Cream tea was very disappointing..dirty cups and a very long wait to be served. Plenty of other places for cream tea..avoid this tearoom/restaurant

Very disappointing experience. My mum was really looking forward to going here today to get an afternoon tea. The wait was quite a long time and had to send back two lots of tea cups as they were extremely dirty. The table cloth also hadn’t been changed and I took it off myself. Food and drinks were nice however our plates were cleared away even whilst we were finishing our scones. We had a pot of tea for two and my cup was cleared away and we still had tea left in the pot! Very poor customer service and we were not made to feel welcome, such a disappointing end to what was a lovely afternoon. We will not go back.

We called at the Old Farmhouse for breakfast, prior to visiting the Woodlanders exhibition (at Burley Village Hall). We were greeted at the entrance & a friendly young woman showed us in & gave us menus. I chose white bloomer toast with butter & marmalade (which turned out to be Tiptree!) Colonel Waffle opted for his customary bacon sandwich. I had an espresso & Colin chose tea. The food was simple but perfect. Colin’s sandwich was generously filled & my toast was crisp & golden. The tea was Yorkshire’s finest & my espresso was piping hot, with a lovely crema. Sitting in this quaint old cafe, with the spotless white cloth on the table, eating a lovely breakfast, sunny day outside. Just a lovely experience. The staff are attentive & pleasant. It’s a long time since our last visit to the Old Farmhouse but hopefully it won’t be so long until the next!

Giving five stars purely because of the offering of a gluten and dairy free scone (very difficult to find!) so thank you for that, it made my partners day! One thing let it down, we did order it dairy free and it came with clotted cream, so we paid the same for less. However we didn't say anything as my partner had already devoured half the scone at this point. My savoury cheese and chutney scone was amazing too, just what I needed. Thanks again and we will come back!

First of all the staff were great, efficient & friendly. The food was not up to the service provided; poached eggs on muffin with bacon. The muffins were soaking wet from the poaching of the eggs, which when cut provided even more water to the mix. The bacon was barely heated, certainly it could not be classed as anywhere near cooked. The place itself needs a little TLC & some soap in the gents WC would be a bonus. All in all a great disappointment for what was meant to be a nice breakfast visit. If it wasn’t for the lovely waitress it would have been a one star. I did advise of my disappointment.

Accidentally stumbled on this gem on Friday lunchtime whilst en route to Southampton. Beautiful place, full of charm and atmosphere (and low ceilings!) Staff we brilliant, very friendly and super efficient, the menu was nice and diverse and when it arrived, it did not disappoint. Excellent paninis and cream tea. Parking for patrons only (more parking nearby) and we were allowed to leave the car in their car park whilst we explored the rest of the village with its quaint horse and carriage rides and a plethora of witchcraft shops (amongst other interesting independent outlets). Inside and outside seating, it was just a magical experience.

Warm welcome from young overworked team member, Had a very good warmed scone, eventually served, staff young as mentioned and clearly ready to go home. The whole experience though disappointing, years ago a lovely clean Interesting venue, full of charm and character, now just functional, weeds growing well at side and back, sloppy and uncaring, come on people, why are standards disappearing?!

Took a detour here for lunch returning home from holiday in the Wimborne area. Parking was easy and there was plenty of seating both inside and outside. Staff were very friendly, took our orders promptly and returned with our food in no time. Don't know where the bad reviews have come from. Note of caution. Be on the lookout for loose cattle and ponies on the approach to this lovely place.

