The Ol' West Grill & Diner in Woking

Unfortunately I had to return here, I've already had a terrible experience here last year. This time a friend booked it as a surprise and I couldn't back out. Unfortunately it's still as awful as my last review. I honestly don't know where the good reviews come from - as twice I've been and it's been the same each time.. The food was tasteless and cold. Drinks were flat. Service was slow with no smile. I can't believe this place stays open or learns from it's feedback..

Drab, dull, dirty, grubby, lifeless and depressing! Not often you can describe one place with so many adjectives. The food was well below parr, considering it's the easiest style of food you can cook they royally screwed it up. Give it a miss and find a Smith & Weston

We visited this restaurant before seeing a show at the theatre. The whole experience was very disappointing. Half the menu wasn't available. The only alcohol they had was wine or beer. When our food was delivered the waitress came over with the card machine wanting payment, I thought this was a joke. We were advised it was company policy to pay before you eat! When I asked why we were not told before we ordered we were told they forgot! I have eaten all over the world and never been asked to pay before I've eaten in a restaurant! The food was mediocre at best. We were not offered dessert or further drinks. The restaurant was half empty but more than a dozen people were turned away at the door. Shan't be going there again.

We waited well over a hour for over an hour for three burgers,. They weren’t letting people into the restaurant who hadn’t booked and more than half of the tables were empty yet over 12 people were turned away. I think the chef was cooking one meal at a time! When the burger came, it was dry and overcooked. Chicken burger was slightly better. The only good thing was the lovely waitress who was very kind and friendly.

Booked a table for three for 50th birthday drive 40 minutes and found it shut despite booking. checked website at 18:00hrs and found it should be open till 20:00hrs drive home hungry and angry desperately trying to find somewhere open. and not fully booked on a Sunday at 6:30 in the evening for food. I will be following this up tomorrow with the management.

Thought we would try out this recent addition to Cranliegh's eating options. Friday evening 6.30, a total of six diners plus us two, so hardly rushed off their feet. We waited for several minutes while the waiter ignored us, before we were seated. First impressions, not so good, second impressions no better. The decor is tacky beyond belief, plastic cacti on every table, plastic cattle skulls all over the ceiling, cactus salt and pepper, plastic cow boy hats for patrons to yeeha in (and yes, someone did borrow one for a few selfies with her adult companions), and don't forget the rickety wagon wheel furniture. Deep fried starters were very ordinary, but I had a medium rare eight ounce steak to look forward to. The steak could barely have been 4 ounces let alone 8. I asked the waiter if this was in fact an 8 ounce steak, he assured me that it was. Not convinced, I cut into it which revealed that apart from being short changed on size, the steak was well done - a uniform grey with not even a hint of pink. (It's very easy to over cook a small steak). This time the waiter did agree with my new complaint, and returned sometime later with a double portion of medium rare steak, explaining that the original did on second thoughts look a bit stingy. The salad accompaniment was insipid, the chips were limp, the coleslaw was adequate. Trading standards should check whether the advertised 8 ounces is in fact 8 ounces, and whether the chef is in fact a cook at all. Aside from those civil servants, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Food was delicious, staff were lovely and will definitely be going back and recommending to others. Portions generous as there was plenty for all. Staff friendly and helpful

Not sure quite where to start! Firstly this was an annual family treat pre theatre and for the first time visited this ‘restaurant’. Having looked online I was excited about their menu and the ‘western’ theme but never before have I been somewhere where perception v reality was the complete opposite! I imagined all decked out with a Country and Western them and staff in costumes and/or character and instead walked into a cafe style set-up with lights brighter than McDonald’s and 2 members of staff 1 of which looked liked there were off to walk the dog in the woods and the other wearing a branded apron from the coffee shop next door! So the first interaction after waiting some time was to be told that we needed to pay for the food once ordered, no hello or welcome and at a guess this is because people have walked out but maybe not done a ‘runner’ just either felt ripped off, got frustrated at the service or just didn’t get served! So after almost now having been seated for an hour the drinks finically arrived, milkshakes were ok but for £5.50 nothing special just thickened milk perhaps with a very small amount of flavoured ice cream, one of the shakes had small bits of plastic in the bottom which was drawn to the servers attention but it’s ok it’s probably off the lining inside the paper straw!! No apology, no replacement and remember we had already paid so tuff really! Starters arrived and actually were ok, some nicer than others and zero garnish or presentation for price paid! At almost £7 for the calamari it was more of side portion from a fast food outlet and served without lemon just a bowl of tartare. Now the wait for the mains and watching the comedy show around us, time for a quick comfort break but yet another small wait as the main toilets were out of order so a wait for the accessible toilet it was then back to the table to watch the food coming out of the microwave from the open kitchen. Whilst waiting a second drinks order is placed, glad we got some of them and just went without the ones forgotten prior to two of 7 main meals being served, the American burger looked like a cheeseburger but our server went to get the missing bacon and the buttermilk chicken strips ordered was now a chicken burger whilst the two family members started to eat while we had a further wait we soon realised we were eating the missing two mains from the table next to us which we highlighted to the table who equally had a fiasco with their starters and mains! So the other mains arrive but we’re missing a Philly steak sandwich but that’s because it was given to the wrong person! In fairness again the food was actually ok though wasn’t keen on the warm salad that came with the mains and in my opinion the boneless ribs for £23/4 were not worth the money given the size or quality whatsoever! Mains almost finished and along comes the bill for the additional drinks we ordered even though they were aware of the chaos and mistakes that were made, I kinda thought they would have been offered complimentary at the very least but no! No satisfaction check was made throughout and not daring to take the chance to enjoy dessert we left the table still full of dirty dishes and uneaten food. The sad part for us was as a family we do this once a year prior to Panto as a treat from parents and it was not cheap, my mother felt compelled to mention on the way out of the restaurant to the server that the experience was poor and the advice was to write a review, so here it is. I’m sad that this is someone’s business and it makes me sad that I can see from other reviews and my own experience this business is wrong and won’t be there long, they were seriously understaffed, undertrained and under managed, the concept on paper works but in reality doesn’t deliver, the restaurant ambiance and setting is wrong and I would fail to understand if anyone would leave this restaurant feeling anything more than disappointed. Such a shame!

