We have eaten here twice in the last few weeks, once for lunch and once for dinner. On both occasions the food was very good - fresh bread for sandwiches and lovely main courses in the evening. We are particularly impressed that there is a good range of vegetarian dishes. Service was very good on both occasions with friendly and welcoming staff. We look forward to our next visit.

We stayed here last night and upon arrival the hotel looked nice and very pleasant... but that's where it stops the room was very sparse with no dresser to sit and do your make up or hair, the window is a health and safety risk as the window pulled right up and is very low a child could have fallen right out from the top floor this will be reported further. There was no milk to make a cup of coffee/tea the complimentary biscuits were cheap custard creams, no inside handle on the shower door, the shower gel and soap provided were the smallest I've ever seen considering there were 2 of us one just wasn't enough, no toilet roll hanger either, no heating in the room or air con, even the curtains were not hung properly yes the room has recently been refurbished and was clean but lacked the finer details for the money we spent.Customer service was very poor with 2 members of staff who would rather gossip about other colleagues than see to their guests but they must have learned that from the owner Martin as he is very rude and obnoxious, you only get out of your team what you put in and being berated for not standing at the designated smoking point scolding your guests is not on. There are no signs to say where you must stand but when we left this morning there were cigarette butts everywhere outside so maybe this is something Martin can improve on.. Manners cost nothing and this will be sent to the brewery who owns the hotel. The noise the fighting the traffic was horrendous you would think it was a boxing match live in the car park and not the football last night. Breakfast was mediocre and left much to be desired so do not believe the pictures you see you will be left disappointed. Not once did I see any ember of staff sanitise their hands at all when I was there and there was no mentioning of track and trace at all oh and if you need the loo downstairs in the bar area then maybe keep it in till you get somewhere more accommodating as the toilets were a mess with tissue paper and whetever else from the night before. For £120 I'd be looking to book somewhere else if I was you.

We used to be regulars here but haven't been for long time because of the pandemic so decided to try the outside dining area. There are now a good few tables outdoors which, on a good day, are very nice to sit at. We had a casual lunch - sandwiches which came with chips. Bread was very fresh and they adapted my chosen sandwich to my wishes (prawns without sauce). Service was very friendly and good so all in all it was a good experience and we look forward to returning.

Booked for Sunday lunch, arrived before allocated time seated and ordered food, 30 minutes later food arrived roast lamb and a lasagna, Roast included a giant tasteless and bland yorkshire pudding covering nearly all the plate. Cabbage bland swede mash runny tasteless.Lasagna, looked like one pile of pasta scraped out of dish in one heap on the plate and the mince also looked as scraped and dumped on the plate, complained about the state and was told can have another but as from same batch will be the same,Opted for a replacement roast lamb dinner. without the yorkshire as knew tasteless, one sage onion? ball that was cold. 2 soggy roast potatoes 3 pieces of carrot and probably 4 pieces of lamb, lucky of made 2 slices,Poor food and s certainly not value for the cost.Poor start for a well known pub grub venue after lock down.

Visited with family 4 of us. Everything is OK but thats about it. I had fish and chips. Fish was OK, chips came in a small bucket and there were 5 which for the price us not good. Mushy peas very watery couldnt eat them. Lovely side salad, no tartar sauce (heard another table complaining they were not served tartar sauce with scampi) Service was slow but polite and friendly. Surroundings old fashioned but ok. Food is typical average bar food which is very well presented and nice atmosphere as it is a hotel and quite busy.

We stayed at the Oaks hotel for two nights, at at the hotel the first night we were short of time and hadn't time to book anywhere else to eat, so we decided to eat at the hotel, this was a good decision as the food was of a really good quality and well presented, the food was also well priced and a very reasonable choice considering the way things are at the moment. I invited my family up for a meal the following night and they all agreed that the food was great and would certainly recommend the Oaks as somewhere to eat. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. I'd recommend the steak and the Cheese and Onion soup, might sound strange but totally delicious.

We have just stayed for two nights at The Oaks and it was really good value for money. Our room was lovely, clean warm with lovely bath in the room and separate shower in bathroom. Although on a main road it was quiet. There was plenty of room to park. We ate in the hotel and the food was very well cooked with lovely choices and a great early bird menu. I had the best roast dinner. Breakfast was in price of room and again well cooked. What we noticed was how happy all the staff seemed to be working there and very friendly. It is not far to walk into Alnwick which is a lovely place and also close to some other lovely attractions. Thank you for a great service. To be recommended to others.

