Staying in Blairgowrie and just walked here for dinner . I have food issues but the lady was very patient and managed to sort me a lovely dinner . I chose what was on the menu but they just took out the things I cant eat . For me that's food being made on the premises and not in a factory heated in a microwave . I am on holiday but it was a lovely wee walk from the town . They have rooms so next time I would stay here as it's a more relaxed feel here .

We met with my cousin and went to the old cross inn. We got a lovely welcome and shown to our seats. The menu and specials were explained and we were given time to make up our minds, the order was taken and the food was delivered and we were not disappointed , the pasta with spinach and pine nuts with chicken was amazing, my wife had the goats cheese and Pune nut salad which I sampled and was also amazing full of flavour , my cousin had a smaller portion fish and chips which still had too many chips for him but the fish was lovely. Then came the jewel in the crown desserts!!!! We all went for the special Eaton mess with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries the photo doesn’t do the desert justice it was so light and full of flavour . Can’t wait for our return thanks to the staff

Rooms very clean with a lot of personal touches added in. I myself enjoyed the beer garden. Certainly recommend. Thanks again Kelly & staff.

My cousin had fish and chips and the portion was too big for him ( they do smaller portions) if you look through the menu! Then he had cheesecake which he said was very good! Can’t wait to return

Not only were the staff friendly and professional, but they had blankets and patio heaters in the large gazebo outside, making our stay as normal as we could ever hope for, we enjoyed a lovely reasonably priced three course meal, the shining star being a double chocolate orange cheesecake. On first sight the Old Cross Inn isn’t the most beautiful pub in the world and I was initially slightly put off by this, but shouldn’t have been. The rooms were spacious (we had rooms 1 and 3) with decent bathrooms. The most notable aspect was the quality of the food and extremely reasonable prices. It is really good quality pub food, well cooked and presented. The sticky toffee pudding was wonderful! Sensibly priced wine list also. Breakfast was similarly of very good quality and generous portions. Ian and his team were really friendly and all in all I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay there.

Ordered an 8oz sirlion steak with fries and a cream pepper sauce fries and mushrooms. The meal came and the fries were very well seasoned with loads of salt. The pepper sauce was peppery but the over riding taste was extremely salty. Thought I would just eat the steak and it too was seasoned with lots of salt. Pity the food was very well cooked and presented. Extreme salty seasoning made the whole plate inedible to me. I sent it back and was immediately asked if I wanted to order something else. Given the others in the group I was with had been served and were eating their food, with no complaints, I decided againstordering another main, I was told the salad would not be salty. I eat out quite a bit this is the first time I have encountered food so over seasoned with salt I could not eat it. Great pity, nice location, atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent friendly service. Perhaps the chef is simply very old school and comes from an era when salt and loads of it was the norm in cooking.

We pulled into Blairgowrie with what we thought was a reservation at another hotel. Turns out our reservation had been cancelled by the third party booking agency and I was not informed. Imagine my immediate feeling of distress-It's now dark, we've driven from Edinburgh (a bit stressful for us, this UK driving thing!), we are supposed to be meeting friends and now we're late but most importantly we now have nowhere to sleep. Thankfully, the young woman behind the desk made a couple phone calls and found us a room at the Old Cross. Just .5 miles from the town square, we found a charming, inviting place even as we pulled into the parking lot. The Inn is small, just four rooms. We were greeted by Kelly who showed us upstairs to the room she quickly prepared for us. Lovely room overlooking the old church across the street, nice king bed and beautifully appointed bathroom. But best of all was the charm and graciousness of Kelly and Liam, the Inn owners. They quickly turned our moods to relaxed and called us a cab so we could get back to our friends. We spend two nights here and our Scottish friends immediately let us know we'd gotten lucky with the lodging. How right they were-The breakfast was prepared to order and delicious, from the coffee to the eggs and more. Unfortunately we did not get to enjoy dinner there-the menu looked really good. Our hosts were helpful, open and so welcoming. We sat with them at their restaurant bar one evening and learned lots about where to go and how to get there. We followed their plan to Inverness, it did not disappoint! The Old Cross Inn turned out to be one of our favorite places on this trip and we feel very lucky to have discovered them. Best choice for Blairgowrie/Rattray!

