Booked this hotel without looking at reviews. Upon arrival, looking at the building was an instant regret. It was only a night. How bad could it be? I went to the reception to be greeted by nobody for about 5 mins. The hotel felt dark damp and eerie as I never came across any other visitors. A man came from downstairs but was not very welcoming. I eventually found my room, going down a dark corridor. The room smelt really bad there were holes in the walls, and the bathroom was tiny. The toilet had poo still up the back of the pan, gross! The bed was very small and uncomfortable. I am 6ft an my legs hanging of the end. Due to the smell and the cleanliness a miss. I had yo check out and book into another hotel.

Hmmmm, was a bit worried after reading a couple of very recent reviews. They were pretty much damning so it was with some trepidation and the decision to check out if it was as described. I have to say, I can really see where the previous reviews came from. Yes it’s old, the room was small and restaurant was closed. In saying this, the room was clean, the water hot and the area quiet. Only negatives on the room were the lamp didn’t work and main light was dim. An odd occurrence was the TV turning on itself twice in the middle of the night! The remote was with the TV and nowhere near us so not sure what the go is there. The bathroom was clean although small. WiFi was a bit sketchy but adequate. There is a carpark off street at the side of the hotel and it is a short walk to the main area. Someone was there to check us in but no-one on checkout so we just left the key. For the price, this property is fine for a couple of nights.

This was a stay over. On entering the building it was dark, dank, musty with no life or that welcoming greet you would expect. the reception looked more like a shop counter in a warehouse. The room i was given you could not swing the proverbial cat in it. the sink up against a wall and fighting with the door behind. the shower was grimy and cold no hot water. the lights were small and gloomy. the TV was more like a desk computer screen of about 12". the tea/coffee cup was a paper one. the bed not the best. food know idea wasn't going to attempt it, first sight of this place turned me off. a very tired property, with no charm at all. My advice......AVOID

I booked this hotel via Agoda and paid online. When I arrived the owner asked for payment. When I questioned this, he said only my bank details had been taken online, but payment had not been taken. I handed over my card and was charged for 2 nights. Only when I got my bank statement later, did i see that I had been charged twice, once by Agoda and once by the Old Coach House Hotel. Despite contacting the hotel by email and tel. and being asked to text the details of the overpayment to a mobile number, since then I have had no reply and my request for a refund of the overpayment has been ignored. Agoda say they are unable to make contact with the owner to sort it out. Be careful if you stay in this hotel that you do not get charged twice.

This hotel is very poor, noisy and not as advertised. No cooked breakfast was available. The only breakfast was purported to be a continental breakfast but was really poor quality. I was woken every night by doors slamming, loud voices and lots of other noise. The plumbing was noisy as well. The owner tried to get us to leave a day early as he wanted to allocate the room to someone else! I do NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

Well I went with an open mind, I had my wedding reception here in 2012, so thought nostalgic and went with hubby and parents for a meal, I heard it was under new management however, the menu was a poor choice and when asked for the highland chicken I think it was, well there was none, my father wanted a savoury omelet, there was no meats in it what so ever, a lot of raw vegetables which were quite raw, he could not eat it in the end, so I swapped and gave him my fish, I took the omelet but I could not eat it either, hubby had a Maryland chicken dish, which was weird, it had a deep fried pineapple and a deep fried banana with his bit of chicken which was also very dry, my mother had chicken salad the plate was seriously humungous, so silly it would have been better if it were on a normal dinner plate, and being a traditional salad, never seen a salad like that before and won’t again, we never seen a salad like it, the chicken was very dry, so basically we won’t be eating there again ever! As for dessert we couldn’t get out fast enough to get home for a descent cup of tea, sorry but putting masses of food on a horrendously sized dish plate just makes all the off putting, it’s not the overly quantity of the dish, focus on the quality thats what they should focus on,. Therefore, a very big let down, felt sorry for the waiter boy, it was not his fault but when asked ‘how was your food’, I have never been lost for words, I just said ‘that’s an experience, I wish I did not have and definitely won’t again’ very disappointed and a waste of money, and was not offered a discount for my dads omelet, that was definitely not savoury with raw vegetables.