Got off to a good start ordered four starters only three came apologised had an accident in kitchen last starter would be out shortly. Which it was. 45 minutes later our mains arrived all meals had cold chips, the chicken in mushroom sauce well!! It was dry and the sauce was a soup. Chicken waffle was cooked to a crisp the waffle was nice. All four of us left half a plate of food and the waitress came up and said shall I clear. We pointed out the problems and she said she would call the manager. He arrived asked what the problem was so we politely explained. To which he said would you like desserts which we declined and asked for the bill. This was duly brought including a 10% gratuity which we ask to be removed. All this time no apology what so ever. The manager of this restaurant really needs to learn some people skills I have never written a review about a restaurants poor service before as if I have ever had a problem the restaurant has sorted there and then. It is such a shame as we were looking forward to our first visit there and unfortunately we will not be giving them a second chance. Visited on Friday. Service was friendly and efficient. Table and room felt well maintained and clean. However the prices are astronomical, quality was poor but portion size was good. While it wasn't a disaster we did feeling like we wish we had gone to almost any other local venue for a better quality meal costing less. For the price I'd be expecting top quality and attention to detail. I'd return if I heard that quality had improved or prices were dramatically reduced.

Service wasn’t too bad, And starters were ok. But the chicken fajitas were atrocious! The 3 very small tortillas came out to the table in a plastic box which has the distinct smell of some kind of cleaning fluid which had tainted the tortillas and ruined the whole meal. When we raised this with our server she apologised and said she had spoken to the kitchen and they had told her it was the smell of the cornflour. I’ve never smelt cornflour that reeked of chemicals and the whole menu is very overpriced for the quality of food!!

Unfortunately I can't say anything positive about this place. The food was just about alright but it was difficult to eat without it spilling over the table because the plate was too small. I know why they do this and it's to make the portions look bigger because it completely fills the plate. Although the staff were pleasant enough they were obviously very inexperienced which matches reviews by other people and a couple of them had difficulty understanding English. Also, it's a bit of a cheek to add a service charge to the bill without mentioning it on the menu. I like to make my own mind up on how much I tip for good service and I normally leave a tip in cash to make sure it does go to the staff so I asked them to take the service charge off.

Two of us paid a visit to The Ol' West Cranleigh arriving just after 12pm. The menu offered comprehensive breakfast options which we both opted for, but we were refused this as the items were only available up till 12pm. If you make the breakfast options an all day offer - you will sell more food. As it was we were forced to choose from the dinner menu which for two at lunch time came to £65 when we wanted to spend half that. The waiting staff were attentive and chatty (the restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday!) So drinks and food arrived in a timely fashion. I am not an American food fan, my friend suggested we try it out - there was a LOT of lettuce and not a lot of salad dressing to enrich the eating experience. Everything was way too expensive and I am reluctant to pay a visit again, hence the comment about all day breakfasts, that would have been a nice way to serve the customer's and encourage return visits.

Arrived at 6.15 Tuesday to eat early before a show at 8.00. Place was practically empty but we had to find someone to take our order after waiting 15 mins. Food arrived after 40 mins and was lukewarm. My sirloin steak was 15% sinew, which had to be torn out as the knives wouldn't cut it. My wife's steak sandwich was just a pile of bread. We had to leave after just the one course to get to the show. Just 2 main courses and 2 glasses of wine £61. I have never had to say "avoid this place" before but I do now.
