Costa Coffee in North West Leicestershire

Staff were polite, tables were clean and service was good! Amble room for our prams too which was a bonus!

All hard surfaces so nothing to soak up the noise. Rather unpleasant experience so unlikely to return.

Been here a few times over the years and been today Tuesday 23rd may 2023. plenty of free seats and tables. I joined the queue and was about 5th in the queue. The barista was so slow and took about 12minutes before i was served. one of the team came round to the machine and i thought he was going to help clear the queue but no he made himself a drink and disappeared to the back. Drink and toast was ok when we eventually got it. The lad who made himself a drink kept appearing, cleared tables and cleaned them and he cleaned an empty table near us 3 times in 20 mins. there was also another girl in the backroom. The staffing needs sorting out and someone should do it fast.

Your blonde barrister / manage with plaits needs to remember that not every disability is visible. I found you very rude and not child friendly. The lady making the drinks on the other hand was lovely. Costa please educate your staff on autism / sensory processing awareness. What should have been a birthday treat was ruined by one staff member! It’s not what you said….ITS THE WAY YOU SAID IT …… we were made to feel very uncomfortable whilst trying not to draw attention to our child having a meltdown. We were just trying to finish our breakfast and leave as quickly as possible…. There was NO NEED for you to make a scene by pointing out our child’s behaviour. Do you not think we were trying as parents to do our best and leave as soon as we could without spoiling our other child’s birthday treat?

Me and my partner always come to costa, the blonde ladies who have been there for years are amazing! Always smiling and know who we are, they come out and say hi to our doggy when hes outside. Hope the refurb has gone well!

It was a quiet Sunday morning when I stopped in for a very good flat white, and a hot pork sausage BAP. It was quiet, clean, and service was fast and friendly.

I arrived on a Sunday to a queue of about 6 people. Behind the counter were four 16 year olds looking stressed and clueless. It took about 10 minutes to be served and it took them about 15 minutes to make a hot chocolate and my toastie. These kids looked stressed and flustered and had no clue how to make a drink or how to provide good customer service. Shame on Costa for allowing this.

Unfortunately after asking a genuine question regarding the price of a cappuccino and being responded to in a defensive tone, the person making the hot drink then saw fit to serve the person behind me in the queue. Quite disappointed to be treated in this way. Why can’t staff deal with genuine questions more professionally??

Long wait, kept getting click and collect orders pushing in front. Tables not cleared. Food preparation area dirty. Staff too stressed to care.

I’m always in Ashby as Costa is the place to go for a good coffee, however a few members of the staff have no people skills and frankly quite rude. I was in the queue standing on the foot step spot on the floor and a staff member over the counter shouted I needed to step back and it’s 2 meters apart. I said we are all on the spots and she says ‘oh’ and walks off. On another trip here I see that they only serve two people at a time which is great and safe, love that. However it seems to be if your a regular customer that they are fond of then they get served as well making it three people so very frustrating for the rest of us to see and witness.

Service in this costa is soooooo slow ten minutes and we have moved two metres half a dozen people so far come in and walked out.

A very comfortable atmosphere with plenty of seating and usually parking available outside. Always clean and tidy and staff work well to maintain the standards. Well worth a visit.

Too service as always however I’ve got to say guys, the place could seriously do with a major refurb / clean! It’s looking very tired, out dated and grubby! Cmon guys, let’s get it right before I start using the deli down the road again.

I go here a few times a week and it’s always been great. Excellent coffee and lovely staff ☺️ But now the manager has left and some new staff have been taken on its terrible. The flat white looks dreadful if a certain lady makes it. And it’s SO SLOW! The new staff chat amongst themselves behind the counter. Orders are wrong too. Please get back to what this place used to be!

Visited Costa today, quite busy, not one member of staff gave any eye contact, not one smile very miserable, quite off putting. Ordered 1 shot late and flat white, asked I’d I could have the late shot in the flat white. No eye contact, staff just said don’t know, she asked manager who also never gave me eye contact she said “oh give it her can’t be bothered to argue.” So very rude. I said well I have paid for it. She just shoved coffee forward and ignored me. Will never drink in there again and will make sure I tell everyone. Terrible service, all rude and Costa should have a think about re training their manager.

