Nice pub, very friendly and attentive staff

I’ve been coming the Old duke since the very first day it opened, I have always had a good experience, food is always on point, staff are always friendly and I hope to be coming here for many more years.

Won a competition on facebook for 4 free meals. Good food good service!

Poor service. Lots of young, unhappy staff who were more interested on sitting down on a specific table talking to chefs. Poor mains, pie couldn't be bitten through. Gravy was like flavourless water. Drinks ordered on the app took 20 minutes to arrive. Pudding took 30 minutes for 1 apple crumble, had to ask and it still did not come. When it did it had been put in the microwave and was rock hard. Poor server had been sent to our table about 4x with food we didn't order, just akward for him being sent here over and over. They did say to others they were busy but whilst walking to the toilet there were lots of empty tables and hardly anyone getting food as the chefs were all sat by the bar talking.

Called in on an impulse last night got a table very quickly ,but after ordering the food we had noticed table after table with dogs 🙉 When one dog started barking then set off another ,I don’t mind dogs but that was way over the top Also there were people VAPING at there table so very relaxed on the rules and staff not saying anything. Do you prepare dog food with the customer food and clean there dishes with the customers ? If the staff bring out dog food with customers food you are surely cross contaminating germs I would not come back as it’s a shame food was nice

The mixed grill was delicious and served brilliantly. The service was fast and friendly. I was most impressed with how dog-friendly the pub was! Me and my Labrador really enjoyed the visit. We will be back soon. Visited Monday daytime on a very long dog walk during a day off work.

Very friendly staff when I arrived. The venue is ver clean and tidy and the food was really nice.

I thought there would be a long wait for food as we were about fourth or fifth in the queue, but the food came out super quick and it tasted great.

We had a party of 8 plus 2 dogs for a birthday. All 4 generations enjoyed the food, even the kids ate it all. The roast dinner on Sunday was really nice, including 2 lovely vegetarian roasts. We come often and always enjoy it. Very comfortable surroundings and friendly staff.

Roast beef dinner was awful. Left most of it.

Love the steak dinner specials served on a friday celebrated our Golden Wedding together on the day before the big surprise do the next day at another Southport restuarant this was personal for us celebrating together we enjoyed every minute of it from the excellant red wine the succulent steaks and the delicious caramel deserts

Good food piping hot pizza was one of the best in a pub I have had

Great food & service, ordered two meals, fish & chips and a gammon with a jacket potato instead. Great size portions & served hot.

I Ordered shearing Natcho's but when it eventually arrived 20 minutes later cold... it looked like a small Childs serving which I'd of complained if I'd of paid £4.99 for but to pay £9.99 for the pathetic serving i got was a embarrassing moment . I did talk to the manager who I formed me, that it is prepared to the restaurant company's orders, she did put a tiny bit of pulled pork as a good will gesture. Told me to complain to the owners as she's only following orders. If this is the portion size I don't think il be returning.... not happy at all

I always receive a warm welcome from Kayla and her colleagues at the Old Duke in Southport. There is a warm friendly atmosphere, a good range of premium beers available, and the food is excellent quality and reasonably priced. We eat there on a regular basis and I can personally recommend the Hunters Chicken dish.

Never been before despite always being in the area. The food was stunning. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Quick family meal, 1 kids gammon steak, he loved it so off to a good start. 3 drinks and a pizza and halloumi fries to share between the other half and I. Possibly the worst pizza (veggie deluxe) we have ever had, it lacked any kind of topping, including veg, cheese, tomato base and flavour. The crisp base was nice though. Told the staff about the pizza, nothing whether that be refund on pizza or a remake. Very disappointed. £40+ wasted on what was supposed to be a nice treat.

Very poor service. Ordered 7 dishes asking them to all be served together and they only served half the dishes. Explained they had put first half of dishes as starters and rest as mains. Not apologetic. Couldn't believe that error wasn't noticed or queried in kitchen. Nice atmosphere in pub. Floor was dirty and lots of scraps of food under table.

Lovely friendly and efficient staff. We enjoyed a good Christmas meal here with crackers and a friendly atmosphere. Will be back.

Met with smiles and nice greetings. Shown to our usual reserved table that was festivals decorated with crackers too (nice touch). Great to have a bottle of water on there too. Starters served and was delicious, that was duck pate. If anything maybe one more slice of the bread would have helped devour the pate. Traditional turkey Christmas dinner was huge and so tasty, compliments to the chef. Was really quite stuffed by now but we had puddings too! Oh, to die for. Christmas pud was so tasty. The Lemon tart was perfect too. Many thanks guys. You're our favourite go to place for a meal we know is going to be fabulous.

Came here for the first time and can honestly say I've seen some questionable reviews about food and service, the reviews I've read did put doubt in my mind but I could not of been so wrong, the service was excellent, the food was awesome, I had the ultimate spicy burger sontoo did my wife , hand on heart ive never had a decent burger like this for a long time, probably since our last trip to America back in 23 it was perfect, full of falvour and hot !!! we will defo spread the word and have booked for xmas eve, well done to all staff you made it an awesome first time visit 5 Stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Service was excellent and best burger I've had in long time.

