Best food and friendliest staff very helpful would totally recommend to anyone

The food beautifully cooked as always and the service excellent' The Xmas meal always excellent.

Naff. Yorkshire puddings served upside down because they were burnt. When I asked for a replacement I got given another plate of 2 yorkshires upside down…and also told “that’s how they come!” Lamb was ok, gammon was salty. Gravy was gelatinous. Veg (tastes from frozen) was just boiled and squeaky and bland. Very very average. If you like school dinners then you’ll like it here. Very dated. Very disappointing. Only giving an additional star as it was “edible” but not enjoyable at all. Also £34.95 for a bottle of Prosecco is preposterous

Great food and friendly helpful service

I was recommended TCT by many local people as having the best Sunday roast in town. I can confirm that they do indeed have a fantastic menu on Sundays, the staff are very friendly, and it was a great experience. It was my Mum's birthday, and they put up a banner and some balloons for her. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough.

This was our first time it's so convenient, right next to the bus station and the Gosport ferry,the seating was comfortable and music not too loud,a good selection of specials my brother had pie of the day,steak and Stilton with chips,I had the cottage pie with carrots and green beans they were really lovely.

Very nice place for a family meal, good, tasty food.

Visited for Sunday Lunch. Welcomed by Staff who accommodated us with a table even though all tables were reserved, now know booking is probably recommended. Ordered 2 Sunday lunches, one Beef & one 5 meat!(Dont attempt unless really hungry), yes Beef,Pork,Lamb,Turkey & Gammon, all of which were fantastic. Meat accompanied by Yorkshire Pudding, Roasties & choice of veggies. All in all, a great meal was had in pleasant surroundings with friendly staff. Price for meals and 2 drinks in total £34.40 in my humble opinion, we'll worth it. Will defo partake again.

Been here before it's known for it's food and generous portions the young lady who served me was just what you need in a pub/restaurant lovely personality and nice to be around all in all well worth a visit

Bizarre really didn't feel welcome at all. It was like we were in the way....!! Shall not be rushing back anytime soon.

An honest pub with good beer and a huge menu covering everything from roasts to salads, fish to steaks. Six of us were eating and all had good, varied meals. I wouldn't say it was haute cuisine but the food was well done with good portions and at a fantastic price. It's not cosy but there was plenty of chat and a buzzy atmosphere. Definitely a good choice when in Gosport.

Ordered roasts loads of times and eaten in a few times service always really good fast efficient even if weve walked in and its been busy. Delivery is always so quick and such generous portions for the money delicious too.

Popped in for a cheeky Monday tea.. Possibly the best veggie lasagne and chips with salad that I have ever had. Portion size was perfect, though managed to find room for an apple and caramel crumble. Delicious. Definitely recommended!!

Old pub with "Sticky" surfaces. Needs modernisation badly I'm afraid. Staff making the most of the circumstances.

Lovely old tavern really comfy and homely with food to match. The portions are huge and food delicious, feels like a home cooked meal. Staff are really nice definitely recommend.

Had a Christmas meal with a large group of friends, absolutely lovely food and good service. Fantastic value for money

To start with I’d like to say the staff were really nice and the atmosphere jolly. We decided to check out the food based on the reviews.The roast dinner my father-in-law had which was beef was a very generous portion the beef was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were a joke basically raw. The Brussels were like gobstoppers literally rock hard the green beans the same not just undercooked literally warm and raw. The so called roast potatoes were anaemic and tasted really odd. The vegetarian burger embarrassingly bad and the beef burger with cheese bacon and fried onion rings very bland and a mess. The burger was tasteless and a very odd colour like it had been cooked dry and sat in water, the bacon cold and the cheese was so cold it was stuck to the inside of the bun. The side salad literally the yellow internal of an iceberg lettuce with a couple of chunks of tomato. It goes to show that never go by the great reviews it depends on what quality of food your use to eating. The food reminded me of school dinners. Then the chips come on seriously you didn’t expect me to eat those surely. We eat our regular and that was definitely one of the worst roast dinners and burgers we’ve ever had apart from the beef and the Yorkshire pudding it was not edible. My father-in-law left all the veg and the so called roast potatoes and none of the salad on either burger was touched it was embarrassingly bad, Shame on you chef! Disappointing experience not to be repeated.

Heard lots of good things about their roast dinners and 1st time going there today. Service was OK, my daughter turned over her Yorkshire puddings and were Completely burnt on the bottom and soggy on top, spoke to the waitress and a half hearted apology later and again, more burnt Yorkshire puddings again and roast potatoes weren't cooked properly. Very disappointed 😞

Friendly, hardworking staff. Food is plentiful and very reasonable. Go hungry, as the servings are plentiful.

Really close to the ferry terminal in Gosport. A quiet Sunday evening roast. Huge portions with plenty of al dente veg. Get the child/OAP portions if you don't want to roll out of there. I'd definitely go back.

Parking is on the street. Went there on a Friday night. All tables were reserved, but we were lucky, and a group did not turn up. Once we ordered the food turned up in good time.

