My hubby and I went to sample the new menu, we were not disappointed Hubby had game faggots - what a feast as a starter Mains I had the venison sausages, accompanied by mash kale & a delicious Rich blackberry gravy ‘ ‘stunning’ Hubby had the Game cassoulet - plentiful and tasty with fresh baked bread We were so full could not possibly have room for a pud this time The game and venison is locally sourced from a great supplier The Fat Pheasant Ecton The meal was cooked to perfection by Michelle and beautifully presented - well Done , will defo go back and try the rest on the menu

Spotted the curry night on their facebook page, gave them a call and I was booked in. The pub is set just outside of Northampton in a quiet village and is well out of the way attracting quite a local crowd together with people in the know of how good a place it is. The curry didn't disappoint. Whilst service was a bit slow, they acknowledged the fact, so I'd assume that it was an exception. All in all a great experience - the food was good and very well priced.

We arrived at this quaint looking little pub and had to wait for a while before anyone noticed us, that is apart from the chef who almost bumped into us on her way out. It was early, so only 2 or 3 tables were occupied. We’ve been here many times but sadly we’ve found it a little hit n miss for a while now. Sadly, we were a little disappointed with the food once again. I had scampi which was lovely to be fair, so too was the chunky tartar sauce. The scampi didn’t taste as if it was ‘the frozen stuff’ that you get at the supermarket which pubs often seem to serve, it was more succulent and the pieces were larger, however I found the ‘hand cut’ chips too overcooked for my liking once again, although the taste was quite nice. Also I would liked to have been asked if I wanted chunky chips or fries as ‘hand cut’ chips didn’t describe the size. I prefer skinny chips! The pea shoot salad had very little or no dressing. In fact the pea-shoots were very ‘stalky’ with next to no leaves. The green pea purée was tasteless and non de script. When eating out, I always hope the food is as good as/better than I can cook at home. Otherwise, why would I want to pay the money? Tonight, it wasn’t I’m sorry to say. I much prefer to leave a glowing review when deserved. My husband ordered a burger which he described as ‘just ok’. His skinny chips were nice but the whole meal was small! He has a small appetite but even he wasn’t full after this meal. Our friends would leave hungry, if they’d been there, I believe. My husband ordered a ‘flat white’ coffee after his food, as I’m a slow eater and was still eating, when he’d finished. However the flat white was basically a black coffee with froth! As for the music, rather than ‘easy listening’ type of music which might suit a more wider ‘audience’, we had The Wombats, The Kooks, The Killers and other similar, unsuitable music. Not the sort of relaxing atmosphere we were hoping for. So we decided to skip dessert! I do have to say that the owner works hard and is always rushing around serving and is helpful. It’s just that for us, the food wasn’t quite up to our expectations and I feel that some of the prices are a little on the steep side ie fillet steak £37, Gammon, egg and pineapple £24 Tarragon chicken £26 Smoked haddock £29 While the burger and pub Classics at £14 and the pizzas, at £14/£16 were more reasonably priced. So although I would like to give this old English pub a higher mark, I’m afraid on this occasion it’s gonna have to be a three at best!!!

We celebrated a birthday at The Old Cherry Tree, and 6 of us had a fantastic meal on a Thursday evening. The thought and detail in each dish was superb. We all went for something with a game twist, and enjoyed wood pigeon and venison, all sourced locally. The Old Cherry Tree team are clearly passionate about where their food is sourced from and how it is prepared, and this could not be more evident in how it is presented. We could not fault it. The pub is tucked away, but every effort should be made to find this absolute gem! A brilliant pub and an attentive team. A must visit for all!

When we complained to the waiter about the quality of food and service on the night, nothing happened and the manageress did not even appear to ask us what the problemS had beenSo, all the Old Cherry Tree have achieved this evening is to upset a group of us, and none of us will ever return. I have recently visited The Old Cherry Tree for the 3rd time in 3 months. The first time was under quite sad circumstances and having explained the situation to Linda (the owner), she found us the most perfect table, tucked away in a corner and was so friendly and accommodating, we could not have asked for more. The lunch of soup and a sandwich was delicious and exactly what we needed on a cold winters day. We returned again more recently for a lunch for my Mums birthday and Linda recognised us immediately and welcomed us in, gave us the same table as before and was funny, jovial and gave excellent service. On Sunday last week, we decided to nip there for Sunday lunch. Again, the welcome was fabulous and Linda found us a lovely table near the fire and we had a great lunch. I read in a previous review, that more gravy would have been good, and I agree, but excluding that, the food (again) and the welcome was fabulous. Will not hesitate to make a habit of visiting this beautiful old 'proper' pub. Thanks again Linda, for looking out for us so well.

Lovely meal with a friend. Plenty of choice and food cooked perfectly. Will be eating in the bar area next time which I think will be better as the restaurant was fairly empty due to cancellations. Would recommend .

First time here and opted for the beef sunday roast for 11.95. Nice fresh ingredients and tasty beef. Could of been bigger portions and more gravy, we left still feeling hungry.

Large selection of real ales, ciders and fruit wines. Folk night on a Thursday, book and literary clubs. Gaming groups and excellent people. 👌

I was staying at the local Premier Inn, but fancied a beer elsewhere. The nearest was the Crown then Sun. There were a few dodgy reviews about the Crown but thought I would still have a look in as it was the first I came to. The locals were all playing skittles (a new experience for me being a northerner), had a go too. Made to feel very welcome by all. Young lady behind the bar was lovely (the teacher). The landlady hasn't been well, but came down stairs at the end of the night and she was very nice too. Judge people as you find them... Never made it to the Sun

I’ve had a fantastic time at the Christmas wreath making workshop at the Yeoman. We’ve enjoyed delicious Christmas cocktails and lots of giggles!
