Visited for Sunday lunch, the staff were so friendly and the place is lovely. It was to celebrate a special occasion so they even let us dine in the private room! The roast dinner was on the cheaper side compared to other places but I do feel the portion was small, however it did mean there was room for dessert! The roast however was really tasty. The tiramisu was too alcohol strong for my liking but the other desserts were great. I wound definitely return. Was also amazing to see gluten free options marked up on the menu.

I visited somer dining 2 Thursdays ago for a little lunch with my husband. There was one young lady serving who was very polite and very attentive. I was surprised how small the restaurant had got from my previous visit before covid. The restaurant was the whole size on the room. Now only half and the cafe next door use the other side. When We first arrived there was only 2 tables. As it got to 13:00-13:30 the restaurant side was basically full and it was lovely atmosphere. It was still only the one young Lady who delt with being on her own very well. They must get a lot of regulars as she new who to help into there sits. On to The food… We both had the soup to start it arrive at a great temperature, was full of flavour and the bread and butter was very nice. I was surprised there was only 1 starter on the menu as I remember there being a much bigger selection before.. anyway onto the mains I had the TCQ beef burger which was massive, full of flavour and very nice. My husband had Salmon which he said was cooked perfectly and very testy. Overall very good service! The food was lovely and we will definitely be back! A massive thank you to the waitress I can’t remember her name I’m sure it began with a C but she was lovely explained the menu when we had questions, very attentive and she was very professional with the older generation too. Will definitely see you soon! And we are hoping you can open for dinners again like you use to.

I went to this restaurant a few times however the food standard is appauling. Their salad is under cooked specially the chickpeas in chickpea salad. The tuna baguettes I bought was so hard it hurt inside of my mouth. Today I almost choked on their avacado baguettes because of hard to chew bread. I am sorry to say but except for the coffee I absolutely didn't enjoyed my lunch there and had an awfully bad experience. This resturant needs to change their menu drastically specially as they are next to the offices and only place the workers can go for lunch. They don't have any hot meals and everything is absolutely bland and tasteless. The food is also over priced.

Visited for a birthday with a group of approx. 16 of us for roast dinner, my wife and I had beef, but it was very raw to the point of being fleshy and barely warm, I don’t mind this but my wife complained and got a very frosty response from the manager that she didn’t complain quick enough, it’s not really the sort of service you would expect from somewhere like that. The vegetable sharing plates and gravy boats were very few for the size of the table we had and we had to ask for more again and again. Personally I have had a lot of better roast dinners in Bristol for less money.

We were intrigued by the offer of an 11 course Tasting Menu, with accompanying wine flight. We took the Chef's 7 Course suggested choice and were very pleased with the selection of ingredients , the contrasting flavours and the surprising twists in what was offered. Each course was described and explained by our waiter, which all contributed to a fascinating and enjoyable culinary experience! We hope this new innovative approach by Somer Dining will continue.

Ate here for lunch and in the evening. The quality of the food is very good at pub prices. A quality presentation and good service. Do try not to go too late in the evenings though. Even the fish and chips here is excellent,.....the fish perfectly cooked ( not overdone) and lightly battered, nice thick chips, and a lovely perfectly cooked broccoli and almonds side dish.

The Chocolate Quarter is a very interesting and luxurious building and the restaurant area is for relaxed dining. We were were a party of six and tried the risottos, fish cakes and pork. Good size portions , wine around £20 a bottle. Service friendly and patient.

A few months after our first visit, we finally decided to come back and once again our visit was far from disappointing. This time we enjoyed a fish and chips, perfectly cooked steak and tasty steak and ale pie. But the best part was the dessert. The chocolate and caramel bomb was beautifully decorated, rich and a perfectly sized. The selection of cheeses surprised as with the best local cheeses, fresh figs and homemade chutney. But my favourite dessert was the cheesecake. With a beautiful biscuit base and a light, easy to eat topping. All in all, one of the best meals we enjoyed recently!

