An excellent Sunday lunch. The family that run The Old Manor House clearly care about the quality of the food they serve and the service you receive. Always a friendly welcome. Surroundings are cosy. Service is attentive but not overpowering. Food is delicious, plentiful and good value. I don't use the word excellent lightly ... this is excellent.

Interesting Listed Building hotel, so has lots of character Oddly, on the August Bank Holiday Sunday, the reception closed at 5pm, and there was no service in the hotel after that. Our room was lovely, abet a slightly squeaky bed frame. I did love the old fashioned wooden shutters, in the bedroom. Made up for the single glazed windows. Breakfast was cooked fresh, and tasted lovely.

We have chosen to stay here half a dozen times over the past couple of years because we have family nearby. It's a great location for us but also for a swift train ride to Bath and Bristol. It was recently taken over from the lovely lady who ran it, but the new owners are just as lovely and the transition has been seamless. This time we stayed in one of their suites, which was vast. If we could just encourage them to use up a little of the huge bathroom space to put in a shower, it would make it perfect.

The hotel was in a lovely position,on the high street, but with it's own car park. It's a very old building and the reason I only gave 3 stars was because our first night was in room 1, right over the kitchen and on the hottest day of the year, was way too hot, even with the window open and the fan going all night. When we mentioned this the next morning they immediately put in a different room which was much better. Main improvement suggestion would be better gluten free provision for breakfast, more cereal options perhaps and some mixed fruit selection. Difficult for a small hotel. The dinner options were great and cooked breakfast was good too. Definitely recommend it, not room 6 though.

We and another couple stayed here for two nights as part of walking from Bath to Bristol. It is 5 minutes walk from Keynsham Station so very convenient as a stopover. The building dates from 1609 and has many old fashioned oil portraits on the wall. Particularly appealing to those who value historic places. The staff were lovely, nothing too much trouble. We ate here both evenings and the food was excellent. We all were very pleased with our choice of accommodation. It is probably worth saying this is not a suitable place for someone with mobility difficulties. The entrance is not level and the floors are uneven. The corridors are narrow and there is no lift to the first floor where the bedrooms are.

We booked 2 rooms here as we were going to the Christmas market with friends. When we arrived it was freezing outside and indoors, the heating wasn’t on,there wasn’t even a radiator in the bathroom, when my husband went to complain they said it was on the timer and they had just switched it in and it would take some time to heat up. We ate at the restaurant the food was nice but we had to get our coats to keep warm as it was still freezing in the restaurant. They were having Christmas parties so was also very noisy. The heating eventually came on once back in our room and was snug but throughout the night the room was so hot you couldn't turn the heating down or open the window.

Came here for a family 'do', therefore lots of us to serve. We had a large room to ourselves. The staff let me decorate the room as it was for a special occasion, obviously restrictions where to put "blu-tac" and sellotape was forbidden. Easy rules to abide by. We were basically left to it, which was good, and they only brought out the tea when we were ready and removed items when we were nearly all done, i.e only about 4 of us left in the room. It was good to be left alone and not fussed over and not rushed to start or leave. Only very minor points: the bowls of sugar were forgotten, I don't think it bothered many people, just one or two missed it, hence I knew it had been forgotten! Also, cold roasted vegetable sandwiches as an option for a vegetarian, did not look good, I didn't taste them, but not over-impressed with that option. However, I was more than happy with the cheese and eggs sarnies, and it was nice of them to think of something else, just personal preference I guess. The scones and cakes were lovely as was the tea, coffee was also served. The staff are lovely and it's a beautiful building. There is a very small car park, so you would be extremely lucky to get a spot, and they do not reserve spaces. The toilets were upstairs, not sure if it would be possible to get there if you had difficulty walking. There's a lovely little bar. They have WiFi.

