A fantastic find - highly recommend to anyone exploring this spectacular, history rich and very well worth visiting village! A beautiful old thatched bakery set in a stunning - and very fruitful apple orchard - serving absolutely delicious and very reasonable food. We had the Mackerel pate, the feta beetroot salad and the Mushroom soup all of which were delicious. The scones were huge and cakes fab too. We’d highly recommend the NT Branscombe trail - a very scenic 1.5hr stroll which conveniently starts and ends at the bakery and goes past a historic forge, mill, church, woods and takes in the stunning coast path by Branscombe Mouth. Thank you to all involved.

This is a pretty, quirky old tearoom with outside tables with a lovely view in the village of Branscome near the Old Forge. There's a car park at the forge and toilets in a separate block to the cafe down a path. I say toilets, but there is actually just one toilet and strangely one shower. Both were very clean. I had the mackerel pate which came with 2 pieces of soughdough, 2 pieces of brown toast, a generous portion of butter, a couple of pickled mini cucumbers and some salad leaves. Extremely tasty. There were a range of different cakes available, but sadly no oat milk for tea and coffee. It's quite unusual these days for a cafe not to offer oat milk so be aware of you are a non-dairy person.

This is a gem and so lovely it is open during the winter. The cakes look surperb. My tagine and mini cottage loaf were wonderful, the spicing was just right and the portion was generous. It’s difficult to know where to start as so that is excellent about this historic old thatched cottage. Apart from the amazing cottage itself with its thatch, stone floor where many hundreds of folk have walked and baked before, the whole atmosphere has been made so welcoming. The fleeces and cushions on the benches for your comfort and warmth, the many interesting old artefacts carefully placed around with pictures from the past for you to while away the time while you wait for your wonderful home made meal or just coffee with a fantastic selection of homemade cakes. I chose their sausage roll with chutney and apple, the best I have ever had. Everyone who works there will give you warm and friendly welcome with nothing too much trouble, we even had a glass of wine with our meal, definitely not to be missed.

After walking to look at the Old Forge which was fascinating to see, we were looking forward to a cream tea at the Old Bakery. We had our little dog with us so opted to sit outside in the garden. But each table had a little stone placed on it with the words No Smoking. We could have understood this attitude if the tables had been close together but they were all quite far apart. So as my husband likes to smoke a cigar I'm afraid we didn't stay and so missed out on our cream tea which I'm sure must have been lovely judging by the nice comments other people have posted.

We visited on a sunny late August lunchtime and sat in the garden. It is a while since we last visited and they seem to have downgraded the menu. We had 2 x homemade soups with bread and 2 x cheese scones and chutney which were both very good. The lunch choice is somewhat limited though compared to what used to be available (for example, sandwiches/ploughmans). We were still hungry so had cakes afterwards, we all had a drink, either tea or a soft drink. Service was fairly good but we thought the food was quite pricey (it is N.T. though so to be expected)!

Food was delicious. I actually said this was the nicest sausage roll I've ever eaten. I just wanted something light as it was getting rather late in the day. The salad was divine with some unusual additions such as agretti and goose foot. Very pretty leaves and nice subtle flavours. The staff were lovely. Altogether I had a lovely time. Nothing was too much trouble and the lovely waitress wrote down the names of the salad ingredients for me. Such lovely people. Made our day actually. Oh and a quick & efficient service. Real thought has been given to the very comfortable wooden tables and seats, which are close enough to chat to other visitors, which we very much enjoyed doing - but far enough apart for us to be able to stop our puppy making a nuisance of herself! We had plenty of time to wait for the bus back to Sidmouth, so we dropped by. The building looked like it was having restorative work done but that didn't detract from the wonderful atmosphere and decor inside. The staff were helpful and nice - we were shown the menu and the cakes available. Luckily they had a vegan option (lemon drizzle with blueberry). It was washed down with zingy meadowsweet sparkling cordial which was very refreshing on a hot day. My partner had lemon and poppy cake washed down with sparkling mint and lemonade also very nice too. The outside area was well laid out with plenty of tables. Although our table was next to the shelves of herb plants, somehow our chairs were a bit difficult to manoeuvre probably due to the pebbles/stones used as flooring decoration. However it was beautiful outside as it was inside.

