Wonderful village pub in Ashton. Great food. Had the kids roast and the chocolate cheesecake. Wine a tad expensive at £12 a glass but thoroughly enjoyed it here. Will be back.

I had the most delightful meal with a friend at this lovely pub. Great service great food. The pudding was too good, so I’m going back for another one!!! Highly recommend! I had nibbles a starter and main and pudding. It was too much really, but only because the portions were so good. Not a splat on the plate! It is food I would serve at home!

The food was 1st class. The waitress was a very helpful and polite young lady. Will definitely call again.

Came on a quiet Tuesday night for dinner. The pub itself is lovely, not as run down as people have made it sound. Staff was great, very attentive. Food was all very nice and fresh, had the Pie of the day which was steak and ale, lots of steak! The desserts all looked great too, but was too stuffed from the main (food portions!) to have one. Will be back.

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend. When we arrived we instantly thought we'd made the wrong choice. The place does look a bit dull and run down. Upon entering the restaurant we all looked at each other and almost turned around to walk out. The place is very tired looking and has the feel of a local pub rather than someone that sells good food. The service was a bit hit and miss. We asked for a drinks menu but were told they don't have one. I couldn't for the life of me fathom why on earth a pub/restaurant wouldn't have a drinks menu for diners. The girl working there took our drinks orders and brought them over. We waited for what seemed like an eternity for someone to come over to take our food order. Eventually one member of our party went up to the bar and asked if we could order some food. Luckily we decided to stay, as we knew the place has good ratings on Google, and our friend has told us the food was really good. We are glad that we made the decision to stay, as the food was very good. Everything was very hot and fresh, and the portions were a decent size. The only recommendation I have is that the new York deli burger is missing some sort of condiment. I would probably suggest mustard mayonnaise just to finish it off with the cheese pastrami and gherkins. However it was very tasty and we would probably return to eat here again. All in all the service and appearance of the place probably let it down slightly, and if the food wasn't such good quality I would probably give it 3 stars. It seems like there was a lack of attentiveness from staff towards diners. However, once we had their attention, the staff were extremely polite and friendly. Our total bill was £95 for 4 people. This included 4 main courses, 2 sides, and 4 drinks. In all honesty I think the 5 star rating is slightly generous given the appearance both outside and inside, and the attentiveness from staff, and lack of a drinks menu, but these issues were not major enough to warrant deducting anything from the rating. I would say, however, that the initial appearance and ambience when we walked in very nearly made us turn round and walk back out.

Just wanted to give a review after our fabulous Christmas party night out with these guys, was fabulous from start to finish, very helpful with booking and of course the food was amazing but it always is, but the stars of the show were the staff, nothing was too much trouble and they were all so lovely, so a big thank you guys and keep up the good work, and any customers thinking of going please be kind, it costs nothing to have manners and treat them with a little respect they deserve it xxxxx 🥰

Really pleased we drove past this place, we stopped in and it was great. The atmosphere was excellent everyone was really friendly. Good selection of drinks. We had some snacky food, pigs in blankets, flat bread and humus, and great crisps and chocolate behind the bar. Lovely outside space, which backs on to a work with another playground. Really recommend

We have just enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at this wonderful pub!! The staff were brilliant, polite, friendly and engaged constantly with my young daughter to ensure everyone had a great time... The meal was 10/10! Freshly cooked and very tasty, I will be returning for sure and would highly recommend it!! The pub has a lovely outdoor space with a park for the little ones.

Fantastic reception by staff. We were a large party (35) and accommodated in the marquee. The service was excellent and the food out of this world. Everyone enjoyed there food. Great portions, beautifully cooked, lots of delicious vegetables and excellent desserts. I would highly recommend.

Stopped off on our way up north. So glad we did! There was a really friendly welcome and very helpful staff. They had gf fish and chips on the menu which in itself is rare and it was absolutely delicious. I also have other dietary requirements that they accommodated without any problem. The other meals we order were also fab! Drinks and food was excellent value and of a very high standard. Lovely big garden and lots of space to sit outside. Excellent all round!

in sehr schönes Old Pup. Das Essen war Herforragend, hatte ein Steak, welches super geschmeckt hatte. Das Personal ist Sehr Freundlich. Die Einrichtung im Old Pup Look aber es wurde auch Modern eingerichtet. Aussen Sitzplatz Vorhanden und ein Aussen Zelt für grössere Veranstaltung. Es Spielplatz hat es auf der Wiese nur weiss ich nicht, ob dies zum The Old Crown Pup dazugehört.... Genisst die Old Pup's solange Ihr könnt, es wird in Zukunft nicht mehr viele geben, Leider!