Booked tonight hoping for a Sunday roast or something similar but when we ordered we were told it was all finished second choice was also all finished. What was left was mostly fried. Had fish and chips but to be honest it was one of the poorest meals I have ever had Frozen chips and a haddock that had provably been fried many times. Would have had a better fish supper at the local chip shop for half the price. Very disappointed 😔

When we first arrived there were 2 young staff members who did not speak and awkwardly walked away from us. We then stood at the bar waiting to be spoken to, a older member of staff finally appeared from the public bar to serve us. Once seated everything seemed to go smoothly, we got our drinks and then ordered our food. The atmosphere was not the greatest, very quite and all the customers seemed to be whispering like they were to scared to make a noise. More customers came into the hotel and got served straight away which then began to really annoy me, they got seated and then was given 2 lots of menus which then I thought we were not given this second menu. I the went up to the bar to realise they had a specials menu and then when I read it I realised that myself and my partner would of ordered off of this menu. I asked a member of staff but it was too late to change our minds as 'we should of asked for it' was the response I got. After this I sat back at my table and was not happy in the slightest. Not one member of staff smiled, either did they speak to customers or each other and by this point I just wanted to leave. Our food came but as I expected by this point it was very disappointing. My partners chicken was extremely over cooked (cooked in the morning and then microwaved for when ordered) and his statement was 'the chips was the best part of the meal'. My meal was meant to be crispy chicken but there was nothing crispy about it, extremely over cooked, rice was a mushy ball on my plate and there was very hot sauce all over my salad which then made it disgusting. I used to work in this hotel many years ago and it is not the same as it used to be. This food was definitely pre-cooked or frozen as this was not freshly cooked as everyone can tell the difference not just chefs. The atmosphere and food is not worth going to this place for. I have gave this hotel many chances over the years but last night was the last time I will go. Not wasting any more money on a restaurant where the staff are not nice, not trained, clearly don't care and where the chef as clearly given up. The owners have also clearly given up. What a disappointment.

My husband and I went to the Old Coach House for Sunday lunch. The staff although very nice were quite young and didn't seem to know the menu. They didn't tell us that the starters were in a separate room so as we didn't know we didn't have any. The carvery had a poor selection of veg. Sweet corn and peas were mixed together and would have been much better served separately. Carrots were ok cauliflower covered in cheese no broccoli or green veg. Roast potatoes were a bit aneamic but the meat and gravy were good. We found the desserts by accident on the way to the loo. My husband had pear and ginger sponge which was delicious. We probably wouldn't go again

On the positive side offered half portions for adults, meal itself was lovely. However the cost of 2 soft drinks was ludicrous, in this day and age should be encouraging people not to drink and drive. One pint blackurrant and lemonade and half pint fresh orange and lemonade over £12. If I return I would ask for water but would be afraid this would also be expensive. Roast potatoes a bit over cooked.

Party of six people for lunch on a Friday. It was busy. This is an old school hotel and the food is very good. The portion sizes are huge and about 50% cheaper than places with a bigger reputation. For example, I had a prawn salad that was £8.95. I couldn't finish it. I had the same dish at a hotel on Elgin that cost £13.95. I have visited the OCH four times now and can say that you should have more than one course only if you are very hungry.

Portions were generous and overall a really good value. Parsnip soup was soup of the day. Rich, creamy and tasty. Steak and mushroom pie was very good-shredded meat and mushrooms in a rich brown sauce between sheets of puff pastry. Battered haddock was light and flakey. Fish and chips was pollack so a bit darker and stronger than the haddock. Good food, fair prices and service.