We were shown into the bar/lounge area, the restaurant has a wide selection of Gins, so my wife was happy, but as the designated driver I was less than impressed that the only non-alcoholic drinks they had were the normal soft drinks. Whilst having our drinks we were able to make look at the menu but then it was really long wait until they came and took our order and then we were just left there again for ages, before eventually being taken to our table. Service throughout the meal was a bit chaotic. My Pigeon Risotto was very disappointing, with tough small pieces of pigeon, although the risotto was tasty. My main looked lovely was but way to dry. For pudding I asked what the cheese were on the cheese board, but chose a Sundae instead as they only had three cheese and nothing special. A couple of the others on our table ordered the cheese and when they came out there were more cheese and they were different to what I had been told! Then although my pudding was called Sundae I found no Ice Cream in it, it was just cream and fruit, so more like a Mess. Then to top it all I had to chase to get bill and then physically chase again to allow us to pay and leave. All in all very disappointing.

On our table for eight people I think all of us were disappointed by one or more elements of their meals. We had 6 starters and eight main courses but were not prepared to risk the puddings. One steak was sent back as far too overdone and two pork dishes were so poor that we were not charged for them which was a nice gesture but does not prevent a gathering of old friends form being spoiled. Would not return until the kitchen gets its act together and would not recommend others to risk it either. When the waiting staff do not ask if all is well and avoid eye contact you get the feeling that they might know that all is not well perhaps?

Excellent Christmas Day meal in a fine setting, a truly lovely historic building in my home town. I could not fault the 5-course meal nor the service, great atmosphere, more than I would usually pay but why not at Christmas? I'll see you again next Christmas! You can have a drink in a very cosy and charactful bar next to the dining room. It has a cottage feel, like a front room. I have had a drink or a coffee there in the past and had almost forgotten you can just pop in an have a drink, particularly in the Summer when there is a small garden out back. I'll have to come in more often. The building feels historic the moment you walk in and is one of the oldest in Keynsham. Even the red telephone box outside is a Listed Building! Both are time capsules, really! I have not stayed overnight in the hotel but find some of the reviews moaning about not having mod cons (like a shower) in such an old building very peculiar. They should go and stay in a modern one instead if that's how they feel! Well done, thanks again.

Some 8 of us, all family, came here to eat a pre ordered meal at a pretty decent price. We were first shown in the lounge by the bar where we could enjoy drinks. My sister was opening her presents and something very special at the end where a lady named Jane told us three to four times that we were to move into the restaurant. I felt like a school child. On the 2nd time we made it clear we were doing the presents and she still managed to not get the hint and come back two more times to march us out? Like... we're paying customers, don't push it. I thought it quite rude and a big shame. The restaurant was nice but rather plain, tinny sound coming from a tucked away iPod speaker. The food was lovely and warm, a real treat! One thing again that saddened my visit was the feeling I was on big brother... a cctv camera bared down on me whilst eating my meal, I and many other family members felt rushed in their dinner and a member of staff was in checking on us to see if we'd finished, like.. we do plan to pay the bill and no we haven't put food on the walls. Customers need space. Enjoyed but a true shame about the team and who leads it. We won't be planning a future visit.

We had our Christmas lunch here, it was a really bad experience. We had to wait almost an hour between each course, The staff were friendly but not once did they come and check on us or ask if our food was ok.The pheasant was so over cooked you almost needed a steak knife to cut through it. The vegetables were a mere cauliflower, few carrot and overcooked red cabbage. There was then an hour and 10 minutes wait before we were served puddings. We were then told that one of our party had to change desert from what they pre ordered as the chef has dropped a desert...The Christmas pudding was microwaved and so overdone, its obvious when a pudding is 'over microwaved' as it was so chewy and hard on the outsides. We skipped coffees and mincepies as we had small children at our table and we had already been sat there for almost 3 hours! We complained to the manageress, who was more defensive than apologetic. At £80 per head for Christmas lunch, it was such a disappointment. They just couldn't cater for the size table we had, though they should have said this before booking as it ruined our Christmas lunch.

