It is always nice here at Mexborough it has great customer service, especially by Trish she always helpful and friendly

A close friend hails from Mexborough and we were told to visit The Market Hall for our traditional morning feed. It's a 'Spoons and so we already knew what we'd be getting and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and the breakfast was very nicely cooked. The restored building was a joy to sit in and it's very comfortable indeed. Being there at opening and with the pub very quiet undoubtedly helped. A very nice breakfast and absolutely no complaints from us at all. Recommended.

Absolutely loved our server. And they had great prices as well a nice selection (plus unlimited refills of coffees, teas, and hot chocolate).

In all honesty we were starting to lose our faith in Wetherspoons, having eaten there for years, due to the quality of food and prices in recent visits to a range of restaurants. However, this restaurant was clean when we arrived with a really nice atmosphere. We ordered via the app and our drinks arrived promptly followed by our food. The quality of the food was very good and as always reasonably priced. The staff were excellent as the waitress was very polite and helpful and the manager, although clearly very busy, came across to check that our food was ok Do you have a quick himself was clearly working exceptionally hard, and this was sure the reason why the restaurant was functioning. So well, there were no dirty tables and food was coming out thick and fast.

Good food, nice, cheap and quick init, nice lad called olliver tried to rob me outside dough, so that was a slight down

Once again the meal was not hot, this time the fish was barely warm. As we had been waiting a long time for it we did not have time to ask them to cook us a hot meal!!!! This has happened a few times. When the meals are hot they are nice but nobody wants a cold one.

Whatever your feelings are on Tim Martin he knows how to make good use of former buildings. The Old Market hall in Mexborough is a great example of this. I went there with family for breakfast and we arrived before 10am and it was quite busy. Even though this was the case we did not have long to wait for our breakfasts which were tasty. The staff did a check back to make sure we had everything we needed. The only disappointment was that the toilets were a bit grotty.

I wanted a nice pint so I thought I would pop to this Wetherspoons as I was passing with my smaller sized dog. I did not see the sign that no dogs was aloud before I ordered 2 pints of larger. Then a staff member came and stood next to our table with his jacket on smoking. He said that your not aloud dogs out here and I asked him what the reason is? He said because when people are eating they don’t want dogs around their food. As he was smoking in a no smoking area I guess it’s ok for people to be surrounded by smoke while their eating right? He then said they will ask you to leave. My drinks came and the lady did say that I was not aloud dog but I then questioned about the staff member smoking when there is a non smoking sign? She did not know what to say as I was right. I don’t mind and I would’ve left but I thought it was wrong that it was one rule for one and then on the rule for another.

Not busy when we visited on a Wednesday lunchtime. Scanned the NHS app as we entered and were told we could sit anywhere. Inside or out. Ordered the jacket potato and BBQ chicken melt. The chicken was over cooked. Couldn’t fault the service or the price though.

Wasn’t the best , ordered food and drinks with a waitress, food came out before drinks. Ordered a coffee and wasn’t told we had to go and serve ourselves (didn’t think we would be allowed with Covid). Was sat near a door which had to be kept open due to Covid procedures so was freezing and constant cigarette fumes coming in ,Which wasn’t ideal with 2 young children.

Visited Monday after work for some tea, sat down. Filled in the track & trace. Proceeded to order from the app. Ordered drinks whilst we decided what to eat. All going well. Till this Black haired, thick bearded staff member walks over. Demanding ID or we get out, 3 of the party proceeded to get their ID out & I politely asked. Do I need ID if I’m having a soft drink. To which we responded by shouting get out the premises. (Mine was in the car. But thought I would ask to save a trip to the car) My partner said fine we will have a refund we’re not getting spoken to like that. To which the staff member not even a manager shouted your not having one. Get out Absolute vile, jumped up human being. I have ever met No wonder the place is practically dead ! We got a refund after complaining to the manager

Lovely to see familiar faces amongst the staff at our local Wetherspoons. Since reopening, all staff have been welcoming, helpful with the new rules whilst visiting and give us every confidence to sit and enjoy a pint. Whilst this is one of a huge chain of establishments, Anthony, our barman, makes this feel truly a 'local' givng us the lowdown on the forthcoming beers (great for CAMRA members) and the odd sample to tempt us to try beverages we wouldn't otherwise try. Well done Wetherspoons, Mexborough.

Brilliant choice, excellent value for money and super friendly staff. Like all weatherspoons provides a perfect ambience with value for money. The building is very impressive with plenty of tables and interesting local touches.

