The Old Bakery in South Hams

We visited during our stay in the countryside just outside of Kingsbridge. We came on a whim but they managed to accommodate us despite it being a busy evening. We loved the ambience of the place and all the dishes we sampled, if we’re ever back down here we will definitely return.

Wonderful evening. We were very well looked after and the food was sublime. Highly recommend this cosy and welcoming restaurant.

Just been to the Old Bakery and had a lovely meal. The menu is tapas style and each portion is good so very easy to share. We had olives to nibble on then had souvlaki, sticky chicken, Lebanese cauliflower, potatas brava and humus with pitta bread. All delicious! The place is very well decorated with a nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly.

Really lovely food with a great selection of gluten free items including a good understanding if how to keep a place coeliac friendly.

Dinner with family at The Old Bakery on Thursday evening. Small intimate and friendly restaurant which is independently owned and managed - serving Mediterranean small plates. We were advised to have about 3 plates per person which was plenty, highlights were the spiced cauliflower and cabbage dishes, as well as the sticky chicken and crab croquettes. Staff were friendly, service good, and the restaurant owner took us through the menu and advised us on some good wine to compliment the meal. All in all very pleasant and we look forward to our return when we are next in Kingsbridge.

Booked The Old Bakery restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday night when on holiday in Devon with family. The restaurant is hard to find as there is a small gate visible on the road which leads on to the restaurant. We parked in a carpark 2 minutes walk away which was easy to park for dinner at 7.30pm. It is not clear on the menu that it is a tapas menu. We were told it is tapas when we sat down to choose from the menu. Also the board outside the restaurant advertises the food as “Mediterranean and Middleseastern food including Persian food” but there was no Persian food on the menu at all and we asked the waitress about this and she had no idea. So basically the menu consists of tapas foods including Mexican, Spanish, Turkish and Italian foods. The menu definitely lacks rice dishes to go with some of the meat dishes. 2-3 dishes per person is more than enough. I liked the chicken skewers on a bed of yoghurt and onions. The food was fine but would have been much better if there was some sort of rice to have with the meat instead of just potatoes. The dips with pita bread were nice. Nice olives. Nice Bread. Drinks were ok. Desserts were ok - we tried the chocolate brownie, ice cream, sorbet and affogato. Sadly the affogato did not come with amaretto liquor and no amaretti crumbs on it which is what i always have in other restaurants but it was still ok. We were not able to eat the green salad as it had soil in it so needed to be washed properly so we left it. The service was very slow for both food and drinks. It is a very small restaurant. The wooden chairs are not very comfortable. There is one male and one female toilet as it’s a small place.

We ate here on the first night of our holiday and so glad we did. We ate early (6.45pm) and it filled up quite quickly after 7pm. The range of tapas options was great, with different food styles and flavours from around the world. We ordered 6 dishes, no bread, with the intention of having dessert, but we were too full. Never mind what we had was delicious! The wine by the glass was also very good. £80 total, including tip.

Always a great place for dinner, when we are here on holidays. The daily specials are lovely, order the crab croquettes if they are available.

Lovely meal at Old Bakery! We love coming here for tapas. Loved the prawns, sticky chicken and patatas bravas. The lamb kofta we found slightly dry but the flavours were very good!

We enjoyed a wonderful evening with friends at The Old Bakery last night. The friendly welcome and atmosphere greet you into a really lovely restaurant. Our food choices were delicious; mushroom croquettes, Lebanese cauliflower, falafels, potato bravas and frekah salad were beautifully cooked and plentiful. Brilliant choice for vegetarians, although our friends were impressed with the very tasty meat options and enjoyed the chicken slouvaki very much. We will definitely be returning and would thoroughly recommend this little gem in Kingsbridge.

Yet another fantastic meal here last night. The food is always fantastic and the service friendly and welcoming. For my partner and I, it’s our favourite local restaurant; every visit the food and service is always consistently top notch!

The Old Bakery is an outstanding tapas restaurant. We were warmly greeted, shown to our table and it was explained that usually three small plates each were sufficient - we ordered seven between the two of us. We started with the plumpest boqueronies I have seen in the UK, followed by dishes of prawns, cauliflower with pomegranate, baked feta, superb lamb kebab and the most perfect spider crab croquettas. The outstanding dish though was char grilled cabbage with minted yoghurt - superb. We had Spanish tiramisu and ice cream with PX sultanas. With coffee and a fine Murcian red the bill was just over £100 - excellent value

We booked a Christmas meal as a group of 9 girlfriends, it had been a long time since my last visit so couldn’t wait to try the food. This little restaurant is superb! The tapas dishes are beautifully cooked and the service is excellent. It was a tad chilly and the lighting not quite right as a bit too bright but apart from that we couldn’t fault it. Very much looking forward to a return visit.

We read the menu outside but did not realise all the courses ,priced at £8 to 10 ,were in fact tapas. When seated we were given the information that the courses were tapas and advised to order three each! The meal was therefore more expensive than we anticipated and the tapas dishes are small so we thought about getting a Chinese take away later to fill up!

