Visited last night for a pre Christmas meal with friends. I have to say the food was superb. Reading other reviews it appears that this place has been hit with several problems recently. Last night the previous owner was waiting on tables as staff were off ill. It was very quiet unfortunately which obviously had a bearing on the atmosphere. Don’t let past events and bad reviews put you off as I believe this place under normal circumstances is a hidden gem.

This was to be a birthday celebration Sunday lunch for a family of 7 plus a well behaved baby, we all arrived and had pre dinner drinks which were slow to arrive. Two of our party had a coke which they said tasted syrupy, however as we were not in a hurry we did not mind. Shortly after we were seated at the table where we were encouraged to order more drinks. The menus duly arrived and although the waitress had no idea what the soup was she found out and returned to the table to inform us that the soup had sold out. This was around 1.00pm and we found this strange as the restaurant only opened at 12.00pm, there were only around 20 people in the restaurant. We ordered our food and then the wait began! We asked for a high chair, on the third request we finally got one. We ordered another couple of rounds of drinks and realised that we had actually been there for an hour and a half. At no time did any staff member inform us of any delays. whilst we were waiting we noticed that there was another table where they had sent their food back to the kitchen and on its return the guests said it was barely warm and encouraged the waitress to try it. We spoke to a waitress and she advised that there was a fifteen minute delay. The baby required a nappy change which in itself was difficult as there are no changing facilities so had to be done on the bar floor fortunately no other guests were in the bar area. The fifteen minutes elapsed and we made the decision to leave. By now we had been there for two hours. We paid for the drinks consumed and the lady behind the bar apologised and said that 'management' would be informed and that I would receive a phone call. As you have probably guessed NO phone call received. This is such a shame as numerous friends have asked how our meal was and we can only speak as we find and directed them to the review page.

Awful experience for my daughter’s birthday meal, the lengthy waiting time (1 1/2 hrs) left us no choice to walk out without any food being served. Another table walked out they had been waiting over 2 hrs, food that did get served to another table was cold, then they ran out of beef…..

Really disappointed today. Came to the Old Dairy for birthday lunch. Service was terrible had to wait an hour for our main course. When It did come it was barely warm. Have had good meals in the past but we will be spending our hard earned cash elsewhere in the future.

We have eaten here before and it has always been lovely however to-day we had travelled from Cardiff to take an elderly relative out for her birthday. We waited over an hour to get our food and asked numerous times for coffee and the bill. All in all we were in the restaurant for over 2 hours making us very late getting back to Cardiff. There were a number of customers waiting a very long time for their meal.

Lunch yesterday at 2pm. Restaurant was empty except for one other group. When the menu arrived, I queried the price as it was more than advertised by about two pounds. The waitress informed that they had anew chef who had immediately increased the prices. This made it a very expensive Sunday lunch at about £18 each for one course. However, we ordered the meals which duly arrived. On turkey, one pork and two lamb. The turkey and pork were fine but both lambs very chewy and just about edible. We asked cranberry and mint sauce and received a very small dish of each. The cauliflower cheese was a small of what would normally be one portion between four. As there was very little gravy with the meals with very dry Yorkshire pudding s, we asked for some more gravy only to be told that this would be an extra £1.95! We duly ate our one course, paid the bill of over £85 and left. Never to return as this was our first and last visit since it had come under new management. Still can't get my head around gravy being an extra cost!

A group of 8 booked for a Sunday lunch and get together. From the outset the staff were welcoming, friendly, polite & efficient. The lunch was outstanding, tasty, a good size serving, and wholesome, the term 'just like homemade' is often over used, but this certainly was....and the empty plates certainly proved it. Pudding was equally tasty with the majority of us going for the jam roly poly. All agreed we'd had one of the best Sunday lunches. Thank you to Frank & staff.

So sorry to leave such a negative review but 2 years on, the whole venue/experience has sadly imploded on itself. Used to be superb, good quality food, beautifully presented by suitably and professionally attired staff ( tattoos covered). The stuffed pork belly had not been 'seared' prior to slow cooking, WHY? would I want even more nasty tasty stuffing alongside of this, very fatty, a very watery bowl of mixed vegetable accompaniment. Parsnips were ' strange'! My Husband chose the 'Mediterranean tart' which in itself looked and sounded very nice... WHY??? was it covered in gravy, stuffing, no option of a gravy jug, completely uninnivotive, thoughtless and classless. All in all, very poor presentation, poor quality and a very much ' cafe' experience, we paid 64.00 with 6.00 tip, poor quality Cointreau glass, reminiscent of a Butlins dining room, sorry.