Brilliant little gem of a pub! We’ve visited Alnwick many times and decided to try this place for lunch on the way home, best decision we made! 3 course lunch for £12.95 and the food was exceptional! We chose from the set menu and the presentation and quality of food far exceeded what we were expecting, will definitely be back next time we’re in the area. Nice to see dogs allowed in the bar area and it’s obviously a popular choice as guests were arriving and checking in while we ate. Bar and restaurant were quiet, relaxed and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Our group had the roast of the day. Very nicely presented but it had that look and taste if being reheated. Carrots had strange taste. Another person had lasagne, very nice presentation but quite bland to taste and hot and cold in parts so reheated? Garlic bread rock hard. Puddings (cheesecake) not nice served with vile spray cream and a very cheap ice cream. All food presented very well but on this occasion was bland and not the best. Lovely staff and good service. No baby changing facility in ladies toilets. Had to change baby on top of unit. Poor lighting and no paper towels All very poor clearly no thought or effort to accommodate families.

Whilst on holiday, we met up with another friend for tea one night as he was also on holiday and staying in The Oaks. Unfortunately the card machine wasn't working so thankfully our friend put everything on his room tab and we squared up with him later. I checked what meats were available on the carvery and my two dining companions ordered items from the menu for themselves. When their food arrived, my friend and I went to the carvery (as I currently have a broken foot in a boot, so he was going to serve and carry my plate for me) to collect my meal and found out that they didn't actually have the meat that I had been advised was on offer and that I wanted. The staff member very kindly said that they could heat some up for me in the back and it would take a few minutes, which they did; needless to say, the other two meals weren't as hot as they should have been when I finally got mine and my companions started to eat them. The food was certainly ok and we moved to the bar area once we had finished eating to have another drink together. The bar lady kindly took a picture of us on request and advised us on the best place to get petrol on our way back to our own accommodation.

We stayed in one of the rooms outside on the main pub building. Our room was lovely and comfy, hotel was in a quiet location. Cooked breakfast was beautiful. Had great potential but a few things let it down. The designated smoking area was a few steps from our door, meaning a cloud of tobacco smoke to walk through whenever you go out. Breakfast staff hopeless, really need training. Really bad soundproofing so when cleaning staff were grumbling outside our room that we hadn’t left yet, we could hear every word.

The menu has a good vegetarian choice - at least 3 or 4 items depending what is on the specials board and we can also recommend the fish and chips and the fish pie which are both superb. The bar is a traditional northern pub bar with a good ambiance and all are welcome - locals and visitors alike. Went to this hotel restaurant a few years ago. As it has a car park and is easy to access my husband and I decided to go for lunch. The welcome from the older waitress wasn't particularly warm, but we chose to eat in the restaurant rather than the bar. They served a "Pensioners' Special" lunch and we ordered from that menu. The only drawback was the lack of choice of starters and desserts. The main menu had a good selection of dishes, but the starter was soup, take it or leave it. I asked to have a fruit juice instead and the waitress grudgingly brought me a small glass of orange juice. It was a similar issue with dessert as my husband can't eat ice cream, but there was no alternative. We were charged an extra £1 each for a pot of tea which I thought was very reasonable. Perhaps the restaurant could consider offering fruit juice as an alternative starter and a tray bake, or something similar, to give a choice of sweet? It doesn't necessarily have to be hot.

Have always enjoyed a meal here, but sadly not tonight. My starter was a total let down, tai fish cakes, putting all 3 together wouldn’t make a half fish cake! Main, roast lamb (very tender) green veg (3 small pieces of broccoli)bubble n’ squeak and gravy with red currents, (very salty). My partners meal, starter, goats cheese risotto , very nice. Main, Turkey pie and chips, yet again very salty gravy.. so a let down for both of us.

We had a super meal! The young waitress who greeted us was very friendly . The chicken burger was very tasty with 3 large crispy onion rings ,salad and chips. The steak burger was also very well received! The macaroni cheese with leeks was also very tasty and asking for it without mushrooms was not a problem.

