The food was awful. My partner ordered Katsu curry and chips, but got rice. Both of the patties on burger were black and hard. The food was dumped on the table, and the girl just left before we could mention the issues. The chips were cold and dry, we couldn’t hear each other speak because the screens showing the football were so loud. We won’t be coming again.

We were visiting a tourist attraction in the area and noted that the Bulls Head did food so we popped in. We ordered two cheese and bacon toasties which came with "dirty fries" with an additional order for a side salad. We waited 45 minutes and then approached the bar to enquire where our (very basic) food was. I was advised that our order was being prepared next and the male staff member said "we did warn you on ordering that food was taking 45 minutes". I replied that this had not been conveyed to us (as we would certainly not have continued with the order but found an alternative location for our "snack"). Satisfied that our food would be arriving immanently I returned to my table. I waited a further 25 minutes and returned to the bar to again, asking where our food was. I was advised that it was literally on it's way out of the kitchen. So again, I returned to our table and true to his word, the food arrived, but it was NOT what was specified on the menu which had stated "dirty fries" (topped with bacon and chopped spring). Our fries merely had some sauce drizzled over. This was absolutely the last straw. I returned to the counter with the food and asked to speak with the Manager as I wished to have a refund as the food was not as specified. I duly got out my credit card (original method of payment) but was immediately provided with a cash refund. I believe that the staff just wanted to get us out of the premises quickly as it was very obvious that we were far from happy. Luckily we are not local and therefore not likely to be in the area again but needless to say, if we were, we would certainly NOT be making a repeat visit.

We live locally so we know you don't go here for fine dining but for a quick bite to eat it's normally ok. Last Saturday it was dreadful. I had lasagne which came with garlic bread and a side salad and I ordered a side of fries. There is nothing good to say about it. The lasagne was tiny and so very runny. The garlic bread was two "slices" but actually about two mouthfuls in each. Which actually wasn't a bad thing as it was cold. Not just been out of the grill a while cold, but straight out of the fridge cold. The chips were again a tiny portion. Oven chips as you'd expect from such a place but they appeared to have been cooked some days before and then microwaved. The side salad was two slices of tomato and a huge pile of spring, white and red onion. Service was non existent. Shan't be eating here again.

Food took quite a while, although they didn't seem too busy. Chips arrived stone cold, wonder how long they were sitting. Husbands burger was apparently lovely though. Also Heinz mayo left out on tables, opened, dated with a sticker a few days ago. FDA recommend not doing this, I personally wouldn't ever take the risk of eating mayo that has been unrefrigerated for days at room temperature.

Visited with my Children as part of a birthday celebration with his friends, reserved a table a week before and pre ordered the meal selection. Took an hour for food to arrive despite pre ordering and people coming in after us and being served quickly. Food arrived wrong, burnt to a crisp, fish was inedible and had to go back to the kitchen. Chips were rock hard, vegetables rubbery and salad was old and dry. Allnof the children picked upnon this amd we felt extremely embarrassed for my son. Desert came out and was wrong so again had to wait for replacement. All in to feed 8 of us took 3 hours for bad food. Staff couldn't care less with unhygienic practices from the manager who was going to distribute spoons by holding the part which goes in your mouth!

The only downside to my visit is that I had to pay to get an extra toast, I would normally not request for but it was good and just one toast was not enough to savour all the deliciousness. I paid £1.99 for a toast I wasn’t able to finish. So I feel like the £2 I paid for extra toast wasn’t justified . Aside that they serve great meals.

Food sat on hot counter for at least 20 mins, I know because I rang at 7.10pm chasing as the food wasn't even in prep at that time. Guy who answered explained food was ready but there was no driver available and the driver is the one who updates the status of the food?! Delivery driver finally picked it up at 7.20pm with estimated delivery time of 7.30pm. Delivery finally arrived at 7.40pm after ringing 2nd time. Hangry just about covers it. The BBQ burger was tasty, the fries were good, onion rings are hard to get wrong and the chicken tender burger was ok. If it had arrived hot, I'm sure it could have been a great meal. Disappointed at the delays, wish they would allow collection whilst it's hot and fresh. Ultimately, feel like I could have had a similar meal in Spoons for half the price with better service which is such a shame.

