you could have used to soul your shoe it was that stale and hard. Glad we did not bother with a tip online as there was no service worth tipping.

Several days ago I arrived to collect my too good to go bag (I had booked 3 bags) and was told that the restaurant had no food left. I took time and drove to the restaurant so would have liked some advance notice (at least an hour before collection time) as I left the restaurant empty handed. I also have nothing to eat for dinner now. I wasn’t offered any gesture of good will as a compensation for my time and the inconvenience and would appreciate if the restaurant could get in touch with me to set this right. I appreciate it’s a very busy working environment so it’s understandable and I don’t want any individual staff to be reprimanded for this, but hope that the restaurant can make some improvements to avoid this happening in the future. Also when I returned several days later to collect a roast carvery bag, it had sausages instead of actual carved meat which was disappointing. In a carvery I would expect to get carved turkey, beef or pork, rather than sausages. Thank you

It’s such a shame as a nice clean place, some of the staff could do with clean uniforms. Felt sorry for the poor chef out front, seems to be run ragged as other staff no properly trained. Young lad trying to fill in couldn’t cut meat so big queue formed, chef returned to speed things up, but all veg dishes were either empty or dried up, not a Yorkshire in sight. Roast potatoes were like bullets, I’m sure if you threw it at someone it would have knocked them out, rest was just a mess of dried up food. Ordered desserts, waited absolutely ages, had to ask man we paid as to where they were, not sure who was to blame as it could have been that he didn’t order them. Place inside was clean and tidy, but outside needs a good tidy up, certainly not inviting for drive past diners. Only good thing was how they reacted to an older couple who where out to dinner, they were very helpful and on the ball with carrying his plates etc due to age and disability. Such a shame to let it demise due to lack of leadership and input. More staff needed to help carvery chef as this is what draws people in

I’ve been going here ever since I was a young little rat and I have to say that everytime I come here with family I have a pleasant time. My favourite part was looking at the big fishes in the water while standing in the bridge , however it’s been blocked off and the water has turned a a lifeless murky green. One warning though. Don’t come to breakfast. Could just be the one time I went but one time they had no eggs ? That’s what makes the breakfast? Was a little disappointed . The carvery is absolutely lovely though I have nothing bad to say about it . They sometimes lack on popular food choices like pizzas and burgers but it’s a good cozy pub to go to with family or with your mates .The pizza is the best though 10/10 reccomend i dont know what they put in there 👍🏼

This pub what an amazing venue the look of the place is so nice and rustic. Now for why it's a 2 star ordered 4 carverys a sharing combo and a pasta dish with mash potatoes. Now on the menu it's says with the ultimate combo wash down with a cold beer sounds lovely . Once the food was ordered I was asked would I like a drink I wanted to change the cold beer for a Guiness to then get a look from the barmaid of almost disgust to think that my meal would cone with a drink again wash down with beer the only thing I seen on the menu that had this what she said was a suggestion but no other suggestions on the menu. Got the Guinness was the best part of the meal. The meat from the carvery was dry, tough and full of grizzle the mash was lumpy and by most not able to be eaten. Orderd a Pepsi that was so sugary when i went to ask for another drink was given a look as much as how dare i. When my ultimate combo did cone is was missing the nachos with was then added the girl serving at the tables was very accommodating with the food.as it turned out I got a toothache and was unable to eat so bought it hone with with me to only discover today that 2 of the chicken wings still had feathers on them (not to appetising.) Before leaving bought a drink and another Guinness as it was so good maybe the best I have tasted out side of ireland so there's a positive and the reason for 1 of the stars the lady at the bar rang up my drinks and said £9 something not sure but it didn't come up on the machine fie me to rap my card when she came back from getting my Guinness I told her this so she rang it up again and this time it came up to £11.15 didn't even question it as had enough by this point. Also heard the first var msid talking about some obe was complaining the Pepsi was to sweet obviously aimed at me not great customer service. Maybe this needs working on. Over all the building is amazing improvement on the food needed and 100% with the staff this place has so much potential it's a same it is the way it was when I visited. Looking forward to the response

Three big joints of meat carved in front of you, with a choice of veg and potatoes; take as much or as little as you want. They also hand throw pizzas, but don't order them if you're really hungry, as they take a while to cook properly. The building is lovely tho the thatch could do with a little love, and the moat does need dredging, cleaning and flowing water to finish the look and bring wildlife back; possible community project?