Called in yesterday for lunch - just under £9 per head for two course lunch - we had fish, chips, peas and side salad followed by treacle sponge and custard. The meal - for the price - was excellent : ample portions for lunchtime meal and all hot and tasty. The staff here are always very friendly and happy to help. Would certainly recommend for mid week lunch.

A good varied menu with the normal pub grub with also a specials menu which is excellent. Portion sizes are enormous so be warned. If you like cheese cake theirs is one of the best. Also there is a good choice of drinks including craft beers.

We were staying locally and popped in for an evening meal - we had a very tasty dinner. The staff were very friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait long for our food. We arrived just before 6.00pm and were the first ones in the restaurant - but not for long! It soon filled up with hungry diners so I'm glad we got in early.

Had to go to Alnwick today to deliver some documents. Oh a whim, we booked a table at The Oaks Hotel, on the roundabout as you go into Alnwick ( from the South side). The table was booked for 12.30 and we arrived about 12.15 . We were greeted by a friendly waitress that took us to our table in the restaurant ( you can also eat in the bar). Our drinks order was taken quickly and the waitress informed us that she would advise us when the chef was ready for our table ( great idea because it means that there is not a stampede at the carvery. Within a couple of minutes, she came back and advised us "chef was ready" ...... What a superb lunch - there was pork, beef, gammon and turkey and a great range of veg - roasties, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, carrots, cabbage, swede - but oh my !!!!! The star of the show was The Yorkshire puds.... fantastic !!!We were served by an incredibly polite chef called Neil and as we ate our lunch, we were close enough to watch Neil's interaction with customers - what a lovely young man, his attitude, especially to the older customers was full of caring. He was a joy to watch. We were asked by 2 waitresses if we had enjoyed it and when we said yes, they both said "well please come back" . We left with very full tums and a feeling that our business had been very much appreciated and it also didn't empty our wallet - £8.95 for the lunch which was worth every penny. AND ...... yes everyone, we will most certainly be back. Thank you.

We arrived too late for the Carvery, but still managed to get a delicious Sunday lunch served from the kitchen, complete with the Oaks famous mega Yorkshire pudding, which alone, is worth a visit for!!Choice of two meats, mashed swede, crunchy green cabbage, carrots and broccoli plus crisp roast potatoes and lush gravy. And all for only £8.95! What more could you wish for?

My husband and I had quite a few meals at The Oaks Hotel. They had a good choice of menu - spoilt for choice if anything. They do an early starter from 5.30 but you can only get a starter and main not a main and sweet. I think that if they changed this to a main and sweet more people would go for this.

After reading positive reviews about The Oaks Hotel my partner and I were left feeling disappointed at our lunch meals. We chose the 'hot totties' which sounded delicious, his being the 'pulled pork' and mine 'fish finger', but they were basic and tasteless. The fish was bland but edible- however my partner said his was awful, the pork was obviously cold cuts that had been reheated and smothered in a sickly barbecue sauce with peppers and onions. There was nothing 'pulled' about it! As we were so hungry and this was our last meal in Northumberland we were left feeling disappointed at the quality, especially after reading such positive reviews on TripAdvisor prior to going there. The chips were nice enough and the menu had a good selection but we will not be returning the next time we visit Alnwick.

Dreadful experience. Again. We came for Mothers day and it was awful. We gave it another chance today but once again were completely ddisappointed. The lady sat behind us was a member of staff and we overheard her saying everything is precooked and they just shove it in the microwave. I can confirm that the lukewarm food wasn't even reheated properly. Roasties were so rubbery I struggled to cut them up! The trio of meat was barely a sliver and it seems that even though we arrived and ordered a good 20 minutes before the lady behind us, she got preferential treatment and was served before us!! The Snowy Owl will not be getting anymore chances and we will be sure to spread the word - avoid at all costs!

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.

Called in at lunchtime for a couple of drinks. This is the second time but no more. A man, the same on both occasions standing at bar had the foulest loud mouth He was actually talking to the barman and two others Every other word began with "f' He had a dog with him This time he pulled seat out at one of the tables for his dog to sit at Absolutely disgusting. My husband mentioned to barman who grinned and apologised Not good enough