Based on a lot of reviews we’ve seen, it seems like this is recurring issue of delivery drivers pinching food and definitely not their sloppy checks on orders going out…

Travelling home along the A42 we decided to pull in to Ashby to find some lunch. On the High Street we walked into this traditional old pub of the sort that usually offer good old fashioned hospitality. Unfortunately this one did nothing of the sort. It started off promisingly enough - friendly staff behind the bar. However our food took an astonishingly slow full hour to arrive - and that was only because we pointed out my husband was diabetic and really needed to get some food inside him ! How long does it take to heat up mass produced lasagne, or to grill a simple breakfast? It wasn’t exactly busy... pretty quiet in fact. We could have driven back home to Worcester to prepare our own lunch in the time it took to arrive ! We were not the only ones suffering this fate - a couple on a neighbouring table had ordered two burgers, and ended up panicking as it slowly became the time to pick their kids up from school- they ended up having to bolt them down in seconds flat ! Don’t get me started on the loos either. Not very salubrious. Of the three cubicles in the ladies, only one had the seat fixed on straight - and that had no loo paper left. All in all the whole experience was dire and we shall never return!

As usual my moans first, we booked a table for 6, arrived and found our own table reserved for us, place was empty except for a few delivery drivers and a few locals having a drink, yet when we came to order we were told there was about a 45 minute wait for food! Apparently deliveroo and the like take preference over customers who actually turn up. Food portions are on the small side - burger and chips is just that, no side salad and if you order chips you get about a dozen in a bowl- whether that is because its part of a meal deal whereby you get a free soft drink or an alcoholic one for an extra quid I'm not sure, fries seemed to be the better option. Anyway now for the pluses - the place itself is lovely, cleacn and tidy, plenty of room and has a good selection of drinks, including draught ales. Service was good and the food, I'm glad to say wasn't a 45 minute wait, more like 10-15 minutes which is fine, and worth the wait, all our party said how nice the food was, just a pity there wasn't a bit more of it, a little side salad and a few more chips would have been great. I will probably return to have another meal as the food was very tasty and this time I'll have the fries!

For dessert my wife had the Millionaire's Puddle Pudding and I had the Crumble of the Day which was Salted Caramel Apple. They were both delicious. The pub itself is thought to be the oldest building in Market Street. Parts of it date back to the 1300s it is believed. It is also thought to have been popular with the Parliamentarian supporters during the English Civil war and Oliver Cromwell is supposed to have stayed there. It has kept its character and for that alone is well worth a visit. The pub has a Cask Marque and the pint of Pedigree I had was very nice.Soft drinks are also available including tea and coffee.

First off, let me start by saying the staff were lovely no fault with them at all. However, drinks were expensive at just over £10 for just 2 bottles of cider, which seems ridiculous when you can get a return ticket to Leicester for almost half of that. Also, toilets, where do I start? The cubicles are small, like really small. I'm not particularly big, but I couldn't get in the cubicle properly, I had to walk backwards until I was over the toilet before I could shut the door! There's just no room for manoeuvre. My husband visited the men's and he reported it was most unpleasant. The only cubicle was in a disgusting state, and being in a desperate situation, my poor husband had to clean the toilet before he could even use it! Also, the seat wasn't connected properly. He shouldn't have had to do that in the first place. So our first and most probably last visit was not a happy one.

