Have a lovely stay here with friends, booked a triple room. The room was spacious and very comfortable, we booked an evening meal here and the owner was very helpful with the Thai menu as I'm unable to eat spicy food and her recommendation was delicious ( pad Thai noodles with chicken). Lovely breakfast and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again 👍

My partner and I stayed on a Saturday night in double room. We arrived too early for check-in, but they were so kind and allowed us to park our van in the car park while we went and looked round town. We stayed in room 216 and it was a lovely quiet clean room. We ate in the pub in the evening and the food was freshly cooked and piping hot. All the staff were chatty and seemed happy there. If you had any questions they were happy to talk to you unlike other places we have stayed at where you feel like you are wasting their time. We would highly recommend this place and would happily stay again

Stayed here for one night while visiting Longleat Safari Park, We had 2 rooms, both rooms where ok, double room was nicer than the twin room but both comfortable, for the price we paid I think that breakfast should be included. Breakfast was nice but as its cooked to order it took ages and if you had to be somewhere like us it put us behind, not a hugh selection from the continental etiher. This is also a dog friendly pub which for me is not good as I don't like animals to be in areas where there is food served. Staff were very welcoming

I stayed at The Old Bell on Sunday 21 July. I have a number of questions/suggestions/observations that I wish to make. To start with a positive, the staff who I came into contact with were always polite and helpful. I found the room to be clean and the bed comfortable. Unfortunately there were issues that would prevent me from making a return visit or from recommending The Old Bell to friends or family. 1. I had driven from Leicestershire that day and checked in at 15.10. I was presented with a room key (Room102) and instructions on how to access my room. It would have been helpful if I had been taken there and I'm sure that you will understand that although I have a reasonable sense of direction it is a building that requires skilful navigation. I took several wrong turns! 2. I decided to have the Wiltshire ham sandwich on white bread for a late meal. The Tiger bread was fine but sliced extremely thickly. Chainsaw used? The ham was barely evident though. The less said about the quality of the coleslaw the better. This was not a good value meal in my opinion. 3.At 22.30 I became aware of an irritating vibration coming from the wall in the corner of the room (behind a wardrobe). I think that this was coming from outside. I was not inclined to get dressed again and when I telephoned the number on their web page (no room 'phone) to report this, I was redirected to a BT answering system. I reported the issue using the message recorder and tried to sleep. This noise went on throughout the night which was very distressing. 3. I eventually managed to get to sleep but was woken abruptly at 05.40 by the sound of the fire alarm. When I reached the courtyard I was met by a group of residents and one member of staff who shrugged his shoulders and said that it was nothing to be worried about. I worried! 4. Without any more sleep I decided to shower. That was a positive. Everything worked. I was further alarmed (excuse the pun) when I found that the kettle in the room was only tenuously connected to a double socket. This was a health and safety hazard. 5. When I went for breakfast I mentioned all of these issues to Kevin (?) who was sympathetic to my loss of sleep and concerned about the socket. He could not make any sense of the noise that kept me awake but as he was on his own wasn't able or willing to accompany me to the room (too far away for a quick inspection). 6. Breakfast was of a reasonable quality but the reviews some people have given don't come close to reaching my expectations. One plate is not good when you also have to manage toast, butter and preserves. The handling of the latter items was not good practice I'm afraid. In summary, the staff tried to make my stay comfortable but they seem to be battling against the odds. I don't usually leave negative reviews in the internet but prefer to make suggestions for improvement directly. This review was sent to The Old Bell manager two days after my stay but no response was forthcoming. This visit cost over £130. Poor value in my opinion.

Stayed for a couple of nights. The team at the bar were welcoming and our room was great. Food here was amazing, giant full English breakfasts, our fish and chips were some of the best ‘ve ever had (that batter is SO light!), and the Thai curry stunning.

We make an effort to come to this pub regularly since it has reopened and are keen to support any local businesses. Unfortunately one member of staff who we believe may be the owners wife makes you feel uncomfortable as soon as you walk in. She followed us as soon as we came in repeatedly asking if we would eat or not. This happened last time we came too. She sat us at a table with our baby by an open door in December despite lots of other free tables. On moving to a table by the fire as we were cold she complained to us and told us that customers are selfish taking warmer tables if they won't eat and if they only drag out one drink for hours. Of course we understand that the good spots want to ideally be for those staying longer, but we were ordering food and in fact spent over 80 pounds which in some ways we regretted as we were made to feel so unwelcome. The pub was also not very busy at all so it seemed odd to leave these tables empty. Other tables were also talking about her manner during our time there. Its really unfortunate as the rest of the staff are lovely and the food is wonderful but it was quite an uncomfortable interaction we have had twice now and with other customers saying the same thing I thought it was worth mentioning so it can be considered as we really want the best for this business and hope the feedback can be received well.