Called in for the skinny steak for lunch. Worst steak I have had. A third of it was fat and gristle. There was little seasoning and ordered rare but got medium. Manager took it to wrong table and tried saying I had ordered it to the wrong table even though the drink came to the right one and the receipt showed she was in the wrong. Second time this has happened with same manager.

Very disappointed tonight. I ordered lasagne with a side of garlic bread. Meal came as did bread. Crispy and sprinkled with rosemary it looked nice. Didn't taste it. No garlic whatsoever. Waiter took it back and came back some time layer with a replacement. Flacid, pale and had a very odd taste. Waiter came back to check and I said it wasn't right to which it was taken away and a free drink offered with money back for bread. Manager came but wasn't that professional. Waiters were very good and dealt with the issue well. We have been visiting spoons for some years on and off and found this visit very disappointing. I think this visit sadly may be our last for some time if indeed we do return. I feel the place needs a good clean as the seating is stained and is off putting to sit on.

Regular customers at spoons mexborough. The staff, food, service, drinks, value and atmosphere are all A*. Been in this weekend and either the heating is broken or not turned on. Don’t expect summer temperatures but shouldn’t have to sit inside wearing 3 layers and an overcoat. It’s down to 5 degrees outside so will be interesting when the real winter arrives.

We regularly visit this pub before returning home after our 'downtown' shopping. For a couple of weeks, it was tricky to get anywhere near the bar due 1) lack of bar staff , 2) Race Week, 3) an impromptu busload of away-football supporters; however, this Wetherspoons have now ensured sufficient staff so it's now time to be more supportive of a great community asset. Firstly, one regular barman is quite happy to indulge my hubby with his real ale served in a dimple glass - always a plus. Secondly, the recent Real Ale Festival was a feast to CAMRA members' eyes - we only hope that this has fired the enthusiasm of the beer buyer's repertoire as we had noticed that the selection of varied microbreweries had become a little 'samey' prior to this event. Lastly, the young waitress, who often works on a Saturday, ensures meals are served as quickly as is possible (really admire her energy).The only reason why I haven't given 5 stars on this occasion is that this is a pub foremost (not a restaurant as quoted on Tripadvisor).

Was a regular at Wetherspoons but really dissapointed specials meal days have finished. If we want the same meals we used to have, this can be approx £3 more expensive now. Time to start looking elsewhere !

What is great place for a family get-together great environment and lovely staff. Spent a lot of time here over the last few years and have never been disappointed.

the food there was okay at best, However the STATE of the TOILET facilities were absolutely vile, They made me want to throw up my recently consumed meal, But remember to bring some WELLIES to the toilets because you are going to be knee deep in piss

Went here tonight with friends, they have taken the specials menu off . (Around 3 weeks ago I was told ) . Unsure why as they was good value meals . The place was a lot quieter tonight than our previous visits . Could this be a reflection of the specials been taken off . There food wasn’t upto scratch tonight . When your paying extra it should be spot on . I had southern fried chicken strips , no taste of southern fried at all . And the chicken was really chewy . I had to leave most of the chicken . Had a desert and these have shrunk in size . Won’t be returning !!

Above average Wetherspoons. Good building, interesting decor. Fairly busy, but good, quick service by friendly staff. Great value for money. Worth a visit

Just eaten at this establishment, there are more flies inside the pub than outside, we were constantly having to waft them away, we had to ask for the table to be wiped as it was sticky and full of crumbs, on the other hand the service was very good !!don't think we'll be back tho ☹

Always pop in before travelling anywhere with friends as it’s close to the train station, is cheap & a good location for meeting up. Good service, great breakfast options.

Usual great Wetherspoons experience - food and drink at great prices and friendly atmosphere all day long

Went for two steaks, one was fine but the other was inedible, like chewing on rubber. The one person serving food was clueless and went to fetch someone but didn’t come back. To make it worse, two pints of Doom Bar were as flat as a f***. We’ll be voting with our feet and not returning, if you can’t be bothered neither can we. Poor show from what is usually a decent pub.

Unfortunately it's not just this wetherspoons in Mexborough, I've found it in many others, the hot breakfasts served cold I don't how long they are ready for for but on more than 1 occasion myself and my partner have been given cold or very like warm meals. I can understand if it was busy but this is the morning with not many people in the place, this particular venue this very day the staff were rather unpleasant as if they got out of wrong side of the bed.