Booked last minute and was able to find table for 3. Greeted by host who was very friendly and kind . Food was lovely was nice and hot and very good portions .All the staff were very friendly and happy even though it was a busy Sunday lunch time . 3 very happy diners. Will be back soon.

Been twice and food was excellent both times, had the £20 for two steak and wine night. Do a lovely Lemon Meringue pie with Ice cream. And Garlic and Herb dough Balls.

My hubby and I took mum to the Old Duke for tea. They are super accommodating and helpful with mum, who has dementia, all of the team, always make you feel so welcome. The food is of a high standard, both in terms of presentation and the quality of the food. I ordered a blue steak, mum had Hunters Chicken and hubby had lasagne. The meals arrived reasonably quickly considering how busy the pub was. Unfortunately my steak was overcooked, more medium than blue. The landlady was super quick in checking to see if everything was OK, and quickly got the steak changed. The pub itself always looks lovely, and all the Christmas decorations look fab. The pub looks loved! Always a great night in the Old Duke. All of the team, without exception are excellent! Genuine and friendly!

Had a jumbo mixed grill . It was huge. I'm ashamed to say I struggled to finish it . Was lovely though

Food is always really lovely - guy behind the bar is always super nice to our dog when he comes in! Really nice atmosphere and super dog friendly- recommended!

As always a lovely time had by all - even though I managed to mess up the food order - the staff sorted it out so quickly - Si was brilliant with all of us especially the kids

One of the best pizzas I've had in a while the pizza chef needs a special mention she was amazing! Staff all friendly and the service was great. We came on a busy Friday afternoon and were served very quickly by the lady behind the bar I believe is the new manager nice and friendly :)

Actually proper nice. Didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Me and the wife had a lovely roast dinner each. Will definitely be back. Yum.

It’s an honour to say this is the best Dog friendly pub/restaurant I have ever been to. It was spotlessly clean and the food is hot and plentiful, the roast dinners are so good. My partner had the vegetarian option and he said it was perfect. The staff are Amazing and go out and beyond to make everyone feel welcome including our fur babies nothing is too much trouble and they are so approachable and friendly. They have a designated area for pets and pet owners and there is everything there from Dog Bowls, Dog Blankets, Dog Treats what you can have free and extra you can buy and what’s special is they even have a doggie menu haha I love this your pooch can enjoy fresh cooked chicken, sausage, meats and gravy. Pets really do get spoilt. They have coloured cones so staff and public know how to approach your dog If your dog is timid, nervous around other dogs but like people etc there is a colour chart on your table so you know what colour come to put out ( Genius ) I would definitely recommend the Old Duke to family & friends because once you go there, you definitely want to come back. Halloween is coming up and the display of spooky lifelike decorations are amazing they also have a colourful family area the children would love it! Once you go you would definitely want to return it’s a woofly experience haha for all pets & pet owners, families and all age groups. We can’t wait to come back with Max our little timid Maltipoo.

Clean decent pub with good parking. It's straightforward pub food but it was delivered quickly and tasted good. Often has money off offers on. Not posh, not atmospheric but a decent lunch.

Staff were amazing as was the food! They were incredibly helpful with my wife’s many dietary requirements. They couldn’t have done more to accommodate us. We’ll be going again for sure.

Great all round service, quality food.

My steak was cooked exactly as I asked for. My meal was piping hot, & the best chips I've had any where. The service was brill, asked us what drinks we were having, & recommended certain brands. Also made sure we was happy with all our meals, & regularly asked if we needed more drinks etc. What more can you ask for.

Lovely food at a very reasonable price

Staff were so lovely, not overpowering asked if all was ok, and it was the steak was the nicest I've had in a very long time... cooked to perfection. Prices are reasonable and my mum cleared her plate she also had steak and again cooked to perfection so thank you again . Service was quick and no nonsense too !

We love coming to the Old Duke for food and drink. Always a great atmosphere, lovely food and Michaela is THE BEST!! All other staff are great too! Highly recommend!!

Absolutely fantastic The staff were so lovely and friendly! Dogs are treated like royalty with their own menu, lots of treats, dog bowls galore - I love it! The baby changing had nappies and cream for emergencies. The whole pub was decorated for Halloween, brilliant decorations!

Meeting family in a friendly clean pub. Our dog loved the reception she got and all the choice of chews was amazing.

Lovely pub on the outskirts of Southport. Only went in for a drink after work but it was nice to see how friendly the staff were. There is a nice little outside seating area for sunny days which is sheltered from the main road.

Both my wife & I had pre booked a table on Thursday26eptember for 1830 however we arrived an hour early & we were greeted with a great & friendly welcome by Amber who brought our booking forward with no issues, Amber took our food & drinks order, we opted for the Thursday steak special and the meal was delicious as was the top level of service. Modest curry. Very dog friendly. Asked to pick up a colour cone for dog owners. Colours to match dogs temperament. To help with different dogs in the same area. Curry was tasty but short on substance for price. Friendly staff.

Just had the lunchtime fish chips,it was served quick, hot and tasty,under £10. Will certainly visit again.