This place must have changed hands. The service was terrible 3 young people working - no idea of good service. We had 3 cream teas- only one scone which had been frozen. Tasted like doughy bread. Price £7.65 for one scone , a branded tub of cream and a small pot of jam and a drink. Very disappointed and this was a regular for our family as we are quite local. Only tip I would give - unless service and food improve find somewhere else… This place will always be busy given its location

As previous reviews from others, it's correct. Can't fault the food....when it eventually came, but service is very poor. Girl who took order looked like a deer in headlights, didn't seem to understand what was being said. 3 plates came out, had to send one back as incorrect changes hadn't been noted. My lunch didn't arrive at all, she hadn't written it down which is crazy as I said to her 4 meals and 4 drinks which she agreed to 🤷 No apologies whatsoever. Waited for bill which never came so had to go looking for someone. Dissapointing service

... a pity about the service. The restaurant wasn't overly busy. Plenty of available tables. We chose to sit outside and after checking we were told it was table service. Eventually someone came out after a 15-20 minute wait and took our order. Turns out there was a couple behind us who'd been waiting for 30 minutes... When the food came we were asked if we wanted cutlery. Said no but suggested having our drinks would be nice....' What did you order?' Drinks brought to us.... no sugars offered. Eating panini's? No napkins. Think there were only 2 staff working and all seemed very chaotic. When asking for the bill, the waitress said she was going to get the card machine and we never saw her again. At the risk of running out of parking, we ended up going inside to pay rather than wait. We don't mind doing that. What we mind is being told they'll come to us and then not appearing. Although the food tasted nice, a lack of good customer service unfortunately overrules and therefore it's questionable whether we'd go back.

Always a good breakfast albeit a little over priced. Hot drinks are served before the breakfast which means you have drank them before the breakfast arrives. Would prefer them to be served at the same time. A pot of coffee would be a nice touch rather than just a single cup. Or maybe offer a free top-up.

5 of us went to the tea rooms expecting to have breakfast but arrived 15 minutes to late and was told breakfast was over and that’s fine but, one friend asked if she could have a poached egg on toast only to be told the chef would have turned the water off now ??? But she could have fried egg instead this was refused as she doesn’t eat fried food. In the end we had tea and toasted tea cakes, well I say toasted but to be honest they were hardly toasted and stone cold. The waitress who took our order returned to the counter and it was obvious that she was talking about us as the other waitress she spoke to turned round to look at us, both obviously saw that I knew this and turned away very quickly, when our tea came another friend had to asked for her cup to be changed as it was dirty. From the outside the tea rooms looks lovely but inside was it was very cold, it was so cold everyone in there sat with their coats on. There was only one ladies toilet inside available for 5 people waiting as the other cubicle was out of order, the toilet was on an angle and very low and the floor could do with a good clean as could the outside toilet. All in all we will not return to this tea room if we return next year.

My visit was very disappointing, I agree with Richard's recent review. This tea shop is using the reputation of Burley to get its customers through the door, but is letting itself down. Just ordered tea and cake in the afternoon. I had to ask the waitress to stop putting her fingers inside the cups and get her to wash them again, they were stained despite going through the dishwasher. Staff uniform needs to be smartened up too. Cake was mediocre and synthetic, probably not "homemade". Toilets were dirty and looked as though the floor hadn't been swept properly in quite a long time. It looks quaint from the outside, but is shabby inside. It is using poor quality crockery and tableware, and it is not the "quaint" tea shop experience I was hoping for. Give this tea shop a miss and find a better one in the New Forest

On holiday in Lyndhurst & just looking around Burley. Had breakfast at hotel, so just wanted cup of coffee & maybe something light. Hottest day of year. Shown to inside table by young, friendly waitress, who gave us time to decide. I only wanted coffee, but wife decided on toasted teacake. Delivered promptly & teacake was huge. Jam came in small sealed jar (which everyone serves nowadays) & which we prefer to an open pot of jam. Wasn't homemade, but didn't claim to be. While we were there, a few customers asked if they could change tables from outside to inside, for shade & nothing was too much trouble for staff. Horses came & stood by window & waitress was quite chatty to us & explaining about life in the forest. Would like to return to Burley, just for this tearoom alone.

