The North Star in Gosport

Had a half BBQ chicken and large chips from here for takeaway and only 7 quid! It was really decent I must say. The chicken was marinaded and seasoned really well, and was great quality, really tasty. And the chips, well, they really were top notch. Fluffy, crispy, not greasy and clean oil taste. Really nice! Would highly recommend, and I'm even gonna grab one tonight. Full marks. (The pic only shows a handfull of the chips, portion was big)

Fish fish fish.. great conversion of the trashed old pub. Food is excellent on both sides of the premises. Saves a trip round to Portchester. Thank heavens there's a decent fish restaurant in gosport now.

I was surprised to see a Spanish restaurant in this area of Gosport (It's not me being a snob, I live only 15 minutes walk away, it's that it's generally just a residential area) so thought I'll have to give it a go, and oh boy am I glad I did. Myself and my 2 friends loved all our dishes (especially the octopus starter) , wine and beer. Very friendly staff and we spent over 3 hours in there. It costs us around £45 each for 2 top quality courses along with 2 side dishes, a 1.5 litre bottle of red wine and a couple of beers. I'll be moving from the area soon but hopefully I'll get there again before I leave

We had two taco's and two mains. Both taco's were served on limp lettuce and were pretty tasteless. Sea bass was completely covered with a strong sauce removing all the delicate taste of sea bass. The pork in pork medallions was dry and tough with no flavour. The vegetables were very nice !

I drive down to gosport every 4 weeks or so but have always drove past, but as I had driven down in an emergency I was heading home late so decided to try, and my goodness what a surprise fantastic service lovely Portuguese staff and a great manager, didn't have tapas, but tried the pulpo y calamari, for main I had the lamb Rump my wife the ribeye, both cooked to perfection, I would recommend if your passing by STOP!!!

Having visited this fish and chip restaurant before another visit was always going to be good, we were not disappointed. The restaurant is always clean and fresh and the staff, are always attentive while not being over the top.

Visited for lunch, we both had haddock which was OK but the cups were dry and almost chewy! They had obviously been hanging around a long time!! Told waitress who could not have been less interested. Won’t bother again, pity used to be really good.

Visited for the first time last night. Menu is pretty small and "compact" The food was edible but we found it rather bland, we eat Tapas eleswhere in Hampshire all of the time so had a comparison, this is not the best we have ever had. The main was a large portion - far too much chicken on the plate so some was left. it was fairly well cooked but again lacking in flavour for us. We found the entire meal to be bland but thats how some people like their food, plain.

We visited with friends and as always the food was lovely. Like the variety on the menu. The staff are friendly and the service is good. Would have liked the hot food to have been a bit hotter - but this is personal taste. Well done.

Visited for a spontaneous meal on a Friday night, decided to try the fish and chips side of the restaurant, which was surprisingly empty, the tapas side a little busier, service was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious! Very short wait for fresh tasting fish and chips, not greasy at all, and we were even offered free top ups on our chips! Which we declined as the portions were so generous and we were filling up fast already! Would definitely recommend a visit! Keen to try the tapas side of the restaurant soon as it smelled amazing!!

Staff warm and friendly. Atmosphere comfortable and appealing.Food brilliant.service slow but acceptably so, plenty of time to have a few drinks and nibbles. Paella outstanding. With our eaters of simple food fish and chips ideal. Have recommended and will use again. Did I mention the desserts we had one of each OMG great .

From the outside the North Star looks like a typical large town pub. Inside it’s another world. Crisp scarlet table cloths and white linen napkins make for a smart restaurant setting. The service is friendly and efficient while the tapas are fantastic. We ordered from the set lunch menu which meant that the four of us could have a total of twelve tapas. We ordered one each of the ten tapas on the menu with double helpings of the whitebait and meatballs.

A restaurant with linen table cloths and napkins, outstandingly good service and, best of all, wonderfully tasty food with an excellent range of choices? In Gosport? Yes! And the North Star ticks al, of the boxes with aplomb.

Great fish'n'chips eat in or takeaway. Been here a few times and never disappointed.

This is now my 6th visit, a 2nd visit with our little group, last time we had the Tapas option ( We meet every couple of months) once again a really great evening with the added bonus of being able to dine in the Tapas side even though we all had the excellent choice of Fish and Chips. Very many thanks to David and all your staff making our evening special. Our food was very tasty and thoroughly recommended by all our group, This venue is a must for anyone who enjoys good food and excellent value. If you haven't tried here yet then you definitely should.

The food in the Tapas restaurant is very good, not the cheapest however the quality makes it good value, I have been to this restaurant many times before and will be returning in the future.

