Had a family Sunday lunch, there were 7 in our group including 2 kids. First time we had eaten here, it is under new management. A superb Sunday lunch, best roast beef I have had on a lunch, it was melt in the mouth. We all enjoyed our lunch including the kids . Lovely friendly pub and will definitely return and use the stunning garden when the weather is better. Highly recommend

5/5 doesn't do it justice. Always wanted to go to this pub as my parents said the beer garden has a beautiful view of the viaduct, and so it did. We went and had a roast dinner, service was speedy and the staff were professional/welcoming. The roast was hands down the best roast we've ever had and we have one every Sunday at a different restaurant. The beef and pork I had was perfect, the beef literally melted in your mouth and the pork belly crackling was next level. If I could give this place and the staff 10/10 I would. We will be back

This pub is for sale and has gone seriously downhill The pork belly sandwiches used to be epic - doorstep with a good inch of succulent pork belly. Now they are thin slices of white bread with very little pork belly. More like an average bacon sarnie. At lunchtime there was one other person - there used to be a good atmosphere of background chatter.

A great country Pub. Service was welcoming and our lunch was very good. The garden is lovely for summer al fresco meals. Care must be taken with small children as there is a most tempting river at the bottom. Also delightful strolls can be taken up to the Pensford viaduct. My first visit and am so happy to have found soch a lovely spot to enjoy

Came to the rising sun after a dog walk in the area. We had cheesy chips and a pork belly and apple sauce sandwich. The sandwich was insane, beautiful soft bread and a good amount of pork belly! We sat in the garden and thoroughly enjoyed the view whilst eating our lunch, a lovely little pub we will definitely be back soon.

Amazing pub in an amazing location but you can tell it's poorly managed. There was no ice for drinks or no coke. The food took ages to come and noone provided cutlery with the food or told us where to collect it. The worst part is that the garden area was such a mess. Tables weren't being cleared, there was rubbish all on the floor, the bins in the garden area were over-flowing with loads of full black bin bags. It doesn't take much for staff just to focus on clearing tables, emptying the bins and making sure the litter is picked up. It was a real shame because the garden area is lovely with nice views, it should just be cleaned up and it would be a lot more pleasant!

Went here because we fancied a short trip somewhere we'd not visited before, so we thought why not go for Sunday lunch while we're here. Good friendly staff and atmosphere, quick service. Nice view of the old viaduct and church in the pub garden. The roast had good quality beef but for £17.50 the overall plate was pretty bland, nothing interestingly seasoned or glazed or anything. In Bristol proper you can get incredible stuff for a quid or two less. Luckily the overall vibe of the place made up for it.

First time visiting after reading great reviews in the press and sadly won’t be revisiting. Food was below average, fish was overcooked and very greasy. The fish was placed on top of the fries and the grease went on to the chips. Not enough peas. One of us had a burger which was described as ‘standard’. We sat in the garden with a view of the aqueduct which was nice but the garden was tatty and dirty and needed a clean up, loads of cigarette butts lying around everywhere and garden furniture tired and broken. Very disappointing.

The food unfortunately was a let down considering the price. I had the Asian veggie burger with a side of fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was almost non existent and the burger came with cheese which wasn't listed in the menu. The roll was cheap and plastic tasting. Fries were tasty. Husband had fish and chips with mushy peas. Again peas barely there. Not worth £16. On a brighter note, lovely scenic setting with ample garden space.

Oh where do I start. Firstly, amazing country pub in a nice setting near the viaduct. Staff were really friendly, attentative and welcoming. It gets better. I went for the pork belly, it was nice and tender and the pork crackling was crunchy, had a decent portion of pork belly. Roast potatoes lacked a bit of taste and were a bit bland. The gravy was nice and thick which I absolutely love. Red cabbage, carrot and parsnips were on point. Special mention goes to the Cauliflower/broccoli and leek cheese dish. Cooked to perfection, with perfect crunchy crackling. All the vegetables were cooked very well. Crunchy roasts potatoes, and delicious home made gravy. Sadly we didn’t have a great experience here after the raving reviews. We went to pensford today on a walk for my husbands birthday and decided to finish here. When we arrived sadly they weren’t serving food anymore. We still bought drinks for 12 of us. We went outside to enjoy the beer garden and one of our friends got out a cake she had made for my husband. We had been asked not to eat it but we got it out just to show him before hoping to consume elsewhere. Naively we thought they might allow us considering it was a birthday cake and they weren’t serving any food. One of the staff members then came outside telling us not only were we not allowed to eat it, it had to be off the premises otherwise she would have confiscated it. HA! We asked if they would allow it in the bag and with a bit of sarcasm and persuasion they allowed us to sit there with it in the boiling sun. She was incredibly rude and totally unreasonable - especially in the presence of children. Others in the garden were watching and we felt uncomfortable. We understand a rule is a rule but the way we were treated felt very unwelcoming. On a side note, We have never been told we can’t eat birthday cake in a place that doesn’t serve cake. We were made to feel so uncomfortable that we decided to leave and as we were leaving one of our group took some glasses inside and overheard the landlady saying ‘good riddance’ some birthday! 😔

