It's no surprise that this great family pub has such fantastic ratings.Always a warm welcome, great selection of well priced drinks, large family room and busy games room with pool, darts,cards, sports TV and fantastic jukebox. The staff are a credit to the place and are super friendly. It's a clean well presented pub and is respected by visitors and locals, theres a large carpark to the rear and plenty of seating to the front with a huge grassed area for superb summer events. There's also a bus stop within a hundred yards or so.. This is a pub that makes the best of what it has,and benefits from good management,great staff and a friendly local clientele.. It's very hard to fault...

Very friendly and welcoming staff and landlord. Gteat selection of draught and bottled beers, ciders and spirits. Large function room, perfect for any occasion. Two pool tables, very high standard of competition. Also show all Premier League matches. Lovely green in front of the pub, making for a fantastic beer garden. Superb juke box. The perfect local.

Absolutely amazing! Went in to organise a fun day and the staff were so helpful, on the day of the funday they helped and couldn’t do enough for us! Would recommend anyone holding an event here

Rented out the function room for my dads surprise 60th.. Couldnt write a better review. Party wasnt till the evening but access was available throughout the day for set up ect. Fantastic sized venue/rooms & the grass outside & sunshine was perfect for the children too enjoy. clean, friendly & accessable for all needs. Staff & landlord was an absoloute angels, worked so hard all night and could not do enough for our party. If your looking for a private function or even just a nice wind down, i would 100% book the northgate. 11/10 on every aspect

Perfect local pub. Family friendly, great atmosphere, warm welcome and so, so friendly. Great range of beers and spirits and an unrivalled juke box. Large room for functions with djaying facilities and in the summer there are plenty of tables outside with beautiful views over the green and beyond, all the way to Winter Hill in Horwich. Thank you for making us feel at home. Lots of laughs and a great day/night. Stayed far too long! Will definitely return again and again and again! :-)

I really cannot say enough nice things about the Northgate. To start it's right in the centre of sholver, As soon as you walk I you are welcomed by a smile from either Suzy, Kev , Gemma or Kayleigh. I normally like a named beer such Carling or Guinness. The Northgate have holts own beer with it being Cystal or Trailblazer which I actually belive is better than Carling and Guinness there very very nice and reasonably priced. I have been to several events from Bonfire nights to birthday parties there we even met Santa there. To Kev and all the staff please keep up all the good work.

Fantastic pub with a great and friendly atmosphere. Had many a laughs in this place and will continue to do so. All the staff are brilliant and the landlord kev is a great lad. Highly recommend

Amazing community centered, family (and dog!) friendly pub. The bar staff are fantastic and you are always greeted with a friendly smile. Great selection of drinks that are reasonably priced, and the best 2 pool tables in Oldham! I have had functions at the pub and received so many positive comments from family and friends that had not visited before.

Great community pub. Everyone welcome but be careful because when the pool table and jukebox get going it’s hard to leave!

Not been in the Northgate in years,but here today for a christening. A popular local pub,in the middle of the green,great venue for such occasions. Nice decor inside,we used the lounge area,small bar & dance area,i know it was used in a bbc comedy Scarborough,with jason Manford(I'd have had some pictures of the filming on the wall)?.. On this visit the,knowing that they had a party in,they could have done with one more bar staff,poor woman didn't know which way to turn,served eventually.. Not sure if they do food,didn't see anything advertised?.. Overall it was ok.

Not been in for a few weeks because of work commitments , didn't realise how much I missed this place, once again had a brilliant night didn't stop laughing while there,great atmosphere and the bar staff were very much a part of a fantastic night, can't wait for my next visit would defo recommend the Northgate to anyone....make sure you ask for a "LARGE CRYSTAL" as this is the secret promo code for some VIP treatment x

Had my benefit do here at weekend, can not recommend this place highly enough, friendly staff who went above and beyond for us. Amazing venue, with lots of outdoor space which was greatly appreciated as it was a sunny day.

Brilliant pub with the best landlord from the best family you could meet. Proper community pub with the warmest welcome for anyone and everyone. Couple of pints, watch the sport, game of pool or need help with a function this is the place.

We had a fundraiser at The Northgate to raise money for our poorly grand daughter. The staff were amazing. It was a very busy day and they coped remarkably. Kev the landlord and Suzy the manager kept things going well. Kian and the girl on the bar were friendly and helpful all day and all night. The brewery even donated raffle prizes to the fundraiser. It's a lovely family pub with lots of outdoor grassy areas for the kids. Plenty of outdoor seating. Lots of choice of drinks. We were so so grateful for all their help. They deserve a medal! X

Attended for a friend's 40th birthday party. Lovely atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great music in a cosy, relaxed pub.

