The Old Lodge in Stroud

Loved it! We just wanted a one night getaway for New Year … the staff are so lovely and the location is beautiful. Will definitely go back when we get some nicer weather as there’s plenty of land surrounding to go for a walk. Breakfast was beautiful. Room was basic but just what we needed.

Delicious food, great location and very good service but please, please would you consider offering the option of a small portion of fish and chips, the portions are just too big.

A delicious, relaxed lunch with a friend. Everything was good, and the service excellent. A pleasant welcoming atmosphere, very dog friendly and certainly a place to be visited!

Undoubtedly the best roast dinner we can find in the Stroud area. It's a great place any day or time of day. Oliver is a great host, the staff are attentive and the food is first class. Dogs are welcome and why wouldn't they be as this place is right in the centre of great walks.

Food: 3.5/5 | Service: n/a (bar service only) | Atmosphere: 5/5 | Value for money: 3/5 This was an impromptu pit stop for lunch. We liked the look of it due its location. The restaurant and hotel was perched on a hill overlooking the scenic town of Nailsworth. The beer garden is perfect in summer and has great views of the adjacent golf course and fields. There’s no table service (possibly unless you’re a guest) so can’t comment for the service but the staff were courteous and friendly. The food was presented nicely, had good flavours and all the components were cooked well. The pork dish could’ve used more pork as the plate was mostly veg and didn’t arrive particularly hot. The ribs were also cooked well and presented well, however they lacked flavour and were neither sticky or saucy which is what you want from ribs. They too arrived warm. For these reasons, I think the cost exceeded the value of the meal.

Location, staff and food were great. However the room we were in (room 2) needed a bathroom upgrade. Shower tray needs re-grouting and extractor fan needs a clean. Just a small amount of work would have pushed my review up to a 5.

Great place for dinner, with terrific views over Minchinhampton Common, only a 10 minute drive from Minchinhampton. Just the right amount of choice on the menu, all 3 main courses ordered on the night were excellent, all 3 of us had dessert as well. Service was excellent, and food was definitely value for money.

We had a family celebration in a private room in the old lodge to celebrate my wife's 80th birthday. The family travelled from different areas of the country and Norway. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we had a fantastic dinner served by the excellent staff. I would thoroughly recommend this place for a great meal in a fantastic location, with great views all around over the common.

We stumbled across this place whilst on a Sunday top down Mini adventure! Think we’ve found a new fave…..the roast dinner was incredible. I had roast beef, which I was given the option of whether I wanted it pink or well done….obviously opted for pink! And it was! So succulent and simply delicious. The vegetables were spot on, and the cauliflower cheese was divine. Other half had the roast pork which had perfect crackling too, so he was happy!! Dessert, he had the crumble and I had the panecotta …..gorgeous! Highly recommend and we will deffo be back xxx

3 friends and I went to The Old Lodge for Sunday lunch. We all had the roast pork. Apart from the very large portion, the food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The rather large yorkshire pudding was amazing and the pork was so tender that we were too full to have a dessert. Will certainly go again. Thankyou

The pub was really hectic and noisy when we arrived on a sunny Sunday evening . We were there to meet up with family and stay the night in the inn before travelling home. We had a light supper involving sharing two different platters . Food was indifferent given the pricing. The Indian vegan choice was unimaginative and made up of mini samosas and onion bajis, pitta and small bowl of salad and salsa. We had a bottle of basic white wine … cheapest on the menu at £25. Paid by card without looking at the bill but was later that night when we had gone to our room we looked at the receipt closely and saw we had been charged for several items of food and alcohol we hadn’t had, amounting to an overpayment of £50. The next day we pointed out the overpayment the mistake was rectified without argument and the amount refunded to us . We presume this was an error due to tired staff rather than a deliberate over charge but had we not queried it we would have been significantly out of pocket.

