The Wings that they make such a fuss about are AWFUL. What a waste of money. Sucked in by the hype on the menu and feel conned. Luckily had the truffle burger too, which was delicious. Service was fast and nice. 3.5 stars overall

Been here many many times, but sadly a few weeks ago I had a disappointing experience, I even emailed in to discuss but no response sadly so here we are. I noticed my bill was higher than normal so checked it, to find a children's meal was added which we did not order we ordered him an adult main for us to share ontop of our main. When coming around to ask if we need condiments I asked for bbq sauce, which was brought over and no mention of extra cost (which would of been fine if mentioned bare in mind bbq sauce is the same price as tomato and mayo now). The food was definitely a lower standard than usual and a pint of Diet Coke I forget now but was £5 or £6 which is criminal when the syrup is turned down massively. After many good meals here I emailed in to give a chance but clearly no one can be bothered to get back to loyal customers so we just simply won't go again.

Very unique! Their sweet chilli chicken wings are a must! Absolutely delicious! The team is super friendly and the manager is always very attentive 🤗 100% recommend!

We had saved this pub as a summer place because dogs aren’t allowed inside. However, the lovely door staff managed to convince us that the outside area is lovely, comfortable and most importantly warm. We decided to give it a go and we are so glad we did. This is an outside space that has been well thought out and executed. Very comfortable seating with heaters to keep you warm and a lovely atmosphere. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed every bite. Will definitely visit again.

Booked a table for 5 for a Mother’s Day Sunday. Was rather hoping that my wife and I could order a Sunday roast but was disappointed to learn that that was not on the menu and only available at Christmas. I found the menu quite limited so opted for Burger and fries not really a Sunday meal or alternatively Pizza! The staff were friendly and accommodating. For a special occasion such as Mother’s Day it would have been nice to have a traditional Sunday menu.

I recently visited as after second change , for rubbish service a few years ago . Hasn’t change , uninterested staff . 10/10 for the most uninterested bar staff . Told her we had book a table told us to talk to people over there and called off . Stood around a till waiting to be aknowlged , then abruptly shown to table and menus dropped in front of us …. Rude !!!! Will not use again !!!!

I have been here before with my family during wonderful summer weather! and this place has the most wonderful beer garden rain or shine, as it has a retractable roof with heating when British weather dictates! This time two days as a lone business man!! Wonderful welcome by Bella my waitress for the night! The whole menu looks wonderful, but I became addicted to the fajitas chicken and chorizo highly recommended! You will need to book as the venue tends to fill up quickly for good reason

Brilliant busy pub with quirky but great menu. Very helpful staff.

Family meal… kids meals arrived and were finished 15 minutes before the adult meals arrived. Kids pizza was good. Corn on the cob side was burnt, chicken wings were dry and over cooked , gunpowder chicken was burnt and just tasted burnt. Lamb burger over cooked and filled with thousand island, not mentioned on menu.

This place used to be great. My family of 5 would visit twice a week for the wings & pizza. They recently did a renovation in January & the food is not the same. The Wing sauce was different tonight and that was the last straw for us to keep “trying” it out. The staff is new and they aren’t the similar friendly faces that remember us each time. It’s like the old saying goes, -if it’s not broken, don’t fix it! …so sad because this was our favorite place!

What happened? Had wings tonight, of course. I'd say at least 6 had broken bones. The chips used to be very good hand cut skin on fries. Now taste frozen. Don't know if they are. Service was average. Looks like all prices have gone up. Fajitas are 21 quid and I don't know why. I heard they had renovated the place. I couldn't see where. This place was once the best in town. Not anymore. Go to the Reindeer. Oh, and no coleslaw on the menu.

I booked a table to celebrate my birthday yesterday. Got there around 8:15 pm , got seated and was struck with the frase please order your food cause we close at nine . Even before iwas offered a drink . Then , we order drink and food that came quick before 8:30 and again waiter says please order your meals within the next 5 minutes as i felt they were pushing us out the door Garlic bread was hard as a freesbie, not good for a nepolitan pizza and the wings was dry , lack buffalo sauce . Very disappointed.

