It was not clear when we entered that you had to find and sit at a table and then queue to order anything. So we queued for 10 minutes whilst the crashed till was rebooted, people who had ordered takeaway coffees finally were served their drinks, the same drinks were then made but in cups, cappuccinos were left on the counter because no one knew who they were for and all this was accompanied by the dulcet tones of Richard. Not sure who he was, the owner, the manager, if I was a member of the team there I am sure I would have had a lot of names for him. I have rarely experienced someone so unprofessional in a services industry. He clearly had a team of fairly young people working there that either needed a little more training or a little more support and help. What they didn’t need was his gobby sarcastic rudeness and as potential customers my wife and I felt almost embarrassed for them. After ten minutes of this we decided to leave. A shame really as the venue and what it had to offer looked lovely. We might go back now that we understand the process and we discover what Richard’s day off is. If there is a grey haired guy with grey bushy eyebrows standing behind the coffee machine, keep walking. There is plenty of choice nearby.

We were attracted by the window display but more than disappointed when we went in. To be honest the scones were nice ( only plain available) but the service and attitude of the man and lady ( presumably the owners ) is appalling. He got everything wrong and she just barks at people. The place could really do with a clean and tidy up. Very disappointed when we had so much choice but ended up making the wrong decision.

The 2 which I assume run the place (man and lady) are so rude to one another and even to their staff! No table service, you have to look for a table yourself, order at the counter and the lady watches over you until you take payment...Definitely wont be visiting again. On a day out to Stratford – nothing special, just creating a few memories – we spotted the café and thought how attractive the window display was. That’ll do us, we thought. It was a bit of a fight to get inside, the entrance door being blocked by the queue for service. Undeterred, we made our way to a little table towards the back of the building. It was cosy (a tight fit) and quaint (wobbly table), but we soon realised we had a grandstand view of the horror that was the conservatory roof. It was swathed in a variety of makeshift measures to keep the weather at bay – for example, tatty blue tarpaulin, slabs of dirty polystyrene packaging, even some sandbags!Under this worrisome-looking canopy was a table full of people, being treated to a close-quarters view of the loo, as a couple of customers stood holding the toilet door open while they queued. Nice.Having bagged ourselves a table, we had to go back to the entrance area to wait (and wait, and wait!) to have our order taken. During this time, the older man (owner?) was faffing around at great length making coffees and then he managed to break the shelf in the fridge – the fridge was awkwardly placed to cut off access behind the counter, which didn’t help speed the service here. And they were short of change for the till. The man was rude to staff which was unpleasant for them and also for customers having to stand there and watch.Back at our table our wait was interrupted several times by young waiting staff bearing food, apparently trying to mate it up with the people who had ordered it.Facing in the other direction we could see people eating their food, attractively (not!) served in red plastic baskets. Plastic baskets - when was that ever a good look? Our coffees arrived, one of them sloshed into the saucer, but we had to scrounge some sugar from another table. Then later our meal came (soup with scone, tasty, and some sort of casserole, also good, served with crusty bread). The soup bowl was chipped, which didn’t create a very good impression, but overall we did enjoy the food, which we ate holding the table steady with our feet. The waiting staff were pleasant and helpful and our food was nice, but apart from the giggle it gave us as we recalled the state of the place, we weren’t left with an inner glow and I don’t think we will ever return.

Atraído por la maravillosa exhibición de bollos, entré para comprar uno como comida para llevar. En primer lugar, el bollo de queso prometió mucho pero entregó tan poco. Apenas había sabor a queso. No volveré

I live in Tamworth, but regularly visit Stratford-upon-Avon to take care of my Grandson during the school holidays. We always make a bee-line for The Garden Café, usually for a bacon baquette, which my Grandson absolutely loved. However, this half term we discovered they don't make those any more and were recommended to try the sausage roll with chorizo. My Grandson said it was food of the Gods, really delicious and very filling. I went for the soup which was also delicious. We love the Garden Café, the staff are so very friendly and helpful, always welcome us with open arms. All the food is homemade, plentiful and delicious.

Please read all the bad reviews as this coffee shop is horrendous. Loose leaf tea had no flavour, cappuccino didn’t taste like coffee. Cranberry scone was awful. Had to wait for the scone from the kitchen as it was warm, tasted of old fat, obviously warmed in a dirty oven. It came with the cheapest looking strawberry jam, was almost see through. Served in a minuscule paper pot along with another of cream. Toilet is directly across from the kitchen door. I am bewildered how they have a five star food hygiene rating. The overall cleanliness is very poor. Would not go back.