As with any other wetherspoons food average, nice building but lots of tables full of dirty plates and glasses waiti g to ve ckearec away

We visit every week and either have food & drink or just drink. The quality of the beer can vary-(real ale), if there are any issues the beer is exchanged without question. Normally a couple of the pale ales in so that more than satisfies me!

Had a decent steak at a decent price when taking into account a drink is also included in the price.

Food is worth its money. Cheap and cheerful. Hard for access for disabled. Only one disabled parking bay. Not a big car park at all. Love the seating bays. Nice old furniture and bar x

Many years of coming here with the wife or full family on my days off as a treat for the time you cant be bothered to cook..

Not very impressed with the food. I suppose the phrase of you get what you pay for is spot on here. It's cheap and cheerful, staff are friendly, but the food standard is what lets it down.

Good quality food at a great price with free refils of coffee what more could you want from £7. Staff are friendly and don’t mind going the extra mile to make sure your dining experience is acceptable. This isn’t fine dining but it is good dining and real value for money. Perhaps the decor could do with an update as this particular Wetherspoons was opened many years ago but that’s just a minor gripe and doesn’t detract from the experience at all. You could do a lot worse than spend an hour or two at this venue

Bacon like rubber,egg cold and runny and mushroom like old leather. Refillable coffee was great but breakfast a big no no this time..three separate occasions visited and no eggs benedict.. dissapointed...

Has a lovely meal at this establishment we had the chicken deal, very good value including drink, staff were ok and very pleasant. Although the place was very busy our meals came out quite quickly .

We visit on a regular basis, never disappointing food always hot fresh, fast, Staff always friendly and helpful, sometimes a little sweep of the floor and the tables wiped.

We visit this Wetherspoons regular. Never had any issues with food or drink. Good value for money. This Wetherspoons is good to visit for a meal or for a drink.

Eight of us visited Market tonight for a social get-together, mainly due to satisfaction in the past. Always value for money, none more so than on steak night (Tuesdays). Tonight was as good as it gets, whether people had the 8oz sirloin or the 14oz special. Unbelievable quality at this price; 2 meals plus 2 pints of quality real ale, served by courteous staff who always put the customers first. Can't recommend it enough. Not haute cuisine, maybe not for that special occasion, but still hard to beat. Everyone in agreement we'd go again, as we have several times in the past. Big thanks to all the staff at the Market. It's definitely one of the best Wetherspoons in the area, if not Yorkshire. We'll be back soon. Price isn't everything, but 2 meals and drinks for less than £18 take's some beating.

Great steak special on a Tuesday.. I always take the opportunity to go when not working . 6oz sirloin and option of jacket or chips etc .. around 6.99 I believe. Including a drink alcoholic or non. I had a pink gin n tonic included in with the price . Can't be beaten ! Only thing that I will mention ( and this will prob depend on chef at the time) I asked for my steak well done and it came just about medium and heard another couple on the next table saying the very same thing.! So mite be worth mentioning again on order ( for those that don't like pink meat!) However very tasty , no complaints.. and the staff are really lovely ! Shout out to Matthew who helped me sort out my internet connection troubles while there ! Great service. Worth a visit ,

We visited for our breakfasts, traditional full English, no complaints, plenty on plate, good value for money. We also took advantage of the refillable hot drinks. Also great value with plenty of options.

Ordered Christmas lunch then when it arrived noticed there were no sprouts on the meal , my mistake ,the content of the meal was stated on the menu, but Christmas lunch without sprouts....!

It’s a typical Wetherspoons pub, but it’s spacious, light and well kept. The only downside is, considering the length of the bar, the staff occasionally group together at one end of the bar, it would be better practice to give individual staff one area of the bar that they stick to! Other than that, I can’t fault the place.

me and my mum come in to order some food I got a burger and chips and my mum got the mixed grill...we had noticed the size the of the meals had got smaller i got about 10 chips with my burger and I asked for the mix grill to be well done and it was still pink in middle....we use to like going... but its gone down hill next time ill pop in it ull just be for a drink

Like Wetherspoons cheap but good quality and portions are okay. Plenty of tea and coffee but Monday is a no no as no choice on offer menu worked out expensive for meal.

When I went to the gents toilets at whetherspoons there was evidence of urination. On the floor and the smell was vile

You cannot get served in this pub. It isn’t a first come first serve basis. Three bar staff of and 30 min food wait. Took 25 mins to get a drink in this place. Food is great however when it finally gets to you. So you can come here but don’t come if your really hungry as the wait time is terrible. People push in and no common courtesy!!