Only downsides were the potatoes were very dry like they had been cooked a while ago and the veg selection was a little limited. Would I go there again, yes probably. The staff were very attentive, brought extra gravy and some more veg on request.

We chose The Manor House for our annual pre Christmas meal as we thought we would get a cosy Christmas atmosphere, we were wrong. The restaurant was dull with no decoration and I've never eaten a meal so fast. The starter was brought to the table as soon as we sat down, as soon as we had eaten the last mouthful the plates were cleared and the mains brought out, the same happened with the desert, not a minutes break between all the courses! When we finished the desert there were no staff around, no one to ask if we wanted coffee or more drinks, so we left(we had paid 2 weeks before). I never have eaten a meal so fast. After looking forward to this evening we were really disappointed. There was other things including a disco going on so we assume that this was more Important to the staff.

Such a quaint little establishment. Our twin room was spotlessly clean with lovely comfy beds, crisp white linen and fluffy white towels. Unfortunately, the saniflow was quite smelly in our en suite bathroom when flushed and although we reported it the staff were unable to offer a solution and or possible air freshener!!! We advised them to maybe have it serviced! We ate in the restaurant and really enjoyed our meals. I went for the steak and my sister had the lamb. Although my steak was slightly over cooked it was still tasty and succulent and my sister loved the lamb. Although they forgot the crispy goats' cheese and had to bring it separately to her dish. Waiting staff were very friendly, but could have been more attentive though. We ended up decanting our own champagne after requesting that it be left to chill a little. No one came to check if we were happy with the meals either! Breakfast was slightly disappointing given that the evening meal was so good. My sisters' requested well done egg, bacon and sausage were sent back to be returned completely frazzled after an obvious dip in a deep fat fryer. Toast was a slice each and no more and we had to request milk for our coffee and brown sugar more than once. Given that the hotel is over 400 years old some history to read up on would also have been nice but there wasn't any and the staff couldn't provide any either. We would stay there again though as overall it was quite a pleasant experience.

The menu is a schizophrenic mix of traditional (burger, fish and chips, steak) and the more modern (mackerel & goats cheese ice cream, herb crusted lamb with basil pesto). The prices are high. £19 for an 8oz rib eye is top end. However some of the details are poor: rubbish wine list and the 'hand cut chips' appeared to have just been fried out of the freezer and left to wrinkle under a hot lamp. On balance we enjoyed it, but the restaurant needs to decide what it is and then commit to it. At the moment it is neither a good quality pub grub place, nor a high end fine dining venue. The mixture doesn't work for me.

6 of us booked Sunday lunch to celebrate one of our birthdays. We arrived to a warm welcome with a log fire. The staff were lovely and looked after us really well. The food was amazing, battered prawns with chilli dip for starters were fantastic. The main course was brilliant, lots of roast beef, roast potatoes cooked perfectly and the vegetables were just right, everything was pipeing hot with plenty of thick tasty gravy. We forced ourselves to have a pudding and was not disappointed. All in all one of the best Sunday lunches we've ever had. Would definitely recommend this place, very clean and welcoming and reasonably priced.

Be very aware of this hotel and how they try to ripp you off. Stayed here on a business trip. They do not have 24 hour staff.i left this hotel at 0745 on a sunday no staff were on duty.so i left my key at the reception desk.as i was driving back to brighton at about 12.00 hours i recieved an email from the hotel informing me that they were charging me an extra £55.00 pounds for smoking in my room which i found odd as i have never smoked in my life.i phoned the hotel and told them that i have never smoked to which they replied that the room smelt of smoke i told them that i was a 62 year old asthmatic and could not smoke even if i wanted to and that my room was vacant for four hours between me leaving and them invoicing me and that any body could have gone in that room.they insisted the charge would stand.i asked them if they had any proof that i smoked in the room like ash or cigarette ends to which they replied no but would still charge me.i have taken steps to get this charge revoked . You have been warned.l would not recomend this hotel to a homeless person even if it was free of charge.overall opinion crap.