Thought we’d give this place a go as it’s local. It’s a fish and chips, tapas, Italian restaurant. We decided on fish and chips to take away. I ordered a large cod and chips, a pea fritter and pickled onions. The cod and chips were nothing special, the pea fritter was weird, instead of a nice big ball of peas in batter it was more like a fish cake to look at, with not very much pea in it. We both had a pickled onion but after hubby tried his and said it wasn’t very nice and tasted peculiar I didn’t even bother trying mine. The fish and chips were a bit greasy and left a slimy after taste. We won’t be going there again.

No atmosphere in restaurant what so ever - we were only diners whilst we were there. Got a sense it was probably like that regularly as the food taste near on disgusting and just about edible. Ordered their chicken and seafood paella as the main between two of us. Luke warm which made me think they couldn’t even reheat it properly, chicken tough, had chewing gum that I’ve chewed less than the squid rings and had to pull every piece of fish apart to avoid choking on fish bones. Ordered for two people, could only manage to eat one portion between and that was purely down to being quite hungry. Not enjoyable.

Having a meal here right now. Sensational. Food, service and atmosphere first rate. Recommended to anyone wanting a slice of Spain in the UK. Can especially recommend the prawn cocktail with advocado, the meatballs and the patates bravas

Staff are always very friendly and helpful. Great menu and also list gluten free dishes. Food is always presented well and always finish our meal. A choice of Fish and chips and Tapas restaurants. Take away is also well worth the money.

We had gone past this place many times and we kept meaning to try it. Well we did. The food was the best we’ve had for a long time. The quality was great the taste amazing. The service was very good. We will certainly go back. It was about £60 for 3 courses for 3 including coffee. Great value. WE WILL BE BACK !!!

These guys have got it right. Whether its a takeaway or restaurant service the team excel on giving a great experience Food is always good, and nothing is to much trouble for the staff, who are very attentive.

We were visiting family in Gosport (we are from Birmingham) on 1st August, had heard that this was a good restaurant - it certainly was. My daughter asked if they served cocktails, they didn't as a rule but made one specially for her and were more than happy to do so. We opted for tapas which were superb and extremely satisfying. The staff and management were brilliant and friendly too. Will eat here again when we are in the area. Would recommend to everyone who likes tapas/ seafood.

Birthday lunch, went for the Lunch Menu - You could have a choice 2 Tapas & a main or 3 Tapas, other was 2 Tapas & a Main or 3 Tapas, adding a Dessert. Husband went for 3 Tapas - Prawn Cocktail, Ham & Mushroom in a white wine sauce & Salted Cod Croquettes. I as it was Birthday went for - Meatballs with tomato sauce, Bravas Potatoes, which had a tomato sauce, but would say slightly different than the Meatballs & Whitebait, the dessert was a toffee Bomb, which was in in fact a large. long slice of heaven, but so light.

Found this place by chance when in the Godport area. Lovely cod and scampi well cooked. Also a tapas restaurant that might be worth a try.

Had a lovely meal in the Spanish Tapas restaurant. Took my fiancé there for his birthday. He is Spanish so thought we should try this place out as it is local to us and like to support small businesses. Had a starter each, a main and shared a dessert. Delicious seafood linguine with lots of seafood. Not cheap food but you are paying for fine dining. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.

We have eaten several times in the fish and chips part of the restayrant and rate it very highly. Their takeaway is also vet good.

Lovely atmosphere, food cooked fresh to order. We were a little unsure how Fish and Chips fitted with Spanish Tapas but we were impressed with the quality of our great British favourite of fish and chips.

Hospitality 5 out of 5... food, not for me. Very very pricey and tasteless. Staff however are so friendly and make you feel very welcome. We also waited a very very long time for our food.

This place never disappoints. The place is so clean the staff welcoming and the food freshly cooked and delicious. Very good generous helpings of chips. Proper chips not fries.

Title says it all really. Could not fault the food, drink or service. Nothing was too much trouble which made the whole experience absolutely fantastic. If you are in the area you must give it a try.

Fantastic gluten free. Waiters very friendly and enjoyed talking to us about gluten free and will adapt most menu items to gluten free. And the cake for desert was exquisite. My partner is gluten free not me but it is actually.good to find a good gluten free restaurant wich is rare. Thanks guys keep up.the good work

Popped into here after family day out. My son has coeliac disease so we need to be careful where we choose to eat. The staff in the fish restaurant gave us complete reassurance and provided us with fantastic gluten free fish and chips, sausage and chips and as a brilliant bonus gluten free calamari. Great value and great service too. Would highly recommend for others needing safe gluten free food in this area.

This place was booked by a family member after reading the many glowing reviews but I'm confused why.

The place is so fresh and cleanly presented you feel comfortable and at home from the moment you walk in.