The toilets here are horrendus. Unclean and very smelly like a men's urinary. One toilet for shared sexes. Every time I go they are in an unhygenic mess and it's a health hazard!! Maybe costa should make paying customers put a code in to use so they are not being used as the public's toilets. It isn't the first time, I dread using them and it's going to stop me using costa which is a shame because food drinks & staff are all nice.

I often nip into costa on my lunch break to grab a quick hot chocolate and over the past couple of weeks (sept/Oct) the service has been disappointing to say the least and the staff are getting less and less friendly. I believe bad service once could be an accident everyone has bad days but it’s getting progressively worse. Firstly I had a hot chocolate which didn’t taste like chocolate and when I got to the bottom the chocolate hadn’t been mixed in at all (see photo) , the next visit I the Medium hot choc was half missing and they tried to cover it up that they hadn’t made enough with lots of cream and on the third chance the costa card advantage points weren’t working on the app which again is not helpful. It’s a shame because this coffee shops always been my local and it’s a shame to see it go down hill so quickly.

Always a poor Costa coffee shop ...dark, poor decor,continuously loud background noise, dreadful WiFi and continuous interruptions to business through not maintaining basic equipment such as dishwashers, card payment equipment etc etc.... lately the machine which blends ice drinks is breaking and subjecting staff and customers to ear shattering decibels while they try to enjoy or make a coffee. The staff have always been excellent despite what must surely be dreadful ownership of the branch. They are constantly smiling and cleaning . Most recently the owners have decided to pull the better newspapers from this Costa ...which was the only thing I came in for. I shall use up my Costa points in this branch now as I have nearly £100 worth and when they are gone I shall retreat to the peaceful , comfortable and light Starbucks on Flagstaff island...where WiFi is super fast too. I have spent about £600 a year here since it opened which will be a nice saving from now on .

I object to the fact that Costa seem to have defaulted to serving medium drinks without checking with the customer which size they want. The response I got when I clarified that I required a small drink could hardly be described as good customer service as the drink, when it arrived (luke warm), was banged down on to the counter. I have felt that this branch of Costa has been going downhill for a while. Will definitely be looking for somewhere else to drink in Ashby.

Ooh, rather thrown this morning. Different staff, young but very efficient. My only concern is that staff need to be a little more proactive with the clearing up of tables.

Visit here a few times a week. The service is always superb, the staff are very friendly and relaxed.

I visited on a Sunday at 3pm to be greeted with all the sweet treats having been squashed into a Tupperware box. Allergies?? Obviously the staff getting ready to close an hour before due.I then ordered a panini and was given a knife covered in hard food remenants.Yes noisy, yes sometimes the tables are not cleared but come on!! That stuff is basic quality assurance.Luckily I don’t drink hot drinks but the queue for those is always crazy long and very slow.Not sure what’s happened to the place but I’ll be working and having my meetings elsewhere, even the smallest cafes in Ashby have WiFi and their smiley staff and quality assurance is much better.This place needs some help!

I decided to stop off for a coffee to go. Although it was nearly 5pm I knew it was open til 5.30 because I’d seen it previously on its hours sign.However, when I went to the counter to order, I was told that the cafe had closed. When I looked at my watch - it was 5.01 pm, I politely challenged this and was told that the opening times had changed in August and that they hadn’t had chance to change the sign. And that was it - not even an offer to take my order. Poor management and poor customer service: the service individual has missed out on a large tip too

No wifi signal :( Kids allowed to run riot in the morning, it seems sad that many parents bring them VERY early before school to have breakfast then ignore them. Staffs kids demanding attention when staff are trying to serve, no wonder the order has to be repeated 3 times. Getting a bit sick of it, need earphones. People waiting for buses need to be served quickly (In this semi rural area some buses are not frequent......), never mind gossiping to the old locals. Some of the food is overpriced. The younger lad is ok though, he's on the ball.

A noisy cafe - plenty of seating, the usual range of Costa food and drink and the staff are friendly but it is nothing out of the ordinary. Costa is what Costa does.

This coffee shop consists of a couple of good staff. Only a couple of them know how to make the drinks properly but those who do, do a good job. It can be very frustrating that when they have offers on, they run out of stock, this happens quite regularly, and they substitute chocolate chips in mint drinks for flakes, which isn't brand standard, and they don't tell you either, so its not until you get the drink you realise its not as it should be. Im a great believer in stores telling a customer if you're going to change something, especially when it could effect peoples dietary needs. On complaining to CC themselves i was told the branch should not be doing this. They have also taken it upon themselves to only give skimmed milk in certain drinks and have been told by head office not to mention it to customers, which i think is disgusting, again it should be customers choice! Not the cleanest costa coffee, and not the best stocked and a lot of the really good staff have gone now. Lets hope they can hold down the new staff and produce good service and drinks in the future.

