Great place with a warm welcome by our server- lady called Anne Marie, our visit was outstanding from start to finish. Anne Marie made a point of explaining the menu, service was quick and efficient, food absolutely delicious and tasty. We are definitely returning with friends. I made a point of asking for Anne Maries name because we were so impressed with how well we were looked after. Visit date 29th April table 2. Well done. Finally a place that ticks every box when it comes to outstanding service with a smile and tasty food.

Visited restaurant tonight, party of 10 people with 6pm reservation. Taken to our table very promptly and first people sitting down. Server came to take drinks order immediately and although a welcoming smile would have been appreciated orders placed. Food orders taken promptly but that’s when service unravelled. At 7.00 pm we had to chase food (all 10 guests just had main course) - took another 15 minutes for orders to start appearing. Crispy duck salad was literally a small bowl of leaves swimming in dressing with a approximately 6 pieces of overcooked duck. To be fair other family members enjoyed their choices especially the sweet potato curry and fish and chips. Not withstanding chasing orders and relatively quite service- necessary to call attention of servers for drinks. Would not hurry back !!

We had a table booked for 6 on Sunday at 1.30pm, when we arrived there was no table for 6 available even though l had booked 4 days in advance. So after a few minutes of moving tables about we finally sat down. A member of staff then came to take our drinks order, this is when things started to go wrong. After 20 minutes the drinks had still not arrived so one of our group went and asked why there was a delay. The drinks then arrived 5 minutes later but while they were being served a glass of wine was split over one of our guests. We felt sorry for the young lady serving us as it was obvious they were under pressure. A further 15 minutes went by before someone came to take our meal order. We had been in the resturant over an hour before our starters arrived, but other groups who had arrived after us had been served their starters but we’re sending them back as they were not what they had ordered. After finishing our starters we continued to wait for our main meal after 30 minutes we asked how long it would be to be told that it was being served as we speak. Then staff came out of the kitchen with food and served other tables and told us it would a few more minutes. At this point we had had enough so we paid for what we drunk and eaten and left. I’m assume the guy the spoke to us as we left was the manager and his reason for the delay in serving food was the heat in the kitchen. Admittedly the outside temperature at the time was 30 degrees but after leaving we went to a Miller and Carter Steakhouse just down the road and had drinks served within 5 minutes and was eating our main course within 20 minutes. We can not blame the staff for any of this as they were just waiting around for the food to be served, l can only assume they did not have enough chefs to meet the demand on the day as we later found out that there had been a function going on at the same time. Until they sort out their staffing problems l would not recommend this establishment, thank goodness we managed to get a proper meal at another resturant nearby.

We came in for a late meal one weekday evening and ordered a couple of mains from the two for one meal. The food was plentiful and well prepared and excellent value. What was unexpected was the lovely welcome we received. We'd had some bad news and were feeling low and needed some tlc and to recharge our batteries and be fed. We were very well looked after, and I must say we really took to the manager on duty who was kindness itself, a lovely person. Angels sometimes come in disguise! We'll definitely come back for another meal when we stay in the area again and we'd like to try the carvery another time.

Terrible experience. No bar or restaurant facilities available in nearly all public areas as 2 private functions took over restaurant and bar area leaving us the corridor to sit and have a drink in. Manager Shaun Preece was terrible. So rude and patronising and unapologetic for the situation saying ‘you only booked a room’. Broken toilet seat and mould on bedroom wall and no heating in room didn’t help. We will never return and urge other not to use this hotel.

We had our wedding organised by Shaun, he honestly worked so hard our guests were all commenting on how amazing the day was, from organising to the actual day flawlesss, can’t thank him enough. All his recommendations were spot on, clearly knows this business very well. Our day ran so smoothly even kept our DJ in check. We had our meal in the function room, and expected the same table centres in his fabulous marque, however he listened to my requests and changed it all round our evening was different to the day and it was incredible for the transformation our guests were blown away. We stayed in the hotel for the evening and again bridal sweet was just lovely, Breakfast was brilliant something to suit everyone. Honestly amazing location for our guests travelling from north and south. For parties or any get togethers i highly recommend

Came for a birthday meal with the family- yes it’s a carvery but we had 2 vegetarians with us and on standard menu online there are 6 vegetarian options. No indication vegetarian options would not be available on the Sunday on the website. There was NO vegetarian starter!!! and only ONE option for main meal. Queried with staff who said they would make up a tomato and basil soup but only enough for 1 person!! When queries why website did not show correct menu - were told it is because changes. Surely in this day and age you have to allow for customers to be vegetarian!! Will not be coming again - need to make Sunday menu show vegetarians are not welcome!!