We had originally headed to Sidmouth for the day but hadn't realised the folk festival was on and it was too busy so we drove away. Past a sign for Branscombe and decided to visit knowing nothing about it. Saw a sign for the bakery and decided we'd give it a try as we were all a little peckish. Wow! What a wonderful find! We were stunned by the surroundings and were tempted to sit out, but staff warned us about the large number of wasps in the gardens this year and offered us seating in the upstairs seating area which we accepted. The indoor seating was perfectly adequate and it was interesting seeing all the information posted around the tea room about the history of the building. Three of us ordered afternoon tea complete with cream and jam and we were not disappointed. The scones were freshly made and were served warm. They were served with very generous servings of jam and cream. One of our party ordered a sandwich instead and this was well presented and went down well. A lovely little find for us and we very much enjoyed our visit.

Have been visiting the bakery for almost twenty years almost every year (sometimes twice a year). It has ALWAYS been something we made sure we didn't miss every year on our visit to Lyme Regis. Went today and was so dissapointed. The new menu is printed on a scratty peice of paper covered in plastic, the menus has shrunk dramatically and the sandwiches are very limited. I used to love the prawn or egg mayonnaise sandwiches with a massive salad which were a meal in themselves. The personal touch has gone as you had to go inside and order your food and bring it outside to your table. My husband and I decided to have a cream tea as there was not the sandwiches we would usually have chosen. The cream teas were delicious and the tea was good, however the clotted cream came on a plastic container and not the usual little glass dish they used to do. The staff were still very pleasant and friendly but it was just not the same!!! The personal touches and the beautiful sandwich and ploughmans lunches were the reason we went back year after year. Please revise your menu and take some advice from the previous owners.

I always used to come at least once a year here with family and friends, so was very disappointed when it closed.Same decor, garden, set-up etc as before, but we were a little disappointed at the smaller menu.Previously they had served amazing sandwiches - including our favourites of Tuna mayo, and Egg - neither of which they now offer. The 3 sandwiches they did do were Cheese & Pickle, Chicken mayo, or ham & mustard. We didn't have any, but another table did and they didn't look as big or as good as previously. We tried the toasted tea cakes which came out nice and hot, and a cream tea which was also very good. The selection of fresh cakes on offer inside did look amazing, so I think if you come for afternoon tea (cakes / scones etc) then it is great, but less choice for lunches than previously.

Foe twenty five years we enjoyed visiting the old bakery. The quirky old furniture, the upstairs room with family games , the wonderful doorstep sandwiches , the nice LARGE teapots.....all swept away. Instead we now have a laminated menu that shows little imagination or interest in food. The cakes are described as 'handmade' ie not homemade. So the delicious smell of freshly baked cake wafting from the kitchen is but a distant memory. Very sad experience. The setting cannot be beaten but don't go along here and expect food which is anything other than mediocre .

We had walked from Branscombe beach up to the village. The Old Bakery is at the upper end of the village opposite a working forge and the village hall. It's a thatched building with a small garden with tables and chairs.Inside, you'll find remnants of the former bakery including a huge mixer.Friendly service and nice cakes.

I have always made a point of going to this tea room, even driving for miles when working in Exeter. Their sandwiches were lovely, but by far, their Ploughman's was the best I've had! 3 different local chutneys, fresh spring onions, radish, local cheese, freshly baked bread...you get the picture. I always looked forward to lunch here. New owners have not destroyed it, but equally, they have not added anything other than a card machine for paying. The Ploughman's has been trimmed, gone are the spring onions, radish and the Devon fire chutney! Even the bread was two small standard Tesco soft rolls. Change is not always for the best, sometimes new owners need to talk to existing staff and customers and find out why we keep returning! Simplicity can be success! Bye bye bakery!

We were staying locally in Pitt Farm and had been out for a very cold, windy and wet walk across the coastal path. We were longing for a hot drink and something to eat. We were delighted to find The Old Bakery open, we think the only place in the village that was open. Even both the pubs were shut on a grotty friday afternoon. We had warming soup and teas and coffees. Even the dogs were welcome. Thank you for being open, you kept us sane.

What a beautiful and breathtaking spot as we descended down into the valley to the village of Branscombe. We were lucky to find the last available outdoor table at this lovely stone cottage, called The Old Bakery.. Coming from America, I soon realized on this WINDY, cold, but sunny day, how extremely hardy the British people are as they sat in shorts and wearing sandals as I sat with teeth chattering gulping down hot English tea and scones. The crab sandwiches are quite good here and so is afternoon tea. Highly recommended.