Thought we would try this pub on a biking trip through Leicestershire. Looked lovely for a warm Friday night. Queued at the bar, took ages to be served, it seemed the bar staff couldn't keep track who was next to be served. After ordering, the wrong amount was entered into the card machine and had to wait while the manager sorted it out, stood and waited only to be told it had already been done but having not been told I waited at the bar for no reason. We ordered food at the same time as the drinks as the bar wait time was long. After 45 minuets we checked to see where the food had got to as we only ordered two simple burgers, which we were told they were busy with orders and we were next out. We understand a busy night but most tables were empty and there was no upfront warning that it was going to be a long wait. Another twenty minutes went by and the table in front received two burgers. Having waited much longer than them and having waited an hour we asked again about our food only to be told it had been given to another table and we would be waiting another five minutes to a make new one. We had honestly lost the will to live at this point. Finally after an hour and twenty minutes we received two burgers. One was missing sauce but we couldn't ask for any as the staff avoided our table like the plague. We weren't table checked or offered compensation for the abysmal service and treatment. Won't be returning any time soon.

Great lunch. Both had veggie burgers. Pedigree was poorly poured but still drinkable. Sean who took our order was awesome, made us feel very welcome. He made us smile too! He made our visit. Raffle ticket no 25

My family visited here 08/04/23. A regular of Stonegate pubs up and down the UK. Interior and setting of the pub is lovely. Service slightly slow and okay at best... Good selection of drinks on offer. Food however was poor hence low score. I had nachos, there was no guacamole and no jalapenos, I could tell the nachos had been under the hot pass whilst the other food was cooking as the cheese had turned rock hard. Asked for this and was advised both were out so had Frank's hot sauce. Sister-in-law had BBQ chicken and chicken and bacon was hard. Onion rings tasted on oil, oil needs changing in kitchen. Asked for new onion rings. Husband had a burger that should have been on a glazed bun, it wasn't. Brother in law's gammon was incredibly pale. Lots of glasses and plates left on tables whilst staff all gathered at one end of the bar chatting. Pub wasn't that busy so no need for it to look this way. Room for improvement., Could be a fantastic establishment with TLC.

Went in during the day recently and have to say it was very good. We had a meal and some drinks which were of a high standard. Also the service and the waitress who served us was very good also. This is an amended review from some years ago which was not a good experience. Keep up the good work!

The staff were nice and helpful. The food came out quickly. However, the food wasn’t great - the veg on the roast dinner was hard and it generally tasted low quality. I also found it bizarre that the waiter said we couldn’t have an itemised bill printed out until after we paid? As there were no drink prices on the menu, it made working out who owed what a bit of a pain. We also felt a little uneasy not being allowed to see the breakdown of what things cost and being able to check the bill like you normally can. It was also strange that we couldn’t pay at the table and had to go up to a terminal to pay. Lastly, the Mother’s Day ‘deal’ wasn’t a deal at all as the dishes we had would have cost less if we paid for them individually.

Visiting the area and saw this place. Looked lovely from outside and the menu suited us all. Found a table quite quickly and within a few moments of being seated a lovely lady came to take our order. This is an added bonus for us. Always nice to go out and not have to go up and down the bar. Food came out in a timely manner. We had two mixed grills, last fish of the day and hunters chicken. Everything was eaten and nothing could have been improved in our opinion. Will defo come back. Hopefully it will be a warmer day so we can head to the terrace area.

A return visit .... Enjoyed our Full English and toast . My decaf. Coffee was alittle weak and tepid, prefer a stronger blend . Liked the condiments on the table instead of fiddly sachets! Friendly atmosphere, clean tables not sticky from the previous nights drinkers Much appreciated.! Toilets clean and pub comfortably busy in the A.M on a weekday, nice to see. Back soon when we visit the town again.

The waiting staff and bar staff here are excellent. Very able and polite. The drinks and prices of the drinks are very good. The building and it's history was interesting to read. The food is poor. My almond pesto linguine had no almond pesto and no sauté mushrooms as listed. I did request it was mentioned to the chef who said: "yes I forgot it" which I felt was a really hollow excuse and we did get offered a free drink, but didn't take them up on it.

Friday night & no fish & chips My wife had the pesto linguine, minus the pesto & mushrooms. No mustard for the mixed grill, surely can do better with standard pub food ?