To start my review on a positive.... this place has the POTENTIAL to be great!!! The dining room is spacious and of a high standard of Decor and a great spot to enjoy some downtime. Living on the Chocolate Quarter site we have done our best to support both Somer and B block from the day they opened. It has become really frustrating that things could be awesome given the right combination of Really good Food and First Class service. Sunday Lunch Our first outing to Somer was a family Sunday Lunch which turned out to be a great success. The food was on point.... meat nicely cooked, well rested and very tender, the accompanying vegetables also hit the mark with a good selection of the usual suspects plus a few twists in some well made purées. Having enjoyed all 3 courses we began to recommend it to our friends so on our next visit for Sunday Lunch more of us went but booked a later table @ 3pm . It is safe to say it was as if we were eating in a different place.... the meat was cooked to death, possibly kept warm from being ready for midday service...???the vegetables were stewed and watery and there were no Yorkshire puddings available with the beef which is a pretty poor show. Our last ditch attempt at getting a another good Sunday Lunch was a group of 12 of us in the private dining area.... on this occasion the food was ok but just ok and for some strange reason we were served 3 different types of cabbage without a carrot or any Brocolli etc in sight...??? Evening Food.... This again has been a rollercoaster of good, bad and indifferent... When its been good it has been great.... perfectly cooked Steaks & Fish dishes with well thought out accompaniments and decent sauces. When its bad the offerings look hurried, on a couple of occasions have been lukewarm and very bland. My biggest dissatisfaction is the inconsistency in portions.... on my most recent visit my Seabass was minute and yet other times has be generous and the said Fennel slaw had zero Fennel....?? Service..... Always friendly but patchy at busier times and what really lets Somer down is trying to get someone to answer the phone to make a booking or leaving a message and never getting a call back..... With the right team in place both front and back of house Somer could be a well oiled operation and a must visit destination.... Fingers crossed that this eventually happens!!!!

Our son took a day off work (he works 7 days a week at his Post Office in Porlock where he gets far less than the minimum wage from the Post Office) We went for Sunday Lunch, and enjoyed excellent food, both main and dessert. My son and I had Beef and my wife, Belly Pork. The service was excellent along with the ambience of what was once a busy loading bay at Fry's Chocolate Factory. We will certainly visit again in the not too distant future.

Visited this restaurant with my sister and son. Its a bit out of the way for us so not somewhere we would have usually chosen. So glad we did though. Easy to find and park, if you eat there you have to put your number plate in a pad to get free parking. Greeted by a very polite pleasent young lady on arrival and given a table. Water was qiven instantly as were the menus. We do struggle sometimes to find things to eat but this menu was pefect, something for everyone. I could have chosen most things. Drinks order, they arrived quickly and our food order taken. Starters were perfect, as was our mains, a well done steak cooked perfect, not burnt, just perfect. Was a bit surprised to find no mushroom, tomato ect or none on the extras list but that was no problem, each restaurant is different. The waitress kept checking throughout our meal which was lovely. Puddings ordered, i could again have eaten the whole menu. I was confused about some of the descriptions on the menu but the waitress quickly came over to help. Again they arrived quickly. All in it was a very good meal, all cooked perfect, waitress excellent, place lovely and modern, very clean. The kitchen is a viewing kitchen so you can see what they are doing. Not sure why someone said you have to walk through the old peoples home to get to the toilets, they are a few steps down a very wide corridor, no homes or people in site. The toilets were in fact very posh, clean and tidy, some of the nicest i have seen. So all in all we would travel back and visit again. Thank you for a lovely lunch

Excellent food and good service, would of given 5stars but parking difficult as double yellow lines around the building, need to get BANES to change to single yellow so customers can park after 6pm and sundays, but this would not put me off visiting this lovely restaurant.

The Somer Dining is a real find. This has become our favourite eating venue because it doesn't matter how our group is made up - oldies, children, babies or young people - this venue caters for all of them. The food is beautifully cooked and presented, the service is friendly and considerate and the whole ambience is relaxed. Thank you to all those involved in creating this lovely place.

A family group of five, we visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. The food and service were both excellent. Roasts of beef and pork belly which we all enjoyed. Some had starters, some deserts no complaints on anything. I need gluten free, but that was easy with dishes adapted to meet my needs. Thank you for a lovely meal, we will be back very soon.

This restaurant is technically in an old people's home, amidst further massive building development on the former Frys Chocolate factory site. Parking is an issue, being a distance from the entrance, and charged for. Decor inside is ok, clean & modern, toilets shared with the home dwellers and accessed passing by the various facilities also used by them. Waitress was very sweet, not too hot on remembering whose order was whose. Food, very much average pub food, my main arrived 15 minutes after everyone else's which was odd as two of us had ordered the same - it felt as though mine had been forgotten. Most shocking was shortly after my food eventually arrived I saw my daughter couldn't breathe and looked alarmingly distressed, she pointed to her throat and I told her to cough, she did so several times and the bone in the photo attached, which had lodged in her throat, shot out, 2 inches long. She had had the chicken pie and chips. I took her to the toilets in great distress and on returning to the table we showed the waitress, who looked horrified. My daughter needed to drink water as her throat was scratched. We asked if the pies were made on site and, after speaking to the chef, the waitress advised they were, but that the chicken was bought in prepared from a supplier and the bone must have been in there. My daughter was too upset to eat any more, the waitress gave her a dessert FOC, however she could not manage that either, so her husband ate it. The chef did not come out at any time to apologise in person, although we could clearly see him behind the counter, which is unforgivable, after all the responsibility lies with him. I am not sure under what guise this restaurant is trading, however there are serious issues here of major concern, both in the preparation of the food and also the customer service, along with health and safety.