I would like to start by saying I’m a regular customer, I come in around 3 times a week, each time I order food and have a few drinks. As you can appricate I spend a lot of money here. Today me and my friend come in (for the third time this week) a young woman called Bethan was rude,impolite and nasty towards me and my friend. She stated that she’s was the ‘manager’ many of times to get her point across that she was ‘incontrol’ I asked for a alcoholic drink for me and my friend-then she asked for our ID, which is completely fine the young gentleman knew us and yet he still asks (we understand there doing their job) but then for the woman to refuse to serve my friend in a abrupt way, say she looks nothing like the id and she wouldnt look back through the CCTV to show we’d been in the previous day. My friend had all forms of ID but yet she still wouldn’t back down. I feel like she wanted to state the power she has and this is not acceptable. I am not willing to come in and spend a lot of my money to be spoke to in a degrading way I expected more from a ‘manager’ safe to say I will not be returning to this put again and I think that that staff need leading how to communicate with eachother let alone the rest of us.

We visit Mexborough Wetherspoons weekly and usually enjoy our meals. But lately im having to ask for a wet cloth to wipe the table and clean the mess up. Today it was only 11am so I wouldn’t have expected it to be so messy.

Had a traditional brekkie lovely everything cooked to perfection. Staff nice good service. Very good quality for the money. Added bonus buy tea or coffee and refill as many times as you want.

Called here for a coffee to meet up with family , a great bar . It has a lift up the stairs for disabled people giving you access to the bar floor area . The bar itself is very airy and large . There is an outside seating area with a nice veiw . Thr toilets are very clean and tidy . The staff are helpful and clear the tables quickly. We used the free car parks that are around the area .

Me and my girlfriend went to the old market hall yesterday, we arrived at 9:30, paid for parking and went to order food. After waiting at the bar for some time I got served. The first question I got was “have you got any I.D” so I replied why?, he said “because it’s past 9 o’clock” so I gave him my I.D I started to order then he said “are you on table 25” I said no we’re on 29. He then asked if my girlfriend had I.D I said no why? He then repeated because it’s past 9 o’clock and she can’t be in here without I.D. So we left, got her I.D , checked the law just to see if we were in the wrong we weren’t so we went back, I went to the bar and stated that “ 16 to 17 year olds are allowed in licenced premises at any time” and the staff member who served us agreed and began to serve us. We got our food then half way through the manager came to our table and asked us if we had I.D AGAIN! At this point we had both had enough so we said we’ve already been I.D’d at the bar yet she demanded that we show it again. After a rather heated debate and after being personally insulted and told to “shut up”! by the manager we were asked to leave. It’s a shame as we regularly visited the restaurant and had no issues. Just a shame that the members off staff are so rude. Won’t be visiting again...

I love this wetherspoons, it is big, tables well spaced out, comfortable and great food and drink, fabulous value for money love that on a sunny day you can eat comfortably outside with an ok view, the fish special on a Friday is delicious

Had a burger and a pint for under £6. Food was quite good and the service was fairly quick. A good place to have a quick meal.

We visited on a Friday night for our tea and a drink. We had a great time usimg the Wetherspoons app. We found a booth and ordered our food and all our drinks from the booth. No issues with food or drinks and a had a good time. Worth a visit.

I don’t visit this establishment as much as I previously did, but I must say there’s been an improvement in staff, and management. Needless to say I feel need to amend my previous review, and now award the Old Market Hall five stars, great staff, and a excellent manager, the one and only Matt, not forgetting his great team of co-workers.

We decided to call in for breakfast. Two large breakfasts (no problems at all, plenty on plate) two refillable hot drinks, managed four each, so great value. Also new automated touch screen dispensers which made a decent drink. Overall happy with our visit. We've been before and will visit again.

Popped in for a quick breakfast and had the best Eggs Benedict (ever)- the eggs were cooked to perfection by Pat.Had Eggs Benedict in posh places all over the world and who would have thought that the best one will be found in Mexbrough!

My other half and I popped in for the full English stunning food and great coffee too the breakfast menu wad varied even a veggie choice plus I could have had a pint but not for me at 10am.

I called in for a breakfast on Tuesday 5th June, it was all rather nice I did enjoy the Lazazza coffee which I understand was free refills all day. Lovely sausage too.

This was a new thing for me! Take a seat, look at the menu, make note of the number on the table, and then go to the bar to place your order.

Myself and my friend used this eatery for breakfast a few weeks ago. Was pleasantly surprised breakfast was passable and not too busy.