We visited here for an evening meal. A warm, clean, friendly welcome as we arrived. Good selection of courses. We personally would have preferred empty plates collected once we'd all finished eating. Would return.

My wife and I had an absolutely fabulous evening for our shared 70th Birthday meal with family and friends, it couldn't have been a better evening from arrival to departure, the staff were all very obliging and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, menu choices were fantastic and they produced a wonderful tasty meal enjoyed by all, finished off with surprise birthday cake freshly made on the premises and rendition of Happy Birthday. sang with great gusto by all.

We booked this restaurant to celebrate a family birthday due to reviews from Tripadvisor, we were not disappointed. The food and service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.

Having selected this restaurant based on previous reviews we were surprised on arrival by the aspect. Retaining the name and general appearance from its previous life as a pub and with signage emphasising only that you can obtain Spanish tapas and gluten free food the owners probably don't attract much passing trade. First impressions were thankfully put right on entering the restaurant, which is set out with linen tablecloths and serviettes in a truly welcoming ambience. Our waitress Cristina was friendly and helpful, while Paulina, one of the owners took time out to chat. Octopus has sadly been withdrawn from the menu as too much was getting thrown away, as all food served here is fresh and prepared on site. Instead we had a variety of options, including the fixed price menu (deemed excellent). I had the calamari starter and a main course that included a piece of the four fish available and a king prawn. All the dishes were perfectly cooked and full of flavour.

I can happily say we have never been disappointed the food is always lovely. The staff are always very friendly and helpfull

The meal was first class, starters of Scampi Thermidor and Scallops were perfectly cooked and for Mains the Paella was to die for, the serving for two was enormous we had to bring half home for another lunch. The Staff were so friendly and attentive we had a excellent evening and returning soon.

Disappointed by meat ball starter I’ve had better service ok vegan options for my daughter sparse will not be going back there again

We went on a lunchtime midweek in March.Our first visit.The ambience was excellent and we were served quickly and drinks soon appeared.There obviously was a bit of a wait as fish was being cooked freshly.When the meal arrived the fish was excellent as were chips and mushy peas,The only slight fault I could find was could have done with some more chips.Otherwise a first rate dining experience.We will return soon to try the Tapas side of the restaurant.

We had take away fish and chips and would highly recommend them, to anyone but especially those requiring gluten free options. Staff were friendly and helpful and even ensured that the non-gluten free box was stacked below the GF ones to avoid cross contamination. With that attention to details, I would highly recommend this take away and restaurant to everyone.

Dinner with friends was delicious. Plenty of time to chat over many tasty Tapas dishes. Helpful staff couldn’t of done more for us. We’ll be back!

The best Cod & Chips in Gosport, without doubt. The Fish is skinned and flaky, (no bones) served with Lemon and the chips are firm and not greasy. Great service, polite staff and top quality food. Who could want anything more?

Whilst I gave this venue a reasonable review the first time I went (due to them being new and I felt were experiencing 'teething ' problems), I have to say that for the prices charged this place should be more on the ball.

Evening meal for two. Friendly, attentive staff who were very familiar with dishes on offer.

I had been wanting to try this Tapas restuarant for some time, so we decided on lunch for my husband's birthday. Being mid week it was very quiet. The welcome was very friendly. An attractive clean interior. The food is beautifully cooked and served. We opted for a tapas to start. I chose Halibut with shell fish and tomatoes as a main course, my husband decided on Pork medallions with Manchego cheese sauce. There was a plate of mixed vegetables and lightly roasted potatoes to share. For dessert we had chocolate fudge cake and lemon cheese cake. A bottle of Rioca and two coffees to finish. A very pleasant lunch. We will definitely return.

I love Spanish food so couldn't wait to try the North Star and i wasn't disappointed service was good also was the food (had the sea food /chicken paella) which was reasonably priced which was more than i say about the Tapas dishes i'm sure they tasted good but at a average price of £7 this is expensive as would need 2-3 dishes per person but overall a good night by all and will go back when feeling richer .

Read the reviews and decided to give it a go. The food and service were superb! Really friendly and welcoming, perfect for families. Can’t recommend it enough.

With out kitchen current out of order we were seeking a nice restaurant for dinner.

Why other half decided to surprise me with a meal here one night in the week, we had previously been for the 3 course lunch for £17 and was delicious. This time I opted for the salmon with champagne sauce, but was asked if I would like to try it with green peppercorn sauce and was amazing, my other half opted for the rib eye steak which was huge, staff are very friendly and helpful. Safe to say we will be returning very soon.

Once again a Wetherspoons Pub reigned supreme, we ate here on two occasions and the food was excellant, well presented, hot and tasty.