I went for Sunday lunch with friends yesterday. One of us had roast beef which she enjoyed. The other three of us had roast pork. It was terribly disappointing, The top slice was great, the rest was just fat with the odd bit of meat in it. We did comment but nothing happened. The staff were helpful though

Gorgeous food with gorgeous Cotswold country surroundings. The staff were incredibly attentive and polite and we were never waiting too long before our next course. A great selection of wines (including from the nearby Woodchester Valley Vineyard). We were staying at the nearby Amberly Inn Hotel. A short 5-10 minute walk across the golf course. The star of the evening was the cheese soufflé I had to start - it was just phenomenal. Out of this world on flavour! I’d recommend it to anyone! If you’re in the area, or staying at the Amberly Inn, this is a MUST visit! Bravo to the kitchen and front of house staff!

Beautiful location. Really lovely interior and the staff were great - well trained and on the right side of chatty. Food was excellent. Great menu with choices for our party who had a vegan and gluten free and dairy free members. We would definitely recommend. We sat in the bar rather than the restaurant. The team phoned us beforehand to warn they had a large party in the restaurant which may be noisy so offered to seat us in the bar area instead. It was a thoughtful gesture.

Delicious meal, well cooked, and in a beautiful setting. A hiccup with our bill was sorted out without a murmer. We'll be back.

Held a family lunch in the restaurant to celebrate our Golden Wedding. The venue was great and the meals were excellent.

Great little place, tucked away on the common. Stayed here for business and at £100 for dinner, bed and breakfast what’s to complain about? The food was inventive and absolutely delicious, served quickly. The staff were all an absolute delight and couldn’t do enough. Hats off to the team here, it’s extremely good value for money. I’d come back for pleasure in a heartbeat.

I booked for 12 of us weeks in advance for a private meeting in the small room - straightforward. Wi-Fi worked well enough for me to host a hybrid meeting. Supper served promptly at 8:15 as requested. Delicious:-)

Booked for 18 people for family celebration. From making the reservation through to the meal itself, I cannot fault the Old Lodge at all. Friendly and helpful service and, above all, excellent food. All the starters and mains were excellent. Brilliant and would happily come again.

A wonderful afternoon spent at The Old Lodge, 12 of us for Sunday lunch. Extremely well looked after by the lovely staff. Roast dinner was fantastic and beautifully cooked and the desserts were a hit as well. Would highly recommend. An added bonus is the beautiful location.

A great lunch. I had the spicy vegan Thai curry. Lots of fresh vegetables, al dente, in a hot sauce. A perfect lunch - light, refreshing and healthy. It was a windy day, too, but the restaurant was warm and cosy, and the staff, welcoming. Recommended

I booked for 10 of my friends, and we all had different things that we had to pre order because of the numbers, and everyone was very happy with their selections, and said that the food was excellent. The staff were very attentive and pleasant, and we altogether had a very happy time. We will definitely be going back

My partner and I went to the Old Lodge for Sunday roast. Our order was taken quickly, the staff are amazing, there are enough staff to serve everyone, they're on the ball and very helpful. We didn't have to wait too long for our food which was surprising because the place was pretty packed. I had the roast beef - it was delicious - really tasty beef, cooked the way I love it, medium rare, and a lot of it too. Lots of lovely vegetables and roast potatoes and an enormous Yorkshire pudding. The only complaint I have is that the gravy was a bit thin and weedy - otherwise, everything was really great.

There were 14 of us and we were lucky enough to have a separate room, the room was lovely, the food was good and the staff were all very attentive and friendly. Will definitely return.

Came here for a catch up with friends and what a lovely evening. Food was amazing, service could not have been better. Have been here a few times and chose it for its warm, relaxing and friendly feel. Such a charming building in a beautiful location. Looking forward to dropping in again in the summer on a walk across the common.

I met a friend here for lunch as it's half way between the two of us - we're in Tewkesbury and Bath. I have eaten here on several occasions and never had a bad meal. This was no exception. We had delicious meals of fish and a risotto which were both tasty and cooked to perfection. We had good coffees as well and although the first ones were only luke warm, on request they were re-done and then piping hot, no problem. I honestly cannot fault this place - for location, facilities and absolutely great food - and a really good choice of it too. My friend was very impressed as well, and will be recommending it for her large family gathering of over 40. Praise indeed. If you're in the area - this is the place to go to.

The food was fine but the service was poor. This is not a criticism of the waiters, they were all very nice. The problem is that there was not enough of them, hence the the slow service.