Service and food is excellent and the manager (think hes called matthew) is the most hard working employee I've ever seen he never stops and is always really friendly

If you like microwaved and not fresh food you will love it here meals always cold and getting a smile from staff is impossible

I was pleasantly surprised whilst from the outside looks a little run down it was so nice and spacious inside. We stopped for lunch and few drinks and have to say you can’t beat it for the money and throughly enjoyed it. Staff were very happy and we even had a little sing along outside whilst staff were on their break.

Sorry but came with my family for this - they've been before and said how fab it was - but my steak was awful. it was full of gristle and tough and I ended up leaving it. Looking at other reviews this seems to be a one off, however I'd imagine that any cook who knows even a little about meat should have known not to serve it -you could tell just by looking at it that it was poor quality. To be fair I was offered a replacement but everyone had finished eating, so I wasn't going to go for that and to be honest I'd been put off. Everyone else's meal was fab but I personally wouldn't go again

'Spoons' can be a welcome respite from a Saturday shop: drop in for a pint and a hot-chocolate then home, however, since our previous visit in mid December (when I'd been partaking of the mulled cider during the festive season), the hot drink service has changed (well, we didn't know so the barstaff member could have been less abrasive about it)!

Really nice staff, seems to have its regulars. Been here on my own a few times, never been bothered when I've been sat in a corner somewhere, with the wifi on my phone. Standard pub grub, but not expecting the Ritz. Decent enough for a Wetherspoons

We went their for our evening dinner. The young lady in the bar were very helpful to us serving us nice food and drinks. The building was interesting in the old market hall was interesting building ever.

Called in for a salmon, cottage cheese and rocket bagel. The rocket looked like it was 4 weeks old, a gentle covering of cottage cheese. Poor quality to be honest.

In my opinion, there is no finer Wetherspoons establishment on this good Earth. Perhaps out of place in a town not as grand as it's finest centrepiece; the Old Market Hall is a diamond in the rough. Undoubtedly, there is little to be said against the building itself. It is incredibly spacious, comfortable and full of that unmistakeable northern charm and charisma. Say what you will about the quality of food at this particular chain, but I hold no reservation about proclaiming that the service at this particular branch is unrivaled. Before you can even say "yeah but it's in Mexborough" the food might as well materialise before your very eyes thus is the speed and efficiency of the finely oiled whetherspoons machine. Many great works have been written about the human condition, but I feel that there are many sonets yet to be written about Mexborough Wetherspoons. I'm sure if local poet Ted Hughes had visited the Old Market Hall, his odes to it would have been numerous and volumnous. Perhaps it is sad then that no such works were ever published, for the world deserves to know about this remarkable oasis, hidden away in the working class shadow of a dark, unforgiving world.

Stopped here for a quick lunch, it is a Wetherspoon and is exactly in their mold with good range of Ales very reasonably priced, extensive menu but food not top quality but perfectly acceptable.Great location and good decor

Typical Wetherspoons, decent food, cheap beer, but they tend to be able to pick the perfect spot to draw in the early morning drunks, Mexborough being full of them!

Always come for breakfast after visiting friends. Never disappoints. Staff always very cheery and food hot and served quickly. Always look forward to our "spoons" breakfast.

The atmosphere is great, people of all ages go and I've never known any trouble there. We really look forward to going most times but now not for the food.

I've currently struggled to find things to do through the week. I happened to visit my local wetherspoons and to find that they do a weekly quiz and wow was I glad I went! It was great fun, so much variety, but my main praise is to the lovely young lady hosting it:) I believe she said her name was Bethan? She really livened the quiz up. She was funny, kind and just made it great fun for everyone! I will definitely be attending again and can't wait to see what topic is next week! :)

The usual menu with good priced drinks. You know what you're getting in a Wetherspoons and it hits the spot.

Visited the restaurant to celebrate a family occasion and the food was very poor standard. I ordered Steak and Doom Bar Pie with mash and mushy peas. The meal came completely cold with a skin covering the peas. The gravy was full of oil and very watery. The manager who served my meal never returned to do a table check or ask if the meals were alright. However, I ordered desert and the waitress that served it asked if the meals were alright and was very sorry to hear about my bad experience and offered me a free drink. She was very helpful and professional about my complaint and made my experience much more enjoyable. The waitress was pleasing to the eye and gave me great customer service. Beside the great customer service from the waitress, my experience was very very poor. I won't be rushing back to eat here again. #table36