We like Costa coffee and this branch did not disappoint. Great coffee, hot food and quick friendly service. This is a large branch with plenty of seating - although the seats towards the rear are a little in the dark.

Our party of 7 called in for a coffee one Saturday morning and had no problem finding seats. The layout is spacious and the coffees are of course, delicious!

During my day trip to Ashby-de-la-Zouch, I was delighted to find that even though there are none of the gaudy chain stores in the little village, there was still a Costa Coffee for me to enjoy one of their lattes in a large French double handled cup with a slice of the divine lemon drizzle cake.The staff were very friendly, and went out to the kitchen to get a new lemon cake just for me.I love the relaxing soft, puffy lounge chairs and couches.Costa is a place I can relax and enjoy a good coffee.

Called in for coffee. Served quite quickly and took drinks to table by the window. The chairs looked comfortable but when you sit on them they are awful. Used to have really nice seating.

Use this to meet work colleagues from time to time and is pleasant and convenient space to meet as a group. Usually plenty of space and efficient staff.

It's a Costa. They get very busy at peak times - 11am onwards and you can wait in the queue easily 10 minutes before placing your order. If you're eating/drinking inside, it's a tale of two halves, with the back half being rather grotty and transport cafe like, and a brighter and more open front half which looks onto the street. They advertise free wi-fi but it's often not working. I rarely buy food here as it's expensive for what it is but the coffee is the usual good Costa standard. The manageress needs to take some smile pills...

Love the spaciousness of this place. Room to relax and chat with comfy seats and contemporary decor. Friendly staff and of course great coffee, cakes and snacks. Keep up the good work.

Called here to grab bite to eat with a colleague before heading to a meeting. Staff friendly and Bacon roll and latte good. Nice high street Costa.

This seems to be a place to see and be seen, by all ages, in Ashby. We have visited several times, simply for coffee and the fact that there are reasonable toilets therein.Things are usually in stock, but certain items such as porridge, can be out of stock at busy times. Recently refurbished, new seating is lovely. Staff make every effort to consistently present a pleasant atmosphere and provide a good service. Ample room for all mobility needs. Wifi evident, judging by those using laptops.Worth visiting, mid to late morning or mid afternoon may be easier times to pop in.

It's really bad service. The q is often out the door! 5 staff and still a long wait. It's noisy and seems to be more of a crèche these days!!!

This is a summary of the past 6-12 months. Whether it's a solo visit or with family I'll be in the queue for 15 minutes minimum. "That's not bad" it is when your 6th in the queue. "Why not complain" I have and you get bored of free vouchers for Costa HQ. It got to the point I said I don't want anything just sort out the place. I'm coming at this from being a previous barista (younger days) in a very busy and popular award winning non chain coffee shop. This Costa is ridiculously slow in how they deal with customers. It's always well staffed and it's the same staff but it always seems like someone has surprised them with the fact they have to run a coffee shop today. I've been in the queue before and people have left after a 20min wait. People pop head in the door and leave as they know how horrendous it is. Empty tables are covered with past customers mess and when you get to order its like you've asked for the world. Customer service is negative at this place. What a shambles on the high street. I'm done with this Costa and with others...back to non-chains for me.

Ok cafe although not my favourite coffee. It's right on the Main Street and although not a very big shop has a nice sunny front.

I have never had a bad coffee in here but it does get very very busy which is good for them but not so great if you want a catch up with a friend!

Well located on Market street. Spacious but can get very busy! Loved the coffee, great carrot cake, as well as the iced brioche bun! Staff are friendly and courteous but clearly can get overwhelmed. Still a great place to have a coffee and spend a lazy morning.

Always good coffee here. Lots of seats and a nice atmosphere. Can sometimes wait to be served but always worth it.