Its rare to see such poor customer service nowadays, particularly in an independent coffee shop that has so much competition but this place outdid themselves. The owner was possibly the rudest man I have ever encountered and doesn't care either. The way he spoke to his young staff was simply deplorable, if it were my son or daughter working there I would insist that they left. It was just plain bullying. The place is a complete neglected tip, they seem to have attempted to do some decorating and then got fed up. I wanted to leave immediately but my wife said it was rude although she then regretted it when our paltry sandwich arrived in a tacky red basket. I can't imagine that there are many if any people that return here. Having read the poor reviews I can assure you it is really that bad.

I went in here to try something different and boy did I get it. From the outside it looks like a cool coffee shop however when you get inside you realise it is anything but. The gentlemen that served me was clearly in a bad mood, he muttered that they were short staffed and there might be a wait. I wandered out the back to see if I could find a nice spot to sit to be met with some sort of makeshift conservatory covered with blue plastic...disgusting! There is another seating area that looks like it is actually a store cupboard. The carpets are just filthy. There were several people discussing the decor which passed the time as I waited 20 minutes for my coffee and scone which was dry when it turned up. I didn't want to approach the grumpy man on the counter as I had already overheard his less than charming customer service approach to another couple that had complained. With so many other bright and happy places to eat in Stratford I would definitely avoid this establishment. Having read through some of these reviews, it clearly wasn't a one off experience.

This appeared at first to be a very nice artisan cafe but the service was very bad not I might add from the young girls waitressing but strangely from the manager/owner who was totally disengaged from his customers and more interested in berating his staff so much so that a lady customer seated in the garden came in and reprimanded him for telling off the young girls. Having taken orders and customers money he then said food would be 20 mins then extended this to half an hour declaring he was short staffed! It would have been better if he had left one of the girls to take the orders and make the drinks and gone to the kitchen to assist withthe food. Then to everyone’s amazement at 3 minutes past one he closed the cafe leaving some customers seated outside waiting for their prepaid orders wondering what was going on. When we did get our food it was very good, presentation in plastic baskets was a little poor and there was no effort made to make up for the delay by perhaps offering to top up our teapots which by then had been with us for over half an hour. The place was a little cluttered and the passage to the toilet was obstructed by junk. This saga was disappointing for us because this was a special day out we didn’t expect to see such poor service for a senior member of staff. Overall service was good from the waiting staff but the manager simply created a bad atmosphere

Ordered two cheese scones and two coffees. The coffees were fine. But the scones had been warned in a microwave which meant they were soggy, without any texture. Savoury, probably yes because they definitely weren't sweet, but cheese? They need a new cheese supplier because these were tasteless. I assume the reason for the use of the microwave was that the scones had come straight from the freezer. This is no way to treat paying customers. A restaurant has to be very poor to elicit criticism from me, I would rather not give a review. But in a tourist venue like this caveat emptor!

Had to queue up to place order and get own drinks, the staff were all miserable only one toilet and the water for hand washing was so hot someone could easily get scolded. Cakes in the window looked very tempting- sadly my 'vegan flapjack' was a mushy, soggy blob created with dates, banana and seed - oats were unidentifiable. We were 'given' our money back (manager slammed it on the table). No spoons for either tea or coffee, sugar was evidently an optional extra too. Manager accused us of moving our table when it was wobbling! Another couple said they only go there because it's like faulty towers! The roof leaked in the conservatory just to add to the ambience! Arrived in sunny Stratford and wanted to sit in garden for a light lunch!!! We walked through and garden (just a few tables threw outside) but was full! I sat in the lean too shack, which is held together with cardboard, wood and plastic whilst hubby went to order! I looked around and could see the shabby chic look they were trying to achieve but sadly not!!!! The staff looked unhappy in their work and most were kids, who walked about not clearing or wiping tables! The man spilt some milk and just left it! When our food did arrive it was the smallest portion of quiche, tiny bit of salad and a handful of crisps and the smallest bacon baguette ever! Definitely not worth the money we paid!!!! Definitely wouldn’t return given seeing the other lovely cafes in Stratford, but sadly we missed out!!!! Having said that, what we did have was tasty so for that reason I’m rating it poor rather than terrible!

Visitamos unas cuantas veces anteriormente y almorzamos, tarta y bebidas.

This cafe looks nice and welcoming. The garden is very well kept and it’s a lovely space. Unfortunately the plain scones didn’t live up to our expectations - they where flavourless, almost savoury, and came with cheap cream and tasteless jam. Disappointing !

We had a cream tea which was lovely, the scone was very good. Downside was the toilets, eek the sink and the toilet and the floor were filthy. The room we were eating in the staff wiped the tables but then what they wiped fell to the floor, so many crumbs. The décor leaves a lot to be desired it needs some care.

Chaos caused quite simply by operating a very poor system and resulting in very poor customer service. Orders are placed at a counter to a server who also is expected to deliver and clear tables, all the while creating back logs at every stage. I experienced this myself and witnessed the madness of the place being experienced by several other customers around me. The problem seems to be the inability to cope with the number of customers it is attempting to cater for. There is a dire shortage of staff and the owner/manager has no idea about serving customers. This place survives I presume because of its location and a reliance on passing trade. I won't be a return customer!

