The Courtyard Cafe in Bath and North East Somerset

We really enjoyed our visit! Lovely pancakes and coffee, with friendly, helpful staff. It was such a treat to sit in their pretty courtyard despite it being mid November! Would go again.

I wasn't very impressed - the flat white had a strong 'burnt' flavour, probably from over-roasted beans. Add in no Wi-Fi (or tethering - they're in a basement with bad reception) and fairly brusque and perfunctory service, a hand dryer that didn’t work, and it's a cafe I won't be visiting again.

Went to Bath for the day and very hungry when we arrived around 1 o’clock. Found this little cafe near the Abbey and although it had only outside seating left we decided to eat there. The ‘courtyard’ was under cover and we were sat under a heater so it was fine, we ordered English breakfast (served all day) and coffee. When the breakfasts came they had, I egg, 1 sausage, half a tomato, chopped mushrooms, around 4 slices of streaky bacon and a slice of toast. At just under £14 one of the most expensive I’ve eaten, maybe because of being in Bath but I’ve had better breakfast at a much lower price elsewhere, that said the service was ok and it was clean. I did note they add a service charge which is a pet hate of mine!

Popped in for a quick coffee and cake. Good strength coffee and the carrot cake was one of the best I have had, beautifully decorated and a good portion. Service was good and personalised.

We had a delicious brunch here. We sat in the courtyard which was lovely (despite the rain). The staff were attentive and kind and the food was really tasty. Definitely recommend!

This adorable cafe was a welcomed refreshment from the warm sun under it's giant parasol covered courtyard. The food was delicious with good selection. The specials also looked very inviting. Staff were friendly and helpful with prompt service.

Fast service, great price and great food!

Came here prior to visiting Roman baths. Excellent food and coffees. I had the fruit yoghurt pancakes - incredible! Mum had toast and it was so chunky and filling. Hubby had the sausage, egg bacon sandwich and dad had the full english. All of it was 10/10. Such friendly service too. Totally recommend!

Lovely cafe in a nice courtyard near the Abbey. The full English was lovely and well presented as was the flat white. It is a lovely, calm space and nice and cool on a hot day. Tranquil little gem in the city centre, we will definitely be back 😊

Had a lovely breakfast. Only thing I thought was off was the bill was put down in front of us and the waitress put the card machine on top straight away so we couldn’t see what we had been charged for or if we had been charged for service charge or not.

The best breakfast I’ve ever had! Limited menu, but everything you could want. Tiny and intimate space with both indoor and outdoor dining. Go! Just go!

Delicious breakfast options, served all day. We really enjoyed the Havana Toast and the Mediterranean Tartine, both were quite large portions and very tasty. Highly recommend!

We came along with group of 14 and wanted to have lunch on the cosy terrace. No problem for the ladies and they quickly set-up the tables. Food was so yummy; we had pancakes and croque monsieurs and the hummus sandwich. Coffee was the best we had in Bath. The ladies were so nice. Highly recommended!

Lovely cafe with great food. We tried the special: Bubble and Squeak, and it was very tasty and filling. The atmosphere is great, especially at the terrace. There is also a great tea selection, I had the Apple tea and it was very nice. The staff was outstanding, always attentive and helpful.

right near roman baths ordered two hot drinks and cola and two cakes i was asked to move twice by a very rude guy with a ponytail stocky built and he shouted at me to move seats and table which i did i was with my partner who is severely disabled i moved again to another seat to be shouted at and intimidated by the same guy saying i cant sit here sat outside in the hot weather with my partner all we wanted was to have nice lunch and drink out food drink lovely and the lady inside serving us was fabulous friendly and intentive but it was the stocky guy who ever he was from the cafe actually came up to me twice and shouted out you cant sit here in front of other staff customers and myself. It left me very mortified and upset it spolit the day for me i did complain and write to the manager by email and also by letter to no reply about this guy he didnt say he worked in this cafe there was tables and chairs and another cafe next door as well but it should have made it very clear where he worked he had long brown hair in ponytail and was tall and stocky built i had no idea who this guy was if he worked in the courtyard cafe or not he never said his name or anything just shouted at me twice to move it was no please can you move no manners nothing. Their was four customers at the time who witnessed this unfortunately i did not get their names but the lady let us sit on her table and another customers asked if we was ok they heard the guy shout at us to move. Not recommended no explanation nothing very rude obnoxious person