After looking for somewhere different for Sunday lunch, thought give here a go. We walked in seemed very nice guided to our seat, given the menu after watching other customers come in and after 10 mins asked if we could order drinks. We ordered the pate and I had mushrooms in garlic and stilton, two turkey lunches. Starters came out my mushrooms some were cooked through some not with a sauce which contained very little stilton and the presentation a child may of done better ,the pate wasn't much better and contained red pepper which wasn't good and tasted awful. Then the mains presented as though was a big portion just meat placed over the Yorkshire pudding we had to ask server where our veg was which she brought out and was barely cooked maybe under a light bulb. Then we cut into the turkey which looked very good then as you begin to eat you get the pepper hit which was so over powering you couldn't taste turkey just black pepper. Didn't enjoy this experience wouldn't recommend and definitely won't ever go back the server refunded for drinks ,but for what we had to eat we still paid to much. Had better lunches elsewhere and cooked much better ourselves. Awful !!!!

Went there for a family meal tonight and got seated in a small poxy dinning area where there was no one else other than another couple opposite us. Not really very welcoming and very slow service.Had the mussels to start off with, they where just over cooked and chewy. Then had the lasagne ... there are no words to describe it apart from vile dry and disgusting. Another family member went for the chicken pasta and was not Explained that it would have been spicy and for someone that doesn't like spice was not able to eat it. And when we mentioned it to the waitress we didn't even get an apology how ever she did say that we where not the first to complain about that. And then pudding well I will say they had a good chocolate orange cake however i know the brand of that cake sorry frozen cake that costs about £15 for 16 slices and they charged us £7 for one slice. Oh and dont forget the vanilla cheese cake oh sorry I believe we where served a lemon cheese cake. that wasn't even on the menu.

It was a cold wet November evening, raining, with spray from standing water on the dark country lanes but it was all worthwhile with the warm welcome we received on arrival. Me and my partner came for dinner here on a Saturday night and was really impressed with it. We were in the area for a romantic weekend, so didn’t really know the area at all. We had read some recommendations and decided to give it a try. The layout of the restaurant was really nice and wasn’t too busy, so we were able to choose where to sit. We both had a starter- garlic bread and nachos. The portions weren’t too big and was a nice start to the meal. Mains we had the gammon with egg and the nacho burger. We both finished our plates and the food was so good. We were both impressed with the quality of the meat aswell. Desserts we both had the hot chocolate dumpling which was also great. It wasn’t too sickly and was a nice way to finish the meal. The service was good and the food was served promptly. We had both had alcohol and the total bill was really reasonable for what we had. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for a really nice meal out.

My family and I recently visited the restaurant, having known what to expect from our first visit some 9 months prior. Once again we really enjoyed the Sunday lunch and the children seemed very comfortable. The food was tasty, hot and didn’t long to arrive. The service was good overall, ranging from excellent and friendly from the main lady that served us (manager we assume?), to so-so from the others, who I felt should have been more attentative and left us waiting too long after finishing our lunch before taking plates away and offering us dessert menus. The restaurant is lacking a bit of atmosphere and warmth, but I’m sure that’s us being picky rather than raising a serious flaw. Thank you again to the main lady/manager for making us all feel so welcome.

Yorkshire was homemade and a good size. The Veg was perfectly cooked and served cottage style (on the side separate so you can chose what you like) And the “Gravy” was probably the best I’ve tasted! Not forgetting the large piece of crisp pork crackling and stuffing ball! We all agreed it was lovely! Service was stretched a little but it was full house, being Mothering Sunday! Tried The Old Dairy out last year and was impressed so thought we would give it a bigger challenge twelve months later, from the moment we left the cold and snow outdoors and entered the warm and friendly interior you cant help but be impressed, the word i've been searching for is "elegant", tastefully decorated. We were seated and offered a drink whilst waiting for the last couple and a few minutes after their arrival, all having a drink we were shown to our table, the restaurant is of good size and not cramped, the menus were bought as soon as we were seated and the waitress left us to return when we had chosen. I will only comment on my order but can assure that there were no complaints, only compliments by all after. I started with the crayfish, if you have not had them and like a prawn cocktail you must try them, they are the Rolls Royce of that dish, mild in flavor, a delight with a light dressing and nice fresh salad served with two slices of homemade french stick with butter (Must admit I could have used a couple more) My main course was a homemade beef and ale pie, good size individual pie, nice short pastry, had mine with mashed potatoes and had a few chips from my partners place, fabulous, separate dishes of vegetables, French beans, carrots broccoli and peas perfectly cooked with a jug of gravy (Always a nice touch to have separate) and for pudding, a trio of very nice Ice cream but very small amount, the only small thing I could criticize, also tried a spoon full of the raspberry crumble from the wife - also delicious, a few bottles of house red and white to complete a fine evening.

Evening meal, mid week, moderate service and limited menu. Little atmosphere. Not good value probably busy during motor racing season as Mallory circuit is adjacent

We returned to this restaurant for a second time recently and again had a very pleasant and inexpensive evening. So we'd recommend you try this place. It's out of the way so, as far we understand, it's quite mid week but comes to life at the weekends. We visited on a Saturday and it was full.

My wife and I visited The Old Dairy Restaurant as we live nearby and usually go to Sutton Cheney for food. Upon entering we immediately knew that something was not quite right. It was practically empty - only two people were seated eating food, and in the tiny bar area a group of four had been ushered and given menus rather than being seated. Two waitresses walked past us without saying hello or asking if we needed help. At this point we should have left but we decided to give them a chance.