We had 8 contractors stop over for a week. And once again would like to thank Shaun and the team for a great stay. The hotel is situated not too far from Jaguar Land Rover in Solihull, and is our first choice when working there. We have stayed there on 6 previous occasions and find the hotel and staff very welcoming. The lads always get looked after in the bar, and the food is always of high quality and competitively priced with the two for one offers. The team appreciate the flexibility offered as some lads dont like to eat first thing and the chef offeres the ability to swap a breakfast for a packed lunch. The rooms are always clean with comfy beds. And the rates charged are highly competitive. I would recommend the Oak highly.

We have been loyal customers here for quite some years, but this is the last time that we will be going there! The bedroom was filthy, shower was mouldy (only good thing was the water pressure). There had been leaks in the ceiling. The extraction fan was very noisy, I checked this and the rotor was clogged with dirt (never been maintained). No safety catches on the windows ... one hell of a drop to the ground. landing light fitting was missing (just bare wires hanging down). Health and Safety would have a condemned this place for sure. The last time we visited it was not too clever, but decided to give it another chance. Bad decision!!! I was told that if I call direct we would get a better price, but it turns out the price I was given for B&B, turned out to be bed only ... big rip off. The bed was firm but uncomfortable, due to the multitude of raised fasteners (another guest had the same comments). There should have been an under blanket to cover these. The laminate was lifting in several places, which was a trip hazard. I could give a better description if I could publish photos. Advice to anyone wishing to stay here .... give it a miss and go to a decent bed and breakfast. Having said all this, I really feel sorry for the manager, as I understand the owner has failed to provide the funds to run the place like a Hotel and he is operating the premises on a shoe string!

Hadn't been for a carvery for many years as always felt let down in the past by other restaurants, but decided to take the plunge, and also the kids were asking for one instead of the usual burgers. This was our first visit to The Oak, despite passing it many times over the years and I have to say I was very impressed. We were greeted by friendly staff and were seated straight away. We had starters and then the carvery and the food was plentiful and very hot, not to mention delicious. The staff also engage with my children which I do feel is important as it makes the kids feel more attached to the whole process.

Food tasted nice but don't rate the value for money.

A group of friends and I had a table booked for 3pm. Having purchased a drink upon arrival from the bar, we went to take our seats. We were told by the manager that they were suffering a slight backlog and that we would have to wait a short while. Cut to an hour later and we still had not sat down. Not quite a “short while”. We were finally told that a table was ready, and that it was just being set. Ten minutes later and we were still not sat down, so we asked again. We were told that it would be ready shortly. After another delay we went up and asked, at which point we were told that a party was just having dessert and the table would be ready once they were gone. So, after having been lied to, we were not best pleased. This was exacerbated by the fact that we could see an empty table in the middle of the room. After enquiring as to why we could not sit at this table, the manager then gave us a rather vague reason about rearranging a table. We said that the empty table would be fine, so we took our seats. We were told our orders would be taken shortly. Twenty minutes later and we had seen no-one, despite mentioning this to the manager at least twice. Eventually we just got up and helped ourselves to the carvery as no-one had come to see us and ask what we wanted or to see if we wanted another drink. As we went up to get our dinner some of us (adults) were given child-sized plates. Judging by the fact that another group sat on a table behind us didn’t have any cutlery I can only assume that they were running out of plates as well. Having eaten our meal, the first time someone came up to our table was to remove the plates, reinforcing my view that they were low on dishes. Not once did someone come over to check to see if we wanted another drink or if the food was satisfactory. We all felt that the manager was particularly unhelpful and unapologetic during our time there. We did not receive a single apology from her, the only person that showed us any degree of sympathy was an extremely harried looking waitress whom I felt extremely sorry for as she was running around. There had clearly been a problem with overbooking several large parties and there was not enough room, or dinnerware to cater to everyone present. Needless to say, will not be returning.