it is a lovely cafe inside and the lady that served us was very friendly attentive and welcoming we ordered two cakes cola coffee and tea and we me and my partner sat outside in the sun and heat the lady was very welcoming now while we sat down a guy shouted at us to move from the table and chairs we sat on another chairs and tables to be shouted at at the second time and told to move my partner is severely disabled he cant walk much and as severe brain injury he the guy who told us to move was stocky build large side with long brown hair in a pony tail he was very very abrupt showed me up he shouted this out in public to move in front of other customers my partner and staff really made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed we had to move again there was no where to sit it was only when another lady heard saw what happened we had to sit next to this lady she asked and five other customers also saw and asked if we was ok they heard this guy shout us to move i had at least five witnesses who actually saw and heard what this guy said. He made us me feel very uncomfortable unwelcomed it was a very hot day my partner has disabilities and is type two diabetes he just recently recovered from heart attack we found this place by chance. Now i have wrote twice once by letter and again by email on when we visited this cafe when and the time visit as well none of me or my partner ever got a explanation we haven't got a clue who that guy was who told us to move not just once but twice. I wouldn't want to come back here if i was going to be spoken to like that again. It's a shame it spolit it for me because the food and drinks was lovely and good value and the lady that took cash and served us was lovely it was spolit by that guy. Came here on 22nd june 2023 i have no idea who this guy was where he worked he just looked at us and told us both to move we didnt do or say anything wrong i dont honestly think i would want to come back here

Average food. This review is based on an unwillingness to cater for a young child. As egg was on the menu, we asked for it to be scrambled and were told "the chef can't do that". This was not at a particularly busy time - midweek, early lunch. So it's either a lack of competence or a lack of cooperation. It really ruined our lunchtime treat.

Couldn't scramble an egg for our one year old. Insisted it had to be fried!

Service is amazing! However, the place inside has a strange odour. The cakes and the coffee are delicious. The scones are not too good. I do not recommend them.

Not allergen safe! The gluten free brownie I ordered came with biscoff crumbs on top! When I said something, they said - „well you should’ve told us“. I very much did say the gluten free brownie! Why claim something is gf then add gluten? Wouldn’t go again

Went here for breakfast which was delicious. I was gutted I got full and couldn't finish it. Nice to sit outside if the weather permits and the staff were lovely.

Two lattes, a porker sandwich and pancakes came close to 40 pounds but this did include service charge. Staff were great and the atmosphere was really good.

The Welsh rabbit on crumpet was AMAZING! Highly recommend! Coffee wasn’t too great, flat white was a very weak capuchino but the hot choc was lovely. Service was nice but took a while to get an order in and also ask for the bill. Dogs allowed only outside but nice Heater 😁 overall very lovely and would go back especially for the crumpets 😁

Superb breakfast in this gorgeous little café. We sat outside, in the covered heated courtyard. It was very busy but the staff were courteous and unflustered and the service and food were excellent.

It has a wonderful vibe and a cozy ambiance. I recommend the goat cheese ciabatta!

The most delicious crumpet ever! A great, cosy cafe to sit outside with friends, play cards and drink tea. Cups and saucers were very sweet. Thanks for having us 🫶

This little independent place has the best breakfast item I've had in quite a while. We popped in just as it opened. The Havana Toast is robust and flavorful. Pulled pork might not seem like a breakfast ingredient but it was wonderfully combined with chipotle mayo and some mango bites. Absolutely delicious! Husband thought the Full English was nice, bread for the toast was tasty. The atmosphere was very pleasant, I enjoyed the fact that it reminded me of Zelda Twilight Princess going into its front entry. It is quite a small dining area- first come first serve. I imagine it is insanely busy and popular in high season! Staff were polite and the music taste a joy as well.

We went for breakfast and whilst slightly disappointed at the lack of choice the English breakfast we had was lovely. The only other annoying thing was the high service charge that was snuck on and paid by my partner. I feel this type of tipping is not acceptable and guests should choose to pay service charges not feel forced.

I was so excited to eat here. It looks so cute and ‘instagrammable’ on first impressions. We were more than happy to wait for a table but felt the staff were quite rude. There wasn’t a particularly warm welcome and instead of being offered a menu whilst we stood and waited in the meantime, we were just stood to one side whilst staff kept chatting about where they were going to put us. We just felt talked about and a bit of an inconvenience as we watched from the sideline! Once finally seated, we were given a menu with basically two things, a jacket potato or ciabatta. I asked about the brunch that’s promoted on their website as being served until 4pm and they said they weren’t doing it. That was the end of that. Staff just didn’t seem particularly happy or friendly.

An incredible hidden gem - I’m reluctant to share it because I worry we’ll never get a table again, but they really deserve the kudos! It’s a tiny place, though with a nice outdoor patio, but the service is so attentive and the food and drinks are incredible - great coffee and imaginative, beautifully cooked food with top-notch ingredients. The crumpets rarebit, pancakes and Havana toast were absolutely spectacular - so much so that we went straight back with friends the next day! Thank you for some brilliant meals, Courtyard team - we’ll be straight back next time we’re in Bath!

The lady who invited us in, really wasn't very friendly at all but the friendliness of the younger lady made up for that thankfully! My dirty chai and pancakes were nice.

