This restaurant was popular, but, being quite small, has CLOSED at this spot, but HAS MOVED to FORE STREET about 300 yards to the East, near the East Okement River, and its name has changed to " The Allotment ", as it uses food all supplied locally. I highly recommend it for a smiley welcome & good wholesome food. Now sells jams & preserves.

We stopped off here and had a vegan hot chocolate with our lunch. The vegan hot chocolate was better than most 'normal' hot chocolates that I've had, so I was very impressed! The food also was very nice, not entirely filling, but a decent sized lunch.

A small, very friendly & welcoming venue. You can sit alone at a table & just start chatting to another stranger, thus breaking down barriers between people. Drinks are delicious & nothing is too much bother to the Lady there. Nice nibbles to buy at reasonable prices. The Shop Title comes from the Lady's youth when it became a family nickname, Smiles here are FREE !

Neither of us are vegan or even veggie. We do like good food though and the breakfast casserole we had was simply delicious. Rich, hearty, warming and pretty different to most things you'll find on any menu. Nice quirky feel to the place too.

We arrived in Okehampton on the Saturday, had read reviews of this vegan restaurant before we left so planned to stop in for a coffee before check in at our Air BnB. Unfortunately we couldn’t all fit in as the establishment only sits 10 people. So we regrouped, let the week pass, contacted the owner (who was delightful) and booked ourselves in for the Friday morning. As we had a group of 9, she closed the restaurant for breakfast so we had exclusive use for the first 2.5 hours. The food itself was amazing! Between our group we had a mixture of the evolving menu. We enjoyed the full hog, the breakfast yogurt bowl, and the crumpets! All of them delicious! As a group we also enjoyed a selection of hot and cold drinks. When we left none of the plates or bowls were burdened by left overs, clear plates as far as the eye could see. I used the phrase evolving menu because when we asked to see the menu before we booked, Rebecca was unable to fulfil this request as she didn’t know what vegetables she would have from the allotment that morning! Perfect! This is a restaurant I would highly recommend to anyone, vegan or otherwise, in the local area. The food was filling and delicious. The host was fabulous. The cakes were cracking.

This is a tiny place with personal service and passionate cooking so don't be in a hurry at busy times. Our plates were works of art at very fair prices. Real plant based foodie eating. No toilets but wander to Spoons close by. Well done to this engaging Cafe, we would like to try everything on the menu.

A really great find. Lovely, friendly cafe with a fantastic range of vegetarian food. I had the smoked beans on toast, which were delicious, so full of flavour. My husband had a gorgeous Mediterranean tart with a salad which he said was beautiful. And to top it off a donation is made to a local charity with every purchase. We will definitely come back if we’re in the area.

We spent a few days near Okehampton and had already found the cafe on the internet. The place is cute with lots to see and read and we had a pleasant chat with the lovely lady who owns the cafe while we enjoyed our vegan drinks. We are sad that we live too far away to drop by regularly (Germany :-/) but if we ever manage to stay again in that area, a visit to Mooplehog and the helpful owner is a definite must!!

We were looking for somewhere to have a late lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. The outside of the cafe caught our eye as we drove through Okehampton, so quickly parked and went inside. Had a lovely welcoming feel.Lots of tasty things on the menu but chose to have the veggie soup which turned out to be thick, delicious and in a huge bowl with a roll. Very filling! We hung around afterwards and had a great chat with the owner who shared her food sourcing ethics and how she came to start the cafe. though we live in Cornwall would definitely go there again when in the area. Great find! Thank you!

This is a small intimate and friendly café, which I can truly recommend as delicious and a great place to recharge your batteries. A place where people with dietary requirements can relax and enjoy being treated to having all their needs catered for. Eat a meal that is tailored for you! Then it’s served up to you in beautiful colours and flavours. Their dairy free hot chocolate is the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted. We have always enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and everyone in the café joins in for a friendly natter so it’s a lovely place to meet people or just be part of an interesting conversation. There are loads of amazing cookbooks to look through and you can learn loads of tips on preparing delicious alternative cuisine. A big bonus to the menus are the raw cakes, which not only very yum but you can indulge yourself and get away with minimal calories!

Quirky but wonderful interior. Good quality food and friendly staff. No toast was available as there was a problem with their electricity. However, at nearly a tenner for a tea, hot chocolate and two slices of cake, I was not impressed seeing that for the same amount we could've got two decent brekkies elsewhere.

We visited mooplehog today and came away with some tasty homemade vegan pizza and some vegan chocolate cake. You would never know that unfortunately they are suffering some electrical problems that should be sorted by the end of next week. The owner is still open but has a limited hot menu. There are lots of hot and cold drinks available including a delicious orange juice, arrowroot and ginger and black pepper drink. Lots of cakes and three different soups today including beetroot and kale - yum. The owner is lovely and has only been open since September, her warm character is reflected in the homely decor and she sells vegan cream too! Having grown up close to Okehampton I was so happy and excited to find Mooplehog when visiting family recently! It really is a little hidden gem and perfect whether you're vegan or not. Being vegan myself it was so refreshing to be in a cafe and not have to worry about what I can or cannot order, the menu choices were amazing with lots of coffee's, homemade cakes, soups and main meals, everything is cooked fresh too. The cakes are some of the best homemade bakes I've had (even before I went vegan!), so good we even went back the next day for more takeout slices to take on our walk! I highly recommend the carrot cake and blueberry & lemon cake! We received a very warm welcome with lots of chats about vegan cooking and baking which was lovely. Looking forward to the next trip to sample the main meals soon! This is a must stop for any Dartmoor visitor.