This was the first of our weekend jaunts to eateries after a Sunday drive. The wife and I visited on Sunday 27th May. We decided to go for the carvery. it was our intention to go for 3 courses. The starters where tasty. My wife had the crayfish and I had the pate. A slice of bread fell out of the crayfish dish when it was served. I was not replaced. We went up for the carvery and all looked good. However, it was the blandest food we ever tasted. The only thing that had any flavour was the gammon and that was because it was salty. Not even the gravy had any flavour. Very disappointing. An observation - the dining room ceilings and walls were going dark, it is as if they were stained with BBQ smoke, could do with a lick of paint to freshen up. We did not go for dessert in the end. The staff were friendly though.

We were recommended The Oak by a friend. Our first couple of visits were faultless. On our third visit my husband had a steak that was tough and full of gristle. He complained but was told that rib eye steak is always like that. We let it go and visited a few more times with no complaints. However, we have just got back from The Oak and our meals tonight were very poor. My husband had the pie which was so salty he could not eat it (he has the pie of the day last week and it was very nice). My ceaser salad was awful hardly any dressing, no parmesan and soggy croutons...I did not complain about the salad but my husband did complain about his pie. The waitress spoke to the manager who would not come to our table to speak to us. My husband went over to speak to him but he simply said the amount of salt was personal taste. Such a shame it is local to us and we were planning a big family get together at the Oak later this month but we will never set foot in the place again. They need to get their customer care sorted as a priority. A simple apology and assurance that he would speak to the chef was all we wanted.

We booked in for an over night stay at The Oak. We ate in the bar area and the staff were very polite and friendly, we ordered a fishfinger sandwich. When it arrived we were delighted with the quality and presentation. The fish was fresh in doorstep slices of bread, served with salad and a generous portion of chips. The bar was a comfy clean area. The room was disappointing, we had managed to get the room online at a reduced price of £40 and if we were paying the full amount we would have asked to be moved. The bathroom was an size with a shower, sink and toilet, the side wall next to the sink was painted in purple and was splattered with white marks which I am assuming is toothpaste and soap as it could easily be wipes off, there was not bin in the bathroom. The shower was very powerful but draining was very poor, we turned the shower on, left the room for a minute for it to warm up and returned to a fully shower tray which was about to over flow, we removed the plus but the water did not drain away so showered in a few inches of water in the base of the try. The bathroom floor was grubby, mould marks in areas and only 1 small shelf above the sink to place your items. The bed was clean and comfy. No hairdryer in the room but these may have been available at reception. We would return for the food but probably not stay over unless we managed to get the room at a reduced price.

We are now 5-6 weeks down the line and they still haven't shown us the courtesy of providing and update or even telling us that they cannot fulfill our request. Had a Sunday lunch here last week. We were not impressed with an earlier Sunday lunch we had here in April, but decided to give them the benefit of another opportunity to change our opinion. The restaurant was very very quiet so there was no excuse for incredibly slow service throughout our visit. Had to remind them of our drinks order which took forever to arrive. The starters were equally slow. The mains took 45 minutes to arrive, which given the emptiness of the restaurant, was inexcusable. Out of 5 adult meals, three were simply not good enough. I had salmon: it was completely overlooked, dry and tasteless, the only reason I ate it was because I was so ravenous from the long wait. Another family member's steak was grisly and another sent their burger back. We pointed this out to our waitress who looked embarrassed. She deducted the price of the three meals and apologised for the poor food/service we had experienced. This was two visits where we were extremely disappointed diners. It goes without saying: we will not return.

We called in here as a party of 8 (plus baby) by chance. The exterior is pleasant and bright but the restaurant feels less so. They did create a table for us quickly and without fuss, and our server was a pleasant and friendly throughout. However, we had mixed views of the Carvery. The portions of meat were reasonably generous but the selection of vegetables was uninspiring - they looked as if they were "end of a busy day" selection. Basically lots of peas remaining and virtually nothing else. The pudding choices were limited to 4, and one was not available – which really disappointed my daughter, though the sticky toffee pudding really pleased my grandson. The advertised apple and cinnamon crumble was not available - rhubarb instead and presented as a ‘blob’ on my plate. The cheesecake was most unusually presented. The serving staff spent a lot of time huddled together in the restaurant gossiping rather than serving which slowed us down. My son tried to access the baby changing in the disability toilet, but couldn’t and enlisted a member of staff who tried to help in a rather offhand way, resulting in him standing outside an empty toilet for 10 minutes! The next person he enlisted was most reluctant to leave his station and so my son had to contend with a fractious and smelly baby for a long time and then return to a cold meal. The chef on the carvery really loved his job! Questions about dietary issues were met with monosyllabic grunts and gestures….Eventually we finished about 2 hours after we went in. A bit of a torture!! Our scores (out of 10) Food 6; Service 6; Ambience 8; Value for Money 8.

