A wonderful hotel. Cosy bed, great en-suite bathroom and fantastic staff. We had evening meals, as well as breakfast, and each meals were absolutely delicious! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stayed here a few times. The breakfast is amazing , my room is spotless, comfy beds quiet. and lovely staff . The hotel is 2 minute walk from the promenade and 5 minutes from the train station. More for the mature residents than younger families .

A wonderful meal for our Golden Anniversary. Efficient and friendly staff who created just the right atmosphere for all of our large family, which adults and children really enjoyed.

While from the outside the Northern Hotel has a somewhat dated appearance, the establishment is very comfortable, welcoming and produces very good meals. If you are considering a venue for a work's meal then look no further. The food is very good, there is an excellent choice and it is at a sensible price, unlike some of the establishments in the area that are far too expensive.

Clean rooms, helpful staff. We booked at short notIce but were pleasantly surprised. Great location near to rail station, beach and main shops. Decor is a little old fashioned but bedding was lovely and crisp, and the breakfast was pleasant. We would stay there again on a repeat visit.

I recently held the 90th Birthday celebration luncheon for my mother in the Richmond room at the Northern Hotel . The organisation of the event was made very easy by the attentiveness of the owners and staff. I was able to develop a number of menu choices for each course and arrange for the guests to choose their selection prior to the event. The chefs are superb and response from all the guests was very complimentary. Portion sizes good, and the deserts fantastic.. Service was attentive and there was no feeling of time pressure. The restaurant catered well for wheelchair users

Step back in time for a menu and service that reflects the past. That said, attentive and competent waiter staff and dishes that have that traditional Englishness, all provided at a very competitive price, may be just what you are seeking in this sea-side town that oozes old world charm. The hotel restaurant is a short step from the promenade. The restaurant has two seating areas, a mostly internal room and the naturally lit garden room.

To be honest I had no real idea of what The Bell would be like when I booked it. The location was convenient for a function we were attending elsewhere. What a revelation, this place is amazing. You have to consider that the "project " is ongoing, but this doesn't impact on anything. The standards are great. Service, welcome and the whole experience was amazing. While entering the bedroom, the standard of which it had been decorated and furnished to was just way above what you could have expected. Only down side was that we were only staying the one night.

I've read a few not quite so favourable reviews recently - you can only report as you find, I understand that- so I thought I'd add this one from this evening. Four of us enjoyed a relaxing meal, at reasonable cost (ok, the desserts might be a smidge expensive, but they were nice); main courses of steak and kidney pud (which my friend thought was the best she had probably ever eaten out), giant haddock and chips, which really was pretty sizeable and lovely, Moroccan stew -very tasty with good sides, and belly pork (with which the mustard mash was a highlight) were well cooked and enjoyed by all. A new barrel of Harveys Best had just been tapped, and wine by the glass was good value and quality. Service was exemplary (yes, the pub wasn't that busy, but that doesn't always mean good service). We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - both members of front-of-house staff who looked after us (one apparently being very new) were delightful, and added to our enjoyment.

Heard lots of good reviews, but was disappointed. The soup had to be sent back as it was tepid at best. The sandwiches were laughable for the cost, would have got a better deal out of a supermarket at a cheaper cost. Unable to reserve a table for six of us and had to chance availability. Apparently you can reserve if you are having a cream tea. Would return to walk the grounds and have a coffee, which was decent, but would not waste my money on the food.