Unfriendly and unhappy bartenders

On NYE, my friend and I decided to check out The Old Auctioneer, a restaurant I had heard great things about. I was immediately impressed by the service. Despite the busyness of the restaurant, the friendly and swift service was exceptional. Being in the catering industry myself, I was very impressed. For starters, my friend went for the dough balls, which were well received. The flavors were amazing and. I chose the Atlantic Prawns, while a few more prawns may have been nice, it was still a hit. For our main course, we chose to indulge in the Pepperoni and Spianata Piccante pizza, which was absolutely delicious and filled both of us up straight away, but we were given scissors as pizza cutters, which was a little bit on the awkward side. Also, the base wasn’t as sturdy as I would’ve liked, but that was resolved with a knife and fork. The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and inviting. The staff were friendly and attentive. On the whole, we were both very impressed and will definitely be back.

Staff were just plain dumb. They got the order wrong for 1 meal and completely ignored a specific and reiterated request for 2 of the same meal. Then we were told we were liars And got a 3 pound discount on our 85 pound meal. Absolutely ridiculous and won't be going back ever.

Bad value. Especially the vegetarian options. By a couple halloumi burgers here...or a year's supply of halloumi at Tesco for the same price 🤣

Friday 15th December * Just in from a lovely evening at The Auctioneer. I have just had the best fillet steak you could imagine. I ordered it rare, and it was perfect. It was a melt in your mouth sreak, absolutely perfect and so flavoursome. Thank you so much.

Foods become really expensive and quality not as great as before. The wings used to be really good here, but now they're become dry and really tiny in size.

Absolutely amazing, made me and the lads from work feel extremely welcome. Food was divine and service was brilliant! Definitely will come back again soon

The food is ok, nothing to get excited about but you won’t leave Hungary as the portions are very large. Prices are reasonable, service good and atmosphere is superb. Always seems busy even at the beginning of the week. Why not go for the kilo of chicken wings 😄

I have been your customer for many years. Unfortunately, for some time now the service and food served have not been of good quality. I am very disappointed because I liked this place very much. recently I was served beer in an unrinsed glass with soap suds. I asked for a beer in a clean glass and at the end they asked me to pay for both beers and charged a high service charge. Of course, I didn't pay only because I pointed out to the waiter that he billed me incorrectly. I don't know why the quality of service and food has dropped so much - I'm very disappointed. I hope the owner of the place will do something about it. I was poisoned by beer with suds and I felt very bad. Today, when I was out for dinner with my family, we were served dry, hard chicken - it tasted as if it had been reheated from the previous day. you used to be my favorite restaurant but it has already changed - do something about it…

We visited on a Sunday afternoon. 3 Adults. 1 toddler and 1 baby. We sat outside, we really liked the decor and atmosphere. Can imagine the place really comes to life at night. Staff were attentive and friendly. We were sadly asked if we were ready to order very quickly and very often. We had at least three different servers ask us to order in the space of 2-4mins. It's hard to settle the kids and read the menu that quickly. We loved the chicken wings but must have a good moan. The sides/starters were extremely disappointing. Specifically, the Dirty Fries from the menu, they came to us cold. Some of the cheese hadn't even begun to melt, and some was melted about 10 minutes before we were served. The fries were not luke warm, they were cold, it was really annoying, especially considering the dish they were held in was red hot to touch. Additionally, the Halloumi Fries were bland, and the 'Homemade Sauce' was so obviously watered down sauce from their 'Sweet and Sticky' wings we felt like we were being made fools of. We did complain and the server even admitted the sauce that is served with the Halloumi Fries was 'more liquid than sauce' but the kids were so hungry we couldn't wait for a replacement, and because we ate them, we couldn't justify asking for a discount. The wings are clearly being used by the kitchen as a crutch by which the sides lean on to prevent upsetting people. If we return, we will be sure to avoid the sides. That said, beautiful building and great wings. Update: We returned in October 23, avoided the sides and ordered the Gunpower Chicken and Wings. Amazingly good, enjoyed every bite. Gunpowder chicken is WELL worth the price.