After a short drive in horrendous weather, we went off-route from the A31 in the New Forest and stumbled upon this lovely tea room (The Old Farmhouse Burley) which did a fabulous breakfast for what we thought was an amazing £9.75 each considering it included tea and a round of toast as well as being a full English, but with the government discount scheme in place it came in at £9.75 for the pair of us! We have visited this tea room as a family for 55 years and consistently despite changes in ownership they have the best scones in the UK without a doubt. We opted for the cream tea and had the choice of traditional black current jam or strawberry, service was good. Slight room for improvement would be that the staff seem to rush about which is not really in keeping with the cream tea environment, also the kitchen door was open with constant chatter, we were sat at a table near the stairs where everyone that passed caught the back of my chair, and finally cram and jam used to come in small bowls rather than original containers. All that said still the best cream tea ever.

My wife and I came here for lunch while on a bike ride around the New Forest. We read the reviews and thought we would give it a go. There was quite a wait for a table. I think this was due to it being a popular location and also the fact that the restaurant take part in the eat out to help out scheme. My wife and I ordered a tuna and onion panini and a coronation chicken baguette. After a very very long wait we were served with stale crisps on the side of each plate and a salad garnish which consisted of 1 slice of cucumber and a single tomato together with a few lettuce leafs drowned in a very strong tasting dressing. The tuna inside the panini was dry with little or no mayo. The coronation chicken baguette was filled to the point of over flowing but unfortunately it was quite tasteless. I don’t normally write reviews but felt I compelled to from my visit today. My first time visiting Burley, the village had such a lovely feel to it with the Old Farmhouse fitting right in with the atmosphere that Burley held. We were greeted with some very friendly staff who were definitely hard at work with everyone but always presented with a smile. I had lunch with my family (husband and 2 children), we ordered a hot meal, a baguette, ploughman’s and a children’s meal along with 3 smoothies and a soft drink. This came to about the same price as buying coffee and a cake each in a mainstream coffee shop - so we were impressed with the price! Both outdoor and indoor areas were clean and well kept, and the toilets were in reasonable order. It was a bit tricky trying to socially distanced when going to the toilets but most of the customers gave each other space to pass when needed. If you are thinking of heading to Burley, then this little quaint eatery would be great for a spot of lunch, coffee break and of course cream tea. Thank you Old Farmhouse!

We always visit here every year when we visit Burley on holiday. Arrived early on holiday so killed a bit of time by going to the farmhouse for a mince pie and a pot of tea. The next morning we returned for our usual cooked breakfast. We always go for breakfast on the morning of going home too as it sets you up for the day. The food is always really great quality and is even better in front of the log fire. My only criticism would be at breakfast, if you order coffee, you only get a one cup which is brought to you as soon as soon as you sit down. By the time your food arrives, I have always drank my coffee and if I order another, I have to pay. A pot or cafetière of coffee would be much better, as it would last longer and it would be lovely if this was included in the price, the same as a pot of tea.

We were recommended to come here by a friend, and what we found was outwardly a small tearoom, however it's deceptively massive and labyrinthine is size... I think it was at one point several buildings that have now been joined together. We picked a table right up the back for some peace and quiet, and were going to order a couple of cream teas... then the savoury tea jumped out at us. We decided to opt for one of each, and it was a good choice. both fruit and cheese scones were light, warm and delicious, clearly home made, if not in house from a local bakery. All in all a lovely relaxing time watching the occasional wild horse walk past the window.

Second visit with my elderly parents. Both times we really enjoyed it and found the staff to be very efficient and attentive. Nice traditional menu with something for every taste and also daily specials plus the option to have smaller portions. Car park to the side and additional seating outside.

Super busy place and the staff cope well with the demand. After queuing for a few minutes we were shown to a table. Everything ran smoothly thereafter, the afternoon tea was perfect. Would recommend.

Pretty standard. Roadside cafe in new forest. Stopped because of ludicrous traffic in the main drag. It was ok standard fare and staff seemed friendly and well managed.

Pleasant little cafe for light lunches, sandwiches and very generous servings of cake! Food was good, service friendly and speedy, and our dog was also welcomed inside.

Lovely looking old tea room with parking. Sign at entrance tells you to wait to be seated, which we did, no-one came to seat us and other people just walked in and got a table, & were therefore served, before us. Service was efficient but not friendly. Scone with jam and cream was very nice. Cake was ok, nothing special. Reasonably priced.