We came across this fab little place after planning a last minute getaway. This has to be the best value for money place we've been to yet (and we are frequent weekenders). It is situated about a mile outside Blairgowrie town centre, so a 10 - 15 minute walk or a couple of mins in the car. It may not be set in beautiful landscaped gardens, or be in the most scenic of settings, being on the main road, but it more than makes up for this in hospitality, comfort and wonderful food. The rooms are very spacious as are the en suits, the beds are very comfortable and extra big too. The little bar downstairs is cosy and friendly with its chesterfield couches and chairs, giving it a very relaxed feeling. The Chef is fantastic, as well as breakfast, which was gorgeous, we also dined at the Old Cross too, and did not regret this at all. My partner and I had different things from the menu on the second night, and everything was absolutely superb, the first night we both had the Old Cross burger - topped with the most delicious haggis and caramelised onion. It was awesome. Everything is home made, including the Aero cheesecake (amazing). We will definitely go back and I strongly recommend this lovely wee Inn. Incredibly good value for money at £140 for two nights double room B and B, and approximately £10 - 12 for dinner.

The Inn is very atmospheric and feels very authentic. We stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent and creative. The portion sizes were just right. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Parking is a bit tight but we managed to get a space each day.

First time my wife and I have been since the new owners took over. The food was delicious and imaginative and we were surprised at how small the bill was at the end! It's a small wine list and we were very happy with our choices. Staff were attentive but not too much. All in all, they created a lovely evening for us. We'll be back.

We booked a table for 6 of us to try out the new menu and there is also a new chef joined the team. Everyone of us enjoyed our meal! We were greeted from very friendly staff and seated in the restaurant. It was very busy, a great atmosphere. Most of us had three courses and it was so delicious. My partner loves to have a steak when out and he was not disappointed. It was cooked to perfection with a great choice of sauces to compliment. We will definitely be returning!

We were recommended by the tourist information office in the town,so thought it would be ok.At 1pm the place was empty,we ordered the Sunday Roast which was beef (there was only one choice). After a considerable wait we were served a plated meal of packet beef,3 small potatoes, 4 slices of carrot, one floret of broccoli and a small yorkshire pudding which had never seen the oven as it was cold and limp. The chef should have been ashamed to serve that paying customers.

Well where do we start? It is within 15 minute walking distance from the bus station in the main part of the town. Various regular bus services to get easily around if you do not drive, we got the bus in to Perth on the Saturday. It is in a quiet location across a bridge over a waterfall which is pleasant to listen to very therapeutic.Staff upon our bedraggled arduous stressful train journey from Edinburgh to Perth (where we were sardine packed 3 carriages standing room only, then good bus service from Perth to The old Cross Inn) felt like a breathe of fresh air to see them as if they brushed away our stresses of the travel. We were shown to our large room which included a settee and kettle with tea and coffee(which we so needed) twin beds were comfy. The room was very warm we slept with the window open (weather was quite warm) both nights. Our bathroom was very spacious too with a shower over the bath easy to work.We had our meals there as well our breakfast was really good I had Porridge and a semi full breakfast...which did me all day my sister in-law had full breakfast and toast we had tea and coffee it filled us so much we didn't eat again till tea time and our evening meal was lovely. My sister in-law Wilma had the scampi and I had the Caledonian Chicken both were lovely and filling and fresh the following night we both opted for the salads they were both great. Night time entertainment was a live band Wallace brilliant although we were worse for wear as enjoyed a few drinks rather too many but great company from other guests and the staff were tip top 100% attentive we liked the Raspberry Sambucca bit too much and I ended worse for wear the following morning. There are beautiful walks some are quite a few hours long but we didn't do them sadly but the next time I think I will return with my husband and children. Thank you to Scott, Kelly and the rest of the staff we will be back and we have told our family and friends thank you all so much.