Went here today with my assistant manager after having a horrendous experience elsewhere in town and it was a breath of fresh air. Service was great food was great and not a massive long wait. Would definitely recommend this place

It was my first visit to the Old Auctioneer. We had been told that the food was excellent and we were not disappointed. I had the sirloin steak which was tender and cooked to my liking. The service was friendly, timely and helpful. Will definitely eat here again when next in Banbury.

These guys have nailed it. The food is consistently good and the service is always friendly and quick. It’s reasonably priced and we enjoy their 2-4-1 wings night on Sundays.

The food was divine!! So delicious, fresh authentic. We are so lucky to have been recommended this place, don't think we would have ever tried it, and now I guarantee we will be back!

The food is very well made, the chicken is juicy and tender. But it is lacking something in the flavour. But it is better than at most places...

Popped in to meet a friend, from the initial welcome by the door staff (didn't get her name) to all staff meat during our visit we felt welcomed, will definitely be back.

Overpriced and food was only okay….no roast dinner on a Sunday which I thought was a bit odd!

Food was warm and the menu has shrunk. No ribs which is what we went for and prawns were cremated. Service was good but that all I can say was above par. Was a year or so since the last visit and will say will never willingly go again.

What has happened to your famous chicken wings? You must have changed supplier? Hardly any chicken on these they’re soo tiny, just skin and bones! Several times now I’ve had them like this? I don’t know why you’d skimp on these as this is what you’re famous for? Very disappointing and I won’t be ordering these again.

On entering the door we saw an old/ modern/ trendy decoration to the tables and chairs, lights and great artwork. Juan who is one of the managers was so lovely with great customer service and friendly nature. I thought the place belonged to him ah well maybe one day 😉

Decided on the off-chance...and very pleased with the decision. Very friendly welcome, drinks served quickly and plenty of time to choose meals. Only drawback the gunpowder chicken was said to be breast meat but actually thigh. Changed to Chicken snitzel causer salad , very nice. Fajitas and sweet sticky wings to die for. Would recommend to all.

A little gem in the heart of Banbury. Had not visited before,and was not disappointed.Great atmosphere, tasty food, gf options at good prices,and very pleasant staff. Definitely recommend.

Has abandoned being a pub, and only gives lip service to the bar. Setup as a restaurant, a pity, as it used to be a mix of both. That said the beer served was pretty good.

Excellent quality "elevated" fast food. Friendly, efficient service. Lots of nooks and crannies in the pub to explore. Piped music was unnecessary, however

I do love coming here the wings and pizzas are amazing and the fat santa burger is pretty decent too( tad pricy but I'd say worth it). Only let down is they don't offer any sort off vegetables on the kids menus like carrot peas or broccoli. We did ask but you don't. We had a 10 month old and 5 year old who would of lnhailed some but mostly the 10 month old as there wasn't anything we could give her other than a few chips:) please think about that but still we will return.

Average food, miso salmon had no miso at all and was overcooked. Seasonal veg included cauliflower which isn't in season. Pizza was good tho.

My brother, sister in law and I always come here as a default- it’s so good! I can’t move away from the house burger as it’s outstanding but there’s so much on offer and I could eat most of it. My brother loves the infamous wings and he keeps coming back from for more. Service is excellent and atmosphere lively but not too much so. Door staff pleasant as well. On a side note these guys did a delivery service during the pandemic and it was one treat that kept me going during the lockdowns. Well done team

Lovely oldy worldy pub. Lovely food and z nice vibe. Definitely worth another trip to try so e other food and worth driving from Coventry just to try the food.

We visited on Saturday 5th August. My daughter left her coat, and we didn't realise until we had got home to Cardiff. The manager Rebecca couldn't have helped more, she went out of her way to package the coat up and posted it back to us. We are super grateful. We will be back! Ps the pub is lush, food is amazing too

A great find with friends. We met up with friends who were staying on a canal boat. We ordered a few starters, all of which were great and then main courses. Staff were all great and very helpful, especially when my husband had sudden bad indigestion and they came to the rescue with some rennie. Nothing to do with the food, just him forgetting that he can’t mix drinks and eat spicy food. We would definitely return when in area again.

Been a while since going here and it was superb had the famous Wings the sauce probably the hottest I've had but still great had the fillet steak medium rare and was excellent.