Wasn't told this place was "cashless" until arriving!! An annoying trend, and one I hope doesn't become more common. TV in room didn't turn on, no remote control, -2 degrees outside and they have windows open and heating on full-blast. Cobwebs in corners of rooms. When you book a room with breakfast included it's around about £100, but I'd changed my plans and cancelled the breakfast when I got there, and the room was £80. £20 for breakfast is insanely expensive. No focus on customer experience at all, took 45 minutes to book a taxi and 20 minutes after getting to my destination, I was called by two taxi companies saying they were waiting for me outside of the hotel.

I asked a question about the heat rating on one meal, he was really helpful and his wife, who also manages the kitchen came out to explain and see what I wanted. They were happy to adapt the meal for me to suit my taste. The food was amazing, most definitely would go there again, quality food cooked fresh and made quickly. Booked in advance expecting Friday evening would be busy, it wasn't, one other table occupied. The room was cold. Shown to our table and after about 10 minutes asked if we wanted drinks also given the menus, another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive and our orders taken. There was a bit of a wait for the orders to arrive but not too long as all meals are freshly cooked. Two of the party put their jackets on because it was uncomfortably chilly. The food was good although one of the party would have preferred a grilled steak which the website said was available but seemingly only in the pub bar. The atmosphere of the restaurant was like the temperature of the room, cold. After the meal the bill was requested and behold a 10% service charge! Certainly not justified. Decided to have a drink in the bar before leaving sadly also almost empty and when a glass of port was requested, this and choices were not stocked. I would recommend this venue to no one and certainly will not be returning and the service charge just added insult to an awful experience!

We went to The Old Bell for a pub lunch and had seen they do a good gluten free selection on their menu. I wanted to order a salad and chips (both were noted as GF) and after ordering, the waitress said ‘I’ll be good and tell you that the fryer we use might not be gluten free’, to which I asked whether that meant there may be cross contamination or if the fryer was shared with gluten-containing products. She said the fryer is shared and laughed it off by saying ‘I guess I don’t want you having a tummy ache later and wondering what it could have been’. Firstly, this annoyed me because the chips are not ‘GF’ as noted on the menu. Most places will at least put an * with a note at the bottom of the page to state the fryer isn’t gluten free (so we don’t get our hopes up as I had foolishly done). Secondly, the ‘fish and chips’ is ‘GF’ and, had I been hungrier, I would have been over the moon to find a pub that does GF fish and chips. However the above still stands (the fryer isn’t GF), so I wouldn’t have been able to have it anyways. Finally, and possibly most of all, I was so infuriated by the attitude of the waitress. The way she said she ‘felt it right’ to tell me ?? No ? You MUST be telling coeliacs if there is a GUARANTEE of cross contamination. We take a huge risk already when eating out, so for you to not think it is your responsibility to pass this information on is reckless and completely irresponsible. Not to mention the fact that I felt so minimalised and patronised by the waitress. She hadn’t asked if I was an allergy or intolerance, so she wouldn’t know whether this would be a mere ‘tummy ache’ (which it wouldn’t be at all). The repercussions of me eating from that fryer would have been horrible for me and for your staff to be minimalising it to a ‘tummy ache’ is insulting? Please educate your staff on how scary it can be to eat out as a coeliac, as you are quite literally putting your life and wellbeing in their hands. Don’t patronise us about it either: we know how annoying it is (trust me, it’s more annoying for us). I can’t say I’ll be returning and I will most certainly not be telling my gluten free friends to come.

Usually a jolly Waddy’s pub in which to have lunch a decent pint of beer but on our last visit we were completely ignored! I stood patiently at the bar to give my order - the two members of staff seemed to be struggling with what was not that a busy service. When it finally looked like I was about to be served, the bar-woman took the order of a crowd of folk who had just turned up. I tried politely to attract her attention but was quite simply shunned. I then said to my other half to put her coat back on & we’d leave. I wasn’t going to bother to make a fuss but my partner insisted on saying something, which she did to the man (who could have been the manager?); he was completely uninterested. I should add that I had been standing right by the till at the bar for between 10-15 minutes. I real shame as I’ve always enjoyed visiting the Bell. There loss as we then went and had a very nice lunch in the Mason’s Arms up the road.

