Called in for lunch, excellent as always.

Came here with my wife for the restaurant. Pleased with the food. Very well presented and tasted good. Portion sizes are good too. Had starter and main and was full with no room for dessert. Would say the restaurant could have been heated a little more.

Incredible experience from start to finish. Staff were welcoming and so polite. My husband had booked for my birthday and a birthday card was on our table, which was a really lovely touch. The food was stunning. Worth every penny and we will be back.

First visit to the Dartmoor Inn. It totally lived up to expectation and local reputation. We were looked after by Wren whom we thank sincerely for such lovely, professional and kind service. Starter and mains were superb and all accompanying sides, sauces etc were just beautiful. Steak cooked just right !! Pretty much everything is locally sourced as well as a little further across the region. The menu explains everything nicely giving you a real confidence in what you’re ordering. An excellent Dartmoor location with a cosy atmosphere and plenty of parking at the rear. The restaurant also boasts a well stocked bar and is supported by an excellent and appropriately priced wine list. There are rooms to stay in but we live locally so can’t comment further but at first glance it all looks great. Thank you to Chef and the team for a wonderful anniversary evening for us. Looking forward to our next visit.

I had the most amazing Birthday lunch here with my family . The food was all amazingly well cooked .The best risotto that I have had , outside of Italy . Lovely service and people . We will definitely be back .

We stayed here on a Sunday night on our way to Cornwall for a short break. The accommodation was first class and just what was required after the drive down. Booked dinner for the evening and was not in any way disappointed. Food was excellent as was the choice on the wine list. Throughout our stay the staff attention was second to none and we would highly recommend for food and accommodation. In fact we were so impressed that we stopped off here again for lunch on our return journey.

Thoroughly enjoyed an evening at the Dartmoor inn. One of the best meals we’ve had this year. The welcome was warm and friendly. The food is a cut above. Everything was very well prepared and had bags of flavour. What made it extra special was the professionalism of the staff. A great team who did a fantastic job in ensuring we had a really memorable evening. Don’t hesitate to eat here.

This must be the best place to eat in the Tavistock area! The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were superb. It’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It was great to see the locally sourced menu extended to the drinks’ selection as well. It’s quite pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Thoroughly recommended!

Superb pub with 3 rooms. Wife and I stayed here whilst on short cycling tour. Secure lock up for bikes in wood shed - we actually had to leave early the next morning so staff very kindly allowed us to leave bikes in one of the dining rooms for us to leave promptly. Very accommodating! What sets this place apart is the food - quite simply some of the best food I have ever eaten. I can highly recommend the wood pigeon and venison. A must if you’re a foodie!

Excellent. Wedding anniversary 💕 lunch. 49 years...a whole life sentence!

Four of us - two couples - spent one night here for dinner bed and breakfast. Every member of staff exudes cheerfulness, nothing is too much trouble for them - their "raison d'etre" is to please --it's so refreshing and quite frankly very unusual ! Everywhere and every thing is spotlessly clean - the bedrooms are spacious and lovely with all the usual trimmings including "proper" coffee ! Dinner was beautifully cooked and presented - way above the usual "pub grub" and a real credit to the chef/patron Jay who, with his wife Tess, are obviously extremely hard working and thoroughly deserving of all the praise which comes their way. Places like this are rare today - the charming owners, the staff, the position, the ambience and the food - all top notch - we do hope to return!

Today we had a marvellous lunch at the Dartmoor Inn. Hubby had a starter of Scallops with chorizo and red pepper, I had Plymouth Gin Cured Sea Trout with avocado, pickled cucumber and dill. Hubby had Cider braised pork belly and I had Atlantic Cod. We followed with Affogato. It was all delicious with excellent service and a lovely ambiance. Will be back

Called into The Dartmoor Inn on our way home to Cornwall. The food and service were second to none as always.

We have eaten here once before, and it was good enough for us to come back the next time we were in the area! I was recently diagnosed with coeliac disease, and the staff went above and beyond with explaining what I could have that was GF, and even went into the possibilities of which items may have cross contamination, and which items definitely wouldn’t. The food was 10/10, and the staff were brilliant. We will absolutely be returning the next time we are in West Country!!

Lovely Sunday dinner! The beef was perfectly cooked, gravy very rich, vegetables perfectly cooked. Staff very friendly aswell. I think the food is well worth the price.

Visited this evening with my partner for our anniversary. The staff were very welcoming to ourselves and our dog. The food was amazing! And for the price... we're used to paying nearly 160 for food that doesn't even reach the mark that was reached this evening. Utterly divine! My partner fell in love with the peppercorn sauce. He wasn't too keen on coming this way on holiday again but I think you have definitely twisted his arm

What a lovely hotel with a magnificent restaurant and a well stocked bar! The staff were all kind and attentive throughout, such a credit to the business. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was absolutely fantastic and the breakfast was to die for! The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the amenities were first rate. What a relaxing little gem nestled in the Devon countryside

This was our second “special occasion” meal hosted by the Dartmoor Inn over the last 6 months and both have been superb. The venue was perfect, the food and wine first class and the customer service second to none. It was a perfect evening and we are extremely grateful to Tess, Jay and all the staff at the Dartmoor Inn for making it so memorable.

