We’ve visited for the 2nd time in a week for a Sunday roast. Great atmosphere, cosy and warm with their wood burner. The service was excellent they were polite and welcoming - the food was homely and portions were perfect! The gravy is to die for. Beef, Turkey and Lamb were had all our family loved it. A gem of place to be on any day! Recommend to all.

We came for dinner as a family which my brother had recommended 👌. He wasn't wrong in saying " delicious dinner". We had a variety off the menu from tuna melt with home made chips to a beef dinner 🥰 all plates was clean even the extra gravy boat was empty, so thank you so much for feeding us all with very full tummy's 😋 food was really nice and also the puddings was the icing on the cake.... would highly recommend for people to go and visit here and eat some lovely grub 😋 p.s the staff was lovely and very welcoming too!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch. Was very impressed that it came out on a skillet so dinner was hot from start to finish. Very nice pub with a good atmosphere. All the staff were friendly & helpful. Will definitely be back.

My parents are staying at the marina and following a recommendation we had Sunday roast, table booked for 2pm and on arrival we had a lovely warm welcome from the staff and the pub has a genuine old English pub atmosphere. My roast pork melted in my mouth, generous portions with top quality ingredients and we didn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes to receive our plates, which were wonderfully hot (the plates were cast iron framed by solid wood). 3 adults, 2 courses + a drink each cost less than £60, I’ve not experienced such a fantastic all round Sunday lunch in a very long time. Bravo to the team at the old crown!

Beautiful old traditional pub with very welcoming staff serving lovely home cooked tasty meals at a very good price. Also allows motorhome stop over. Play area for children & Dog friendly. Would definitely recommend this place and will return if in the area :)

Four of us went for Sunday Dinner. This is such a friendly place to visit, with a proper local feel to it. There’s also a big beer garden with a play area if you have little ones with you, plus a nice sun trap deck. The food was outstanding and all freshly cooked, the bar prices are very reasonable too. We will definitely be back when we are next in Shardlow.

This is a nice pub with a lovely beer garden, but the food really lets it down. Ordered 4 meals; 2 of the meals (baguettes) were ok; the other 2 (burgers) were not. The cobs for the burgers were soaked in places with blood; one part of one of the burgers was still completely raw and the chips and onion rings were overcooked. We told the waitress and she took the food back to the kitchen. About 20 mins later, the food came back; the cobs had been replaced but this time the burgers were overcooked (the same burgers had been put back on the grill (including the cheese) and frazzled). The cheese had burnt on the grill and hadn’t been replaced. Everything else was the same, including overcooked chips and onion rings which had obviously been microwaved making them even drier. We gave up at this point. We are not fussy eaters but this was really poor.

Firstly we received a wonderful welcome this evening. Was here yesterday for lunch too. Tonight they went above and beyond, there was just 3 adults and 5 children and they allowed us to inflate the bouncy castle slide for the duration of our visit. Kids loved everything as did we, including the friendliness of the staff/owners

What a find!!! Lovely old fashioned pub, busy, friendly. Lovely home cooked food, and cheaper than most other pub nosh. Definitely worth a visit.

Pub Grub, ham egg chips & peas, the 3 meals arrived, the small plates were the size I had last seen in my mother’s care home, or even child’s plate, maybe to make the small portions look larger - the fried egg covered the ham and was barley visible. The eggs were overcooked to the point that they were barely recognisable on all three meals! I then had the audacity to ask for the eggs to be redone’ the young girl went back up the stairs from the garden to ask the question, another young lady came back to ask in a very sarcastic tone “Do You Really Want us to Redo the Eggs. I said that I did not like her attitude and tone and to leave it, especially because the people at the table were my guests and I found it embarrassing that I had recommended we go there. This is the second time we have eaten there and the food was poor and I say with some regret there will not be a third - after eating and drinking there for over 25 years and always having hearty food and great beer, Poor Food & Customer Service - somebody needs to retrain staff in customer service it’s a real shame about the staff and the food as they are letting down the pub you need to raise the game and rethink the plate size if you want to offer a small plate/ pensioner’s meal then make it clear.

