Very disappointed this time. I had been before and agree that the scones are lovely, usually. This time my scone had been microwaved and was red hot and rubbery. I mentioned it to the staff so hopefully this won't happen again.

Gorgeous little cafe. We ordered a variety of hot drinks, scones and teacakes. My husband said it was the best scone he had ever eaten. Beautifully warm served with clotted cream and jam. Busy but the waitresses do a grand job of clearing the tables. Lovely staff. Friendly and helpful. A wonderful little place to while away a couple of hours eating delicious food.

The fact that you have to book a table tells you everything! We had a brunch here yesterday. For years, people have told me that the reason eggs benedict is not hot is due to the sauce potentially splitting.... this place served it hot, nothing was split and it was just fantastic. Today, we rocked up after a very long and hilly walk and had a cream tea with a completely new jam type. Awesome. The ladies who run this know their local stuff and could not have been more friendly and happy to swe us. We loved it and would like to say an enormous thank you to them for the perfect food and ambience. Superstars

A welcome sanctuary on a warm and busy day in Chagford. The café is a small, charming space with a modern but classic tea room atmosphere. The cream tea was excellent, fresh homemade scones served warm with delicious whortleberry jam and plenty of refreshing proper leaf tea. We also purchased some of the home made cakes to takeaway which were delicious!! Would highly recommend if visiting the village.

Looking for a bite to eat before golf at Bovey Castle we discovered the Old Forge Cafe. What a find! We all had a toasted Bloomer with avocado, mushrooms and a poached egg, all cooked to absolute perfection…..my colleagues added sausages. Probably the best breakfast of our 5 day golfing break with excellent, friendly service to go with it. We were tempted to go back in the afternoon for a cream tea, which also looked first class but unfortunately ran out of time. I was worried the The Old Forge Caffe in Chagford had become a victim of COViD as it was closed last time I drive past .. not so . Very much open and felt very safe .. After a lovely walk along the river at Chagford I can’t think of a better place to come for a Devon Cream Tea ... scones are the best I have had (and I wrote that last time as well .. so consistent) served with a choice of Strawberry and WhortleBerry (wild blue berry ) jams . We also had a piece of a Pear, Apple and Almond Sponge cake - assume home made . It was gorgeous Would thoroughly recommend and one of these days will go for lunch and explore what their food is like - Plate of the Day was Grilled Fresh Salmon and sounded lovely

As an owner of a thriving B&B I recommend the Old Forge to many of my guests. I visited today to assess the place for myself and was very disappointed with the service and the food. I ordered the Moroccan marinated skewer dish, only to be told they can only do one skewer as they’ve ran out of chicken. I was told I could have extra tabbouleh instead to which I agreed. However, to my surprise they served the dish with two skewers of pork with two tiny pieces of chicken. Firstly I did not request the pork skewers as I do not eat pork and the tabbouleh was hard to spot on the plate. Overall a very disappointing experience! I would be reluctant to refer future guests of mine to The Old Forge!

Staying in Chagford for a long weekend it was time for cream tea. Walking around the town we came across the Old Forge, just off the square looked like a good place. We opted for the half cream tea (1 scone) and glad that we did as the scone was huge and best we have ever tasted. The choice of jams were equally delicious and the cream just as it should be, we opted for the breakfast tea, but there is a large choice or you can opt for coffee if you wish. We’re back at this lovely tea room and the fresh baked scones are as good as ever. This place is a little gem in the countryside. Fresh scones and home made jams and endless fresh tea from very welcoming hosts. What a pleasure. Thanks Vince and Sara.

Delicious, homemade scones and jam. One of the best cream teas we've had. Very friendly staff. Dog friendly too. Good prices. Definitely worth a visit.

Warm welcome, good local food and nice surroundings - everything you could want from a local cafe. I'd particularly recommend the English breakfast with yummy proper sausages and bacon serviced with toast jams and butters - good value for the quality and quantity. The only thing to flag is the menu shown on their website may vary and this isn't clear - its due to seasonal changes - which is great - but don't go expecting to see all the same dishes as the website.

Always visit the Courtyard when we go to Chagford. Popped in for lunch. Very warm welcome by the owner. We could make up our mind but helpfully it was suggested that we share a Mediterranean sandwich as i was not that hungry , then was afbised to share a cream tea.

We stoped in on our way home. Great full English breakfast, pancakes and bubble & squeak. All four kids gave it a big thumbs up. Friendly service in a pretty location. Nice to have loose tea for a change.

Excellent find. We needed a room for one night. Can't find one fault on this little gem. Our Room was very comfortable and extremely clean throughout. We had an evening meal here. Wow! Excellent is an understatement and as for their Beer it was Nye on perfect. The staff were so welcoming and cheerful and really made you feel comfortable. 10/10 Thank you Blue Lion 🦁😍❤️

This restaurant was popular, but, being quite small, has CLOSED at this spot, but HAS MOVED to FORE STREET about 300 yards to the East, near the East Okement River, and its name has changed to " The Allotment ", as it uses food all supplied locally. I highly recommend it for a smiley welcome & good wholesome food. Now sells jams & preserves.

Came here back in May this year and had a fantastic lunch with a warm welcome and excellent service so decided to return for another birthday celebration as we were so impressed before. Regretfully this time round it was no where near the same. As we were a big group (8 of us) we had to pre-order the food - fair enough. On arrival there wasn't great welcome and it then took about 15 minutes before coming to take our drinks order. When serving our drinks and opening the wine, the poor waiter was distracted by another customer and didn't follow though in continuing to open the bottle (which the bottle opener was half way through) so we had to finish that. Then, the food was another half an hour or so after that meaning we had been there for about 45 minutes already - bearing mind this was pre-ordered and you are limited on how long you can have the table for. When the food arrived, it was absolutely embarrassing - the portion sizes were like that of a snack. This wasn't tapas, it was an insult. The sourdough bread is £5.10 per portion and all it is is literally 4/5 slices of very small baguette bread. The so called "small-plates" were indeed VERY small. Some dishes lacked seasoning and were also bland - different or new chef perhaps? So be very cautious when ordering your food - our bill was £326.00 and we left hungry and very disappointed. Before in May we were stuffed. I have also read other people's reviews saying similar things so please do take note. It's clear the staff are either new or need training - by all means they were not rude at all, but inexperienced. We did leave them a tip out of courtesy however and didn't want to cause a fuss and complain on the day. Sadly we will not be returning, which is a real shame. Wish they had kept the same flair as before.

Food was delicious - but the pidgin had the bullet still in it. When i raised it to the waiter they said lucky i didn't crack my teeth ... they still charged me for the started
