Best pub roast in years and matched with great service! Lots to choose from if you didn't fancy a roast for Sunday.

Set in the centre of stunning Chew Magna, this is a high quality pub. We walked in on mothering Sunday with no booking like tools... but they accommodated us gracefully and with good wit. Great decor and two lovely fires. Staff seem motivated and polite.

Sam and Henry are genuine, lovely guys who do a wonderful job helping to run this fine establishment. The location is beautiful, the rooms are immaculate, and the whole experience is first class!

Can't rate the rooms as we didn't see them or stay there. We were there to celebrate a birthday, just a get together with family and a meal. On this particular occasion we ordered the fish with chunky chips and crushed peas. Sadly the fish was saturated in fat/oil which ruined the meal. I didn't want to embarrass the family by complaining so I just ate what I could. We're unlikely to eat there again.

Business trip. Lovely little village and easy safe parking behind the Bear and Swan. Food was great too! Little disappointed with areas outside of the restaurant and rooms which were untidy and in poor condition. That was the only negative.

The room was well appointed and the en-suite very spacious. Breakfast was excellent served by a warming log fire. I would thoroughly recommend this establishment for anyone visiting the Bath, Bristol, Wells area. The Chew Valley Lake is well worth a visit as are the standing stones at Stanton Drew.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. I decided to eat here and the food was exceptional. The room was clean, up to date and spacious. I’m very fussy with pillows and there was a choice. The facilities in the room was great and it’s a shame I wasn’t here longer. 10/10.

The Bear & Swan was, for me, a perfect experience for our friend group's Christmas get together. When I say perfect, I mean *perfect*. To go through everything - it was a group of about 10 of us, and we all had different things on the menu. I did the three course Christmas meal (which amounted to four course really) for £40. So amongst the pluses: * The food portions were just right * The taste was delicious. Absolutely delicious and full of flavour * The Deconstructed Cheesecake isn't a cheesecake but all the bits to make one spread out on a plate. When it came we were all 'what the heck' as maybe we didn't read their menu right - we hadn't - but those of us who had it, it worked! * The service was SUPERB. The staff, friendly, welcoming, appreciative of light banter, quick to serve, organised just with the right timings for the food so nobody was out or ever waiting too long... it was fantastic. * The blokes loos were clean enough * The decor was warm and homely and the place felt welcoming, not a grubby 'local' Resultantly although it was towards pricey, this felt entirely justified as it backed it up with superb, well, everything. I don't mind paying a premium if a place can back it up. This place did. I've been once before and it was good. Coming back to it, it was utterly amazing and I want to go again. Thank you for a special Christmas meal guys!

Definitely going to the Queens arms tomorrow night. The Bear and swan has gone very down hill for a Saturday night. Diabolical service, zero atmosphere, rude staff, £13.80 for a large glass of wine. Asked for a coffee after 3 rounds of drinks just gone 10pm with diners still eating and told they had turned the machine off and to bad 😩 now I understand why the pub is empty and everyone's downs the Queens.

A hidden gem, wonderful location 20mins outside of Bristol, staff were very accommodating and friendly. Rooms were clean and perfect for a few nights stay, general atmosphere was amazing in the pub downstairs. easy check in and check out parking can be limited in car park, however was able to park I cannot complain it was an amazing stay

We have just had two days stay at this great pub/ hotel. Food was exceptional both evening dinner and breakfast. The room had everything you needed, and was clean and fresh with everything you would expect. I will say our room was very warm but easily sorted by opening our window for a short while. Great friendly staff that could not do enough for you. Would definitely stop here again

We stayed at this lovely country pub for 2 nights as well as having dinner there both nights. The rooms are spacious and very bright and modern and the pub itself is a gem. Food is amazing and the service is friendly and personal. Perfect location if you want to visit Bath and it is also close to Bristol airport. What a great find!

I had an amazing experience at The Bear & Swan. The place is very clean. The workers are very accommodating and professional.

We were in here midweek for lunch. There’s comfortable seating, nice décor and the staff were excellent. We had a couple of drinks and meals, all reasonably priced. Our only disappointment was the quality of the calves liver in one of the meals which was very chewy and tuby. Otherwise good.

Once again a cracking stay before holiday flight the next day. Connor, Matt and the staff make you feel more than welcome and as usual everything up to a high standard. See you in January lads.

Great pub/restaurant just quite noisy so my grandmother wasn’t really able to hear our conversations but was a good atmosphere to it. Staff were friendly and attentive. I visited with my friend on The eat out to Help scheme, and was surprised to see many empty tables, and even chatted to a couple who had walked in off the street without booking. having read great things about this pub I did expect it to be busier, even taking social distancing into consideration. My friend & I both ordered the calves liver, which was excellent, beautifully cooked and seasoned, and accompanied by a selection of lovely vegetables cooked in my favourite al dente fashion, and a delicious potato cake, made from finely sliced potatoes, wonderfully cooked & a pleasant change. Unfortunately our dessert of choice was "off", and we were put off an alternative by the couple nearest who described it as "oversweet". We decided on ice cream, a locally made one, but there was much confusion among the waitress and front of house of choices available. Personally I think £7.50 is rather hefty for 3 small scoops, especially when a home made dessert is a comparable price. That aside, I was impressed with the food, however, the service really needs to be improved. We never felt valued as a customer, having to wait for service an unreasonable amount of time considering the restaurant was only one quarter full, having to ask 3 times for a jug of water and almost giving up wanting a dessert because we couldn't get anyone's attention. The table next door were ecstatic about their risotto, it's obvious the chef can cook, but the front of house really must step up to the mark to make this place fabulous, as it has the potential to be.

I came for a meal with my friends last night and took advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. The service was prompt and the waitresses were friendly despite it being busy! My burger was delicious and well presented- certainly worth the price had it not been 50% off. I'd recommend The Bear and Swan for an occasion meal or date night. All of the food coming from the kitchen looked great and I'd like to come back and try more dishes!

Upon arrival the new covid measures were explained in a very professional yet easing way, which settled my wife and began our evening on a safe and comfortable note. The service was bubbly, friendly and very knowledgeable. The food was of a higher caliber than expected, full of flavour and impecably presented. Will definietly be returning.

Our three generation family birthday meal was a real success at the bear and swan. Food was well prepared and quite creative....a real cut above a standard pub meal but without inflated prices. Prompt and attentive service from the team as well. A bit limited on beer choices ( butcombe) but other than that a great meal out.

Visited on Monday night - first night of “eat out to help out” scheme. Had booked a table for 4 for evening dinner. Greeted warmly at the bar and had a good explanation of the measures in place ( hand sanitisers, one way system etc). Two of us had the lambs liver which was cooked perfectly. This was served with lovely seasonal veg and its was really tasty. The other two in our party had a sirloin steak, which she said was lovely and cooked just how she requested ( served with a peppercorn sauce) and the burger. Burger was a good size and again cooked to perfection. Chips were delicious- crispy on the outside and fluffy inside!We ordered a couple of portions of onion rings which were probably the tastiest onion rings we’ve tasted. Good range of drinks and a wine list to suit all tastes.All in all a really pleasant and enjoyable evening. The staff were really helpful and extremely polite and a credit to the business.In my opinion definitely worth a visit