Recently had a 40th for a family member here and honestly couldn't fault the place or the staff. This is the 6th party we have held here and each time the staff are more than helpful. The place is pristene, bathrooms super clean. Kev and his staff are warm, friendly and will go the extra mile to help you. Shout of to Suzie for being an absolute star behind the bar. The room is big and features a snug for your buffet etc. Great sized main room with plenty of seating area, lovely bay windows and dance floor. Outdoor seating and a huge area of grass for the kids to run about on! Great for a party, a quiet drink or a night out, the Northgate is a pub that welcomes all.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the Northgate on a few occasions, most recently as it was the venue for my 50th birthday party. The pub is welcoming & comfortable and the staff are warm, friendly and couldn't do enough to make the party a great success. The food was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I'd highly recommend it for either a visit for a drink or your next special event and I look forward to my next visit.

We had my daughter's first birthday party at the Northgate and I couldn't recommend this place enough. Ken and the bar staff were very helpful, accomodating and friendly. I have to give Emma a shout-out for helping us all day. Tons of space for kids to play around and lots of out side space.

First visit to The Northgate on Sunday, we hired the function room. Excellent value for the money. Bar staff are a credit to the pub they where very friendly & they went above & beyond to help.

Used this pub numerous times for family gatherings and never been disappointed. Staff go the extra mile, every time. Function room is a really good size and any sport is available to watch on a variety of screens. Always a 10/10

Called in for a few drinks with friends on Saturday afternoon. Had a few drinks, watched football on sky sports, had a couple of games of darts and pool. Everyone was extremely friendly. There was a lovely lady behind the bar who couldn't do enough for us. All topped off with a couple of pizzas to share. Great afternoon all round. Will definitely be back soon.

Me and my daughter are from the Manc end of Oldham....Failsworth/Hollinwood and decided to into Oldham to watch the Manc derby.....Did a bit of research and found this pub.........To be honest.....As we walked past the windows to enter I said to my daughter......It's gonna be full of locals and we'll probs get a few looks on entry...........I'm a Manc and that didn't phase me at all.......On entry....we got the looks obviously but from start to finish of the game everyone was welcoming and friendly........Would not hesitate to back in again.......Regular old school boozer.......Recommended 100%

Top place. I went to the Northgate a while ago and I couldn't fault it at all; I really can't wait to go back. There was a nice, warm, welcoming atmosphere from both the staff and locals alike and the food and beer were spot on. I stayed there for a few hours during the day with one of my girlfriends and I had such a lovely time that I went back that very same night for a bit of a bogle with my other girlfriend.The manager Duncan Goodhew (inexplicably known to the locals as 'Kev') is great to talk to and will happily spend hours regaling his adoring punters with interesting stories about his hobbies, which vary from everything between synchronised swimming, flower arranging, poetry and ballet; and he loves to entertain with funny anecdotes about his pre-op trans brother Barry and his pet unicorn who he loves very much.The DJ that night 'Daniel Mankind Smith' had everybody dancing with his eclectic selection of power ballads and nineties boyband anthems. Even some of the wheelchair ones were up and about, bogling away to his seemless megamixes and they absolutely loved it.In summary, I can't recommended this place highly enough. In this sad new world of characterless chain venues as more and more traditional pubs fall victim to capitalism or close down to begin new lives as curry houses, the Northgate defiantly stands tall with it's warm, welcoming and rustic atmosphere. It laughs in the face of Mr Wetherspoon, and long may it continue.Thank you for listening

Thought we'd try this place for its food, again, and we weren't disappointed. The fish finger butty was an eye-opener; delicious fish served in a delicious roll with a good helping of proper chips. Great service from the bar, just like the last time we visited. Highly recommend this place as the food isn't airy-fairy and you get decent portions for a great price.

Went with some friends recently for something to eat and a night out,couldn't fault the grub it was spot on and the atmosphere in the bar was very warm and friendly will defo be goin again in near future

Friendly bunch in this place; bar was busy but the people sat at the bar made room for my wife and I so we could order food and a couple of them gave us genuine, friendly greetings.

From the moment I walked in was welcomed really friendly atmosphere top venue and well run got everything you could want from food to beer to darts and most important pool well worth a visit and top people aswel a must visit !!!

Absolutely amazing pub. So many different reasons lovely pub to go for food excellent value for money atmosphere is great the staff are very welcoming and easy going. The locals that attend are very friendly. Community comes together for example bonfire night was an absolute fantastic night was very busy but even under pressure staff dealt well. Great function room. Also after 8:30 once the children go, then the night carries on with a Fab DJ and karaoke. Landlord can’t do enough.