Firstly I would like to state that the lady who was working on the evening we were there who had only been in the job a week or so was fantastic, couldn't do enough for us, very nice atmosphere in the pub, allowed us to bring our border terriers in with us which is always a bonus. Food was what you would expect, decent hearty pub grub, Between us we had scampi, fish and a burger,

From the time we walked through the door till the time we left Kelly & Scott were friendly and very helpful. We will thoroughly enjoyed our meal. 2 of us having lentil soup. Very tasty and full of flavour. I myself had the breaded mushrooms with garlic mayo. The mushrooms were huge so an A+. Main meal, 1 chicken pie which was nice and pastry on top was huge. Big helpings Aswell. Steak and ale pie was to die for. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth I had new tarried with mine and all I can say is mmmmm. Macaroni was cheesy and plenty of sauce with homemade garlic bread. After all that we couldn't face a dessert..... but my son did which was the choc fudge cake. That lasted 5 seconds. Kelly and Scott always about making sure we were well looked afterOverall I recommend for a meal. Will be back xx

Warm welcome here, spacious room with well modernised shower room. Clean, freeview TV and tray with kettle etc. Room was at the rear so no Road noise noticed. Took evening meal in the bar, really good food, had very tender, tasty steak and ale pie and the haggis cairn was super. Proper full cooked breakfast - again, well cooked good food. One niggle - I love tea being served in a traditional crockery tea pot but please, please pre-heat it so you don't quickly end up with tepid tea. Whether you drop in for a meal or stay over,, you'll like this Inn. Might be worth booking your meal at the weekends - not surprisingly it gets busy.

Having eaten here on several occasions and really enjoyed it in the past we thought we'd have our evening meal here last month. As we entered the first thing we noticed was the change in décor. Some of the tables have been removed and this has been replaced with leather couches and a very large television which we though added to the ambience. I ordered the haggis, neeps and tatties starter and my partner the pate and we waited in anticipation 25 mins later our starter appeared. The haggis had been microwaved and was hard on the bottom the neeps and tatties dried out. The pate had come straight from the fridge was not smooth and spreadable as it should be was instead dry and crumbly the bannocks that came with the pate were soggy. I had ordered the mac cheese and chips and my partner the steak as our main courses. After our starter plates had been moved away we waited a total of 1 hour 10 mins on our main course being served and had made the decision to leave and were in the process of paying for the starter before we left when the plates appeared. No apology was offered. We agreed to stay but now wish we hadn't while the steak was ok the mac cheese was far from it. This again had been reheated in the microwave and the cheese melted so badly that the whole dish was swimming in oil the pasta was overcooked the chips burnt the whole dish inedible, a pity cause it was good I don't know whats changed but one things for sure we wont go back

We come here often as a family and on this particular occasion they were doing a STEAK DEAL-2 H BONE STEAKS AND A DRINK FOR £25 we had them come out medium rare and let me tell you....it MELTED In my mouth the perfect amount of juices came out of the steak. The chef himself came out to make sure our meal was up to his usual perfect standards which I could not fault at all. We had room for dessert my father had a special meringue Sundae and I had a homemade vanilla cheesecake(which I know it's home made because I get him to make it on the odd occasion for our family gatherings) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU COME TO THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE especially under the new management Kelly and Scott(who is both owner/head chef)