We found a hair in our breakfast and on the table setting also. Carpet in restaurant was filthy. Made a complaint at reception first morning and never heard back from any manager. Disappointed and on check out was asked to pay again when we had paid on arrival. Asked to see a manager and was told they were in bed...! No follow up from complaint was not acceptable, would not stay again.

Maybe it was because it was late in the day but we had a carvery here and I can safely say it was the worst I have ever experienced. The food was dry and did not have any flavour at all. Will definitely not be returning.

If you want a great little place to stay that's convenient for access to the motorway but puts you somewhere semi-rural (and not your regular Premier Inn's) then this fits the bill. You get a warm welcome on arrival, simple but comfy rooms, a great bar & restaurant courtesy of the lovely Rachel (bar & restaurant manager) and a hearty breakfast each morning. Free wifi & ample parking. I've already booked my return visit in two weeks time. Goodbye Ramada, hello The Oak.

I recently stayed at the oak hotel for a short period due to travel and work. Room was ok, reception staff fantastic upon arrival. Duration of stay was over all ok... it's the customer service i have received after my stay. Unfortunately when I checked out early hours I had forgotten something in the room I was staying in and only noticed this once I had unpacked. I called the hotel straight away and was told someone would go check in the room and lost property then call me back. A few hours past and I had no call so I called them and was told nothing could be found and no record of anything left in the lost property. The lady on reception said she would enquire with the housekeeping the following morning once they arrive. I called again the following morning to then be told it is no where to be found and they have looked ... the lady I spoke to was very helpful but unfortunately this was not the answer I needed to hear. She did say she would contact me if it crops up as it may have been put somewhere with other things.I have retraced my steps and know for sure that my item was left in the room. I have been chasing the hotel with phone calls as no one seems to contact me back. I have also sent a couple of emails too, no reply.Absolutely gutted as I feel as I have been robbed . Sad to say but I shall not return as I don't feel I could trust leaving anything unattended.

Stayed here for one night on a business trip, I wanted to get the Hoover out and Hoover everywhere. The carpets were dirty in the reception, in the dining hal, and in general around the walk ways. The shower in our room seemed to have some orange fungus amongst the tiles and needed a good dousing of bleach or something similar. We were too late for dinner at 8.10pm as the reception failed to tell us that the carvery was cleared away at 8pm, and so we had to go out in the car to find somewhere else to eat locally. Would I stay here again, I'm afraid not!

We had pre booked a table for a party of 12 people, it took ages for someone to come and take our order and we eventually got our meal after a wait of 1hr and 20mins. I meal of gammon was inedible, there were no staff available for us to complain to, when we eventually found someone he offered to change the meal which was equally as bad. There were no apologies or anyone checking to see if second meal was ok or on the rest of the table to ask if our food was ok. 2 steaks were ordered with sauces, meals were bought but no sauce after asking 3 times sauce was eventually bought by which time half of the meal had been eaten. Vegetables on other meals were undercooked. The BOGOF offer is a joke really as a meal of gammon, chips and pineapple with a bit of dry salad is £12.95, gammon was more like a thick piece of bacon not a juicy piece of gammon. and dry and hard. We didn't bother with any sweets or coffee as we had been there for nearly 2 and a half hours and only had 1 course. We wont be returning

Went here with friends on a national holiday Christmas market trip. We have been on a few and I have to say this is the nicest hotel we have stayed in. Yes it's a bit jaded in some areas and could do with a bit of TLC. but it was a one night stay with dinner and breakfast included. The bar area was lovely and for a hotel the prices weren't bad. The staff were lovely really friendly and polite. The dinner was a 3 course with a choice of 3 starters mains and sweets. My friend and I had cottage pie with veg. It was really tasty and a large portion. My other 2 friends had the gammon also a large portion and they both said it was delicious. Soups to start was good and no complaints on the puddings. You had to walk up to get your main course but they had it well organised so no massive queue. The bedroom was warm and clean and the beds comfy. Breakfast the next morning again was help yourself but no massive queue like we have been used to in the past and it was good and hot. All in all an excellent overnight stay. If we are ever in this area again I would definitely stay here.