I have visited this Costa location on several occasions for takeaway drinks and have always found the service to be slow and the drinks to be poor by coffee standards and mediocre by Costa coffee standards. Today, my wife and I visited with our son as a treat for him. We planned to drink in and as it was a Sunday, I expected things to be better. Sadly not, we entered the store to find a long queue with surprisingly, FOUR members of staff behind the counter. Two manning the coffee machine, one taking orders and one preparing sandwiches where needed. There was also an additional member of staff collecting dirty dishes and replenishing the stock of clean cups for the counter. It took at least 10 minutes to reach the till for the order to be taken and 14 minutes for the order of one americano, one bottled drink (taken by myself from the self service area) and one cake to be ready. There is no care or warmth from the person taking the orders (I think she is the manager) and there is no care taken when preparing the drinks. During my wait, I noticed two instances of incorrect / unsatisfactory drinks being presented to two customers, one instance of warm sandwiches being taken to a table before the staff had begun preparing the accompanying drinks amongst the general chaos. When it came to my drink, the order taker stepped in, in an attempt to bring order to the growing number of empty trays waiting to be filled but simply added to the problems but managed to prepare my coffee in the most rushed and uncaring manor which resulted in an almost undrinkable offering but I was simply grateful for anything at this point. The root cause of all the issues is the lack of any organisation behind the counter. In every other coffee shop I visit, independent and chain, there is a system where either the person who takes the order, prepares part or all of the order or if the ordering and preparation is managed separately, everybody has a role where here, those preparing coffees simply stabbing randomly at orders in a poor effort to reduce the ever increasing work load. The morale of the staff is clearly low which effects the atmosphere of the store. I think we will be visiting Dolce next time.

Since the shop was refurbished last year, it has given the store a more contemporary and welcoming feel. There is plenty of space to relax, a very good choice of newspapers, and an extensive range of food and drinks. The service is efficient and friendly, and the location is ideal in the centre of Ashby.

You know what you're getting with a chain coffee shop so if you like this chain it's a nice one. Right in the centre of an attractive market town it is light and spacious altho not massive, and has friendly staff. There are lots of independent coffee shops though so it can't assume loyalty unless you are s particular fan of Costa!

This over-visited cafe takes a great deal of hammering during the day and is exceptionally busy. As a result, the hard working staff often struggle to keep up with orders but they do what they can. Provisions are plentiful throughout the day, so where preparations for business can be made, they certainly are. There always seems to be some sort of bun-fight to secure the peripheral soft seating by the customers. The table and dining chairs area is central, with rather a goldfish-in-a-bowl effect in the whole cafe. This could surely be adjusted somehow by the management? But the cafe is visited by people of all ages, pushchairs are welcomed and the occasional wheel chair has been seen in there, but there is not much space. Queuing and exiting systems compromise each other, but people do manage it. The toilet area is spacious, with a very curious series of archways over it. It is a typical busy Costa, one that is seriously overworked by the public each day and has endemic distress signs of this by the afternoon periods, despite the staff all working hard to keep up with front of house as well as service behind the counter. (Decaffeinated tea was not available on request.)

This Costa’s, located on the main street of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, has a wonderful ambience and is spacious and comfortable. The staff are charming and friendly, and there are plenty of tasty snacks and tempting confectionery available. The background music is pleasant and not obtrusive or dominant. It is rightly popular with the locals.

This costa has officially turned in to a school room with the choice of hard chairs and tables - compared to the softer furnishings before. On occasions, it takes about fifteen minutes waiting to order. The noise level can be pretty high with the hard furnishings only adding to the effect. The hot chocolate, a personal favourite of mine, is nice but not supreme and the coffee, I have heard, is of a variable quality depending on the Barista that makes it

Costa Ashby is unlikely to be seen as a failure mainly because it has a central location and plenty of room for customers. However it's a shame that there isn't another local competitor with such location and size, as it would probably convince Costa to do something to stop their plummeting service. Service is slow, quite possibly a bit sullen and you will (eventually) get to the end of the queue to find there are no sweeteners in stock (again), your coffee is half full, your toast is impersonating flat crisp bread and you will be sitting on furniture apparently designed to get you out of the shop as quickly as possible.

We visit this Costa frequently. It's always clean and the service is good compared to other Costas. Recently redecorated and comfortable. Only downside for me is that it's quite noisy and parking nearby can be quite tricky. Why are there never enough newspapers??

The service was good the place was clean and tables were cleared reasonably quickly although there were a couple that still had the previous customers dirty pots on. I give this a score of 8/10.

The hot chocolate I ordered was Luke warm and it was a very noisy environment. Quite expensive for what you get.