Wow, this place is amazing. This is a hidden gem , ever so quirky with great food at a fantastic price. The Sunday roast dinner is value for money and is amazing the best I have had in years. Well done to the owner for making it such a lovely experience, the staff are amazing and location is really tranquil. We enjoyed our Sunday dinner so much we went back the next few days, the curry night was brilliant and the steaks, mixed grill are awesome. You have to check this place out if you are in the area.

Used to be a really good pub pre Covid Absolutely shocking food Couldn’t eat any of it black and charred on a red hot skillet and meat was off !!! Yorkshire pudding looked like it had been set on fire

We were looking for somewhere local to go for a family meal that had outside play equipment for the kids aged 8 and 2. Decided on the Old Crown. Oh god what a mistake! Before Covid we would come and the food was great, we came during covid and swore we wouldn’t return, it’s been a while so thought we would give it ago. All I can say is avoid at all costs. Price was reasonable but that is more because the food is such poor standard. I had a lasagne which was just ok, my husband had surf and turf, the steak was over cooked even though we asked for medium rare, and was smaller than a beef burger and the scampi was over cooked, my daughter in laws burger was a dry bun with a burger, no relish cheese and the burger itself was inedible and looked like sawdust. The 2 year old wouldn’t eat his nuggets so we tested them and they were rock hard. I won’t go one but it didn’t get any better. Play equipment is dangerous, they have trampolines in the floor but there is no protection on the metal bars or springs . None of us will return and it’s a shame as it used to be. A lovely pub

Booked table for 8 people took 1 hour and half. Food cold as they don't have a hot plate. Would not recommend. Spend money else where as not good service when it's a busy day.

A amazing family pub. The food is always ok but the facilities for kids are the best I've ever seen in a pub. They often bring in bouncy castles too. Grate walk to get there too

Good service but sent the 1st meal back (omelette & +chips) as scorched one side and under cooked the other plated up with overcooked very dark brown chips. The next one came out undercooked but burnt around the edges with chips that were the same. I struggled to find any cheese in them too. I would say the worst omelette AND chips I have ever had and the worst meal I can remember. I don’t know how they stay in business. Certainly won’t be returning.

Delicious food, good service and a fantastic play area, loads of seating tables outside. Atmosphere inside was very cosy also. Would go back. The kids meal was a very good size, unlike other places we’ve been.

A unpretentious little country pub well worth the visit, just make sure that the River Trent isn't flooding. Cosy interior, friendly staff, usual pub menu at good quality and reasonably priced. As an unexpected bonus a couple of geezers were quietly playing old rock songs on their guitars. We really enjoyed our evening there.

Excellent old school pub. Great beer and decent grub. Both staff and locals were exceptionally friendly. We stayed the night in our campervan in the car park. We will return.

We had our daughters Christening at the old crown inn and I can’t recommend it enough. The staff were so kind and couldn’t do enough for us, the food was outstanding! It was about to flood so we did not stay too long but it was good so our group will be back. The beer was excellent.

Lovely warm fire and friendly atmosphere. Homemade Sunday lunch was great. Sometimes you think that the food was great but expensive and other times cheap but basic...but here you get value for money. The food matches the price. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. I was offered a test before buying a cider as the knowledgeable staff knew this drink was not to everyone's taste ( she was right!) . Although busy the wait for food was not too long and staff were eager to make sure we had all sauces we needed and checked that we had enjoyed our meals . We will definitely return and try other lovely meals available on the menu . Thank you x

First time eating at The Old Crown but drink there fairly regularly. Meals were small and poor quality for the price. Beef in the curry had stringy strands running through it and rice under cooked. Gave feedback but unsure it will get back to the owner!

First time here and was unplanned. From the outset the friendliness of all the staff was fantastic. Lovely home cooked food, varied menu and excellent value for money. Had cheese and onion pie, homemade chips, fresh veg and delicious gravy. Old school puddings were on offer and I chose treacle sponge and custard- absolutely fantastic! Where else can you get a home cooked 2 course meal and a pint of shandy for under £20!