We were seeking a morning coffee and something light and quick to eat as we waited 40 minutes between appointments. Stratford upon Avon has multitudinous cafés and restaurants all offering breakfast at this time and many are located in Sheep Street. We chose this café for its unpretentious look and feel. Sadly, we didn’t have the time for more than a bacon baguette from the imaginative and mouthwatering breakfast menu. My baguette was bursting with very tasty bacon and my cappuccino was excellent too. Further, the charming owner was only too willing to ensure that my bacon was crispy - exactly how I like it - served without a trace of grease and a hint of mustard. The baguette could well have been home baked. We look forward to returning to try their eggy bread with maple syrup - and much more...

Been coming to Stratford for many years and thought we would give this place a try. Coffee was ok, but the food we had was very disappointing. Decor very poor. Glad we did not complain, as reading other reviews the staff can be quite rude if you do.

This place could be so much better if the obnoxious man barking and belittling employees and customers behind the counter realised that customers pay his wages. We were trying to find somewhere to grab a quick lunch before going to the RSC. Initially we looked at the 1940s cafe (a few doors down from Garden Cafe) but opted for this instead as there was a table free.

It was very hot day. We ordered diet cokes which were warm on arrival. Smoked salmon bagels and salad...the salad was brown and limp and warm, the bagel was ok the cream cheese was warm and soft and oozing out of bagel and the smoked salmon was un refrigerated, and dry round edges. It appeared that the whole dish had been pre prepared and standing in the kitchen. The only things remotely edible were the half dozen crisps on the plate...the most expensive crisps I have ever eaten. There was no-one to complain to and the service was slow. Wont be going there again.

Visited Sunday afternoon hoping to get a bite to eat. 3 of our party wanted sausages on brown bread and I wanted ham sandwich without Mayo. Not one order was possible as they cannot go off menu. Ì understand time restraints but I am afraid putting sausage on brown bread is no different from sausage onto a baguette, as for the ham, surely not having to put mayo on reduces the steps in preparation and therefore the time. Needless to say, we didn't stay. I am sorry I can't comment on quality off the food. But can comment on customer service and it is pretty poor when the menu is so prescriptive and staff a tad dismissive of us. Maybe you need to think a little bit out of the box to ensure customer satisfaction

This was a little gem to find as it looks tiny on the outside but is a lot bigger once inside. We sat in the little outside area which was nice. The food was good too and they serve a wide range of drinks e.g. I had prosecco and my boyfriend had a milkshake which came with thick, luxury ice cream. They also did what looked like delicious puddings but we were just too full!

My wife and I are senior citizens, tourists from America. When we embarked on our UK vacation, my wife said she had two goals: (1) to eat a good British scone, and (2) to meet someone named Hermione. Alas, we didn't find a Hermione, but we did find an excellent scone, here at Garden Cafe. We had attended the Saturday market in Stratford-Upon-Avon, and we found this lovely small cafe just a half block from the market on a street lined with nice shops and restaurants. Inside the cafe there are multiple rooms for sitting, plus a backyard garden with tables and seating. Our scones and coffee were excellent. It's exactly what we wanted. Highly recommended.

This place offers casual lunch items such as sandwhiches and soup at a reasonable price. I had soup of the day which was good, the gluten free seeded bread that came with it was not edible but I did not mind. Their GF almond polenta cake was very good, My daughter had the chicken pesto sandwich which was very good. I thought the service was very good for a casual cafe. The staff was friendly.

Went to this cafe for a quick drink. It was OK but the place needs a bit of sprucing up and the lady serving us (poss owner/manager) wasn't that polite. We didn't know she was serving someone else (they had gone back to their table to check something) and she was quite dismissive of us. Shame really! Don't work in the hospitality industry if you don't want to be polite! We sat in the garden at the top and it was a bit untidy out there. The drinks however were nice so it's not all bad.

What a horrible experience. The manager was unbelievably rude. The place is run by someone who does not understand customer service. We ordered sandwiches and asked could one of them be toasted. Not possible. We asked for a BLT on brown bread. Not possible. They only offer it on a bagel. Yet they offer both toasted and brown bread sandwiches for other choices on the menu. When we asked for this, the manager said it was not possible and his excuse was to reduce the delay in ordering food. He made no effort to improve or recognise their clear flaws. There is no baby change and the toilet was dirty. Our son cried as I changed him on the toilet seat. The one and only highchair had no table attached. They lost it apparently. We confronted the manager about all of it and he was so rude and would not recognise their lack of customer service. I'm glad we are not the only ones as other reviewers have experienced similar. I look forward to the manager's reply......