I went to Mooplehog because one of our party is vegan, however I came away deciding it’s the number 1 place for foodies in Okehampton. It’s very reasonably priced too at 8/9 for a main course, and what was served was a feast for the eyes as well in lovely colourful bowls that were all differeny patterned, really beautiful. The interior seats 12 arranged in 3 tables for 4, and everywhere there are ingenious decorative touches and a genuinely stylish array of items for sale. The service is low key and informal. The menu comes as a stack of hand written flash cards to sort into piles to help you decide if you like, and helps the owners to not have to keep rewriting a black board when things run out! Everything is made fresh and tasted it. I’ll be going back.

This small, friendly establishment beckoned yesterday. Welcomed on arrival, and then a choice of drinks and meals. I chose the chai and a delicious meal topped with roasted veg. It was so worth the completely reasonable 20 minutes as it was prepared from scratch. Very tasty, well-seasoned and filling. Kept me going for the rest of the day. Desserts were two amazing raw cakes; chocolate/walnut and carrot. I also had a really thick hot apple drink with cinnamon. It was good food with the mains cooked to order. The premises is transitioning from a gifte shop to a vegan cafe and there are still some gift things around. I found this lovely little cafe on the Happy Cow website when I was researching places to eat before going on holiday in Devon. It had only been open for 2 weeks! The owner is lovely - very friendly and a great cook. There is a small, but imaginative, menu because she prepares everything (except some of the cakes) herself, using locally grown organic produce. At busy times, be prepared to wait a little for your food.Eating there made my holiday, and Rebecca advised us on local places to visit. Although the cafe is tiny, it's dog friendly, which made it even better. The decor is fun, too. Closed Weds but open at the weekends.

This tiny shop in Okehampton is a "Must" to visit. Very friendly owner who can tell you a story about ALL her stock. And if you are stuck for something to get for a present, just tell her the age the gender, what kind of things they like and she will point you into the right direction and you end up finding something you hadn't even seen! All very reasonably priced. It is a pure Aladdins Cave of quality goods, all either locally sourced or through ethically approved channels. It really is one of my favourite shops in Okehampton. Need to go in again very soon, but need to make sure I don't go overboard again. But hey! everyone loved their presents last time, so I may just go in and spend on myself this time :-)

I visited Okehampton today and came across this little gem by sheer chance; and I'm so glad I did! When I first walked in, I was greeted by a very freindly shop assistant (who turned out to be the owner). I thought, "This is nice". A good range of cute, different and very fairly priced gifts and goodies. I bought some vanilla incense sticks, a cat-face pencil case and a hand made cushion. All for £20.What isn't obvious, or even evident, is that all the products in the shop are either locally sourced, or ethically sourced if not local. The shop owner searches for people who are at a disadvantage, around the world, who make the type of product she wants to sell, and buys from them. Some of the gifts were made by a family in Japan who were displaced. I took an immediate liking to this shop and I recommend you visit if you're in the area. Did I mention that the cushion I bought was hand made by local Okehampton residents living in sheltered housing due to the lack of work in Okehampton? The cushion is adorable, something of a style of its own; enough to compete with any of the big high Street brands! The shop owner is heavily involved in supporting the local community and is already coordinating events to help include the children from impoverished families in the local communities. She'll certainly help raise awareness in the community. Final thoughts: visit and buy some goodies. If you're only passing through Okehampton, or are just visiting the supermarkets, utilise your parking to the max; walk the 1 minute walk to this little gem!

Came here back in May this year and had a fantastic lunch with a warm welcome and excellent service so decided to return for another birthday celebration as we were so impressed before. Regretfully this time round it was no where near the same. As we were a big group (8 of us) we had to pre-order the food - fair enough. On arrival there wasn't great welcome and it then took about 15 minutes before coming to take our drinks order. When serving our drinks and opening the wine, the poor waiter was distracted by another customer and didn't follow though in continuing to open the bottle (which the bottle opener was half way through) so we had to finish that. Then, the food was another half an hour or so after that meaning we had been there for about 45 minutes already - bearing mind this was pre-ordered and you are limited on how long you can have the table for. When the food arrived, it was absolutely embarrassing - the portion sizes were like that of a snack. This wasn't tapas, it was an insult. The sourdough bread is £5.10 per portion and all it is is literally 4/5 slices of very small baguette bread. The so called "small-plates" were indeed VERY small. Some dishes lacked seasoning and were also bland - different or new chef perhaps? So be very cautious when ordering your food - our bill was £326.00 and we left hungry and very disappointed. Before in May we were stuffed. I have also read other people's reviews saying similar things so please do take note. It's clear the staff are either new or need training - by all means they were not rude at all, but inexperienced. We did leave them a tip out of courtesy however and didn't want to cause a fuss and complain on the day. Sadly we will not be returning, which is a real shame. Wish they had kept the same flair as before.