What a wonderful find! We stopped off at the Dartmoor Inn on our way to Tavistock and we were so glad we did. A wonderful warm welcome for us (and our dog) and the best fish and chips we’ve had in a long time! Can see why the reviews are so good for this amazing pub. Really enjoyed our meals here and even our little dog found it relaxing and loved the little treats given to him by the one of the lovely servers. We will definitely return when next in the area and recommend to all. Many thanks and please let the chef know the fish and chips were top notch!

Had a meal here on a Saturday with my partner and our dog. Staff are amazing! Super friendly and attentive. Really cool decor and nice inside and out. Classic country pub. The menu was amazing, wine list also and great beers on tap. I had pork belly and it was stupendous. Partner had a burger and equally epic. Amazing food. Brilliantly presented also - mine looked like a work of art! Deffo coming back here. Also super dog friendly.

A visit for Sunday Lunch, one word, incredible. This is how a Roast Dinner should be done, the flavours were top and the Beef was some of the best I have had. The service was fantastic, the atmosphere is great, decent price oh and a great pint of Dartmoor Ale. We managed to have a chat with the Chef before we left and it's clear how much attention goes into creating such an amazing Roast Dinner. To top it off, we went for a nice walk around the River Lyd behind the pub on the Moor after. All in all a fantastic visit and we cant wait to go back to try more of the menu! Highly Recommended!

Review for the restaurant. The food here was absolutely superb, possibly the best restaurant we've eaten at in West Devon. It's understandably popular so you need to book well in advance. It's got a lovely traditional atmosphere and the menu is the usual English pup fare, but the execution is outstanding. The standout dish was the asparagus and poached egg, one of the best things I've ever eaten. The venison was also excellent, though our whole party were equally impressed with their meals. The service was also perfect, and they had a good drinks selection with plenty of alcohol free options as well as an extensive wine list. This place is very expensive, but for the quality of food and experience it was well worth it.

Agree with all of the 5 star reviews. Very tasteful and well decorated interior greets you as you enter. Friendly attentive staff and lots of different areas to sit. The food is exceptional even for a gastropub. Beautifully presented on interesting china too. Definitely more than worthy of Michelin guide status. The wine (Primitivo) was fabulous too. We will be back!

Serendipitous visit. I just happened to be nearby and did a search for dog friendly places. Excellent menu for the four of us. My dog enjoyed his biscuits and the rest of us each chose different meals. If I'm in the area again, I'll work my way through the rest of the menu.

We came here for my partner's birthday and had a wonderful time! The wine was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced, especially for the quality. We're both vegetarian and the food was amazing! Lots of vegetarian options and each one we tried was better than the last! Would highly recommend for a special meal ☺️

Food here was beyond expectations. The starter and main courses were perfect in terms of taste, presentation and intrigue. We had the smoked haddock arancini and smoked duck toast to start. The arancini had such depth of flavour and an excellent texture that can sometimes be lacking. The smoked duck toast came with foraged mushrooms, a creamy sauce and little rolled up slices of perfectly cooked smoked duck. The pork main came with pork belly, nicely rendered to a satisfying bite, and just pink tenderloin, along with complimentary accompaniments such as a light red cabbage. The venison was excellently cooked and topped a haunch ragu which was an excellent surprise, and almost like a second main course in one. The crispy kale was surprisingly tasty, and the butternut squash puree kept everything bright. All of the above for a competitive pricing for quality of food deserving of its place in the Michelin guide over the past few years. We wouldn't hesitate to return instead of trying any new restaurants if we came back to the area.

Great place for posh pub food. Portions aren't huge but just right if you have a starter, main and dessert. The food I had was perfect, as was the service. You do pay a bit more, but the food is high quality. I'll be going back.

An exceptional meal, including one of the best fish courses ever. Measured and V professional staff (who even learnt the kids names, a lovely touch) superb ingredients and cooking. All in all a really good stop off and well worth ten mins off the A30!

The lady at the bar was really friendly and professional as she was aware of our allergens and sorted it out perfectly with no issue. Unfortunately they forgot to bring the bread and butter that we ordered before out mains even they were late. We understood the situation as they were clearly short of staff. The mushroom risotto was absolutely a delight. Loved it

A superb treat for a birthday meal with family and friends. 8 of us had delicious food and all perfectly cooked and presented we couldn’t fault anything. We had a room to ourselves with a wonderful log fire. It’s a beautiful warm and welcoming pub with a great atmosphere. Hoping to be back soon.