My mother & I had not intended to have lunch here but because of a delay with the buses, it was a convenient place near the bus-stop. It was just past 3pm when we asked the barmaid if food was still being offered. Mum made two choices both of which were not available - one of which was fishcakes. We didn't have time to go somewhere else as we only had an hour before the next bus home. So we gave our order to Stan. At about 3.45pm our food arrived - mum had fish n chips when she thought she ordered ham, egg & chips! We didn't complain because my meal was incorrect as well - I specifically asked if the chicken for Caesar salad was chopped or not & when he said it was, I was happy to have that. However when I got it, there was only an egg & NO chicken/bacon in it. So credit to the young barmaid Kia (?) who was very friendly, she went to get some for me, which was actually quite tasty. But as time was limited & mum didn't particularly enjoy her meal we decided to leave without actually completing our meals. I have to say that Stan should have listened & taken our order correctly. Appreciated Kia & Stacey for being such lovely people. However mum who lives near the area said she would not be coming back. I live much further away so it is highly unlikely I will be back. It is not a place either of us would recommend. PS: the place could really do with a refurbishment as it is dull & lacking in warmth & character.

Unfortunately had the experience of coming to this establishment for lunch with my partner and mother in law. It was that cold inside the pub that we had to leave our coat’s on. I would have thought in the season that we were currently in, that they would have lit the fireplace to have some kind of heating. My mother in law visited the toilets, on her return she was saying how dirty the stairs were to get to the toilets. I’d hate to think how clean the toilets were if she said they needed to get a cleaner for the stairs! We ordered our meals and I was pleasantly surprised how gluten friendly they were. However after having to wait for over 1 hour, my partner enquired about our meals. The barman was so rude, particularly the second time round that I was astounded. Apparently it was not his fault the meals were taking that long. I have never been to an establishment where the staff show such disregard for their customers. At one point I caught a barman on the their mobile phone! To the manager/owner, I would suggest you spend some time training your staff so they do care about the customer. This way you might have returning customers! I know this is a place that we will not be returning to again and would advise anyone to stay well clear of it!

A one night stay in the family room overlooking the high street. We really enjoyed our stay in this really old coaching inn. It is truly atmospheric with crazily undulating floors and big thick wooden beams in the ceilings. The corridors are labarinthine leading you maze like around the rooms on various floors. Our room was large and spacious, with nice comfy beds and usual hospitality table. The staff were very helpful and it was actually a shame to be staying for just one night. Oh, the inclusive English breakfast was excellent with much local produced components. Doesn't expect a modern hotel, but it is very friendly and apparently no longer haunted!

Platos principales

The Old Bell is virtually opposite The Bath Arms in the centre of Warminster. As I recollect it, The Bath Arms used to serve 'the carriage trade', but reading recent reviews it seems to have gone downhill. In the meantime The Old Bell has managed to capture a blend of its earlier clientele as well as those wanting to eat.The historic building has been opened out at ground level, but without losing character (which is always the risk when doing this kind of work). With Wadworth's on tap one is guaranteed good beer. Four of us met here for a discussion over lunch, which came fairly quickly and although my beef stew could have been slightly warmer it was tasty. I was surprised to see a comment about the food being expensive; compared with many of the places in which I eat I thought it cheap. The young lady working the bar almost single-handedly (because of a function in another room) was highly effective. I would certainly stop here again if passing through Warminster.

The staff made us welcome from the moment we stepped in the door. The new menu was good and they always have a specials board with some interesting recipies. My husband choose the Oriental spiced cod with mussels and thai green curry noodles and it was one of the tastiest meals he has ever had. They do smaller plates for lighter appitites which I selected as we had eaten starters. It wasn't too small so great value. The staff remained attentive throughout the service. They were a credit to the management. As we had such a pleasant experience we decided to visit again for a Sunday roast with a group of six adults. I have a dairy intolerance and was served a meal with butter, slaw and mayonnaise after I had told them about my intolerance. The meal was taken away and I was served a Ham baguette with most of the meat inside being just fat and I found spread in the roll. The mustard turned out to be mayonnaise with mustard seeds in it. My family member asked for Fish and chips yet she was served Fish with French fries. I ended leaving the cafe completely disgusted and will never return.

My family and I (two adults and a child) recently visited Whatley Manor for afternoon tea 09/10/23. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations, prompting this review. Despite booking a regular afternoon tea, we were charged £43.50 instead of the confirmed £37.50, citing a festive surcharge. Disappointingly, there were absolutely no noticeable festive elements to justify this added cost. Upon arrival, we were seated at a stark white, unadorned table, devoid of any seasonal decorations or even water glasses. The music being played just after we arrived wasn’t festive either. Our initial drinks and food were served promptly but for £140 (the entire amount of food in the attached photo), the value was awful. It consisted of three stale items, the Battenberg slice if you’re interested, accompanied by minimal service (no follow up on food and additional drinks and we had to go and find staff to ask to pay the bill) and a complete absence of the promised festive ambiance which after all was what the surcharge was for. Overall, this was an expensive and unsatisfactory afternoon tea experience. We have since had the festive surcharge refunded which we appreciate but I wouldn’t go back again or recommend the afternoon tea as an experience I’m afraid.
