Very welcoming to us - a group of walkers with dogs and a child. Good food. Met the new landlord (sept 24) and the new chef (Nov 24) all nice people, really wanting to make the business work. We even enjoyed a slice of the landlord's birthday cake. Good luck - see you again!

Lovely atmosphere with the new owners. Super friendly and welcoming. Had Sunday dinner here tonight and food was delicious. Top standard. Veg was crunchy and not soggy like lots of places. Meat cooked just perfect (beef and pork options had today) Desserts enjoyed by my 3 - clean plates all round. We have enjoyed it that much have booked for Christmas Day. Such an incredible improvement because of the new manager and chef. Had been here before the change in manager so today’s visit was an incredibly different experience. Very high standards with fresh ingredients, cooked and presented beautifully. Had a wonderful family dinner here, will be back soon. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and very competitively priced considering the high standard. One of the best pub meals we’ve eaten in a long time, every one of our party was very happy

We have visited The Globe for several years now. The atmosphere especially because it’s dog friendly. The service was excellent and staff were extremely friendly. The coffee was excellent, frequently lattes have very little taste but these had a good strong coffee taste. Well done! When I am paying over £15 for fish, chips and peas, I do expect to have real chips, made from fresh potatoes ran a bag of frozen chips, heated up in the fryer. I can buy frozen chips my local supermarket. I do like to have food that is a little different when I go out for a meal.

Ladies loo has thick black crusty edges around the floor, a real sign of staff laziness. On cubicle liht (the one without the window) was not working, so not useable. Beer prices have rocketed since late August, by a pound a pint. There were very few people in there, and it was fairly obvious why. Businesses like this need to be well managed, this one has gone well downhill and will not last if this low standard is maintained. Like many other comments on here, this place has been excellent up until very recently. If it carries on like this it will close.

The Sunday roast beef was well overcooked and grey and tough. The green cabbage and beans were an enormous portion and carrots overcooked and tasteless. Worst Sunday lunch I have had in a long time. The excuse for the meat was ´the. Hex cools everything like that ‘ . I feel either sorry for the chef as he is trained to do this or pity him for his unprofessional attitude. I do NOT recommend the food here .

My husband and I have loved The Globe for many years, we visited this week and it has gone massively downhill. The ales have been put up in price (£5.95 for Bass when it was £4.20 when we last came), the tall girl with glasses behind the bar was rude and couldn’t pour a pint, I didn’t catch her name but she was wearing a cardigan. We were going to stop for food but decided not to, the pub was not very busy and little atmosphere. What a shame as it has always been a beautiful pub. Obviously standards have dropped since being taken over.

This place was recommended to us by an associate. We were eager to try it, expecting delicious village pub fare. I naturally ordered the fish and chips. My wife had the New York Chicken. Kids had cheese burger and chips (kids meals). The kids food arrived first, their cheeseburger and chips, while dry was leagues above what my wife and I got. The New York Chicken was dry with minimal BBQ sauce and cheese melted to the point it had practically all slid off. Straight-cut oven chips, a bit of side salad and a watery coleslaw came with it. The fish and chips didn't fare well either. The batter was light and crispy, but the fish was watery and bland. The same straight-cut oven chips and under-microwaved frozen garden peas that had never even heard of salt, never mind introduced to it. The kids meals were approx the same size as ours but for a third of the price. Their chips were lovely and crispy "v-cut" style fries that my wife and I would have preferred over the oven chips we were served. All-in-all, a poor dining experience.