Delightful inn. Lovely owners and staff, so friendly and welcoming. Very comfortable bedroom. Everything is generous and geared to making guests feel welcome. Quality teas, coffee, toiletries … no skimping anywhere. The food is an absolute treat. We had a delicious supper by a cosy log fire. My dietary requirements were no problem and my meal was delicious, as was my husband’s. Breakfast too was really good and so nicely presented. Highly recommend the Dartmoor Inn.

You expect the food to be good, it is, very much so. Hearty, clever pub food using local, high welfare ingredients. Priced fairly for the quality, courses are £2-3 more than the norm for your average local pub, but deserve to be. The fish and chips was superb, but the whole menu was full of things you’d actually want to eat. Staff are charming and attentive, without being overbearing. What’s lovely is that the place isn’t ‘Michelin’ posh, in spite of its status and great food. It’s simply an honest local pub renovated and run with great care and attention to detail. It doesn’t make you feel like you’ve got to dress up / behave / stand to attention. You can relax and it feels homely. Our two dogs were made welcome, we look forward to going back soon

Number 1 for a reason...it is great here. Skip the Tavistock restaurant and eat here instead. The staff is well trained and the food is always good.

Family Sunday lunch for 60th birthday celebration (thank you for the birthday card, a kind touch). Our party had the best time! Food was perfect (the sirloin and the pork was melt in the mouth and the cauliflower cheese was on another level!) Deserts were really good, recommend the sticky toffee pud and chocolate pot! Good beer too! The ladies who served us were lovely, welcoming and brilliant with the 2 young children in our party The time spent here was most enjoyable and we would all absolutely recommend eating here No complaints at all, looking forward to returning in the near future Recommend a walk around nearby Meldon Reservoir followed by lunch!

Just had Sunday lunch - best pub Sunday roast we’ve ever had (we’re 70 years old so have tasted plenty before!). Excellent quality food, hot and delicious- as good as being at home. Excellent efficient waiting staff too 👍👍. Would give it more stars 🌟 if it were possible. Wish it was my local but, alas, it’s not!

Our first visit to the Dartmoor Inn for lunch with friends. Excellent from start to finish. We had high expectations from reading the reviews and it did not disappoint. The pub is cosy but modern with a really clean, bright feel to it. Lovely rooms with tables well spaced. The staff were all very attentive, polite and welcoming. The food was stunning, well presented, fresh and so delicious. Only one tiny criticism, the fish dishes could have done with more potatoes. Sticky toffee pudding was out of this world. Good choice of wines and cocktails. And they are dog friendly, always a bonus. After lunch we went for a walk up to the nearby Tor, amazing. We can’t wait to return, we have booked for Boxing Day! Hoping for the open fire to be roaring and the Christmas decs up! They well deserve 5 stars.

Fabulous food, service and company

Great food, but the service was weird and disjointed. It was fifteen minutes before we could order, our attempts and trying to do so were rebuffed, a half hour before we had drinks, etc. There didn't seem to be any coordination between the servers. Dessert looked tempting, but we coldly find a server to order--but when we left through the bar, we saw her on her knees, petting a dog.

We stopped here for breakfast on our way home after a weeks holiday. It was lovely with generous amounts of food and it set us up for the drive home. Highly recommend!

I n c r e d i b l e food. Just lovely, easily the nicest fish dish I've ever had. We loved talking to one of the owners and learning how they set up the place and the care and attention that goes into it. Cannot recommend this place enough. Excellent food, excellent service and the in-laws paid for it.

Stayed overnight enjoying dinner and breakfast at the Inn. Both meals were delicious, particularly the trout entree for dinner. Room was comfortable and good size, staff working were very pleasant and helpful. Wonderful stay and would gladly return.

The food was fantastic. Not unreasonable prices for the quality at all. I would highly recommend for lunch we will be back perhaps to try the evening..

We had a lovely evening at this family run pub catching up with friends, service and staff, very good, plenty of menu choice. We all really enjoyed our food, everything excellent quality. From a value for money point of view, my only feedback would be when paying £30 for a steak, would expect some vegetables more than new potatoes & watercress on the plate, even if just some peas!

Having lived in Dartmoor for over 11 years, I'm disappointed that this was our first visit to the Dartmoor Inn! We had an outstanding dinner, the food was incredible, expertly prepared with fantastic flavours. The staff were super helpful and always on-hand, making a brilliant evening all-round.

We had one of the best pub meals ever! Don't confuse it with the other nearby "organic" Dartmoor Inn which seems to come up more regularly on a "Google" search.

Another spot on treat shared with friends. We all had amazingly, beautiful plates of food and all were left wanting to come again to sample the other plates but at the same time wouldn't swap, as what we had was so amazing. This is still...

My wife and I had lunch at The Dartmoor Inn and we were both blown away by the quality of the food on offer it was simply outstanding!! My wife is a vegetarian so usually only has one choice of stater and main meal but...

Wow, what a find. I am local(ish) but stayed with friends travelling through overnight and we were blown away. The food is to die for, exquisite. Wine list imaginative and full and the staff so friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, well-equipped and spotless. Cannot recommend highly enough.