I attended with my friends and family for the Micheal Buble and Robbie Williams Tribute night on the 15th December 2016. The tribute night was great the food and service was great. The only downside was the managers attitude towards us when we asked for an alternative desert to Christmas pudding as two of the party didn't like it. Her reply was it's a set menu yet she was quite happy to give a fruit salad alternative to a pregnant lady, this shouldn't matter at the end of the day it's a really lovely place and unfortunately this spoilt such a wonderful evening. The manager would benefit from retraining her attitude towards the customers as on numerous occasions previously this has let her down.

I write more in sorrow than anger about our visit to the Oak for a family meal today. We were a party of 12, booked well in advance and arrived on time. We were informed when we arrived that we had to wait as there were people eating their carvery at our table. Eventually they sent for us and we settled down in a beautiful, well decorated restaurant. They took our orders quickly and all was going swimmingly. Eventually after quite a long time (but they were busy so we understood that things might be a little slow) some of the starters arrived. Unfortunately they did not serve the children first which I find amazing these days and one of the children wasnt served their starter, nor one one the adults, they arrived eventually as everyone else was finishing theirs. This was not a good start to our meal as its just horrible to eat when someone hasnt got their food. We kept on asking but it didnt arrive. Once everyone had eaten their starter we went to the carvery, which was totally delicious and one of the best we have eaten. There was choice of gravy, both very tasty but then again when it came to dessert there were problems with service. These took ages to arrive and when they did one was missing and it took so long to arrive that we cancelled it as we had all finished ages ago. Coffee arrived eventually, beautiful hot fresh coffee which smelt delicious - but no milk or cream. We had to ask three times until it eventually arrived by which time the coffee was lukewarm and not pleasant. By the way they had run out of Vanilla Ice Cream - how can any restaurant worthy of the name run out of such a basic commodity? They seem to have little idea of what good restaurant service should be. No one asked if everything was all right with our meal, no one asked if we wanted to order drinks (missing a huge source of extra income here by the way) and really I have to say no one went out of their way to aid in our enjoyment of the meal. The food though was beautiful, totally delicious, the starters were brilliant, the soup was great and we loved the fresh roasted vegetables and the cauliflower cheese. The meat was wonderful, lean and beautifully cooked. Oh if only the service had matched! For the first time in many years of eating out I felt I had to complain and was absolutely unable to leave a tip for good service, simply because we did not get good service, far from it, it was poor. We spoke to the manager who was really kind and apologetic and he did make some recompense to us which was nice - but you know we would much rather have received service that matched the high standard of the food. What a shame, the service let it and us down.

Found a £30.00 per night deal and decided to have a last minute Friday night treat. The room was a ground floor family room which was nicely furnished and the décor was lovely. The bathroom we requested did not materialise but as the beds were comfy and the shower was good not such a problem. No hairdryer in the room but receptionist arranged one for us. The bathroom needed a better cleaning and no glasses available, however plenty of towels and toiletries. The restaurant has a good atmosphere with fresh white roses on table and real candles Had a 2-4-1 steak meal which was really tasty served with the best onion rings I've ever had. Followed up with a yummy lemon tart for me and hubby had white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, both served with slightly over chilled ice cream but nonetheless delicious. The waitress Mrs Stuart was friendly and attentive and service was prompt. Breakfast was good value and offered a good standard of juice, cereals, toast, jams and full English cooked fair and as much or little as you wanted to eat . Only downside was very inconsiderate people in other rooms chatting and television on until 3am!! But as a whole would visit again.