Then the family from hell came in with their 2 boys, who couldn't sit. They were running up and down, being loud and were never told off by their mother or grandmother. This spoilt the atmosphere. A table with two old women left quickly and as we left, they were sitting in another part of the hotel where it was quiet. The staff were obvious aware that some of the customers were affected by the noise. Overall good food but spoilt by others, who wouldn't discipline their children.

I've eaten here on various occasions, as a couple, with friends and also with family. Always have a good meal. Portion sizes are generous and the restaurant and bar area are very comfortable. In winter with a log fire burning.

I visited here on mothers day. It was a carvary and also a set menu with starters. Our table was packed into a corner so everyone on my side had to get up to let me out just ridiculous spacing. The fish soup was quite nice but it was the carvary ceg that was shocking this clearly was not freshly cooked it looked like all aunt bessies frozen food, the carrots were cold and gravy also.I did complain about the heat of the food but the waitress just seemed unsure what to do.Unsure what the pudding was meant to be but had bits of meringue in it.I wont be revisiting here again.

Not a very welcoming entrance way, but friendly staff soon showed us through to the lounge and dining room. A bit like stepping back in time, but spotlessly clean with a very nice menu. Service was good - although it was quiet - staff very helpful, food very nice and price reasonable. So don't be put off by appearances and give it a try.

We were greeted by a surly young girl whose face would probably have fallen off if she'd smiled and who didn't understand her own menu! However, when the food came it was ok. Nothing special but reasonable in quality and good in quantity. And the lad who cleared the empty dishes away was far more cheery and welcoming than the girl who had taken our orders. Prices ok too - but why, in a Scottish pub, was the only bitter beer available John Smiths???

My partner & i hadn't ate here for a few years & i remembered why. We went here yesterday for a meal & it was awful! We both ordered the 'tattie skins with bbq sauce' & it wasnt homemade at all!! It was potato wedges with melted cheese & bbq sauce! Which i could of made at home... Then i ordered the chicken fillets and my partner ordered the gammon with egg & chips. My fillets was alright nothing special, like i said i could of made at home. Whereas my partners meal was disgusting. The gammon didn't look or smell like gammon, it smelt off! It had black pieces inside of it when u cut into it. I actually think it was something else. Some of the homemade chips were hard. The dining area was freezing. The waitresses were friendly, the manager seemed to have a bit of attitude. Overall this experience wasn't good, 100% wont be going here again. I will also be telling friends & family not to waste money going here.

Forget it - this is our second visit - albeit one year apart. First one - food was great. This time, I couldnt even muster a one out of ten ! Potatoes were so hard I could've put a window out with them. Turkey with skirlie could be likened to a plate of vomit. Vegetables - all frozen. Main meal of medallions of fillet steak - were actually thin slices of roast beef covered in a tomato and onion mix, with peppercorn sauce atop ?!?! Weren't asked if everything was ok - and manager was an arrogant waste of time when we mentioned it at the end.

Was told hit food takes 20 mins. After 35 mins asked where our food was. It was delivered a couple of mins later. My cheeseburger was burnt and inedible. To be fair, after complaining they offered to cook something else, which I declined. I was given a full refund on the price of the cheeseburger.

Saturday 2nd of November, they decided to shut the restaurant, no head up or anything. Just no meals, only refreshments. Fast forward two weeks. After a 4 hour drive on the Friday, I arrived at 7.05pm. Reception said restaurant were serving until 8.30 and I was OK just to pop over and get a table. So I done that. No tables for the rest of the night. Only the tables near the bar were being used. Rest of the place was empty. Saturday seemed to go without a hitch. Sunday morning, apparently the chef pulled a sickie so there was no hot food other than what you could put through the toaster! The big lad that's in the restaurant is brand new as are some of the other FOH staff but this place need to sort the BOH staff out pronto. Also just a little tip for the servers, from someone who was in hospitality for 18 years, when someone walks in the door and stands waiting to be attended to, give them an acknowledgement. Don't just leave them standing like a spare tw4t.