Another perfect visit to introduce more friends to this place who are missing out! Nothing is ever too much trouble and each and every member of staff are just so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food wonderful as always, drinks replenished without having to be asked. Just the best place to eat for miles.

Recommended by friends, pre booked a table for 4 for a Friday evening. Warmly greeted on arrival and service throughout our visit was excellent from the whole Team which made for a very enjoyable evening.

Had already eaten in the fish restaurant so we tried the tapas well what can I say about this side the service and food was of excellent quality very attentive staff who are proud of the service they give tapas food was delicious and the paella was excellent it could easily feed four as there was plenty if you like lemon cheesecake then go for it big enough portion and was heaven to eat in all of you want a nice night out go there

Just been with my friend for a lovely lunch. It’s my third visit and has been faultless every time.

Its rare we find a restaurant we’ll keep going back to but this is such a well rounded restaurant we’ve been endless times! Its best to go for an evening meal as the lunch menu can be a bit restricted. We’ve been as a couple and with our 18month old daughter and regardless the staff have been a delight, entertaining our daughter helping with funny requests only a toddler could require. Or amending our dishes because we really wanted to try something but didn’t want the full meal. They’re so accomadating and attentive. Then the food is great every time! The lunch time tapas is what you’d expect at a tapas bar but the wider menu boasts a range of great tasting dishes you might not have tried before. Well worth a try!

Wonderful welcome as always in a great atmosphere. The menu amazing, the food superb & wine one of the best! It was expensive but well worth it as it was Christmas Day!! Would definitely commend it to all. (There was no Christmas pudding for dessert which surprised me)

I have eaten in this restaurant a few times, mostly on the tapas side but once on the fish side. Last week they coped with thirty of us, there was a great variety of tapas, all well cooked and served really hot. We were well looked after and the meal was reasonably priced.

Having been to this restaurant before many times, we were treated to a voucher for Xmas, our food was lovely but the whole experience was ruined by the service, we had to go back to the bar to order another drink and having finished our mains we sat there for a further 15 minutes without anyone asking if we wanted dessert or more drink all staff seemed to be prioritising another table who asked for their leftover food to be bagged up, we therefore asked for the bill and left feeling quite deflated and not having the usual good service very much a lack of management today

we ordered starters and paella for 2 people but was enough for 4 and we did not managed to finish it the food is stunning the the wine was a Torres exceptional the staff were really helpful we were so full that we did not make desert which was a shame as they have a cabinet of obviously made on site puddings I cannot recommend this place more highly please go and support it

We made an early booking sat evening. On arrival greeted with the words good job you booked because we are full tonight! So we were taken to our table. Service started ok, there were only 2 other tables eating at this point. Starters were ok but nothing to write home about. Calamari no taste only "oil" very bland. Bacon and mushroom was enjoyable. Prawns in wine and creamy sauce...sauce was watery and thin and not a lot of taste. Mains, pasta dish was bulky but sadly lacking much taste, pork ok but no wow factor and the lamb dish was cooked well but again no exceptional sauces among the 3 mains?? Veg plain very basic but cooked ok.

Plenty of table space per person. Age group 40 -55. Good Drinks and house white wine. Good service on Sunday afternoon partially full. Food was larger portions than expected and glad as initial look on Web the prices seeed high. Had the three course set menu meal at £17.30 each. Some meals spices so read menu carefully. All nine people enjoyed the meal and the desserts. Car parking easy. Will return for a group meal in the future.

Friend booked. Service was friendly. Restaurant was busy for a Wednesday evening in January. Decor and ambience were nice. Tapas dishes were expensive at £7-8 per dish. Drinks also expensive. Mid week dinner for 3 was £80.

I went there for a meal in December, excellent food, friendly service, attractive venue with attention to details for a Christmas meal. Good parking or a short walk to the bus service.

The North Star has had many guises, but now it is a Fish & Chip and Tapas Restaurant and take away. The Fish restaurant is separated from the Tapas Restaurant by the take away section. We have been to the Fish side on numerous occasions and have had first class service and meals. The Fish is Cooked to order so it is always fresh. Haven’t used the Tapas side so can’t comment on that, but it always looks busy when we visit. It is spotlessly clean. The staff are always attentive and courteous. Look forward to going back.

Visited here for 1st time today and definitely won’t be the last visit! Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service was first class. We had starters and mains (2courses) from the lunch menu at £14.50 each and everything was freshly cooked and very tasty. Restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated in all areas, and toilets were very clean. Will be going back one evening and will try the fish bar soon also. Well done to the all the staff who are making this restaurant a success.

Excellent service, Had a few special requests due to dietary issues and they did everything possible to help and assist. The food was freshly cooked with fresh ingredients and was delicious.It was our first time, based on a recommendation and it won't be our last