We've been here 3 times for lunch when passing. The menu is varied, the food, as well as the drinks and service has always been excellent.

Excellent dishes on offer. Steak, Bass, Fish & Chips for us followed by Eton Mess and Malteser and Chocolate cheesecake. Absolutely magic service ... thank you.

This a beautiful old pub, with a fantastic garden area. I came back here, as came for first time two weeks ago. Was so impressed with everything had to return. The choice of food was great. Me and my new wife had our wedding reception here two weeks ago . Well I don’t know where to start with this fantastic place firstly it has to be the staff who are the most helpful and bar and restaurant staff we’ve ever had nothing is a problem for them even the day after they packed up all our stuff ready for collection saved us a massive job which we defo couldn’t be bothered with the day after . Then the place itself amazing venue perfect for the 30 kids we had there so safe and secure and they had the best time playing footy or in the park . The food was a bbq and it was ten ten Everyone who came to our day was so full of praise for the food and the way the staff handled it so perfect and chilled atmosphere just what we asked for not ritual or regimental one bit and plenty of extra for second helpings. I can’t recommend this place anymore the day was perfect In every way possible . The price we paid amd what we got was the best deal ever . Love Sarah amd Dan wing

A lovely lunch to celebrate a friend's 90th bithday

Sunday lunch today and nibbles to start really nice and the staff were lovely ! But shame about parent's who can’t control the screaming kids ! Couldn’t get out quick enough. That’s twice now over a weekend so next time it will be midweek when the little 🤬 are at school 😂😂!

We went to our daughters Wedding reception, highly recommend this fabulous pub, great friendly atmosphere, kids have play area and a green space, bbq was scrumptious we had a wonderful day.

Always great food and drink along with helpful, friendly staff. Just ignore the comic sans sign on the outside, it's not a children's play area - I promise.

Next level venue handling the volume of custom very well, We visited on the Friday booked in for The executive chef experience with international chef dale in the marque. The food was fantastic with live music outside in the background and a full patio and inside restaurant. this has become the place to go locally and our new go to.

Went today for Sunday lunch. Food was amazing . The staff very polite. 2 roasts. Lamb and I had the three roast dinner, lamb, pork and beef. All very fresh and tasty. Also a big shoutout to Meg and Alex. Their customer service was exceptional. Good work, will be returning again very soon …..

We came here for an evening meal recently, which was excellent. Very pleasant and helpful service with no feeling of being rushed. The Landlord and team here were outstanding when we locked out car keys in the car. They let us hang around inside while RAC was called and reassured us it was ok to leave our car in their car park when it became evident we couldn't get into the car that night. Thanks too Landlord for the coffee the following morning 😄. Simple human kindness that left us with good memories of the evening.

A perfect English pub experience! Staff amazing! Food was outstanding! Warm roaring fireplace, a local DNA draft and mouth watering fish and chips, sausage and mash, meat pies or anything you like was delicious. We all 5 of us couldn't rate this quaint English countryside village any higher for a stop off in the Rose of the Shires. Thatched roof village center topped off our expectations! The owner was so hospitable to our group and our car locking us out! We would love to go back here again anytime!!

This place is absolutely ideal for anyone with children...and dogs!! Very relaxed environment. The outside area is brilliant with play equipment. My two boys loved it!! Lots of tables perfectly position to watch them easily. The app could be better if it had descriptions of the meals. The service was brilliant. Friendly staff. The food was nice. My lamb flatbread with a little fatty but all in all we enjoyed our meal and will most definitely return. Thank you :)

1st Class all the way. This was our first ‘out’ ‘out’ for dinner since the winter 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.Andy, you & your amazing Team were on point. From booking a table (before the release of Roadmap 3)., to arriving to such a swarm welcome, the C-19 safety protocols…. And then the gorgeous wine & food was beyond exception. We have eaten at The Crown several times pre-Covid and have had a few takeaways during the 3 lockdowns, I mean how sick can you get of your own cooking! The food has always been outstanding and something to look forward to. The pizzas, burgers, fish & chips, flatbreads, sides and Sunday Roast have been delicious, certainly plenty of food and good value. I have to also say the gravy with the Sunday Roast is so tasty that we saved some to have with dinner the next day! I read a review that someone loved the chips and I agree they are lush. Oh and the onion rings are gorgeous too! Andy and his team do what they can to ensure your food experience is amazing. We cannot wait for The Crown to reopen for dine-in guests so we can have a lovely meal and see all the team again. Thanks Andy & team for making lockdown almost bearable!

We have been here a few times and the food has always been great. The menu is has the right number of options on. I prefer a place that keeps it concise and does it really well. The menu is varied and enough choice for all.The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great. As this is COVID times, they have put in place all the necessary measures and they are taking them seriously. Thank you for being a great local pub. Keep up the great work.