Our first experience late last year at a Christmas party set the bar high with the really friendly staff, excellent food and cosy open fire. We have not been disappointed though, and our family have always been greeted warmly and made feel welcome on every visit since. We have come on several occasions for both drinks and food (the pies are AWESOME!). Very dog and family friendly, and when the weather is good, the beer garden is gorgeous with a view of the viaduct. DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB IF YOU EXPECT TO BE WELCOMED. Myself and friends, part of a dog walking group, called in for a few drinks after a rather long walk in the area. We were weary and looking forward to a pint or two, We bought our drinks and snacks and sat in the large totally empty garden. There were 3 men sitting insiode the pub at the time, nobody else there, we have since found out why. Several of our dogs wandered and sniffed around the large riverside garden, a couple of them went to investigate the river, when a lady very rudely burst upon us shouted demanding we put our elderly dogs on leads-'cos it's the law! Now there are ways of politely dealing with customers this was not the way. we're elderly and sensible enough to not allow our gentle dogs to be loose if there had been anybody else within 100yds.t It transpires this rude lady is landlady, we immediately left and went up to another pub for our food. This was once a lovely pub. Oh dear we'll cross this off our list.

A member of staff then marched over, unnecessary riled up, and threatened to confiscate our food. Thankfully she "couldn't be dealing with the agro", so we got to keep our sandwiches. DO NOT GO THERE WITH CHILDREN ! I seldom write a bad review for an establishment but after giving this place the benefit of the doubt, I have made an exception. Despite advertising a beautiful beer garden ( which usually families are welcome at) the general philosophy seems to be that children are not tolerated. On one occasion our family group of 7 adults & 2 toddlers went anticipating to buy lunch & sit in the garden. They had run out of food & stopped serving. Despite the fact that all adults had drinks, when I asked if I could buy my grandchildren sandwiches at the local shop ( as obviously they needed feeding) I was told this was not allowed. On another occasion when we requested a half pint of lemonade, we were told it was only served in pints ! I could go on but hopefully this gives a flavour of the attitude ! They should just be honest and advertise it as an adult only establishment. Very disappointing

Popped along for Sunday lunch. Very busy, we were offered a seat at the front by the fire for 1.5hrs but were given the option of longer out the back so we didn’t feel pushed out. We went for by the fire and it was lovely to be in such a buzzing, warm environment. Orders were taken quickly and drinks served promptly. Food took about half an hour but we expected this on a Sunday so chose to have some bread to start which was warm and delicious. I had the pork belly which had a massive piece of crackling over the top, great for pork lovers. The beef was beautifully rare for my partner. The roast came with loads of veggie sides and I have to commend the roast potatoes. Often done poorly when cooking for large quantities, these were crisp and fluffy. Option for cauliflower cheese wasn’t needed as quantities on the plate were so good. Ideal pub pudding selection. We went for the sticky toffee which was exactly what we expected and wanted. Beautiful setting, we popped out and had a look at the beer garden with the viaduct view and we will be returning to utilise this in the summer . Clearly a family run pub with the young lads being runners for the kitchen. Staff were all friendly and attentive Only downsides were it was on the pricier side as roasts go and we did notice some groups getting asked to move to other areas after they had eaten, getting rushed a bit. Also parking is challenging round the village.

Cute little place with a nice garden in the back with a view of the viaduct. Sunday Roast was fantastic but don't forget to make a reservation!

Lovely pub, it is so good to have a St Austell Brewery pub in the area being run by people who know how to look after beer. So pleased that they screened the Six Nations Rugby on Sunday even though their Sunday roasts are so popular. Well done for remembering you are a pub as well as a fantastic place to eat.

Just arrived Bath in the cold and feeling like warm lunch. Went into Piieminister - ordered a Moo pie and steak & Kidney. Both beautiful and filling. Longish edit but tasted fresh and piping hot so no complaints. Excellent waitress and service. Photo shows pjes half eaten - we couldn’t wait to get started !

This is a cracking place. Superb small plate dining - if you don't mind small plates. Places like this are very rare, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, beautiful and comfortable interior design, excellent menu. One can walk through and choose wine from their wine shop and there's no corkage charge - what could be better. Very good selection of off-the-beaten-track wines. One of the most enjoyable lunches we've had anywhere.

Our family of four arrived in Bath without a reservation to The Pump Room, but thought we might give it a try after a morning of sightseeing. I waited in line to ask if there might be any openings, and sweet James informed me that there just might be for the next seating. I offered to wait, if he didn't mind me hanging around the lobby, and he said that would be a great idea. First dibs! Just about 15 minutes later, James told me our family's table was ready. I couldn't believe it! The sun was shining, there was magic in the air and a quartet was just preparing to play beautiful music. Believe me, I was not at all dressed for the gorgeous atmosphere, but James assured me I'd fit right in and called me "lovely." Emily, our server, was attentive to the needs of my mother-in-law's allergies and my young son's tastes. In short, this sweet occasion marked one of the highlights of our trip — and our lives. The food was tasty, the tea delicious and, most of all, we felt so special. Thanks to James and Emily! :)