When we first got there, we didn't get anyone to welcome us. We stood by the door for a few minutes then we heard someone say go in and sit anywhere you like. We got in sat down and noone came to see if we needed any help. My husband ended up getting to go check at the bar if we could place our orders. Our food finally came after waiting for some time. Unfortunately they didn't bring a plate for my daughter. She started eating off my plate as she was very hungry. We tried looking to see if there was a waitress who could assist us, the one that was closeby didn't even bother to look our way. Eventually we finally got another waitress to help and told her about my daughter's food and we were told the chef didn't read the order well. Also we weren't given or offered any sauces to go with our food (we ordered burgers and chips), I had to ask the waitress for some. The burgers were very dry, I needed juice to help me swallow them. My daughter's food came but her chips were undercooked and her nuggets were dry too. We ended up just forcing ourselves to eat the food as we were very hungry. We head back home afterwards with our desert. It was my first time here and have been longing to go out. I don't know if Groupon clients are treated differently from full paying clients? It was just the worst service overall, I don't think I'll ever come back or recommend this place to anyone.

Take no notice of the pictures on their web site this is not representive the actual place itself. At first glance on the webiste it looks like a quaint well kept almost immaculate thatched village country pub....THAT.... it is not ! The Old Moat House is situated in the middle of a housing estate where there are old matresses (not just one, but several) laying around on the streets with rubbish strewn everywhere. On arrivel the pub frontage was surrounded with building site style metal harris fencing, directing you to a side footpath to the entrance, as the maion path to the door is closed off. You walk over a foot bridge crossing a river that is part of the pub site. Lying in the actual river itself in ful view is an old beer barrel with other large bits of rubbish, as well as piles of rubbish lying around the car park area. Not a very pleasant sight to see on arrival other than a very tired, worn out looking building and very untidy surroundings that resemble a fly tip/rubbish dump. My wife was apprihensive as we got there wondering what sort of a place we had arrived at, but as seen as we had driven for 20 miles on the premise of their webiste and the web site photos we would give it a go. The pub inside is tired and very dated however the staff are pleasant & friendly enough. But the Sunday afternoon carvery was a big dissapoitment as they had run out of roast potatoes at the most crucial time of day and the most crucial day of the week (Sunday 5.30pm) We had been told they would take 25 minutes but when we asked realistically how long we where then told around 30/45, which really means 1 hour+. I decided to take a look at the carvery serving area to see if that could persuade me to wait, but it actually looked like a bomb had gone off. Chunks of discarded meat lying all over the carving area, the veg pots were all as good as empty, and the gravy dishes half to near empty had dried up slops of gravy spilling all over them. I know people serve themselfs at these places and can make a mess but it doesnt hurt to keep one memeber of kitchen staff on housekkeping duties of the serving area to keep it tidy for the next lot of people coming in to eat. there just wasnt any sense of pride in the place, and especially the food serving area where that should be important maintaining a level of tidyness and cleanliness. Despite our table booking for 5.30-6.30pm as you are given an hour slot with online bookings, and having a person with us with severe learning disabilities that relies on a daily routine/schedule we had to decline the table booking and leave to try and find another place to eat, which thank fully we did. (The Market Cross Dunstable 5*****) I cannot comment on the standard of the food as we didnt get to taste it, and I very much doubt we will ever return. The only good thing that did come of our wasted journey to this establishment that we got to find an alternative & decent place to eat we hadnt been to before.

I've not experienced the full offerings as yet but what I have deserves the rating. Anymore visits and I'm sure this rating will increase

We met as a group of 10, on what was a super busy night, with 3 other large parties in at the same time. This meant it was extremely loud as there were also kids running around the restaurant being quite loud and it was difficult to chat, and quite cramped for space. But the staff were still polite and friendly and although the food took a little while to come out, it was plentiful, fresh, tasty and hot!

If you like to walk, then you will like the location. We had to do an overnight and stayed here. It’s a 15 minute walk from the Luton Airport. The path is lighted up and easy to do at any time of the day. However, if you are carrying lots of luggage, the walk can be terrible. A taxi from the airport to the hotel is 20 pounds and the hotel does not offer shuttle which is odd for an airport hotel. Staff at the hotel were welcoming and check-in was easy. The hotel is outdated with old rugs and lighting. The room is mini. Like when I walked in, I felt I was in a Barbie doll house but without the colors. Super small with two super small beds stuck together in a space that you can barely move. For an overnight I would do it again since the price was low but for an extended stay it would be a terrible idea. Also, if you are a light sleeper just be aware that you hear many airplanes ✈️

Good experience as usual. Shame about the large price increase for Pizzas and still no option of Brown or Wholemeal Bread