Went to The Oak as had not been there for a while , , menu look ok as there was some 2 4 1 , I ordered the burger , wife had the sea bass , the sea bass was ok a little over cooked and the lemon butter was a pool of sauce, as for the burger the bread roll looked as if it had been in The kitchen a few days , the bacon and onion rings dried and fallen apart , burger half the size of the bread.... half way through my meal I asked for wine, this came 10 minutes later after reminding the waitress who had been too busy talking to other staff who obviously had nothing else to do as there was at least 4 waiters / waitresses and only about the same in customers ... the more experienced waitress ( sounds better than older lady) who took the order and my wine order ( who shouted to the bar about my wine after reminding her )who should be setting an example certainly was not , when wine had eventually arrived after looking at desserts I asked the senior waitress for the bill , I'm not sure if she may have the early signs of memory loss but again I had to ask another member of staff who wasn't doing much about the bill . The senior waitress gave us the bill(obviously a smoker as sprayed with over powerful perfume). Which yet another member of staff came with the card machine...It is the worse service I've had from anywhere for a long time and the food wasn't great .. maybe 2 4 1 says it all.. it maybe 2 4 1 but this is not worth the money and will not be having any of mine anytime soon

Found the hotel on trivago, family room and twin for £90 room only. Check in was a breeze with a very knowledgeable receptionist. Family room was very large, queen size double with full size single. Beds were comfortable. Only didn't score 5 stars as a bedside light didn't work and the bathroom had heavy dust on surfaces. It was clean with a good selection of toiletries, lovely towels and a good shower, though access to the shower was interesting for someone of my girth. The only downside was the creaky floors in the hall and rooms around us. My wife sleeps lightly so noticed it. Will definitely stay next time we are at the NEC. Especially because of the restaurant. I have reviewed that separately.

We had a dinner for 10 here 3 years ago, one of the best meals I have ever had, and I've had a few. Stopped in here at the weekend as we were in the area and feeling a little nostalgic. We thought we would take advantage of the two for one deal, thinking if the meal was usually worth 12.95, it must be great value for half that. They say thathat you get what you pay for, I thus case even that wasn't true. I had the sausage and mash. Thus came with two good sized, well cooked sausages and a small dollop of crusty (not in a good way) mash. P had the pie of the day, which can only be described as a small soup plate of watery chicken casserole with a lid.At 3£ a meal, maybe worth it, bit of a stretch at 6.5£, and certainly not worth the advertised 12.95.Sorry guys, used to be very good, but you know it's bad if I would rather eat at Weatherspoons.

We had lunch from the 2 for 1 menu and were pleasantly surprised. The fact that it took half an hour to get 4 coffees and 2 teas should have been a warning! One of the coffees arrived with nutmeg on top instead of chocolate powder! However we returned at 2 for lunch after a pleasant walk. Seven of us ordered and it took over 30 minutes for the food to arrive, although the only other customers left just after we arrived. The battered fish was dark brown, the salmon was hard, the steak charred to death, and the sausages had a suspicious flavour. After the food arrived the staff were no where to be seen. Having eaten what was edible we finally saw a waitress to express our complaints. The manager was told of our misgivings but refused to come and speak to us. I left my phone number but no one has spoken to me yet. Needless to say we will not be returning to The Oak.

Stayed for two nights in room 15. The room was comfortable but rather odly furnished with an open wardrobe with only 3 hangers. Storage space was also restricted but the bathroom was the disappointment with no soap tray in the shower, but masses of hot water. The grouting was stained in places and the plastering was to a low standard. Saturday and Sunday nights there were very noisy parties going on but we were well away from the racket! ! We didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on that. The country location and delightful appearance is endearing. The bar suffers from a loud television and clashing bar musak. However the service here is first class. Overall a lovely visit and recommended. I just wish that owners would spend a night in each room!

It is sad that the restaurant is so bad, because the hotel is actually really nice. The food is actually not bad which makes it worse. The 2 for 1 deal is great too. Just a Management/staffing problem here. They just don't know how to serve, I saw the waitresses forget to put orders in or not write things down so of course they didn't come out or came out wrong, not just for my table but for the two I could see. One waitress went and chatted with a group, and I'm all for friendliness but not when this poor guy is sitting there not getting any service because the other ones are chatting in a corner. They didn't check tables to see if they needed anything or even offer to top up our ciders, which just seems like lost revenue. They were sweet, but so unfocused. Breakfast service was better but the breakfast table/buffet was a joke. It was a mess, nothing ever stocked. It seems like each meal needs one more staff member or someone to oversee.