Stopped here for a cream tea after a long drive. Had a lovely milk shake made with ice cream, followed by a scone with jam and cream. Scone was nice served with the usual tiny pot of jam, which is a shame. Lovely old building for a nice stop. The staff really do need to smile though and be more more welcoming.

What a charming tea room. Stopped here for coffee and cake while visiting Burley. The Dorset apple cake was lovely served alongside an excellent cappacino. The room had loads of character and service was good. Would highly recommend.

Wij hebben hier ontbeten en later nog eens koffie gedronken. Uitstekend café met een gezellig historisch interieur. Het ontbijt en de koffie waren voortreffelijk en de bediening is correct en vriendelijk.

13.20 hours. We were hungry but I didn't feel like preparing lunch. Telephoned The Old Farmhouse to inquire if too late for food. It wasn't. We arrived 20 minutes later and enjoyed an excellent lunch. Two courses, some wine for non-driver and soft drinks for me (driver). Lovely meal, attentive staff in one of our favourite eateries. The Old Farmhouse NEVER disappoints. We took some of their scones home to have with tea later in the evening. They were yummy.....

The cream tea (2 scones with or without dried fruit/gluten free + individual jar of jam + individual tub of Rodda's clotted cream + pot of tea) is over £7... therefore was expecting something more special. Paper tablecloths and a mixture of chairs inside and out created a pleasant setting. The staff were generally very friendly. All of which was "not bad" rather than "fantastic".

Came here with my family having been here once before a couple of years ago. Sat inside as it was a bit nippy outside. After being sat for a good 5 minutes, my partner went up to the counter to find some menus. We all decided what to have and after another 5 minutes of waiting I went up to order only to be told it was table service...! Food was nice but I’d expected homemade scones and clotted cream not out of a Rodda’s pot from a tearoom in the middle of the new forest, (and for one costing £7.50!) but maybe I’m just being fussy. Might try the tearoom up the road next time we are in the New Forest.

I visited this tearoom/Restaurant on Bank Holiday Monday, with my husband and his mother for tea and it was tasty and delicious, as my mother in law and I shared a cream tea, because we only wanted one scone and the coffee or tea was included, us buying another cup of coffee and my husband had a cream tea with a pot of tea to himself. We were sat downside and the weather was a bit breezy, but sunny. I visited the ladies toilets not knowing there was a access Disabled toilet outside in a sort of hot thing and I did ask after using the toilet and it was pointed out to me on our way out of the seating area to the carpark, as I am Visually Impaired and look at these thing when out and about. I did notice a different door for people with Visual Impairment, Mobility and people in Wheelchairs, which had a ramp up to the door and the inside was a bit dark in the bar area, however, the restaurant was brighter with lighting. I would be going again and hopefully trying there meals, but I have read that the kitchen closes at 3pm for hot meals and they probably do teas after that time, because we arrived between 3.15pm and 3.30pm. The staff was not really friendly and I was not aware of this until we left and my husband and mum in law mentioned it, but they will go again.

Truly awful - and no suitable toilets. The food we were served was below average, the coffees were unfortunately not good at all. The service from the woman running the cafe was disgraceful. She seemed off from the outset, and was downright rude in the end after one of our group was reduced to tears by her behaviour. Most importantly the toilet was not suitable for visitors to use, you have to squeeze through the kitchen which is open to the seating area to get to the toilet, which is extremely close to where food is being prepared and completely inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet door did not shut, so the woman who runs the cafe had to slam shut another door in order for there to be any privacy (and any level of hygiene), which then resulted in one of our party being trapped inside the toilet unable to get out. When another member of our party was eventually able to force the door open from the outside and the person who was trapped was understandably shaken at the experience, the women running the cafe had the nerve to tell her to calm down, and then denied having said anything at all. All in all it was a horrendous experience, no redeeming features - this unfortunate situation could have been helped with a kind manner but instead was made much worse. Avoid. We will be making a formal complaint to the food standards agency. A bizarre and upsetting experience!