We had Sunday dinner for the first time here and was a little nervous about what we would get considering the other reviews here, but was pleasantly surprised. The venue is very comfortable with tartan carpet and chandeliers and dark oak tables. Our food was very tasty and the portions were generous. The only let down was the lack of attentive service, i.e. there was no attentive service. I had to go to the bar to get a second drink, no waiting staff checked on us during the meal, ther was no cutlery provided for my husbands cheese board, and I and another table both went to the bar to pay when nobody came back for the money. There is also a lack of knowledge with the staff about the food, as they look bewildered when you ask them anything about it. The special was trifle apparently, but when I asked what sort (strawberry, raspberry, mixed fruit?) the waiter did not know and guessed strawberry. He was wrong about that. I am glad I erred on the side of caution and did not order it (I cant have raspberries). The other odd thing was the music choice. Now I like the Hits of the Eighties but it ruined the ambience of what was trying to be a sophisticated country house restaurant. Food was good though, so we will almost certainly try this restaurant again.

We arrived for our 2pm table and was told to take a seat next to the bar and someone would bring the menus over. After 15mins i went I and got the menus off the bar myself. After 30mins i went and asked how long we were going to be kept waiting and whether anyone was going to take our food order. After 55mins i complained again and also another family walked out complaining having also had a table booked for 2pm. We were finally seated at 3.15pm and when the meal did arrive we had to ask for veg, mint & apple sauce plus to top it off the waiter spilt gravy on my wifes chair. This place should not take on two sittings on a Sunday if they are not prepared to tell the first sitting that they must leave the table by a certain time. We will not be in a hurry to go back

Went with friends for the first time on a Saturday evening. The food was very good and plenty. It is mainly English food and the chips were lovely. The resturant was nicely decorated and cosy. Service was prompt, thou our group was the only people eating there. Staff friendly.

My family and I had Sunday lunch here. We were left for 30 minutes before being asked if our order had been taken and then, like double decker buses, two came along!! Our starters came out fairly promptly on very faddy slate which did not make it easy to eat. When our mains arrived, the roast potatoes had been cut into large oblongs and were very hard, yet burnt and not at all crispy!! The Yorkshire puddings were likewise. I asked for apple sauce which was supposed to accompany my pork and none arrived. The gravy was insipid and the service not much better. We left as soon as possible....very disappointed!!

Every thing was excellent . The Sea bass was quite superb, miles in front of the fried skin served by the Pseudo Italians.

This was the first time we'd been to The Old Dairy that wasn't for Sunday Lunch. Plenty of choice on the menu and food hot & tasty. Bar & waiting staff are lovely. One of our favourite local eating places

James our host was very lovely, polite, friendly and so welcoming, a great representation for traditional and homely hospitality - he made our stay perfect. Upgraded us to an ensuite room for our arrival as he saw we travelled far and helped make us feel settled in, he was so comforting and made the experience and stay smooth and beautiful. Going the extra mile!! Just so wonderful !

Lovely setting and nice clean surroundings what a shame the food let them down. Firstly the duck pâté tasted of fish and was covered in a mountain of cayenne pepper. Sea bass main course had seen better days and was served with chips of all things. My partner had the trio of pork which although was a massive portion was over cooked.. very disappointing food although the waitress come bar maid was lovely. The opinionated local and the TV blaring out did not help the evening. On the whole a lovely place but won't be eating there again.

Had a fantastic dining experience here last night, celebrating our friends birthday. The food and presentation was fantastic. The chef very kindly even did me boiled potatoes to accompany my steak, even though they were not on the menu. We were served by the lovely Laura, who was so patient and kind, nothing was too much trouble for her. The whole evening was superb. Thank you and we will definitely be back xxx

Beautiful decor, with a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. Helpful staff who do their utmost to ensure that the experience is good. Relaxed drinks in the bar whilst making your choice from the menu (good selection, with something for everyone) and while your starters are prepared. The restaurant area is really nicely appointed, quiet and relaxed, just the job for an evening with friends. The food is excellent, well presented and prepared, with a good choice of wine if you need it. Service is spot on, pleasant staff, just the right time between courses, with a longer pause before dessert if you want. Nice touch from the joint owner/chef coming round to check if everything had been OK. Overall a really nice experience. It was our first time here, but it won't be our last. Well done everybody. Thanks.

10/10 Lovely Fresh Food! The ploughman’s baguette, was the most tasteful thing I’ve ever tried! So yummy! Clean and the staff are friendly the two ladies. I would definitely try the breakfast next time! You must go! Toastier and baguettes are the one!

Came in on Thursday for a nice spot of lunch, had some lovely service from zane and he made our visit a delight and served some lovely food from chef suzie, wasn't too keen on coming up to the bar and being ignored from the tall blonde/ginger man who was too interested on his conversation after acknowledging us however this didn't detar my experience. I do recommend others to visit for zanes service and food from the chefs was spot on good job