Sons burger went down well as did the pasta dish the other partook in. She who must be listened to also decided she fancied a prosecco which is only sold by the bottle. Despite this, three mains and two rather tasty lemon tart deserts, drinks and bottle of plonk weighed in at under £60. Taking the bottle at £15 out, thats change out of £15 per head

...do deceive.(Please do not confuse my review with the same named hotel next door).I want to tell you about our 'experience'- for both guests/ staff and management! 8.6- no wayWe arrived at ‘The Oak’ which is in lovely rural and quiet surroundings and a mile or two from the town- initial external impressions were good when we were parking up.After checking in (same building/same name-even same staff) we were advised of the 2-4-1 dinner offer which sounded like a good idea.Oh boy-!DINNER (1st night)Walking through from the hotel through the bar area to the restaurant we were offered a seat immediately-but that's where the fun stopped and the experience began. It took nearly 15 minutes AFTER we had been seated to even get a drink and another 15 minutes to get catch one of the staffs attention (no table allocation?) to be able to order food.(Please note the restaurant had NO obvious functions running and only around 6 tables and 16 guests were seated at this time although there was a small group of drinkers in the bar area. When we did manage to order (rump steak and Salmon mains) it was another 40 minutes before this arrived. Chips were obviously the cheap frozen variety- the steak although ordered med rare was neither and the salmon was cooked to its death. We did not dare to send it back or complain and I will tell you why-The restaurant did NOT have a shortage of staff, but those on duty appeared to be demoralised and disinterested with no apparent restaurant manager to keep control with staff chatting and not noticing the empty glasses on diners tables! There was no customer contact (after the each initial order) – “Is the food ok Sir”? “Would you like another drink?” “Would you like anything else?”Tables were left un-cleared -the staff were standing around- sometimes flitting between kitchen/restaurant/bar (empty handed)- even ignoring the customers. One single elderly diner asked about the discrimination about having to pay full price whilst ‘couples’ paid half price? (2-4-1)Response- “that’s how it is…….” Seriously?I tried to get someone’s attention to pay the bill- fruitless- so I stood by the till and waited for someone to respond. He who (why no name badges??) then did then take payment, accidentally knocked a glass off the (EPOS) table and responded ”not the first today and not the last” but left the glass on the floor…WOW!Not even asked if we enjoyed our meal (we didn’t)- NO TIP. BREAKFAST (1st morning)We came down a few minutes early and were told that we could take coffee (GOOD quality) as the English breakfast was not quite ready (fair enough) and once served (buffet) was good value (£5 per hotel guest),however on the continental side it was chaos- no teaspoons for the cups- tea in a thermos can? Guests complaining/requesting a fresh tea as NO tea bags are available!!! No tongs for the bread, just fingers from all the guests (yuck)- a toaster that is past its sell by date and needed a good clean. No cold meats or cheese- just cereal- fruit came just before we left at 09.15hrs! Staff carrying glasses stacked against their bodies. Complaint from a guest as they could not get the tap on the apple juice to work- member of staff (no name no badge) simply opens the tap- ONTO the FLOOR!!!!Poor!BREAKFAST (Sunday)Oh dear! (repeat of Saturday but worse))A guest was using the orange juice (glass) dispenser when it broke and OJ was pouring directly onto the floor- As none of the staff reacted, I jumped in to help and requested a receptacle to contain both the juice and glass container. This took THREE asks to get what was needed.CONCLUSIONCould be a great place- would be happy to discuss direct.

We held a lunch for my wifes 60th birthday a few days ago at the Oak Hotel. There were 32 of us and we pre-ordered all meals. All of the meals were correct, fresh and hot and were delivered in good time, ie,, no one had finished before other had their meal etc. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. After lunch we went outside for a drink in the sun and the staff cleared all the tables and reset them for the birthday cake and compulsory sing song (they didn't have to do this). Very impressed with the helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the lunches given that they were doing 32 in one go. My wife and family all had a great afternoon there,, thank you to all the staff at the Oak Hotel. Oh, and we had four vegans with us and the staff went out of their way to provide meals for them as the menu didn't include vegan.