Went here recently for the set Sunday lunch. The deal was just average pub fare at best, and definitely not 'best sunday lunch in Bristol' as claimed by someone. The bar area is nice, rural olde world , and relaxed, with good service. The restaurant is very dated decor wise, but reasonably comfortable , kind of a bit like a typical pub restaurant from the 80's & could really do with a revamp all round.I went for the mackerel with toast first , with was ok, but had no lemon or pepper on it.No rolls or bread were supplied during the meal, which was a bit unusual. This was followed by roast beef , with seasonal vegetables. The beef was not rare , just too modest slices, only average in flavour, supplied with bog standard gravy . The gravy definitely was not properly made, & tasted of Bisto or something similar. The veg in the main was was done well, but let down by rather tired and not very well made roast spuds. The yorkshire looked very nice, but sadly was dried out , and had clearly been sitting around a bit too long. The pudding was OK, I went for Eton mess , that had good flavour , and reasonable enough. All in all it was a bit of a disappointment, not a disaster , but not very good either, so won't be returning in a hurry.

This was a 60th Wedding Anniversary, so some of the participants were very elderly. We had a big room, with plenty of room to circulate, and had an excellent 3-course meal chosen from a menu range a month (!) before hand. The staff were attentive and the food was very good considering the numbers (ca 20 people). Not sure about value, as we were not paying, but knowing our family it was probably good value!

We visit the Old Manor at least once a month for a roast, superb every time! The food is always fresh, and cooked well. I wont even mention the naughty deserts! We went last Sunday for Mothers Day, same amazing roast dinner, same incredible service, and unlike most places, not an extra penny more, we left feeling full and satisfied as usual! This place is a little hidden gem, and they should be very proud of what they do, perfect! Thank you Old Manor, for staying traditional, filling our bellies with delicious food, and always looking after us when we come.

Booked up for Valentine's day dinner. Not for the day but because 50 years ago I got engaged to be married. Excellent menu. Excellent service. Nice convenient venue. Excellent food and a couple of heart shape topped cup cakes was a very nice touch. Not sure what happened to my petit fours with the coffee but as I was well satisfied I might not have had room so I didn't ask. Not the fault of the restaurant. It was a surprise for my wife. Easy parking. Certainly recommend.

This was my first visit to this restaurant with a friend who had a Groupon voucher. The ambience was good, although we were originally seated about 6 inches away from another table before requesting a move to a more private table. The food was good and the portions were ample - my fellow diner was not happy with the quality of his steak but this was replaced without question and he was satisfied with the replacement.

Back again !Meet up here about every six months with friends who are quite unadventurous diners and have yet to have a bad meal. I normally have the steak as it is to die for but this time chose the lamb rump which was the tastiest ever. Cant remember the last time I had such a tasty piece of lamb on a pretty plate of vegetables, The old world charm of The Old manor House complements the no fuss simplicity and presentation of good quality meat and vegetables. The desserts are yum too!!!

We ate here for the first time on a quite Monday evening we were greeted by a very bubbly polite lady who looked after us very well throughout the evening. The food was stunning, very well presented, beautifully cooked and a nice selection on the menu. The only slight negative comment I would make is the courses came out a little too quick for our likening. This is a similar comment to other reviews so you may wish to ask for a suitable break between courses.

The second visit to meet family for their Sunday roast. All tables full, made up of lots of different combinations. Some turned over more than once! The location - large public house, which also offered lovely accommodation with great views. In a great setting, tucked away in the countryside, although at the same time could feel it being a local hostelry. The staff were all welcoming & accommodating. A suitable table was given to our group, which included a (well behaved) dog. Water on offer for the 4 legged friends Out of our party of 7- most chose the beef. All cooked to our liking of rare/medium rare. Vegetables all cooked just right, to maintain the flavours. All the trimmings present & when requested extra gravy - this was not a problem. Great all round food again to a high standard & would also recommend having a pud too! Would recommend advance booking for this popular eatery.
