A nice inn which serves a variety of dishes with an emphasis on sea foods Good ales on tap Food was generally well prepared and served - unfortunately the Quinoa in the salad was not as well cooked as it should have been - but otherwise all was good

We booked a table online. We arrived and the atmosphere was awful. The waiter was cocky and sarcastic. The service was very unprofessional. The worst service in Gairloch we have recieved. The food was a real let down. My icecream was crystalized and tasteless. There was no imagination to the presentation of the food and the calamari was undercooked. A waste of £100 for 3 meals, quite upset that the food was such a let down too. Wish we had gone somewhere else. It is not a good choice to visit, the whole place needs a new look, full of tat!!! No atmosphere..just awful.

Booked in here using the online form (which was handy) whilst staying in gairloch. Bit a of a strange pub and lay out with abit of a flat atmosphere but the food is incredible! I had the Cullen skink which I've never had before and wow it was beautiful. Wife had the smoked mackerel pate equally as delicious! I had the monkfish scampi, wife had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and my dad had the venison which made me a tad jealous to be honest. Great food do not miss out. On a side note I really don't like restaurants adding a service charge to the bill automatically! So beware of this as 10% really hikes the bill up if there's a few of you!

Whilst the pub itself seems a little tired and is a collection of many separate rooms, the food and service were great. Particularly yummy lemon meringue pie. Situated at the end of Gairloch Harbour you can also do some lovely walks straight from the pub door.

Dropped in for dinner and it was very acceptable. They add a tip to your bill. I don't like that and would sooner tip what I think it was worth. It displays a lack of confidence in the product to clag it on your bill.

Had a very nice meal, I had the burger and my partner had the salmon salad. Excellent combination of flavours and a dining experience I have not experienced in a very long time. The chocolate orange tarts were amazing. If you want fine dining not at Michelin star prices the Old Inn at Gairloch is the place to go. All credit to the chef, kitchen staff and Andy behind the bar. Will hopefully be there again soon.

Booked in for one night as we did the NC500. Check in was on time, no earlier. We were shown the room which was acceptable except that the double was two twin beds put together. Comfortable enough night but we were very tired. A dog bed and bowl was put in the room for our dog which was a nice touch. I found the menu to be a bit limited and the Scottish meze was really overpriced for what was spread around the slate board. Its a good job my husband wasn't starving. Although they ask you to order your breakfast items the night before, which we did, there was no record of it the next morning. It didn't matter as you were left to help yourself anyway. I had some porridge at breakfast which was very nice. Staff were generally friendly.

We ate here twice during our two week stay in Gairloch and the food was delicious both times. We had the venison burger, the monkfish scampi and fish and chips. All our meals were well presented and flavoursome. The service was very good considering there was only one member of staff at lunchtime who was both serving drinks at the bar and food at tables. He was friendly and chatty. The pub has been nicely done up and dogs are welcome in the bar area. We did the nearby waterfall walk too which is spectacular and the harbour and shops are nearby too.

We called in on the off chance on a bank holiday Monday after Easter for dinner and we were so happy with our choice. Lovely staff, fantastic food. We had the herring for starter, venison stew with mash, and venison steak. All cooked perfectly. Exactly want we needed; comforting, warming and friendly, (and I really appreciated the music). The menu was limited but it was the end of the bank holiday weekend and quite honestly, I'd rather go to a restaurant where you have a few very well cooked choices than a huge range of shoddy dishes.

We were staying in the area and decided to wander down to The Old Inn on Easter Monday evening for a bite to eat. It’s a lovely traditional pub by the waters edge. We were met with a very friendly welcome. It had obviously been a very busy weekend but the staff were still happy and smiling! Due to the bank holiday rush there had been some menu changes, and a couple of dishes were not available but this was explained. What we did have off the specials menu was delicious! A special thank you for making a child’s portion of the monkfish scampi. It made my son’s day and he loved it so much he ate half of his dad’s too!

We visited Mid-August, not long after restaurants started to re-open for trade. Booking wasn't easy, as they had limited tables available, but we were advised that they did walk-ins from 16:30, when we called about 16:00. However, when we arrived about 16:40, we were told that they were only open to pre-bookings. The staff did seem somewhat unsure about procedures and we overheard several discussions about what they should be doing. I think this was just down to trying to comply with the latest rules.Thankfully, they were able to accomodate us in the small room off the bar though, when we explained that we had called less than an hour before.Food was very good, as was the service.

Apparently there was a white wine and garlic sauce. No finger bowl provided - on requesting one, we received an empty dessert bowl from a rather confused looking waitress. The langoustine was simply appalling. Texture like mashed potato. We provided this feedback to the on duty manager who didn't seem particularly concerned. On the plus side, we had an excellent bottle of muscadet - it was just too good for the poor quality of seafood.Overall, very disappointing.

The best part of the evening was sitting outside having a pre-dinner drink. Staff would benefit from further, or even some, training. Simple things like removing empty glasses and plates when asked if we were enjoying our meal. We asked a young waitress for a finger bowl, as we were having shellfish, and she returned with an empty bowl. The langoustines were the worst we’ve ever tasted. All of them were mushy and tasted vile. Poor response by management when this was highlighted.

