We called in for a sandwich lunch and were very impressed. We both had a baguette with scrumptious skinny fries and a fresh salad. I had chicken, Brie and cranberry, which was delicious. My husband had a sausage, bacon and onion relish baguette that was absolutely brimming with filling. The gardens are well set out with a mix of covered and open tables with room for children to run about. The pub is also very dog-friendly and provides treats, poo bags, etc. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Well done, The Chequers.

Having just eaten here and the food as always was excellent. We were booked into the bar area which is normally as good as the restaurant area. Two older couples were in the bar area drinking and the raised voices verging on shouting along with the language was shocking! The barman new these people and chose to say nothing. We left the establishment as quick as possible....

Mid to high lunch time food price. Eddible food but only pie seemed home made. Pate, shrimp cocktail straight out of a bag. Sliced bread is far below basic standards expected today. Service was somewhat arrogant, seemed like he was doing us a favour serving us. Overall poor food, average to poor service, high cost, misserable atmosphere. Would not recommend spending upwards of £55 with no alcohol for a lunch, much better quality food and far better service and atmosphere for the price within a stones throw from this place. Sad as we wanted ot to be nice but unfortunately, a big no.

Brought the food out to my son still no smile and when i asked for some cutlery was told to get it myself from a station in the garden along with any sauces i wanted. You even get cutlery brought to you in The Hansom Cab!!! The food isnt cheap but i am happy to pay the price for good service along with good food unfortunately 1 is lacking.

A really poor experience today. Bank holiday Monday and we checked at the bar before ordering drinks if they were serving food. The answer was a grumbling yes and we were given menus. Drinks ordered and we went back up 5 minutes later to order food. We were then told no more food orders… and to come back in at least 30 minutes because they’d turned the printer off. This is completely ridiculous. Food order should have been accepted and customer advised of the delay, not to put it on the customer to keep getting up and down to see if they can now cope with demand. We requested a refund on the drinks and left. Very poor customer experience and sad to say this is the second time we have experienced this here and so will not return. If you cannot cope with food demand, don’t serve it at all as it’s completely unreliable and impossible to make plans when one minute you’re serving and the next you are not. We had a lovely meal with table service at the Cross Keys instead where we were made to feel very welcome.

My wife and I have been regular visitors to the Chequers Pub over the past few months and have eaten there on each occasion. Today we had booked for a Family Easter Sunday meal. My wife had the Camembert En Crout and my mother in law and I had the Roast Lamb. Normally my mother in law doesn’t always complete her meal. Today, we all cleared our plates!!! The food was hot and tasty. You could taste all ingredients and there was nothing that any of us could fault. I couldn’t fit a dessert in but my wife and mother in law both had the Apple, cinnamon and raisin crumble. I was told that it was amazing!! Considering the number of times we’ve been to the Chequers we’ve never been disappointed. The service was great and I would highly recommend a visit. The waitresses were all very friendly, welcoming and polite. Our visit today really made our Easter Sunday. Our visit was followed by a mandatory snooze on the sofa when we got home!!

We went a few weeks ago and we was very impressed, but returned on Saturday and the experience wasn’t repeated. The service wasn’t that great slow and felt strained that didn’t really want the custom, the food was a burger and chunky chips and haddock and chunky chips both my partner both said quite a lot of the chips were raw in the middle I left half of mine. Visited today for lunch to try the 2 for £25 deal. As a group of 3, we asked if we could have the 3rd meal for £12.50 to take further benefit of the deal. Well, if you don’t ask, you don’t get. We didn’t get. Food arrived, looked fine. 2 of us had ordered smoked fish and king prawn chowder. The prawns hurt my eyes, looking for them. My fellow diner said he also couldn’t find a prawn. The third meal was fine. The staff, after checking with the chef, assured us the meals contained king prawns. Hmmm. In fairness, we were offered a reduction off the bill, which was free drinks. After many meals here over many years, this was the only disappointment. If you are going to do a deal, you obviously don’t drop the quantity or quality of the product. Tip, order from the main menu.

Dropped into the chequers for some food with a friend and thought we’d try the chequers as we hadn’t eaten there for a while. I must admit, I found the menu much more extensive than expected and was drawn to one of the pies I’d heard so much about….I wasn’t disappointed. I chose the beef brisket with peppercorn sauce paired with creamy mash and a good pile of veggies. The flavour was amazing and it was very well packed with filling. The others had the fish pie and macaroni cheese and they were also very happy with theirs. I wouldn’t normally but I also felt compelled to go for an amazing crumble with custard which really topped the meal off. We’ll definitely be going back to work our way through this great looking menu….and would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for good quality, tasty and well presented food with great service from the staff👌

It was 👌 The pies and nicely filled for sure and have a very accurate taste according to menu. Seasonal veg cooked to perfection, and I tried my wife's mash..... bloody lovely. Service was quick and very polite. Food didn't take long at all and was piping hot. Drinks are most reasonably priced amongst the other popular pubs in the area. We have been to this pub a lot of times even during covid to support their business. Nice food and atmosphere. However, todays experience was not up to the usual service. Ordered a 'fishpie' to find it was filled with chicken pieces, carrots, peas and "a" prawn. Another member of our group ordered the "same" fish pie which was as described fish and prawns. On previous visits, we have had this fish pie, which was lovely. However, apon asking the "fish" pie to be returned. The Waitress returned, quote, "it was fish and maybe, the "fish was different hake instead of cod or a little over cooked." I was offered a different meal, however i didn't want to keep my family waiting. the lovely waitress( i felt for her really being a messenger) asked if we wanted the pie to take home. We declined. Ordered puddings and starters. The food is good here however, do not question the chef!!. Asked for the bill and was charged for the 'fish/chicken" pie as quote "we had a meal wasted, that you didn't want and it was the same batch as the other pie orderd!" ( head waitress/manager) So, it would seem you cannot send food back even if you have a complaint. and would i of got billed for another meal,? had i ordered one. 10% deduction £1.70 was deducted from the bill for the "fish" pie. Shame, really..

Enjoyed a meal and drink with family. Sat in the garden in the shade. The food was great and the portions were generous.

This place is amazing. Been here twice now. Had the brisket and peppercorn pie and the chicken and mustard pie and both times they were absolutely perfect. Service is great. Prices are good. Cannot fault the place one bit

It's gone downhill, went last year and it was okay - food was edible and the service was okay. I went this week and none the similar. The fish and chips was overcooked and the fish was chewy, we waited an age for food and the cutlery wasn't available - I asked 3 times for cutlery and only got it 10mins after I asked. The deserts took 30 minutes to come out and where subpar. I will not be coming back again.

Fabulous tearoom but the menu is mainly sandwiches and cakes , no hot food was available that I could see. Great hospitality though in a great setting.