I have to say I go in Costa Ashby quite often. but mainly when the Costa manageressIs there. Don't get me wrong you tend to stick with one Batista who knows how you like your coffee made.Most of the other Costa's simply cannot make a simple flat white but she does it perfectlyIf you like great service, great coffee, and pleasant surroundings then pop in

It's been a few months since my last review of this Costa in ashby . There have been no changes as a result of my and similar reviews . All I can assume is that there is no autonomy on the part of the cafe owners or management as even a change in the layout ( wooden tables nearer back ...sofas near front) would make a difference. The new layout is appearing in all costas I visit and the biggest thing I notice is the increase in noise because of the removal of soft furnishing and carpets. There is a fundamental change going on in the chain . Previously the ethos was " come in sit down and enjoy a coffee and a break" now the cafes seem to say " come in ,drink up and leave" . If Whitbread , who own this business did this in their pubs ..." Come in drink your beer and go!" then no one would frequent them. I fear the same is going to happen to Costa... But the overall impression I get is .."we don't care ! " . Staff in ashby are great ,they always are! The wifi has become a major issue for me and is sending me to wetherspoons if I need to use the Internet. It was great before the refurbishment but is now so unpredictable that Costa is no longer my first choice of coffee shop. All such a shame !

As a 'regular' should we say to costa, I believe the customer service to be second to none. The manager, Lisa, is always polite, chatty and attentive. Despite queues (what can you expect if everyone wants a good coffee) I have never struggled to find a seat. It's always exciting when the new Christmas and summer drinks are announced. Perfect place to catch up with friends, albeit at a price.

Now nicknamed the Transport Cafe, changing the layout means it's now lost some of it's cosy charm. Upholstered chairs and leather sofas replaced by boring wooden dining chairs. Staff fantastic as always though, and food and drink of Costa's usual high standard.

Just popped in for coffee as I had a few minutes to kill. Place very nice and the coffee excellent. Only criticism was the wait. Four people in front of me in the que but still had to wait for over 15 minutes to be served. I know the coffee is made fresh to order but surely there must be a quicker turn around than this. Maybe having more than one Barista making the coffee might help. Just a thought !! Overall though a very pleasant experience, just be prepared not to be in a rush.

Do you mind having your coffee in a take away cup because the dishwasher is broken, the manager is on holiday and the assistant manager its her day off? Having walked over 3 miles to have a nice coffee before walking back home I certainly do not appreciate poor service by youngsters who are there for the wage and no idea of common sense and delivering customer service and care. Buy some fairy liquid and dedicate somebody to wash up??????? ring Costa panic line and get an engineer en route??? Bloody useless, went down the road to Wetherspoons for their coffee. PS!!! Using disposable cups is not cost effective and bottle of fairy liquid cheaper, but then having to wash up not good for the staff idle chat hugging the counter discussing the Saturday night , and OMG clearing tables is a right bummer when idle chit chat between staff far more important.

This weekend I enjoyed a costa coffee with some friends before doing a bit of shopping. Very busy in the cafe but to me that's just reassuring on the quality (I worry more when establishments are quiet!!) Of course, overpriced.. But the cafe was comfortable, the toilets were clean and the coffee was delicious.

Everytime I go to this costa there is always a queue, the person on the till seems quite friendly but the gentleman who frequently makes the coffees I find to be impolite, lacking of manners and ignorant. Whenever he make the coffee he plonks it on the side and that is pretty much it! when you say thank you he very rarely even acknowledges nevermind replies

I used to really like this Costa Coffee. They have ruined it with a very ill advised make over. Gone are the front sofas that everyone loved....and why no carpet?. It was inviting and cosy now it's cold and unappealing.

Usually an above average Costa , staff always make brave efforts to thwart owners attempts to ruin their own business. Most recently adopting what is apparently the new Costa layout..... A schoolroom look with hard sit up and beg chairs , as uneasy on the small of your back as they are on the eye. If your idea of treating yourself to a coffee break is akin to staying in your own office or kitchen (but much more expensive ) then you'll love what they've done to the place. Colour scheme is relaxing and with a bit of money spent on an interior design expert ( or listening to customers ) the cafe could yet be redeemed . I'm not holding my breath tho. This new layout will save me money however as I start to explore new places to find a relaxing coffee treat...or maybe just put the kettle on at home !