We had to walk through the small lounge area where there was a beautiful fire crackling in the grate - gorgeous! We were shown to our seat, a booth made of large wooden settle type seating, very cosy. The menu was really good and we chose lovely, local grilled haddock (me) and the haggis stack with drambuie sauce (my husband). Both dishes came out promptly and were cooked to perfection. My husband then had the sticky toffee pudding and declared it superb. I had vanilla ice cream with crumbly, home made shortbread. All in all a really excellent meal out. We have eaten here on numerous occasions on past visits and came for a 'simple lunch'. The main dishes are in our opinion very expensive for what they are. Most are around £15. Even vegetarian choices seem pricey for what you get. We had hoped for a sandwich menu but they only had three toasties on offer - one of which was halloumi cheese based. They don't seem to cater for vegan small casual meals. The place itself is lovely - right by the stream that flows by and there are very pleasant outside tables. Waren im Pubteil essen. Gutes Essen, Portionen mittel, Preis etwas teuer. Spetitiv und guter Service.

Went here for dinner whilst on a tour of the highlands. I had a fish pie, that was very basic, just fish in cheese sauce, accompanied by the tiniest portion of vegetables I've ever been served and they were undercooked. Other half had a meat pie. He said the meat part was ok, but instead of a pastry top, there was just a strip of pastry balanced on the dish. Not sure if the chef was trying to be artistic, but it just looked stingy. He also got a teeny portion of vegetables. Scottish waitress was lovely, but the rest of the staff seemed to be surly Eastern European girls who barely spoke English. Food was definitely not worth the price.

As far as lunch was concerned we found this very poor value and the food underwhelming. Scampi for £14.50 was served on the corner of a flat plate, a clutch of skinny fries and a spoonful of peas. A small dollop of tartare sauce. Nothing more. Completely unimaginative. At £14.50 I was expecting a little more, perhaps chunky fries (ideally so many that I had to leave some), some garnish, a nicely presented/basket meal. It was not to be. Most of the mains seemed to be around £15, of higher. Scallops £24. My wife and I both had scampi, my son a pizza. Ordinary and underwhelming. Didn't feel full or satisfied afterwards. I guess they're hoping you buy dessert also.... however we didn't. Add in a couple of cokes and a shandy and what was a very simple lunch ended up at £46 thank you very much. Hardly good value and I didn't leave thinking "I must come back", which for me is not a good sign. I'm in Gairloch every year on holiday but there's better value. Sorry but won't be back. I grudgingly paid up and left. It's a shame as the ambience is fine and the waiting staff pleasant.

As regular visitors to the area we knew of the Old Inn a beautiful setting and from the sample menus on line, the promise of a good menu. On a previous visit to Gairloch we'd promised to sample the delights of the Old Inn on our next trip.

A really disappointing experience which was ultimately caused by unpleasant and poor service. Despite other issues such as arriving to our booking and having to wait for tables and menus, what left a bitter as opposed to the relatively sweet taste of the actual food left was inaccurate menu descriptions and poor customer service. For example, the soup which claimed to have 4 different types of seafood (and nothing else..), contained only shrimps and potatoes. Despite, stopping our consumption of this concoction upon discovery of this apparent mix up and raising the point, there was no apology or replacement or even refund.... In a similar manner a main course which claimed to contain “dumplings” (note the plural) and omitted any mention of potatoes, was served with a singular dumpling and plenty of potatoes.. Ironically, the surprise accompaniment of potatoes weren’t cooked and had to be sent back at our request (as no one had checked if the meal was okay).. There was no apology and again the inconvenience caused by having to eat our meals of different times was not reflected by any reduction in the bill or other gesture. The irony was the food actually served was fairly good but just be cautious you may be served something you didn’t order and will be wasting your breath challenging the supreme powers that be..

On the North Coast 500 route, we stayed and ate here for a night. Rooms were fine if a wee bit old fashioned. Restaurant and bar were very good. Lots of tasty local produce, cooked well and served by pleasant staff. Great range of local beers too. There are not many places to eat around these parts and this is the best in the area!

Tasty food though would have liked to eat in the restaurant. Shame the fish pie on the menu that listed local fish and prawns had no prawns! Told the bar staff but didn’t he seem bothered . Now worries we will go elsewhere this holiday. Shame

Really impressed with this restaurant cum inn in Gairloch. All three courses I had were excellent, particularly the shellfish bisque and the clootie dumpling. It is not the usual experience to have six or seven different types of shellfish in the bisque. The menu had an extensive range of seafood with about 6 specials as well. Really nice ambience too with a waiting area outside with a warm fire. Bar looked inviting too - pity about having to drive. Would strongly recommend

Staying at the nearby Dornoch Caravan and Camping site we walked into Dornoch for a meal. We chose The Coach House because it is dog friendly. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

The fab cinnamon buns elevated our coffee stop from great to awesome! Other really yummy cakes are available. Oh, and the vegan tomato pizza swirl looked great too if you fancy a savoury.

A total shambles. Sunday carvery .couldn't eat any of the meat as mostly fat.Plates so small you can't get much else on the plate.waitress saw me trying to catch her attention and hid .eventually came over sheepish with bill and at that point looked at all the fatty meat on plate and her response was sorry about that .we then never say any staff .They had vanished into kitchen .On our way out there was a lady who had mobility issues annoyed there was no disabled access just a set of very steep stairs .£24 each for 2 courses and only starter choice was soup.Dont waste your time .