Can’t believe we have only just found this place tucked away in kingsbridge. Gorgeous old building with tons of charm and character. Lovely friendly staff.The menu is huge the kitchen is tiny.It was hard to decide on dishes as all of them on the menu described ,sounded delicious . We had a mix of seafood, meat, veg sharing plates and were not disappointed, all cooked and tasted amazing.great wine list, and attentive staff. Tapas style menu, we chose 6 dishes between us as recommended by the excellent waiter (well done young man your service was exemplary). Good portion sizes, food was delicious as was the French Rose we chose to accompany it. As locals we’re very fortunate to have this quite unique restaurant in our town and highly recommend it.

The food is very tasty and the variety of food on the menu will suit everyone. Tapas style so you need to order 3 to 4 plates but it is filling and all really nicely presented. The service was excellent and would definitely visit again if we are in Kingsbridge

A little gem in the heart of kingsbridge. We come here every time we are visiting for our holiday and it is always spot on. Fantastic dishes and drinks to choose from, and a lovely cosy atmosphere. Staff are always wonderful and we just love the food here. Highly recommend to anyone who loves tapas style food.

I'll make it easy for you. Food heavenly, staff terrific. Just do it. Even I left a tip, if you knew me you would know that is unusual!

This is a fantastic restaurant for family and friends who love tapas / meze and are happy to have lots of very lovely plates to share. We had 10 plus bread between 4 of us and this was plenty. The menu is great and the specials board adds those extras. We were able to introduce a friend of our sons to a few ingredients he hadn't had before.

Loved it. It was all good but the star was the cauliflower which was superb.

Back to the Old Bakery for the first time in a while. Great cooking - specials were interesting and I'd detect I think more vegetarian options? The spiced cauliflower and the charred cabbage specials were great as were the spider crab croquettes. Croquettes can be a real challenge to get right - and these were perfect. Tried a bottle of English wine for a change too from a South Hams estate. For the quality of the cooking prices are good.

What a wonderful find. A charming tapas restaurant tucked away through a cute courtyard. Lots of quaint areas to eat inside and outside. Tapas were all lovely and generous portions. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We were on holiday for a week and went twice to this restaurant because we enjoyed it so much. The food was to die for and we’d go back to the town just to visit this restaurant again. Dog friendly too!

This was the best dinner of our holiday. Had 12 dishes between 4 and absolutely stuffed ourselves. 10 or 11 would have been enough but can’t think what we would have left out! Staff friendly and helpful and lovely decor!

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Had a lovely night with a friend a couple of nights ago, had lovely food and great service. They were busy and had a nice humm to the restaurant. We unfortunately were sat next to a couple that decided to cause unnecessary trouble to the young waitress when there was no need. Both myself and my friend work in the industry and her complaint was not needed as it was not factual. So we made sure the waitresses an manager knew it was amazing when we left. If you don’t have any nice to say, just don’t say it! Waitress were young guy very well trained! I would highly recommend coming here!

The food was delicious when it arrived. Hats off to the chef. The waitress recommended 3 dishes per person, we had 2 each and were full. She also said we couldn’t order a few dishes, then have a break, we had to order all at once. When we paid the bill the owner was dismissive/rude, didn’t thank us for our custom and seemed to query the tip. But the food was good so I guess you can’t always get everything right …

Four stars because of the Austin powers - type music all throughout, but everything else was fantastic!

Good experience, food was very good and we were looked after with a free bottle if wine after a misunderstanding ref our dog. Could do more with the front of restaurant where we were sat, bit messy. Overall we were looked after and food is pretty decent.

When on holiday in the area, we've eaten at this restaurant (in its various guises and under various owners) approx 20 times and have always had a very good meal. This was our first visit since 2019 and it was really excellent/as good as any we have ever had. We ordered 18 different sharing plates and every single one was excellent. The price is fair for the quality of the food. It's a real family favourite. (Adding a couple of dairy free dessert options would be a welcome addition, if I had to identify one 'wrinkle'.)

My sister and I went to dinner at the Old Bakery last night and it was brilliant. I'm a vegetarian and she isn't, but we got plenty of little bits to share and it was all delicious. I don't think the prices were bad. The service was good and it was really pretty inside, we would definitely go again! I particularly enjoyed the bean and beetroot salad.

My first time at The Old Bakery. Lovely atmosphere and tables not packed in. This is a tapas type style of eating with dishes varying between £7 and £9.50 per dish. Servings were quite generous so budget for two dishes per person. I chose calamari and Persian spiced lamb chops. We shared the patatas braves between the four of us. The menu catered well for veggies, pescatorians and meat eaters. Wine list was very good and we went for an Argentinian Malbec. The total bill for four including wine was £111.50 excluding service. If wheelchair access is required, booking for the downstairs area is necessary. Toilets for disabled on the ground floor. Loos very clean. Cutlery sparkling.Really impressed.

We visited for an early evening meal, our first visit to the Old Bakery. The staff were very helpful with advice, the service was very quick and the food was excellent. I even got a doggie bag for the leftovers.