Probably the worst burger I’ve ever had in a pub: tasted like a school dinner with some sorry looking chips which looked like the dregs from a McDonalds frying basket. Staff asked how the meal was but when I responded they merely told me that noone else had ever complained; therefore the quality must be of a high standard. They were completely indifferent to my remarks

Since my last review in June 24 titled “Not Great” I went back into The Globe yesterday evening after work to meet my boyfriend and friends. I was served by the barmaid who was polite and friendly. I ordered a gin & tonic, sadly they STILL didn’t have any ice!!! My boyfriend the went to order another round of drinks but was refused service by Jo, who told him she didn’t feel comfortable serving him as I was there. I went to speak to Jo and was told she didn’t want to serve us as I made her feel uncomfortable as I had previously put a negative Trip Advisor review on for The Globe and as such had tried to ruin her sisters business (her sister being the previous landlady but now under new management) I said that I had already been served by someone that was happy to serve me and asked that girl if she would serve me again. The lady that previously served me then said she wasn’t working anymore so couldn’t. I have tried to contact The Globe privately to rectify the situation but have didn’t receive a response and have since been blocked from making contact with them. Poor service and not willing to engage with customers to rectify dissatisfaction.

Booked early for Father’s Day, my husband and I had visited before and really enjoyed the food so our daughters booked for us and son in laws and granddaughter to revisit explained we wouldn’t have the dog with us so would like to eat in the restaurant ( absolutely nothing wrong with eating in the bar area ) on arrival lead to upstairs area than could only be described as a attic!! Filthy carpet random furniture stacked in corner of the room and dirty window with mould growing around it you couldn’t see though it. We explained ( politely) this wasn’t what we requested or expected and was told by the manager in a couldn’t care less attitude with no empathy or apology were busy it’s Father’s Day!!Her options were take what’s offered or wait 30 mins and they maybe could offer other tables seating 2/3 people not a great opinion on Father’s Day with 7 people in the group so we left. Not a great way to celebrate Father’s Day so thanks to the Globe for potentially ruining Father’s Day!!!

This is my local and it has gone seriously downhill. The food is ok as it goes but have had better. We tend to travel out to other pubs in other villages if we want a meal as the food and atmosphere is better elsewhere. The staff are not particularly bothered about the pub or its customers. The previous review about having no ice or a slice available is not out of the ordinary annd they often don’t have lager or other drinks available when you ask for them. The clientele has changed somewhat and as for the customers swearing it reflects that and the staff think it’s normal, so why would they challenge it?!?! Sad to see the pub this way as previously it was always full and you couldn’t always get a table. The pub now looks run down and uncared for, not a pub that you feel welcomes you. Sad really

Arrived at 2.15ish, ordered drinks and water for table. Coffee arrived, waited and waited for other drinks and had to remind waiter and waited until they arrived. Water did not arrived until we eventually went to the bar and got our own. Waited 55 minutes for our meal which only arrived after speaking to a member of staff. The young girl who ‘waited’ on us never cracked a smile. The food arrived luke warm and when asked why it took so long the young waitress said they were short staffed! While we were still eating the young waitress came in with a very unhappy face and sprayed the table next to us which went over one of our dinners. Spoke to the manager who did take the drinks off the bill! We explained that this restaurant was recommended to us but we will sadly not be doing the same. Very disappointed with terrible service, from the young girl, not the other waitress! Lack lustre meal, will definitely not be back!!

Another pub that keeps their beer well. Things are looking up! Food was good too. A canalside location and a camping field behind the carpark add the options of taking the kayaks or making a night (or two!) of it in a campervan. The campsite is cheap but offers no facilities (1 loo, no sink) outside pub opening hours, so it wouldn't be a great backpacking experience. A simple toilet block would make all the difference. The Hub Cafe at Moira Furnace saved us with warm space indoors and quick service. There is a sunny area outside that traps the warmth even on this the coldest of subzero days. There is a nice pottery and other shops in the same courtyard. Other local cafes had > 1/2 hour queues, with little but prepackaged snacks and no seating.

As a local Ashbian I have some knowledge of the pub over the last 40 years and I would say much of that is positive. However have being served today 8pm (Sunday) with a pint at £5.40 (up 20p pre budget) and having sat down bring told I have 10 minutes to drink it is somewhat less than acceptable.