We have been patrons of The Old Cross Inn many a year and have championed this little known culinary gem to friends and have supported it with many reviews on here. It had the reputation of really outstanding homemade food, fresh locally sourced ingredients, and HUGE portions. It was consistently well above average. I always mused why it was so quiet, as it offered great value for money.Having had a tough week, we decided to head down there this evening and where surprised to see that it has changed hands. We welcomed the new owners and wished them well and we also told them of it's previous solid reputation. We ordered what we would normally order. My son ordered Fish and Chips and was pleased and satisfied with the portion and taste. tick no1. I ordered Spinach Pasta with Chicken and my partner Chicken Caledonia. Dishes we must have enjoyed 20+ times before.Well! let me tell you, a change of owners doesn't always prove to be a positive move. On opening night, with few guests eating so early on you would expect a certain level of attention to quality to be apparent, but sadly it was a MAJOR let down. One which I have taken quite personally, as I liked the place so much, but know from just this one visit, that I will NEVER be back.As you can see from the photos, the small plate of pasta which had little flavour or seasoning was accompanied with garlic bread that tasted off. I don't know if it was a rancidness in the butter or a stodgy milkiness from the bread, but it was unpleasent. The pasta tasted no better than a Bachelor's dry pasta pack and the only enjoyment it brought me was that I had no need to add milk, butter and heat. What makes it worse is that previously it would have been a huge plate of pasta, fresh spinage in a cheesy, satisfyingly gooey sauce, that clung and dripped from the pasta and the chicken would not have been small clips for chuck hidden in the dish, but a huge chargrilled breast that crowned the dish. My partner was equally dissapointed by the soggy, stodgie mess that he was presented with. The chicken, whilst cooked was also not, as previous, char grilled, so was soft and limp. The dish had no aesthetic value at all. The potatoes had little form of their own and smoothered in the sauce that gave them the consistency of baby food. We have NEVER left food previously, but did on this occassion. To be fair, we were asked if everything was ok and we did say yes, but I responded out of shock and not wanting to ruin the new owners first day, although this review may do.so.I am sorry for this review, but yet again in Blairgowrie, someone has bought a great established business in the town and ruined it, by delivering well below parr on the basics.

We were a large family group of 15, We contacted the restaurant in advance because of our large number and they were extremely accommodating. We had the restaurant side all to ourselves and they laid it out in such a way that we could remain in our group. The service was outstanding!!! The staff were friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing and the portion sizes extremely generous. Even though we were a large group and they had a busy bar serving meals also, the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. We cannot wait to return on our next visit to Blairgowrie. Thank you very much

My wife and I visited this restaurant two nights ago, it was excellent! The lady who runs it is friendly, welcoming and helpful. The decor is nice but the food is outstanding in terms of good, honest pub food of a high quality at the right price. We had the May special offer that consists of two courses for £11 and let me tell you, it's good value. We had deep fried brie for starters and then steak pie for main course, all for £11. Both courses were lovely but the steak pie was amazing. Go to this pub/restaurant, it deserves to be packed out every night. When we come back to Blairgowrie, we've loved it during this holiday so I'm sure we will, then we'll definitely come back to this restaurant.

We were advised to go to The Old Cross when we found out most of the good restaurants in Blairgowrie are closed on a Monday. Lucky us because we had a sumptuous meal. In May there is a special offer of two courses for £10 - and ours comprised stacked haggis followed by steak pie. Big quantities and excellent quality.Possibly one of the best pub meals we have had for a very long time.

We are sad to be leaving Scotland after a lovely relaxing holiday. We decided to go for one more meal before heading back home and the Old Cross Inn was the choice. Having been before we knew what the place was like, welcoming, warm with a side order of real good food. We ordered a main and a dessert and ended up sharing bits of our meals with each other as it was just so good! The lady that served us was very friendly and accommodating to what we wanted, nothing was too much trouble. We have not been here since the new owners took over 2 years ago, but we have found that the new team are just as hospitable and the food is to die for! Thank you for your hospitality, we will be back for sure!

Visited here as part of a small stag group. Had food at the Inn before heading out to the main town. The food was really enjoyable, nice big portions at a very reasonable price. During our meal some live music started, a solo live singer singing covers and some of his own material. He was enjoyable and very friendly, as were all the staff. I'd highly recommend this place for a good meal.