I couldn't tell you price, I was a guest with my family, but the food was great and there was plenty of it.

Love the Castle Tavern. Never been disappointed. Cottage pie and the roast are a firm favourite. Large portions and great value for money.

Wow, was so impressed with the food. I had the Beef and Stilton pie it was amazing. My friends had the liver,bacon and mash and they gave it the thumbs up. My other friend had the sirloin steak and also thoroughly enjoyed. We will be back soon!

Did not eat here, but we enjoyed our trip over on the Gosport ferry, visited the pub on a Thurs Eve , every table was reserved, so a good sign re food ...A good choice of cask ale, would have liked a local ale during our visit not on ...Young lady, possible the landlady was very helpful , and gave us some good info on local area , all friendly staff ..would recommend a visit . Apparently popular with local Sailors from the nearby marina ..Ty

The staff and service here are lovely. Sailed all day and arrived here (food from 6pm) and was seated (booking may be necessary but we've eaten there and got in every time). The food is excellent, big servings and timely in arrival. Highly recommend the place. There is a discount menu for 2 for £20 with slightly smaller portions.

A default marina bar great pub food

Haven’t been here since pre-covid. Great to see the place has been done up BUT way venue run a little odd and food not as good as once was. Still a ok place for a crew meal when you get out of Haslar and want somewhere to eat though.

Nice little pub to visit. We jumped on the Gosport ferrie to look at HMS Elizabeth and William in the port and saw this boozer and gave it a go. We never ordered any food so can't really review it properly but I had a look at the menu and it did look really nice

Staff were pretty rude, and EVERY table was reserved for '6 oclock rush' ... at 2pm.

Had a lovely roast dinner 3 people and one person had amazing gammon salad and 2 people had a 5 star burger

Ordered 2 roast lamb to be delivered. They arrived ontime and hot. The lamb was perfect, intact it all was. I used to order from The Inn By The Sea but have not heard enjoyed the last 2 so tried the castle. It was definitely worth the extra couple of quid and they don't used a delivery company. Would definitely recommend them as well worth every penny. Well done!!!

Very generous and tasty pub grub. We had stilton and beef pie with roast potatoes and scampi and chips - both great portions. Few wines by the glass plus beers to select from and specials food menu. It was quite busy so service was a little slow but super friendly. 👌

Liver and onions superb. £5.10 a pint. Great service and attentive. I've used the Castle for years never disappointed.

My boy said he’s mate said I’ve just had the best roast dinner he went and done a job for a man he said I’ve just had the best roast dinner I had to book it really was the most lovely roast I’ve had lovely pub lovely staff was made to feel so welcome booked for next week week to I told my other boy we had a table for next week he said we can’t wait till next week so he went down got a table for 4 They all had a lovely starter and Roast was so excited about the puddings but they was stuffed can’t wait for next week end thank you so much

Great pub for freshly made food from local ingredients. Staff work hard to serve you but it does get busy with sailors from the local marinas.

A solid pub. It's not a gastro pub so don't expect fancy food but you do get a decent portion at a decent price and it's not all just brought in and microwaved. It's generally pretty busy so the beer is good but getting a table for food can be tricky.

I dropped in with some mates for a quick beer. It was fine.

Tables all had reserved signs on them despite being empty. We were told that was normal however is unusual for a bar!

Amazing sunday lunch, the best i have ever had since living here 12yrs. The veg are fresh, meat is in abundance, potatoes lovely and gravy meaty. Staff are lovely and welcoming. Overall a great experience, compliments to the chef.

Good pint. Dark inside which is a shame on a sunny day. But a good down to earth traditional local.

We had our first Trident Rally of the season and got several recommendations for the Castle Tavern, they were well founded the food was great service was excellent and staff were lovely. One of our members said it was the best pub meal they had ever had and he's 86 so has had 1 or 2 in his time. Big thank you to you all for a great evening 😁👍

Verity and staff are always a pleasure to talk to, and the food is always wonderful.

Not been in for a few years but met friends for supper and in the best possible way, it's still very much the same. The sailors pub, buzzy atmosphere and plenty of laughter. Basic food menu, wholesome and big portions. Only gripe was no parmaesan cheese when you have spaghetti bolognase on the menu.

Fantastic Sunday roasts -Oldie size which is ample & reasonably priced Middle size Caveman size with 3 meats. always delicious with plenty of vegetables

Denied service due to my disability and reliance on my PTSD Assistance Dog. Was part of a Veterans Support Group booking for an Xmas meal. Told they only accept Guide Dogs. I offered to show them the Equalities Act 2010 guidance regarding Assistance Dog access rights (always have it saved on my phone) but was told they only follow their guidelines. Distressed the other wounded veterans that were going to dine that night but management were not interested in discussing the issue. Not veteran friendly and do not support or adapt to the needs of disabled persons. Very disappointing in a town with such strong military connections.

One of the nicest pubs in Gosport. I went there for my Christmas do and the food was good. It's also close to the Portsmouth ferry if you want to pop over to the Gunwarf marina development etc.