Lovely traditional pub where we were made very welcome by both the locals and delightful young staff. We ate here twice - good old fashioned pub menu but with some inventive additions, and lots of choice for a gluten free option. They even bad a couple of gluten free beer choices, and the beer on the hand pumps was excellent according to my other half. Best thing I can say us we would like to fake the whole pub home with us!

First time here, just had a pint but will definitely be back! Lovely traditional old pub, no music, no TV blaring out, just fab! Food options look great so I will try that as well.

I went here over 40 years where I used to take my greyhound hound pup to be schooled I was taking my grandson a driving lesson and I said we will go there for something to eat me and my grandsons girlfriend we had the 3 courses and my grandson had a lansange with home made chips all 3 of us really enjoyed it normally we would go for a carvery but this place his 5 times better than any carvery and I have tried a good few its only pub I know what sells mild and it was like nectar

Great place for parents to chill whilst the kids play outside!! The hand cut chips are also gluten-free, which was a major plus for one of our group!

Nice pub and nice outside for kiddies but sorry the beef baguettes we had were awful , stodgey bread and not warm , chips were hard and the Yorkshire pudding you got was still frozen , just horrible

Just had a really lovely meal at the Old Crown Inn, a one of the few traditional pubs still around in the area. A warm welcome by the landlady and excellent service from the bar and waiting staff. Food was delicious…..we especially loved the home cooked chips. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be back

Not to the usual standard as we've eaten here numerous times, sausage and mash were overcooked as well as the chips. Shame really as we've always had good food before.. we all have off days I suppose.

Very small oldie world pub. Food leaves a lot to be desired. Staff are very poor and they are very poor. They are very inattentive. The food is poor. Very disappointed will not return.

Found by chance passing while ago now pop in quite often class as one of our favourite pubs big plus found out sell 0% Guinness which is brill wish more pubs would sell it good show on today's festival well done guys .

Went for food (3 adults and 1 child), wasn't informed about the wait of nearly 1 hour. When asked got told 10 minutes longer, still another 30 minutes, chilli was luke warm, lumpy gravy, veg tasted of vinegar, no sauce on steamed cod. Tried to order coffee, told machine was broken, then 2 people walk out with coffee 15 minutes later. Wouldn't recommend

real ales and home cooked food are a must get plenty of food reasonable priced been today for surf & turf and a few ales. Would definitely recommend it definitely come again.

Absolutely lovely atmosphere in the garden and in the lounge area. Quite busy for a Tuesday evening.. Now we know why . Menu - great selection including vegetarian options. Lovey friendly staff smiling and friendly. The food was excellent from steaks to vegetarian lasagne. We were a family of 11 all food came out on order and the same time . We will be back ..thank you .

This is a pub you want to live in walking distance to, a selection of real ale that are constantly changed, real honest pub grub and not Bistro that serves the same food but posh descriptions, pretty food placed, and of course inflated OK Yah Prosecco prices. A warning to those visiting is that it is a busy, friendly pub whose prices are also friendly.

Nice historic pub with a good bit of character. A few ales on, about four or five. Large outside area with a garden and decking. Swings etc to keep smaller children happy.Keeps hens and owls. Does food . Plenty on during week and weekend. Live music outside in the summer. Presumably does overnights but definitely phone ahead. Short drive off main road. Recommended. 🍻 🥚 🦉

Sunday dinners here are the best x

Have eaten here several times in the past. However, the past few times the meal has been very disappointing. Greasy, cold plates and extremely over cooked chips with dark parts that should have been cut out of the potatoes. The price has gone up and...

Awful. Rarely write a bad review but have never felt so unwelcome in a pub. What a shame.

Called in here yesterday (25/04/23) and was pleasantly surprised to find a traditional pub in a lovely spot (Cavendish Bridge). There is a nice beer garden, and also saw a beautiful Eagle Owl on a perch (during an earlier walk by to check the place out).

Lovely pub, friendly staff and they always make you feel welcome! We ordered the pork pies and my god they were amazing! Amazing value and absolutely delish! The kids love it here too! Such a good outside area for kids!