Half way through our family walk we decided to stop off for a drink. The wonderful smell persuaded us to stay for a roast. Absolutely delicious! My husband had the 3 meat, I had the brisket which I couldn't recommend enough! The boys both had very generous children's pork roasts. A thoroughly enjoyable unplanned meal (with a lack of cooking and clearing up when we get home) so all round win. One of the best Sunday roasts in a long time!

Great pub food served all day in a lovely old pub. Good service and felt very confident about all the COVID measures they had put in place. Will go again. They also do takeaways.

Everything about our visit was first class, excellent food, superb service and really sound Covid-19 measures in place. Recommend the roast lamb and the bread and butter pudding - delicious! Thank you to the chef and all the staff.

On our way home back north from a trip to Cambridge we did a Google map search of the area and came across the Old Crown at the top of the list... we rang on the slim chance of a table, no worries whatsoever. Lovely team of staff, extremely friendly atmosphere and an excellent meal. Social distanced one way system in place and we used the very user friendly app to place all orders which were brought to our table almost immediately. Top quality experience would highly recommend.

We have eat here before, on Sundays, & it`s always been good. However, we eat here midweek during the "eat in / help out" promotion, & it was really disappointing. Context is:1. Selection on main menu was significantly scaled down, & so there was only minimal choice2. Portions were small / sparse (eg only about 8 chips on the plate); burger was solely a burger, 8 chips, & a miniscule portion of coleslaw ......nothing else on the plate3. Quality was ok, but frankly no better than okSide issue, but the staff just did not seem to social distance from each otherI know they have been really busy with the "eat in / help out" promotion, but that`s no excuse for letting standards dip. Let me be clear, this pub does great food on Sundays, but I will never eat there again midweek as there are plenty of other options

We’ve always been keen on The Old Crown, but since they’ve reopened after lockdown it’s been brilliant.The table service and app to order drinks is great; and there is a very nice garden with kids play equipment to keep the little people entertained.The food is very good.

In these strange times of covid-related lock-down, which is a struggle for many businesses, it was really great to have such a delicious, well-cooked takeaway roast dinner to celebrate with the family in our garden with 2 metre knives and forks ;0)The food was freshly cooked, well packaged and had great instructions for re-heating. Thanks to Andy and all the staff in the kitchen and the friendly smiling faces of Abigail and Lucy.

Have visited The Old Crown many times and it's a favourite of ours. Excellent food, staff, service and atmosphere. Celebrated my 40th birthday there and it was amazing. Very accomodating. A real hidden gem.

Ever been for lunch somewhere and it was great so you take friends there the next week and it's rubbish? Well, NOT so The Old Crown. Always great food and delightful, friendly staff. Smashing well kept ale. Ham, egg and chips, a simple meal but done so well, excellent home made soup, excellent local sausages. Just great. Took my parents today . . . might have to go back next week to collect them!

This pub became our local in April 2019 and we have eaten there most weeks since. Friendly attentive staff and great pub food.Sunday lunch is a real favourite and you need to book to be certain of getting in. Really nicely kept beer, personally the Eagle IPA is excellent.This has become our go to place On Friday evenings for a straight from work pint and supper. Highly recommend it and all th friends and family we have taken there share our view

We recently went to The Old Crown for our wedding anniversary and we weren't dissspointed. We were welcomed with a smile. There was a great choice of drinks on offer and a fantastic menu. Definitely something for everyone. The Crown is a lovely pub which has a cosy atmosphere. The whole place is clean with lovely decor. The ladies offer handcream and other ladies essentials & was clean and with bright decor. Thanks Andy & team for a lovely evening.

Lovely Food, Lovely service. the chef is maga !! When i say Maga i Mean "Make Ashton Great Again". I see no negata covfefe on this place. No one has more respect for this food than me. Tremendous respect. I will prpbably come back here again, actually probably more definitley

Lovely pub, great ambiance, cosy corners, super food. Birthday lunch with a table of ten, mainly 23yr old boys, who really cannot make up their mind on anything quickly. The two lovely waitresses had them herded and organised in a jiffy. Lovely relaxed lunch spent.

The Sunday lunch here is good. Brilliant place and the food and service is ok, not so good. Not much else to do and nothing interesting.

It was a lovely atmosphere and busy when we visited. We hadn't booked but we got a table on spec as it was late afternoon/early evening. The two young men who served us were absolutely charming and friendly. I ordered a medium rare rump steak and it was just right. The plate was inviting with cherry tomatoes, field mushroom and crispy onions on the steak along with a small jug of pepper sauce and chips.