We stopped by at the Old Bakery after a lovely walk along the cliffs from Branscombe to Beer & back. The walk is worth the effort once you get up to the top of the cliffs. Don't be tempted by the lower cliff walk. Just as hard work but the views not so goodAnyway back to the Old Bakery. We were met with a smile on arrival even though it was almost closing time for them. We ordered a cream tea and a slice of Victoria Sandwich between 2. Service was prompt and friendly. The cream tea was delicious, fresh warm scones with delicious jam and clotted cream. The Victoria Sandwich was also fantastic, melted in the mouth. Nice cosy atmosphere downstairs, people had a dog on the next table who we befriended. We love dogs so not bothered by this but others may be? All in all a great end to our day. Would highly recommend

Our annual birthday lunch trip was so sad as the lovely quaint old bakery which we so look forward to visiting had been renovated and it's whole ambience ripped out. No table service, no old furniture, hardly any old bakeware. Just bland tacky flatpacked mismatched cheap tables and chairs, awful heaters and glossy emulsion not at all in keeping with the National Trust. Food was ok but pricey for the portion size. Regrettably I doubt we'll ever go back again, which makes us very sad indeed.

We stopped for morning coffee and had it not been for our large lunch nearby would have returned for afternoon tea as the cakes looked delicious. We loved the fact that it had retained the original features and old bread oven of The Old Bakery.

After such poor service and food at the sea shanty it was a real pleasure to encounter such a warm friendly service. Cakes were all lovely too and a great pot of tea!

Lunch stop and was not disappointed. Good hearty sandwiches and ploughmans with an excellent selection of cakes. Cafe is not licensed but they have a good selection of soft drinks to keep everyone happy. Parking can a problem as it is limited close to the cafe but there is parking at Branscombe Beach and a then a relatively flat walk to the the cafe, just enough to work up an appetite.

We have been visiting this lovely little tea room for several years. Apparently it has recently changed hands but it still has the same easy going atmosphere and good quality food. The sandwiches are very tasty and the soup delicious. The setting just adds to it!

Lovely cakes, later found out these were bought in from a local bakery, with big portions and a lovely lemon cake. Polite and Friendly service but seems to be under new management and they're still getting the hang off everything. Would certainly visit again as was also quite reasonable

Visited on the third day of opening over Easter and so taking that into account...the service was friendly and fast. The food was good and the cake was excellent. If you're looking for a spot to have a cake and a cuppa in Branscombe I'd recommend the Old Bakery. It was a bit sparse on the decor front, however I understand that the old collection of bakery items and photos will soon be back on display, which will definitely improve that!

Having visited here for the last 24 years I can barely express the disappointment I felt on my visit today. A visit to the bakery has always been the highlight of our holidays and we have recommended it to all our visiting family and friends but I can see today being my last visit. The staff were very unwelcoming to say the least, in fact I would say rude. The tables outside had not been cleared and despite it not being due to close for a further 90 mins we were told they had stopped serving food. We were able to have cakes and they were lovely. It is incredible that a place that was once so welcoming can be so cold. I can't see anybody wanting to return if they have the same treatment as we had!

Never been here before, but won't be making a return visit. Asked if it was possible to have a couple of take-away sandwiches because my grandson had fallen asleep in the car and couldn't be left. They reluctantly agreed after a long wait and a lot of fuss. They were grossly overpriced and nothing special.Later we went in and bought three bottles of water. We asked the sullen lady behind the counter if we could have a paper bag to put them in. No, she said! This despite the fact there was a pile of paper bags directly behind her.Not a pleasant place. Expensive for what it is. We won't be revisiting..

We have been visiting this place for 10 years, and today will be our last. We arrived over an hour and half before closing to be told they were not serving and food but cake! I have to admit the cake was good. The service was none existent and the waitress was quite rude. This used to be a wonderful place to visit, with friendly staff and delicious food. They had a visitors book which went back many years and people from all over the world said how lovely it was. I cannot imagine anyone rushing back.We have recommend the bakery to lots of friends and will not hesitate to tell them not to bother returning.Extremely disappointed.

I have responded to the experience questions despite a non visit. My message is based on the fact I was ultimately unable to enjoy the products from my online order, as I appear to be excluded from delivery listings due to the fact I live on a Scottish Island. Whilst understanding of the potential costs involved, perhaps the company could at least offer the option to the customer to cover such...something I would be only happy to oblige with....regardless of the amount David Wilkie Isle of Cumbrae Scotland 07488941692

We had to try the new Sunday lunch menu and we were not disappointed. Roast beef served with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cheesy leeks and a proper Yorkshire - not one of those rock hard crispy things restaurants often serve. Followed up with the best freshly cooked Blueberry Bakewell and cream. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much