The best wings I've had anywhere

One of our favourite places to eat, not tonight! Wings were decent as always. Pizzas came out and were completely inedible. Greasy floppy heap of slop. Pick up a slice and say bye bye to the toppings! I wouldn’t review if it wasn’t dealt with properly. I asked for the bill, the waiter asked “was everything ok for you?” Looking at two full plates of pizza. I said no the pizza was absolutely shocking. He disappeared for a bit, came back with the card machine and said “was everything ok for you” I said no mate the pizza was absolutely terrible. He promptly charged me for all the food and a 12.5% service charge, is 10% not enough OA!! 😂 Ah well better luck next time!!

Had the dough balls with garlic butter and the chicken schnitzel, bacon & cheddar burger, with truffle mayo as add on. Service was excellent, efficient, and very fast! Food was amazingly tasty! Recommended hands down!

Great food and fair pricing, quick efficient service. The only negatives for us personally were people smoking outside next to our table with our children and the very wonky table legs.

Good experience spoiled by a service charge automatically added to the bill. This isn't the US. If staff aren't getting paid enough, the management should raise wages or reduce profits. My companion was especially irked. She'll never go there with me again. And I'll think twice.

OK, so this a completely unjust 1* but let me explain... I visited on Monday 5th June 2023. This place is nice and big inside and well styled. The food is really good and the prices are reasonable. Not expensive but not too cheap. Its fair. The portions are also very good. The staff were also really nice. I teased the small blonde waitress about her green hawain shirt and she was really nice and funny and a great laugh. A really pleasant girl. The girl on the bar was also really lovely with the London accent. It didn't feel like good customer service, it just felt like they were really nice genuine people and good customer service was the end result. However... The Eastern European girl with the pink shirt on tonight was the single most rudest person I've ever met on service in my entire life. Let me put this into context, I'm 34 years old and I travel up and down the country for work regularly, I've had my fair share of poor service let me tell you over the years but she was by far the worst. If I lived in Banbury, it wouldn't matter how nice your food was, service, your prices or even how many nice staff you have. I would NOT return to your establishment because of her. One bad apple really does spoil it all. She was rude, disdainful and very, very unpleasant. Why employ someone like that? Why even work in customer service if you have ZERO customer or people skills. Let me tell you, when you employ someone like that who looks and speaks to customers like she does, she WILL cost you money because people will simply not return. I asked the security guard for her name as i left as I was going to make a formal complaint but he didn't know it unfortunatley. So yes 1*... as I left feeling really disappointed and actually angry at the way she spoke to me. A very unpleasant individual. A shame as she totally spoils your venue. To the rest if the staff, i apologise, you were all great.

Good all rounder - decent food, good service, nice decor, fair price. Nothing outstanding but if you'd like a good, filling lunch then this is your place.

A really enjoyable experience. A first visit as a couple. The staff were very friendly & helpful. We shared a Bbq Chicken pizza, fries & a bowl of sticky wings & everything was fantastic & tasty. I had a pint of Tiny Rebels Clwb Tropica...

I walked into today was greeted by Litterally the most amazing hosts I’ve had outside of my home country of Northern Ireland, Spritely smiley and passionate staff Sarah and Rachel made me one of the best pints of Guinness ive had in a long time. with an incredible amount of care and attention to my food interests as a foody, after a lengthy chat about where to eat I was firmly confirmed on where to go, the menus are incredibly interesting and insanely fine tuned to tell you exactly how, why and where your food is coming from, the history and how and why they do it. One of, if not THE the best pubs in England (to call it a pub is an absolute shame and slander on what I’ve received today) but above all and beyond all is these girls and what they are about and how they deliver, an absolute CREDIT to the company and themselves, Mr manager sir please listen up, you won’t find finer folk easily. Treat them well, you’ve gold at your fingertips here with these girls. 10000000/10 I will travel back here now weekly for this place, unrivalled. These people are the face of your company, and what a face they’ve given. Amazing place and people. Do not miss this gem!

Excellent food. Good sized portions, even for the appetisers and the kids menu. Highly recommend if you like spicy and flavourful food.

This time around we went for the wings and the sweet and sticky wings were great. The red wine, we chose was very average sadly.