I never used to use the Northgate when I first moved to the area years ago but since the new management have taken over a couple of years ago its completely turned around for the better, the staff are friendly and professional and the pub is clean and kept on top of, it’s a great family pub and with it being a Holts’ brewery pub they do have good beers that Kevin the landlord prides him self with looking after and providing a great pint. If you live locally and think of the Northgate as it used to be many years ago do not tar it with the same brush as it’s a 100% improvement to the past, Kevin and his staff should be proud of themselves to of saved another local from closing, it offers great sports coverage but if you don’t fancy the noise of a tap room then sit in the lounge that was recently given a face lift and is a pleasant surrounding to unwind in, we’ve never had a bad meal in here and they serve good food, there’s plenty of colourful characters and always good banter in the tap room, basically a good all round local that we enjoy socialising in and trust me I’m fussy when using a pub if it’s not right they don’t get my business!

I called into this pub, and what can I say its fantastic! If you want good fresh food and affordable prices. Staff are very friendly and the beer is awesome. Strongly recommend! The landlord Kevin is the best landlord in all of the pubs I've been in. Well done the Northgate Oldham.

We came in for a meal with family, food cooked perfectly, nice sized menu with big portions. Food and beer all really good. The landlord couldn’t do enough for us, we will definitely be returning soon!

This has been our local pub for many years but only recently started going in again after hearing the good reviews with excellent food and friendly landlord, we haven’t been disappointed so far , good atmosphere, good piping hot food, at a very reasonable price and made to feel very welcome .

Such a lovely friendly atmosphere when you walk in always greeted with a smile. Perfect for family’s but also has a nice lively atmosphere after family time too. Kareoke and dj on at weekend in the best room after the food has stopped being served. Which brings me to the food excellent choice very nice and great value for money. Staff are more than helpful and lovely. Would recommend to families and young people alike. Pool and darts are a big part of the tap room if that’s something you enjoy. The manager kevin will go above and beyond to meet your needs

The food is disgusting and even now I cannot believe I played for that vile food they had the cheek to serve me.

Decided we would give this a try after a recommendation, we went through to the dining area to be greeted or not greeted by a miserable looking young lady, I ordered a pint of Guiness and a pint of lager, the Guiness came over flowing the top of the glass (perhaps some basic bar training on how to pour a pint how Guiness expect it to be poured would be in order) paid for the drinks and asked do you order at the bar for food to which the reply was we aren’t doing food anymore,no reason why or a sorry, now as we walked in people were still sat eating and it was only 7.45pm, out side it says food served all day every day, we’ll obviously not on Monday. Well I won’t be trying or recommending it. Complaint also sent to Joseph Holt

Good food very good landlord & management perfect very friendly .

Had several meals here with the family and never been dissatisfied. Food arrived Quickly and was very tasty. What makes it more enjoyable is the price and what you get for your money is amazing. I have tried the burgers, Sunday dinner, fish and the all day breakfast. You will not leave here hungry.

Not to bad for a pint reasonably priced

It was happy hour when we arrived and it was extremely cheap - only £2.29 for a pint of Lager!!!. The missus had one of the specialist gin cocktails and loved it. Food was great, it arrived fairly quickly and there was a good atmosphere in the tap room where we ordered our food with a lot of friendly and extremely lively banter.

Booked a table for 4 for Christmas Eve. At £12.99 per person the value is phenomenal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming,the food was lovely and plentiful and the beer was good too. It was great to have a lovely meal with family on Christmas Eve and stay local. Another big thing for me is I didn't have to drive. Many thanks to all at the Northgate.

Great family friendly pub. The food here is always lovely. They have a new winter menu on at the moment which sounds great. I've only tried the chicken Kiev up to yet and it was gorgeous, but I will be trying more. The staff are great and the owners are welcoming and friendly

Well we're do i begin? Earliest memories are when pubs shut between 4-7 on Sundays and everyone paid for drinks by leaving money on the bar. Quality local friendly atmosphere and joseph holt beers always hit the spot

Didn't know they did food tbh or I would've tried it earlier. Good value meals and not having to get in the car was a bonus. I live in the area so to find that I can go for a meal without the car is great. The food was nice as was the well looked after pint of smooth,if your from the area or just visiting give it a whirl.

Family friendly pub, great food, great selection of pub food, offers on regularly 2 for 1 on Mondays! and reasonably priced. Gorgeous views over Oldham child’s park few minutes walk away. Highly recommend at least one visit. 😃