A welcome respite from the busy Christmas market and the cold, it was very busy and warm, the staff all looked like students, no uniforms but were polite, the menu is VERY limited, a choice of about 4 things with a few specials, I only really liked one option so was forced to have that, probably wouldn't eat there again just because of the restricted menu

Average cafe. The 'stollen' was not what I would normally describe as such. Staff friendly. It's an expensive place and in no way exceptional. There are better choices in Bath, so we won't be back.

Stopped for breakfast, purely by chance didn't look up local reviews, and the breakfast was great, I had the bubble & Squeak which was really well cooked with melted cheese on top.

Mean careless waitress !!! Would not eat here with this type of service We came today super exited I am Colombian and my husband American first time Together in England so exited about our English breakfast we came exactly at 11:25 and we’re just exited about English traditional breakfast, a girl ame out barely gave us the time of the day, and told us that there was only sitting outside to our surprise a couple enter a couple minutes after us, and they were seated inside, we went ahead when she finally showed up again 10 minutes after, and we asked if we could have breakfast and she said we close at 11:30 which is close so we were sitting there feeling awful about service and being the night at table inside. Breakfast was done because she came 10 minutes late but overall all of that would’ve been fine if she would’ve had a good attitude. We were so disappointed since she was the first English person that was actually mean.

Nestled in a little alley near the Roman Baths, a few steps away from the Abbey, this is gem: quiet, lovely decor, friendly staff, good brunch selection and excellent coffe. Little expensive, but well worth and will come back if in Bath again

One of my absolute favourites. When everything else feels hit and miss, sometimes good and other times bad, the courtyard cafe always delivers. Havana Toast is divine, and served with some great friendly service. The only downside is if you can’t get a table at the busy periods!

We enjoyed the leaf tea in proper teapots. The decorated fruit topping transformed an ordinary carrot cake into something special. The home made scone was more ordinary but still OK. Why don't you display samples of your cakes as served? They would sell themselves.... I think you rather undersold them.

A slightly disappointing breakfast visit, service was good, friendly and speedy but the plates were barely warm, my bacon was undercooked and the rest of my Full English was oily. At this price point one does not expect primary errors. However the granola was good as was the toast.

Love this place; I do occasionally find that the music can be a little loud if sat inside but the quality of the food and respect from the staff almost makes you forget that! One of my fave places to lunch in Bath.

Beautiful cafe next to cathedral, we had lunch which was excellent, good choice including children's menu. comfortable clean environment with helpful friendly staff. Only perceived setback....... too dog friendly, like dogs but not near food .

My son & his partner have just moved to Bath & recommended this place when we were visiting them. Loved it straight away as it’s so pretty. The service was ok but to be honest my food was just average , the pancakes my son & his partner had looked lovely. We asked for the bill and I paid it even though it was more than I was expecting. I wish I had queried it at the time as when I looked up the menu online when I got home ,what should have cost me under £55 cost me £84. I didn’t realise about the service charge being added on (I would have asked for this to be taken off) but surely that wouldn’t have been an extra £30 ?? Obviously someone made a mistake , I just wish I’d checked the bill properly.

We wondering a while looking for a breakfast spot, and definitely happy we found the Courtyard Cafe. A bit of a different menu with some experimental flavours, but extremely tasty and very decent portions. Staff were lovely and attentive and the coffee was also great!

Délicieux, cadre super sympa, calme, les crumpets sont très très bons, allez y sans hésiter. Ils sont aussi très arrangeants en cas de besoin.

Stumbled across this place whilst walking past and decided to stop off for tea and cake. The first two members of staff we encountered didn’t look very happy and were a bit off, however the next two were smiley and friendly, which more than made up for the initial welcoming! The pot of tea was really large so gave quite a few cups of tea, great value! The cakes however…. OMG…. Mouth watering! Totally fantastic! I had the raspberry and coffee blondie and my boyfriend had the raspberry and apple cake! Both her delicious! I’d happily have eaten both again!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Staff are so rude and the manager is horrible. Went in for some food and a coffee with my 3 month baby and sister. We sat outside. The staff made a table behind us for customers that wasn’t there when we sat down. They completely blocked us in so the table would have to be moved for us to get out or go to the toilet etc. when I told a staff member this politely she told the manager. The manager came out and argued with me and was so rude that we left straight away. I was made to feel so uncomfortable as if I had done something wrong. Awful management. Awful customer service

Just had one of the best breakfasts I've tasted. The bubble and squeak stack, wow! Walked by initially because the courtyard was in the shade, but don't do that. Everything I saw being served looked amazing!!!

What a find! If you didn't know it was there you could easily miss it. Great coffee and selection of cakes. The meals on the specials board and menu look appetising and reasonably priced.

I had an excellent experience being very well attended and tasting a very delicious meal.

Tried the courtyard veggie and it was so good!! Rich in flavors and colors. The pancakes were perfect too! Highly recommended