Went here for the first time yesterday for Sunday lunch, the food was excellent, the service was brilliant, and the attitude of the staff was superb. The roasts were great and the desserts delicious...We will be back...

Came here for our team Christmas lunch and it was one of the best Christmas lunches we’ve had in any of the local pubs. Plenty of food and well cooked and presented. Friendly staff too. Just watch your head on the wooden beams!

About thirty members of a local walking group arrived for a pre-booked Christmas Lunch. Our tables were all set out, complete with crackers and decorations, and we received a very friendly welcome. Good choice of beer and the Hobgoblin was in fine condition. Choice of two or three courses but personally I found two was plenty. Several had the traditional turkey and trimmings but I chose the salmon which was excellent. Coffee and mince-pies to follow. Despite our numbers the service was very slick and friendly and we all had our food at about the same time. It was our second year of visiting for our Christmas fare and I am sure we will return.

Our cul de sac had a brilliant Christmas meal here. The food was just excellent and didn't seem mass produced despite being 24 people. Lovely helpful friendly staff. Well done Andy and team!

I have visited this pub/restaurant many times over the last few years, and it never fails to deliver. The staff are lovely, and I can personally recommend the vegetarian meals which are innovative and delicious.

Arrived early Thursday evening after a long journey. They were preparing for a large Christmas party but went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we were given a table which hadn't been specially dressed for the party. Visited with friends for a pre Christmas catch up. The food was excellent. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Every course was delicious! We were looked after brilliantly. Checked on every course, drinks regularly topped up and food served quickly.

Thank you for wonderful food and great service. We asked for vegan, vegetarian and beef roasts...every one was cooked to perfection. Thank you we had a lovely Sunday lunch together and will return ASAP.

Great staff. Fantastic meal. Arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon hoping for a table. After some moving of tables we were able to sit down and order. Excellent menu, and excellent service all at a good price. Would advise to book a table ASAP.

We have been here twice, once for an evening meal and once for lunch. On both occasions we were treated to excellent food and service and at a reasonable price. It is one of our new favourite places to eat in the area and thoroughly recommend the Old Crown.

Wow! Excellent service, succulent meat and the best veg selection ever. Veggies cooked to perfections. Yorkshire’s good. Great value. The puddings looked amazing and, judging my the noises of appreciation were as good as the main courses.

I came here with a friend for sunday lunch after a dog walk in the nearby Salcey forest. We both ordered the lamb which was OK but nothing more. Having said that, I would come back and eat again but I have had better sunday lunches in the area.

Fish platter to share - had run out of smoked salmon, it was only 7pm. Platter was ok but nothing special. Rump steak - we both had this and both were tough, sadly this spoiled my birthday treat. Probably won't go back. Shame as it is a lovely busy pub.

Ryan cooked a medium rare fillet steak to perfection. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. As usual the food and service was excellent in this totally unpretentious village pub. Nearly full (as usual) on a midweek evening. Thanks Ryan (and Lucy and the team out front).

Although this is a family favourite this was my first visit there and anytime I am back in the area will definitely go back. Lovely setting, typical English countryside beauty. There were plenty of seating options inside and out. It is very nicely decorated and comfortable. You can tell it is a favourite with the locals, young families, and couples.

Food and service was excellent. The outside seating area and garden were beautifully kept and ideal for a hot summer’s day. Parking was ample and the service was courteous and quick. The kitchen went out of their way to meet our dietary requirements. Highly recommended for a quiet lunch in a cosy village pub .

The menu changed this week and what a treat. Lobster mac and cheese and the fish cakes accompanied by a great glass of wine.

Stopped off for lunch on Saturday, first visit as was passing through village. Good Food selection decided on burgers which were nicely cooked, great crispy chips. We shared a Chocolate torte for desert also excellent. Food was well presented and tasty. Husband had a good pint of Directors and said they know how to look after their beer. Lovely, friendly staff too.

Really good operation here and the food was excellent, I am in the business myself and came to see how the till system works from linkall. The girl that served us was using a tablet which made service really simple and efficient. Good wifi to.

Four of us visited on a busy Saturday evening. We were warmly welcomed and taken to our table and drinks orders taken quickly. We all ordered main courses which included belly of pork, lamb rump and sea bass. My sea bass came with new potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables which were all perfectly cooked. The sea bass had a crispy skin and the vegetables were the perfect accompaniment. Apparently the lamb and pork were just as good. Dessert included bread and butter pudding, steamed pudding and for me Strawberry Eton Mess which is one of my favourite desserts. It turned out to be one of the best I have eaten. The service was attentive and friendly. It was also very good value for money. We will be back.
